Staples warranty - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my Nexus 7 from Staples yesterday and the salesman offered me a 40 dollar protection warranty for a year. Do you guys think it's worth the 40 bucks? Doesn't Asus give u a one year warranty anyways? I didn't buy it but I'm wondering if I made a bad choice by not. Opinions please. Thanks
Edit. The salesman said the warranty covers everything and no questions asked. I just come in and get a brand new one. Just seems to go to be true.

Best is to ask for a copy of the policy, and see what it really covers. $40 warranty covering screen breakage MAY be worth it.. I was gonna consider squaretrade

Yeah that's a good idea. It's hard to believe some sales people but I didn't know the screen issue was so bad on these devices

Rant about Best buy

Hey guys,
Not sure if it belongs here or should be in another section, basically I want to share my experience with buying a tablet from best buy with the black tie program. My asus tf101 stopped charging so, I was like aright time to head to best buy to get it repaired. But, They said we don't repair tablets can only replace it with another. I was okay with that too, then they said You got to buy a new warranty since you are getting a new tablet, the old warranty has been fulfilled. Now that's made me angry so you only get 1 replacement out of a 2 year plan.... Epic fail or what? Sorry for my rant....
i would have gone through asus not best buy to get it replaced or fixed as the device itsself comes with a year warrenty

That been awesome but I'm out of the 1 year warranty that Asus offers. Any way I just want to let users know that best buy don't repair tablets so kind of a useless warranty

The list of stuff that best buy actually fixes is quite small.
Think about it. I could buy a tablet & buy the warranty. Then I could conceivably keep going to best buy to get a newer tablet say one a month. That is the reason their warranty replaces the item once which isn't just unique to tablets.

Yeah, but mine had a legit problem and I was basically forced to get a different tablet....It was either take their replacement or leave with a broken tablet....
I don't care much for Best Buy either but I think you would have found this would of happened with most other stores as well. Best Buy is only obligated to replace your item for 30 days then it goes to the manufacturer warranty which I believe only last a year. After that, your item breaks then your out of luck, normally. However, you purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy which means they will replace it (If they can) long after the manufacturer warranty ran out. In that sense they're taking the hit for the manufacturer's defect. The extended warranty did it's job and saved you from having to buy a new tablet. Also, it's natural they couldn't replace an over a year old tablet, the mobile world moves fast and three other transformers have come out since the TF101. I doubt many (if any) Best Buy stores still carry brand new TF101's. I'm at least assuming they let you select a tablet that's worth what your TF101 was at time of purchase?
What's the problem you are getting a new tablet on the warranty past the year the manufacturer gives you.If the new warranty is less than full price of the tablet ok they have to make some money on the deal.I personally never buy the extended warranty on tech items under $500 usual if it breaks it's in the first year. That's why BB makes a lot of money on this most don't break. They never fix anything just replace it cheaper for them.
I don't think that is a bad deal.
- with warranty You waked out with a new tablet.
OR
- Without warranty You go home broken.
It is definitely different than PC warranties, my neighbor has been through 3 HP laptops on the same warranty and they keep extending it. She is definitely getting her money's worth but I'm sure that HP lost money on that deal. If you are still upset make sure you let best buy know about, and and not just verbally. It maybe worth writing or calling and trying get upper level support involved. Never hurts to read the fine print too if you still have the original paperwork
Just my 2¢

[Q] Ran Over!

My TF101 got run over by a School Bus a few days ago... My parents don't think it would be wise to get it replaced under warranty cause they think it would cost more than buying a new tablet like a Nexus 7.
What do you think? I really need the input...
What's the term of your warranty?
Deductible amount ect.? Can't answer without knowing a little more details.
Go for the nexus 7. It's got the tegra 3 and its a nexus device. So google updates as soon as they are available.
And all that for under 200 euros.
Plus you cannot have a device repaired under warrenty that was ran over by a school bus. Somehow I don't think that is covered by the Asus warrenty

I don't know the deductible... I am only 15... It is a 1 year warranty and it is refurbished.

ok it's probably one of those in store warranty. I though you had purchase an extended protection plan or something. In that case being run over by a bus is not covered. Your parents probably right, cheaper to get a new one than to fix.

Yeah... I figured it probably would be cheaper... Now the only problem is... We don't even have enough money to buy a Nexus 7...

Anyone thinking about getting any 3rd party warranty?

After getting this phone I'm freaked out I'm going to shatter it instantly... so have any of you thought about an accidental damage warranty at all? Like square trade or anything? Thanks

$125 plan + $99 deductible for any claim? Is this a joke? Lol. I'd rather risk having to pay $125 more to buy a new phone in the event something does happen and benefit from saving $225 if nothing happens over the next 2 years that won't be covered by the manufacturer. That warranty is a really really poor investment.

The phone itself just isn't worth the warranty. For the most part, I'll be expecting LG to be replacing the phones that have cracked due to defect and anything related to the radios and whatnot will be covered as well. This is LG's prime time and I'm sure they don't want to mess it up with additional bad press.

Broke my 6p screen :(

Got it on Wednesday with o2 on contract, dropped it tonight at work while waiting for my case to arrive Monday anyone know how much they are to fix? I bet it ain't cheap in UK btw
Why would you do that for
Felt like being upset lol
At least you are being honest about it lol... Give Huawei a call or just get insurance and then declare it broken. Or check with your credit card. Most of them offer protection for accidents.
Bummer, hope you're able to get it replaced...

You should always buy a case and screen protector right when you buy your device so that you'll have them altogether the same day or even earlier.
I think you still might able to sign up for nexus protect or something. Do it. It's probably your cheapest option. You might have to wait to file a claim. But if you can hold out give that a shot. Or call huawei

Nexus protect can only be purchased when you buy the device, unless you got it on Fi before Nprotect was available.
I asked if I could sign up for nexus protect and they told me that It had to be purchased at time of sale. Otherwise I would of had to send back phone and then re purchase it with the protection.... How dumb is that? They would rather get a used open phone back rather then take my 80+ bucks for protection I may never use anyhow

How dumb is that? Dumb like a fox. They'd rather have you send back the phone so they know you aren't trying to scam them by buying insurance for a phone you already broke. Oh, wait. People are suggesting the OP should try to scam them. Duh.

I hate both. I'd rather run naked. They don't guarantee anything anyway. I've seen cased and screen protected phones crack.

He isn't scamming anybody as long as he purchases extra insurance. Other manufacturers even fix the screen for free for you, so save you fake whatever you are trying to come out as for another time.
Checkout square trade for a warranty. Their only requirement is sign up within 30 days of purchase and proof of purchase. Amazing service to!
If you bought it from google then call them. Tell them you broke the screen. You will get one time replacement for a fee. My father in law paid $100 for Nexus 6 for broken screen after only 4 days of purchase.

Sorry, you clearly don't understand contract law, nor have you read the terms of the Protect policy (I have). Signing up for insurance on an already broken device is a violation of the terms of the policy and contract fraud. What "other" manufacturers do has no relevance here. Don't talk about things you don't understand.

That was the policy on the 6. Are you sure Google is still offering that on the 6P? I think Protect has replaced that deal.
If you break it they won't repair it unless you have Nexus Protect

No, of course I am not sure. But worth a try.
There's another thread here that indicates neither Google nor Huawei will perform a non-warranty repair on a broken 6P, at any price, unless it's covered by Protect. They tell you to take it to an independent repair shop.

Nexus 6P and SquareTrade Insurance

so i purchased my nexus through huawei off course they offer no insurance so i looked online and found square trade they have a pretty good track record with coverage i purchased the insurance and was wondering if anyone has experience with them how does the process work do they send you a replacement phone if you file a claim or do they fix the phone for example broken screen. they have a nexus insurance option which is the one i purchased. the plan i got covers accidental damage and malfunctions.

File a claim.
They give you a shipping labe.
Ship the device.
They evaluate.
They either fix or refund.
I've had both happen.
For a camera, they sent me a refurb.
I had a Nexus 7 and they gave me the cost of the item.

they're great... and it depends on your issue. My issue was my screen was shattered. In this case, they couldn't replace the glass (apparently Huawei made this thing impossible to fix a screen) so they shipped me a new one. (by shipped, they actually bought me one from amazon and shipped it since they didn't carry any on inventory.) they send you a label to ship your old phone back. needs to be done in 7 days I think. so I had my old broken but working phone for 3 days before the new one came. swapped out the sim and shipped the old one out... worked great.
for my family, I have 3 phones covered with them.

Keep in mind the insurance plus deductible is $200. You could get the screen replaced for less. Unless you're sure the phone is going to fall off a building it might make more sense to put the money in a savings account.

I think we all know how insurance works. Keeping money in a savings won't replace your device. It's actually $99 for 2years and $75 an incident. That pretty damn cheap.
"Unless you sure it's going to fall off a building"
Really? If we could predict the future we wouldn't need insurance would we. It's called peace of mind. You never know what may happen, and for $7.50 a month it's a no brainer to me.
I have square trade. Best deal on insurance I ever had. Before I always had it through Asurion (I'm on Sprint) and this is cheaper. I went with Square because my 6p was a gift and I didn't get insurance at 1st because of this.. Sure was glad for the person on here who referred me to them. ?✌
