[Q] Step 2 problems - Legend General

hey,
When i'm in bootloader or Recovery and i type ADB Devices it cant find any.
So when i try and run step 2 it says:
Error: No Device detected.
And help please?

You really don't need step 2.. Just download the clockworkmod recovery.. (update.zip) and place it in the root of the sd-card.. along with the rooted rom you want to use.. reboot to recovery apply update.zip and install the rooted rom.. that should do the trick..

Recovery Mode doesn't work

Hi guys,
first sorry for my bad english.
I have a big problem to face with my N1
I wish to install a custom ROM, so I've rooted my phone and downloaded the Rom Manager apps from Market. I've flashed the clockwork recovery and downloaded the cyanogenmod. So I reboot my phone in fastboot mode, select recovery and now I have a black screen, nothing happens. My phone boot only when I take off the battery, so now I have no Recovery mode in my phone. Someone can help me please ?
I've already tryed to flash the original recovery and AmonRA recovery (1.7.0 and 1.8.0) from my PC but it fails everytime and I have this message => FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
My N1 is in FRF91 build, with a Vodafone ROM from France (SFR)
The recovery is dependant on which screen you have. You've possibly flashed an incompatible recovery...
Which screen do you have?
How are you flashing your recovery?

Is the USB cable plugged in AT ALL? I keep hearing Clockwork is unstable if it is.
I stick with Amon myself.

I have an SLCD screen and i've tryed all clockwork recoveries featured in Rom Manager app and the latest AmonRA ( 1.8.0 )
But the problem is when i try to flash it with my PC by connecting the phone in fastboot mode, i allways have this message : FAILED (remote: signature verify fail) which means I can't flash any recovery :s
Do you know what is the problem ?
Sounds like you flashed an incompatible recovery. You're heading in the right direction with Amon-Ra 1.8.0...
How are you flashing the recovery? (Since your current recovery has a black screen, are you using adb, trying to do it through Clockworkmod, etc?)
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yeah i've tryed to flash the latest clockwork recovery with Rom Manager, it works, i mean i can flash it this way but i have the same result : black screen. And flashing it with my PC using - fastboot flash recovery <recovery name>.img - code give me the failure message that i talk about on my last post
I've read a few posts about 1.8.0 failing with Clockworkmod, and I believe the adb and terminal methods require an unlocked bootloader. There are a few methods to flash custom recoveries without unlocking the bootloader (I still have a locked bootloader). Do a search, find one you like, and give it a try. Clockworkmod is one of those methods, but again, I've read problems with the 1.8.0 recovery on Clockworkmod...

thanks a lot for helping me by sending this link but as I said before, unfortunately I can't flash the recovery even with my PC, the only solution seems to make a bootloader unlocking, but I don't want to loose the warranty, i'll check other ways to do this without unlocking my bootloader, if someone know how to do this, i'll be thankful.
The link also discusses how to flash without unlocking the bootloader, which is why I sent it... (see posts from September 27)

Yes but see what hapen when I try it =>
The locked bootloader discussion points to this, which suggests using terminal emulator from your phone...

...but with 1.8.0
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Sure ? Not with 1.8.0.1 ? Because I have an SLCD screen
I meant 1.8x instead of the 1.7x they mention in the write up...
Also, you can ignore my comment about using terminal emulator, and use adb if you want (long day, and I'm tired)
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I surrender, it doesn't work, and I'm tired of trying flashing a recovery. It means no custom ROM for me :'(
Take a break, and come back to it tomorrow...

What ROM do you have (build number)
Hi, so my build number is FRF91, I bought it from SFR (Vodafone)

Flashing new recovery isnt working.

Hey, I am trying to successfully get a new ROM, and in all the forums and such I have read tell me that with the Desire Z/G2 I need to flash the newest ClockWorkMod recovery. So i have downloaded a couple different recovery .img files.
Now when i use Emulator, i put in;
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recoveryname.img
and it says
flash_image: not found
I dont understand why ROM Manager doesnt give the newest recovery file as an option.
Can anyone help me in this situation?
Thanks

Download Root Explorer and navigate to /system/bin
Make sure /system is mounted in r/w then take this attached file, unzip it, and place it inside of /system/bin
Go back into terminal and try that command again.
ok so I installed root manager, and put the flash_image.zip in the system/bit, and tried it again with the terminal emulator, but i still have no results, it says after the pause when you plress enter after the flash_image prompt, your supposed to reboot the phone and it should start with the new recovery, but when i open ROM manager it staill shows V 2.5.... If i did somthing wrong i cant figure it out., Please help.
Thanks

Follow these instructions. You can't go wrong. Make sure you back out of the app and go back in. It sets the cursor to the correct posistion. All you have to do is put the .img in the root of your sd. Hope this helps, it did for me.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
wait, so why aren't you just flashing the recovery through ROM manager? Are you trying to install CWR 3.0+?
yes I am trying to flash cwm 3.0, and it is not an option with ROM manager. I will try the Youtube instructions. Thanks
Ok so I tried the instructions with the Youtube video, and when i do the cmd promt in Terminal i get this;
Cant open device: "/dev/block/mmcblk0"
error in reading mbr!
failed with error: -1
I have the recovery.img file (not zip) on the sd card, I used root mamnager to put it in the bin file within system. but the instructions on the video say to use astro and it doesnt give an option to go as deep as root manager.
Thanks
Yes unzip it but make sure its in the root of your sd. That means not folders at all. That's the command that he is making in the video. I don't think you can flash cwm 3.0 in rom manager, only revert back to earlier recoveries, for froyo roms.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Make sure the file is named what your commanding it to be. Make sure its recovery.img no caps.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
OK so I am trying this too. I am putting the recovery image directly to the root of my sd and I can see that it's there. But in TE, I put in the commands and it tells me
flash_image: not found
It's there!!!! I can see it when I have my phone connected. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: I am running stock rooted. Does this have something to do with it?
Rooted running a stock rom? Honestly I can't tell you all I know is I'm running custom rom. If I had to guess I would say it doesn't. All I can say is I had issues until I watched the video, sorry I can't help more. Only thing I would say to do is wipe everything you did and try redoing it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I can say you should only have one .img in your sd to not confuse it. I'm pretty sure you can use command prompt on your pc if you have access to one.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Ok, I think I am getting somewhere, I was searching my sdcard on my computer, and I realised that the root of my sdcard is not called "sdcard" so in the command i was doing it wrong, It is called "HTC DESIRE" so i did it in Emulator and it worked i rebooted my phone in recovery and I am now rocking the new ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5...
Thanks all for the help, Hope what i discovered helps someone else.
Wait, Wait, Wait... I just screwed it up again... I went into ROM Manager after I successfully flashed 3.0.0.5. and it was not showing that in ROM Manager, so I tapped on flash latest recovery, and damnit... it replaced all my hard work with the 2.5 recovery... I have tried to repeat the flash process a few times with 3.0, and i have not been successful... Help... I dont know what to do now!!!
Instead of flashing the recovery in rom manager, after you've inputted the
su
# flash_image recovery sdcard/recovery.img
you can just type in after it
# reboot recovery
and it will reboot you into CWM 3.0. Be sure to perform a nandroid backup under 2.2 first and when you want to go back to a froyo rom, you'll have to flash the 2.5 recovery image again.
Yes, you will not see it in rom manager. Just reboot into the recovery and if you see orange and cwm 3.0 your good. Just repeat the steps.

"flash_image: not found" means that you do not have the 'flash_image' binary installed. Follow the guide here to get 'flash_image' installed on your device (the 'flash_image' binary is attached).
As for why ROM Manager not giving the newest recovery as an option, ROM Manger isn't fully compatible with the latest recovery as it just came out. The latest recovery (I'm assuming you're referring to v3.x) is only for Gingerbread based ROM's, if you're trying to install a Froyo based ROM then you should be using recovery version 2.x.

I will try this tonight, thank you. I haven't run into this in any of the tutorials I've read though. I appreciate it.
Hey everyone I found a site that shows me how to flash CWM 3.0 through ROM Manager,
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-3-using-rom-manager/
However, it is not working for me, if anyone has been successful in doing it this way please let me know cause evrything i try this i still am left with CWM 2.5. I really want to try the new Cyanagen nightly ROM, but i need to have 3.0... I had it once when i was doing it through terminal, however stupid me went back into rom manager and ruined what i did, and could not redo it... i am getting frustrated.
Please Help me.

Update to a new Recovery

Hello together,
im running currently CWM 3.0.0.6 and would like to update to a newer version
with no Charging-bug. I have some questions about this.
1. Can i update CWM via flashing a zip...?
2. Which CWM version would you recommend at the moment? ( A link would be great)
3. Do i loose my old recovery files or is it compatibel?
Thank you very much in advance!
You can update Rom Manager from market and then you can update recovery using Rom Manager. It automatically downloads and installs updated recovery AFAIK.
Rom manager only gives you a temporary recovery, the easiest way I've found is an app called root toolbox pro, download the recovery image save it to your sd card then open the app choose advanced/flash recovery navigate to your img file on your sd card. Job done.

cant find advanced/flash recovery in root toolbox pro, is there any other option to install a new recovery?
when i just flash it its only temporary
Terminal emulator method works a treat. Can't remember command and busy at wedding reception at mo. But search for how to flash cwm via terminal and it'll work.

The easiest and quickest is to fastboot flash recovery
Your recovery backup will still be fine

How do I manually reroot nexus 7??

Ok every guide I looked at said you can easily flash something to gain root again well in order to flash anything you have to have root so it doesn't make any sense and I didn't see any guides on this or related posts and I'm running 4.2.2
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package.
What is so complicated about that?
you dont need root to flash something, you need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.....
i swear the word root has lost all meaning these days. everyone wants it, but it seems so very few actually understand what it is.
Pretty sure you just need to fastboot flash a custom recovery, then you can flash the superuser binaries by chainsdd (Google the package), then install superuser or superSU from the market.
Not familiar with nexus 7, but this is how I rooted a galaxy nexus. There should be a sticky in your device specific forum with links to the process and files.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
I went to fastboot but when I go into recovery I get an error

Dude,
As the guides tell you, and I lined out above, you need to FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY
unless you are already rooted, then downloading ROM Manager or 'recovery manager' from the app store doesnt do any good....
you need a computer to do this in fastboot mode.
Damn I was hoping I could avoid using my friends very slow comp lol
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm in the similar situation - I upgraded rooted 4.2.1 via modified OTA (original OTA was failing because of one apk) and now I have 4.2.2, but even though I had SuperSU which was ticked to "survival mode" (should keep the root), it apparently didn't. I don't have TWRP anymore, when I press power+vol dn I get the standard "start" screen (original recovery). Also, when I turn N7 on, it is displaying keychain that is OPEN, that means my bootloader is unlocked?
So my question(s)... my bootloader is probably unlocked? If I do the steps:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package
will I loose all data/apps? I ask because when I first rooted with toolkit, I lost all apps/data.
Also, where to find supersu.zip ? That is different to the installed SuperSU.apk, right?
Damn I can't make ADB work... I tried 2 computers.... Damn google for making this so [email protected]#[email protected]$ .... Constant problems, nothing else. Any clues? I ofcourse, tried kill-server and start-server, no matter what my device is showing offline....
Just checked with my phone (SGNII) and it is working just fine... no clue why Nexus is showing as offline..

your going to have to flash CWM, also what rom are you on? it sounds like your aboot image is not right
4.4 Roms can not be flashed using 2.6.3.2 you need to find a version of 2.6.3.3 or 2.6.3.4 for your device.

Hi.. First step is to follow step by step th is guide i link to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46204640
If u succes to install stock Rom.. Then u re root and install unofficial cwm, Can be found in ur devices forum.
Then download/transfer The cm rom u wanted, and GAapps IF needed... Just remember to read install instructions and follow them. And do a backup before installing cm rom
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
2.6.3.3 and .4 typically come in a flashable zip. You flash it in twrp like you would a ROM and it updates it.
If you do not have a ROM downloaded you can use to get back to a ROM to download side zip file, then you should check the thread on here (that you should have originally used to get your recovery image to flash on your phone.)
And follow the directions on there how to push it using adb. Once that's done you should be able to flash normally.

Update? Please reply if it worked for you.. And i would recommend u to use CWM, because alot of people, experience problems using twrp including myself..
