Hello together,
im running currently CWM 3.0.0.6 and would like to update to a newer version
with no Charging-bug. I have some questions about this.
1. Can i update CWM via flashing a zip...?
2. Which CWM version would you recommend at the moment? ( A link would be great)
3. Do i loose my old recovery files or is it compatibel?
Thank you very much in advance!
You can update Rom Manager from market and then you can update recovery using Rom Manager. It automatically downloads and installs updated recovery AFAIK.
Rom manager only gives you a temporary recovery, the easiest way I've found is an app called root toolbox pro, download the recovery image save it to your sd card then open the app choose advanced/flash recovery navigate to your img file on your sd card. Job done.

cant find advanced/flash recovery in root toolbox pro, is there any other option to install a new recovery?
when i just flash it its only temporary
Terminal emulator method works a treat. Can't remember command and busy at wedding reception at mo. But search for how to flash cwm via terminal and it'll work.

The easiest and quickest is to fastboot flash recovery
Your recovery backup will still be fine

Flash a pre rooted kernel. This forum is full of them, or look in the sticky wiki for a rooted stock rom.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't flash a rom unless yo are already rooted so this would not work. Right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, you can flash a rooted rom without being rooted, however you need clockwork recovery.
Sent from my spot on the earth.
Don't you need root or a computer to install clockwork?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Download rom manager, then use rom manager to download clockwork mod, then use astro which is a free app available in the market which is very useful, to open the sd card folder, then go to clockwork mod folder then copy recovery-update.zip and paste it to the root of your sd card and rename it just update. It's already a zip file so you don't have to type.zip. Now reboot into stock recovery and apply update.zip. Does not work with froyo. But if you down load the clockwork redirect, then you can install that once you get into clockwork recovery after you flash a froyo rom before you reboot. But using adb to flash the permanent clockwork kernel is the best way.....try this......update.zip method:
1. boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
2. Apply : http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/clockworkmod2.5.1.0update-fixed.zip

Greetings!
I think the more easy way is to use ROM Manager, this APK is also developed by auther of Clockworkmod, you can run the app and directly enter to recovery screen without flash the recovery image to you phone!!
Hi i just update to 2.3.4 and try to root it and work fine with me
Download this file and move it to your NS
http://www.mediafire.com/?0a4abln7x3gjgrv
after your flash the recovery then ..
On your phone, use the volume key to highlight "recovery". Press power to boot into recovery.
in the recovery screen, select mounts and storage
mount /system
mount /data
go back, and choose install zip from sd card
choose "choose zip from sd card"
pick the su package zip file you copied over earlier

You have to go back to stock GRI40, i.e. with a Nandroid restore?! But this will be the correct thread for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055591&page=12

That probably means your phone is no longer rooted. Download 'Root Checker' from the Market to check, but if you installed 2.3.4 ROM, your phone should be un-rooted though.

Same situation/problem
For those stock rooted but bootloader locked 2.3.3 users that previously rooting using CWM recovery to update and superuser root method.
You can root the same way...but save the trouble of fastboot recovery step via PC which novice users could be stuck on getting fastboot usb driver to work properly.
0) Just installed ROM Manager (From Market) into your phone
1) Store both 2.3.4 update.zip and SuperUser.zip into SDCard
2) Run ROM Manager
3) Activate CWM Recovery
=> Make sure recovery is installed succesfully..check ROM Manager screen which tell whether the installation is successfully done.
4) Reboot recovery from ROM Manager App
5) Follow thread #1 on the rest
6) After applying update.zip..do not reboot...do a system mount from CWM Recovery then apply SuperUser.zip ..after completing all steps..do a reboot..
Voila your 2.3.4 is installed and rooted..
Thanks, but this way comes to late for me and some other users. We've flashed the update without rooting.
And now we need another way for root ...
I was wondering if we could install permanent ClockworkMod recovery on Samsung Galaxy Y. According to the method mentioned here one needs to install ROM Manager and select Flash CLockworkMod Recovery and choose the phone as Galaxy Mini. But Galaxy Mini does not appear in the options.
Another method is listed here where you need to download the file and flash via stock recovery. But it is not a permanent ClockworkMod Recovery. Does someone know how to get permanent ClockworkMod Recovery?
There isn't one atm I think. You'll have to wait for a dev to make one.

both methods DO NOT WORK.
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-tass.zip and
CWM_bla_bla.zip
is the same stuff. not working as advertised (meaning: permanently replacing stock recov, if that is what the edify comment wants to say). nobody in this forum even claimed to have been successful.
You have to install an older version of Rom Manager where you can select your phone. Not the latest version of it. But to boot into it, you have to boot through Rom Manager app using 'Boot Into Recovery' option.
What would be the advantage of doing so ?
SGY badass Yphone
You may even flash a custom rom like hyperion 8 which has cwm as its default recovery..

hi to all,
i think we, (s5360 users) can now have a permanent CWM recovery via ROM manager "VERSION 4.7.0.2" mabe????
i had the attached apk file.( Maybe, this it is the oldest version of ROM manager) then after installing, must choose the phone as galaxy MINI as you try to install CWM recovery on it.
of course, you have to boot into recovery via ROM manager.
Hope it helps

That is because of the kernel... So instead of flashing the rom u can flash custom kernel. Besides H8 final doesn't have kernel in it....
Remeber one thing.... A permanent CWM comes with a custom kernel. Otherwise you will have to flash CWM.zip manually from the stock recovery.

Okay so today I ran into a problem trying to flash 3.99 rc2 paranoid android via clockworkmod I didn't see that flashing it using cwm would cause baseband issues and now I have to flash the 4.3 radio but apperantly I need twrp for that so since I do not have a computer and goomanager won't download the latest twrp I was wondering if I can just download the latest version of twrp and flash it using clockwork mod? I know it sounds weird haha flashing a recovery via a recovery but anyways a quick reply would be thankfull

i never use a pc for android, use recovery tools from the market and choose twrp, download and it will reboot to flash, thats it. very convenient
Use this app and choose your recovery tool that you want.

I'm using this tool and it's great.

Its not weird man its a zip file you should download and flash it like you would flash anything else. Simple no need to over think it man just go to TWRP thread and download the zip file of the latest which is 2.6.3.3 I believe. Also the thread name has a paperclip at the end of it so click on it and you will see all attached files within the thread. There you will see all of the TWRP zips... Download latest one and thats it..
Also are you sure you had the latest CWm since I find it hard to believe there is a version that wont work

Yes I'm %100 positive I had latest and the only version of cwm that would not cause issues was the version right before the 6.0.4.3 which I believe is the number if I remember correctly but all is good now I used that app I was recommended and flashed twrp using that and flashed the radio and am now on beanstalk with no problems but I will flash the latest version of twrp now that I know I can haha thanks for the info on that
