I just wanted to give a quick shout out to Soupmagnet and SkOrPn. Both of which helped this idiot fix his KF, If you are having any problems at all head over to SkOrPn's page and just purchase his factory cable. It's cheap and extremely well made. I was banging my head off the wall for a few weeks trying to figure out why I couldn't get my KF out of fastboot. After working with Soupmagnet, he finally came to the conclusion that I definitely needed the factory cable and directed me to SkOrPn. I ordered the cable on I believe a Monday and it was delivered by Thursday.
Much props go to these guys!!

Everyone thinking of ordering a serial cable for the sole purpose of unlocking their device should hold off. The cable will take longer to arrive than our cable-less solution.
Even those that have already unlocked should prepare for general improvement in quality of life.
hi
sorry for my ignorance how do we connect :?:

Now they tell me!
I just ordered my cable yesterday!

does this method work with the US T-mobile XDA? I have the current ROM backed up.

oh... me all excited... any hints what extras we're gonna get?
Hopefully this is the charm 1st one soft-bricked the first day on the OTA, fixes weren't out then. Second one worked great until my son's Qi charger arrived, His N7 worked great with it, mine did not see it at all, I did not want to open the case, it seems much harder to open than the 2012 version so I swapped it at Best Buy again, and the new one seems to work completely, Never had so much trouble with a device before!
Me either. Although the first one could have been easily solved yourself. If you're soft bricked, you could have probably just unlocked then relocked. It does a full wipe and probably gotten you back in business.
Sucks about the Qi charger. I know some people have had issues with it. I would also check NFC to make sure it works. I found the sweet spot is on the back on the "N".
You shouldn't have to bother with anything with a new device though. Wish you the best!
The Qi thing worries me because I won't be able to check it until I get one in a few months.
Are there any stores or restaurants in the US that have qi chargers out for display or available for consumers that I can test my tablet on?

I know that now, but "bricking" 30 minutes after buying it on the first day when the problem was not widely known lead me to just want to swap it!
Hi,
The power button is broken on my Acer A501.
For 1 year I kept it going without rebooting. Plugin it to the wall would turn it on from deep sleep.
Now just messed up unplugging a usb thumb drive and the tablet frozen and discharged completely.
I can't find a way to force it to boot anymore.
Is the a way force it to boot without using the power button?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
Francois

Hey Francois, the answer is no unfortunately. However, several people in the past have had the same issue, and basically they take the case apart and glue the PWR button back on. Should be some old threads in the Q & A which cover what they did to repair it.
Seems these tablets are starting to fall apart this year. Mine just hard bricked for it's final time last night. None of our good tools can get it back, and I'm one of the "BrickMasters":laugh:
If you were in Moscow, I would just let you change your mainboard, into my case (PWR button works)

Thank you Moscow Desire.
I don't have the pleasure to know Moscow yet, unfortunately.
I'm aware of the the button repair with glue or soldering, which is beyond my technical abilities. I do software, not hardware... I know I could get it repaired for $50 in USA, plus shipping, but that approaches the cost of a replacement tablet as prices have lowered a lot. The A501 was a great, awesome product 3 years ago, but its age starts to show...
Before sending for repair or thrashing it, I wanted confirmation it can't be jump started... Your answer confirms it is not possible.
I'll check with some more technically inclined friends to see if the can fix it.
Thanks,
Francois

Yeah, pretty much they just aren't worth the cost of repair. Heck, I think you can buy a working one for about $50 bucks anyhow.
But the glue method is pretty easy I think, if I remember right.
Here's a link to the service manual

But hey, if you're gonna thrash it, how about sending me it's mainboad?
My bootloader memory partition got corrupted beyond repair yesterday (my little girls entertainment).
I have an A701 (nice display, but rest of tablet is junk. No more Acer for me) Think I will got Sammy for the newer 10.1 model.

Thankd for the manual. I might give it a try, with some help.
Do anyone know if it could be booted up using a docking station? http://www.acer.ae/ac/en/AE/content/model/LC.DCK0A.001. I see a Power button on the remote control. Or directly via the dock pins, maybe shorting some?
Just checking.
Thanks for any info.

I have no idea. Docking stations never were that popular, at least not over here.
Good luck Mate!

I saw the day before yesterday that someone had posted about a sale at Staples for the FTV. I ordered one in the hopes that it might still be rootable. I paid $84 for it and had it shipped free. I got it the next day...(today).
Last week I purchased an older Dlink router for $15 because my high end router didn't allow URL blocking and I wanted to be able to block updates from it. Now I'm thrilled that I did! I have 5 of these units all setup perfectly to boot to XBMC the way I like and with all my shortcuts already installed although they were purchased from a young college computer science major who programs these better than any I've ever seen. Today I decided to try one myself.
3 or 4 times during the setup the unit started to download the new software and I pulled the plug to stop it out of sheer panic. When I finally realized that it was never going to boot up completely until I let it go through the entire setup routine I bit the bullet and trusted that the router would do the trick. The unit looked as though it made a complete download and also a complete install of the new software..... I knew I was doomed with an unrootable unit, but figured at some point someone would come up with a way to root the new firmware.
When it was all done I immediately went into settings and checked the firmware.... Low and behold the router did it's job and the unit had the old firmware on it!!! It's now rooted with XBMC installed and updates blocked thanks to the fantastic FTV utility posted on this forum. As far as I'm concerned I just got a unit for half price! If I had the extra money I'd get another one!
I only post this to thank everyone here who has answered ignorant questions from me and posted so many great ways to modify and install apps on this unit. In just a couple of weeks I feel as though Ive learned an immense amount of knowledge.... thanks to this site and it's great members!!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Good to hear man. Im guessing there are some units still out there. Although a gamble at best.

Just got the 2 new units already.....One day delivery....I'm blown away. I don't even have to open them to know they're rootable. The serial numbers on them are almost 10K below some of my rooted units. This store must be loaded with older units..... all three of these have very early serial numbers compared to the first loaded units I purchased on Fleabay. The prices on rooted units is on the rise... sellers must be running out of them.... They need to come out here in the sticks to get them!

Not really... Other then external storage stuff. There is a Linux project moving forward & some folks are working on kernels. But for now they can do just about the same.

Crazytala if you are looking to use xbmc on the box just sideload gotham 13.2 on it my new box has the latest firmware but gotham and addons like mash navi x livetv are all working fine on my non rooted box.
I just picked one up this week that was purchased at a Staples in Fort Worth Texas and it had rom 51.1.0.1_user_510055620 on it. Already have it clockwork modded, rooted updated and blocked future updates. If I had the money I'd go pick up a few more!
My local Staples had plenty and the clerk says that have not sold any yet. The firmware is rootable. I stayed up late last night rooting it, tonight I will finish the rest and get this baby running.
Guys, if you can pick up a rootable version, Would it be possible to get a shipping quote to the UK? I can pay via PayPal etc and would chuck in some more $ for the time.
I've got a UK Fire TV, but I don't see root coming anytime soon. I'd simply sell my unrootable on eBay. Would go along way of covering the one coming in. You can get rootable ones on eBay UK though shipped from America, but fees etc bump the price up.
Thanks
I was dumb and lazy and skipped asking some experts what android head unit I should order.
Ordered one off Ebay and it broke the 2nd day. Stuck on boot logo. completely unresponsive to anything but the RST button, which only reset it.
Spent the last 4 days fugging with it, nothing will bring up the recovery screen, i've tried everything.
The seller sent me an update file that doesn't work, go figure.
I was gonna just figure it out but I just noticed a dead pixel so that settles it, sending it back.
Please recommend a decent one yall have experience with. We just need ~40Wx4, GPS, WIFI, LTE would be cool, but not a deal breaker.
