If your boot loader is already unlocked (which I guess it is unless you ran an RUU), skip to the step of flashing recovery through fastboot.

You are sure that you are eng s-off
Boot.img is your kernel not recovery
For flash recovery download https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CDUQFjAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dext.recovery.control%26hl%3Dnl%26referrer%3Dutm_source%253Dgoogle%2526utm_medium%253Dorganic%2526utm_term%253D4ext%2Brecovery&ei=sBZJUOShDKnS0QW8mIDICA&usg=AFQjCNGWV0EVMJGOfdmMccHpghgoHX4QoQ
Or adb command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
For enter recovery "adb reboot recovery"
Or take out the battery whait 20 sec.
Push the volume down button and the power button. You wil see a white screen thats your bootloader.
Than select recovery using volume button power button is enter.

Hey thx for ur reply iam not Soff but i was able to instaL clockword mode.
I want to instal custom rom
Do i need to be soff and rooted
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using xda app-developers app

I believe you can install a custom rom in this state. You will need to flash the rom in clockworkmod and then flash the boot.img from fastboot. Do a full system wipe incl dalvik cache from clockworkmod first. If you can't find boot.img in the root directory of the zip file it will be in the kernel folder.
Why not just s-off with AAHK first? If you are s-off it makes it a lot easier.

I need to make a downgrade. But ur right its better to root. Thxx

[Q] Step 2 problems

hey,
When i'm in bootloader or Recovery and i type ADB Devices it cant find any.
So when i try and run step 2 it says:
Error: No Device detected.
And help please?
You really don't need step 2.. Just download the clockworkmod recovery.. (update.zip) and place it in the root of the sd-card.. along with the rooted rom you want to use.. reboot to recovery apply update.zip and install the rooted rom.. that should do the trick..

Flashing recovery thru terminal app

I can flash a recovery.img with no problem on 2.3, "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img". But when using 2.2 I get "flash_image: not found". What has to be in the build to make that function work?

Now you need a PC36IMG of a custom recovery. Flash the recovery by putting the file on the root of your SD card. After that boot into recovery and flash the Rom of your choice. Do not use a ruu. Find the prerooted version and flash it in recovery.

Find the amon_ra 2.3 recovery in the EVO development section. It is in the first post. You need the PC36IMG.zipPut that file on the root of your SD card. Hold power and volume down to get to the bootloader. It will search for that file. It will ask you if you want to apply the update. Press volume up for yes. When it finishes it will ask if you want to reboot. Press volume down for no. Now you are back at the bootloader menu. Select recovery and now you should be in your custom recovery. From here you can flash custom roms.

You are doing something wrong. Make sure you put that file on the root of your sdcard. Meaning not in any folders. It has to be named exactly like this. PC36IMG.zip Sometimes operating systems hide the filetype so if you added .zip to PC36IMG try removing the .zip. Also make sure you only have one PC36IMG on your sdcard at a time.

Try to grab the latest clock work mod. It's like 5 something now
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk
Where can I download it from and can I just install it in recovery because that will be the only way I can update it and thank you
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA
you can go to koushs clockworkmod site and find it, its 5.0.2.0 currently unless youve want to use the touch recovery which is 5.8.1.6 then you can just toss it into a PG06IMG.zip file from another recovery like the twrp recovery and flash it through bootloader like you would a radio
Thank you so much I'm about to do it now

it has to be flashed through the bootloader, thats your problem.
reboot the phone hold power and volume down and go into the bootloader and let it install itself
So the cwm has to go through the bootloader

Your card may need to be formatted to fat32 in order for the zip to be recognized. Do you have sdk set up on your pc? You could just flash through fastboot..

How do I manually reroot nexus 7??

Ok every guide I looked at said you can easily flash something to gain root again well in order to flash anything you have to have root so it doesn't make any sense and I didn't see any guides on this or related posts and I'm running 4.2.2
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package.
What is so complicated about that?
you dont need root to flash something, you need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.....
i swear the word root has lost all meaning these days. everyone wants it, but it seems so very few actually understand what it is.
Pretty sure you just need to fastboot flash a custom recovery, then you can flash the superuser binaries by chainsdd (Google the package), then install superuser or superSU from the market.
Not familiar with nexus 7, but this is how I rooted a galaxy nexus. There should be a sticky in your device specific forum with links to the process and files.
From my Evo LTE, yup.

Dude,
As the guides tell you, and I lined out above, you need to FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY
unless you are already rooted, then downloading ROM Manager or 'recovery manager' from the app store doesnt do any good....
you need a computer to do this in fastboot mode.
Damn I was hoping I could avoid using my friends very slow comp lol
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm in the similar situation - I upgraded rooted 4.2.1 via modified OTA (original OTA was failing because of one apk) and now I have 4.2.2, but even though I had SuperSU which was ticked to "survival mode" (should keep the root), it apparently didn't. I don't have TWRP anymore, when I press power+vol dn I get the standard "start" screen (original recovery). Also, when I turn N7 on, it is displaying keychain that is OPEN, that means my bootloader is unlocked?
So my question(s)... my bootloader is probably unlocked? If I do the steps:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package
will I loose all data/apps? I ask because when I first rooted with toolkit, I lost all apps/data.
Also, where to find supersu.zip ? That is different to the installed SuperSU.apk, right?
Damn I can't make ADB work... I tried 2 computers.... Damn google for making this so [email protected]#[email protected]$ .... Constant problems, nothing else. Any clues? I ofcourse, tried kill-server and start-server, no matter what my device is showing offline....
Just checked with my phone (SGNII) and it is working just fine... no clue why Nexus is showing as offline..
