I was wondering if we could install permanent ClockworkMod recovery on Samsung Galaxy Y. According to the method mentioned here one needs to install ROM Manager and select Flash CLockworkMod Recovery and choose the phone as Galaxy Mini. But Galaxy Mini does not appear in the options.
Another method is listed here where you need to download the file and flash via stock recovery. But it is not a permanent ClockworkMod Recovery. Does someone know how to get permanent ClockworkMod Recovery?
There isn't one atm I think. You'll have to wait for a dev to make one.

both methods DO NOT WORK.
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-tass.zip and
CWM_bla_bla.zip
is the same stuff. not working as advertised (meaning: permanently replacing stock recov, if that is what the edify comment wants to say). nobody in this forum even claimed to have been successful.
You have to install an older version of Rom Manager where you can select your phone. Not the latest version of it. But to boot into it, you have to boot through Rom Manager app using 'Boot Into Recovery' option.
What would be the advantage of doing so ?
SGY badass Yphone
You may even flash a custom rom like hyperion 8 which has cwm as its default recovery..

Try hyperion 7/8

hi to all,
i think we, (s5360 users) can now have a permanent CWM recovery via ROM manager "VERSION 4.7.0.2" mabe????
i had the attached apk file.( Maybe, this it is the oldest version of ROM manager) then after installing, must choose the phone as galaxy MINI as you try to install CWM recovery on it.
of course, you have to boot into recovery via ROM manager.
Hope it helps

That is because of the kernel... So instead of flashing the rom u can flash custom kernel. Besides H8 final doesn't have kernel in it....
Remeber one thing.... A permanent CWM comes with a custom kernel. Otherwise you will have to flash CWM.zip manually from the stock recovery.

hi all,
I have recently got a samsung galaxy s GT-I9000.
firmware version is 2.2 stock.
now here's what i did.
1. i rooted the phone.
2. downloaded rom manager.
3. via rom manager, i flashed clockworkmod recovery.
now, when i restart in recovery mode, it starts in stock recovery, i.e.. does not enter the CWM recovery menu. i selected the option, install update.zip from internal memory, i get error.
i want to flash a custom rom but cant get CWM on my phone. can someone point out what am i missing. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
Read an educate yourself.
Try search.. it's really easy!
As to the why:
The original recovery won't allow the use of unsigned zips in recovery..
The very quick how..
Copied from another thread on this page:
use Odin to flash this Speedmod kernel if you are on Froyo. If you are on Gingerbread flash the TalonDev kernel using the v2.2 tar
(Thanks @rschenk)
How to use Odin???
Trust me, if you don't know, you should really educate yourself a bit. You can find many tutorials in q&a.. most of the time as sticky post. (As 10000 or so have asked the exact same question.)

Hi Folks,
Just got my 32GB Nexus 7 and am in the process of rooting and of course i will be no doubt trying out custom ROM's i see Paranoid Android and Liquid Smooth both of which i have used (current PA) for the Galaxy S3 also have ROM's for the Nexus 7, anyway i will be selling my laptop and just using the Nexus from here on in, my question is, is it recommended to download Goo Manager to download and Install ROM's, etc, i usually use CWM but am aware that Goo Manager seems to be the more updated and popular choice thesedays and seen as im new to the Nexus i thought you folks could offer some assistance here.
Cheers
Don't need goo manager to flash roms it is just like ROM manger to a degree. I only use it to install the latest twrp recovery and to to check for ROM updates. Seem like u already know how to flash so I won't get into that. Use this site and are others to get ROMs for our n7 store them in a folder ( I have one title Roms) and flash as normal.

Download it from the thread and boot into recovery manually. I wouldn't use goo or ROM manager to flash anything. You did already unlock the boot loader and flash a custom recovery correct? This requires a PC.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Also use CWM to flash roms. I use goo to check if there are ROM updates.
I didn't flash custom recovery but yeah unblocked the bootloader and rooted, cool I'll install cwm then.
Cheers guys

You can only install a custom recovery after being rooted. And the only way to root is to flash a superuser package with you guessed it, a custom recovery. You can't just install ROM manager and flash a custom recovery. You have to manually flash one with fastboot on a PC.

I am sure, this is a beginner question, but this is my first android device, so I hope you will forgive me.
I rooted my device successfully with Djembeys DEODEXED modified Stock Rom (i9505) and now I found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279082) where you can find Mods for i9505.
I am interested in the beats audio mod, so I installed the Goo Manager.
When I select "Flash Rom" the Goo Manager asked my to allow a CWM Recovery.
My questions are: What is a CWM Recovery? Can I install it without any problems? Can I flash the zip for Beats EQ after this is done?
Remember please: This is my first Android device (last was 3.0 HC), so please don´t punish me for so simple questions

You need a custom recovery, either CWM or TWRP, to flash mods roms or kernels. Samsung recovery doesn`t allow this. So yes, install the recovery, you need it.

Ok.. I tried... but it seems that there is no official CWM Recovery for my i9505.
Do I have to wait or is there something out there working?

thank you! You saved my life!
I just rooted via the CF-auto root method. I'd like to try out some custom ROMS, but from what I gather I need CWM Recovery? I have the CWM ROM Manager installed, but it says my model is not supported when trying to download the CWM Recovery version. If this is not the right track for loading custom ROMS with this model can somebody point me in the right direction? Or perhaps give me a tutorial?
Reading the OP in any of the custom roms here will most likely suggest a recovery and set you on the right path.

You can download twrp manager from play store and try installing twrp recovery. If you have the sph-l720 sprint s4 your device name to choose in twrp manager is jfltespr

I read it on a website that I can't find now. But in this link you can see jfltespr right in the title. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262999
Also, I currently use twrp and it's what I did so I know it works. Oh and in rom manager for CWM when you try to install recovery it even says Samsung galaxy s4 (sprint) jfltespr. If this helps hit thanks plz
