I watch youtube video alot, using tubemate to download video, 1280x720, 640x360,
My ms2 can't play 720p video smoothly, been using all video player I can install.
My friend htc desire can play a same 720p video very smooth, but my ms2 can not, can only play 640x360 smoothly.
Is any ms2 the same or just mine?

Milestone2 is not well in 720p hardware decoding.
Mine is playing 720p very smoothly. I download clips from youtube (by keepvid btw) to my PC and then transfer them to phone. And no matter what player am I using it's smooth as hell .
I was traying some clips in 720p in mp4 format played via DLNA from my notebook, and was very smooth. You are writing about avi or mp4 movies?

cant be movies because i recently saw a documentary in 720p on my phone in flight and it was superb. no lag, and really smooth
perhaps the person who has issues is running something memory intensive in the background?
It greatly depends on what codecs are being used.

why use anything else than H264 anyway.. use Mobo Player (best video player ever, smothest playing ever and almost all formats you ever need ot play)
even plays 1080p movies with ~21FPS (1,4ghz overclocked) on my MS2..
I have the same issue on my MS2 @@
I also downloaded a 720p mp4 video via Tubemate from youtube
Playing of the video is not very smooth
especially the first 30 seconds, it really lags
After playing for a while it becomes smooth again but still may have some random lag
I have rebooted my MS2 before playing the video so as to clean up RAM, but the problem didn't solved.
The MoboPlayer have similar performance as the stock video player...do I need to download any moboplayer codec?..
Does anyone know how to solve this
*update : I am thinking, would it be the problem of sd card? what class of sd card are you guys using? Is my Toshiba 16GB C4 sd card too slow?
I have downloaded SD-Booster and set the cache size to 2048kb
By the way wich one is correct Mobo codec for M2?
I just know it is ARMv7.

So download this for ARMv7 BTW I couldn't play movies with the Mobo player. If You will have any problem with this player, try the Rock player
MotoMilestone 2 & TapTalk
Hey guys,
I'm gonna keep it short. My dad has a galaxy s and he's too fond of watching videos. Unfortunately, on every ROM I've tried, video playback isn't smooth at all. One of the reason I guess is the second core and hardware decoding issues whatever, but there should be a solution.. which I am not able to. I feel really bad for him, help me out?
He bought my a Galaxy Nexus and uses the i9000 himself and I really wanna help him out.
Videos play great for me on CM9 Noghtlies with stock kernel
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
+1 stock kernel also works fine for me.
what video format you tried ?
anyway galaxy s is only single core. cmiiw

there is no lag fix this problem with codec not capable to play 1080p that why its lag
btw what the point of playing 1080p on 480*800 screen
Confused by the OP's question: do videos not play at all? Or are there certain codecs/bitrates that are posing a problem?
To be perfectly clear: the term "lagfix" is essentially a filesystem change from RFS to EXT4 and is only applicable for Samsung ROMs that use RFS. All AOSP-like ROMs like CyanogenMod are using proper file systems (ext4 and yaffs2) to begin with so there is no "lag" to "fix." Consider the lagfix term deprecated
720p videos in wmv format do not support h/w decoding, therefore they are very slow. With mp4 or mkv it's all fine though.
Do give dice player a shot...
Playback of 720p mkv's is fine for me on both Slim ICS 3.6 and the latest CM nightly with MXplayer/BSplayer.
But TV OUT is really bad though. 720p lags so much I only get about 2-3 fps. And lower res videos show a lot of screen tearing on the tv during scenes with a lot of movement.

+1 for this, happens to me too...
I just converted the videos -.- couldnt take it anymore.
My HD2 running on NAND ROM : [NIGHTLY][Full HWA] CyanogenMod 9 [4.0.4][Kernel: cmhtcleo/tytung]
Right now I'm using MX player, which used to play all videos perfectly on the previous ROM : NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.2a_SD__Android-2.3.7
But after installing the current ROM, videos are bit slow and when playing a video, no sounds for 3-4 seconds and it continues.
I really need an urgent solution.
Thanks in advance
Nazbir
Did you try installing the codec?
Videos are 720p? in ics we dont have yet proper video decoding drivers so you cant play hd videos

Yes I have installed codec.
I have converted those videos with a converter suggested here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660668
and now they are working fine.
But when My HD2 was on NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.2a_SD__Android-2.3.7
I didn't have to convert any videos.

Yes 720p. I hope this will be fixed in the future updates of [NIGHTLY][Full HWA] CyanogenMod 9 [4.0.4][Kernel: cmhtcleo/tytung].
You can try Mobo Player if you didn't try it yet. i am not sure, perhaps..
https://rapidshare.com/files/266168476/Mobo_Video_Player_Pro_v1.1.2.apk
So I've done a bit of research into this but can't get satisfactory results.
Has anyone achieved decent playback of hi10p content. 720p/1080p or otherwise?
MX Player supposedly works with H/W+ mode. This I have yet to see.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
cheers ^_^

To answer my own question since it might be useful to someone. So far archos player has the smoothest playback for 10bit on galaxy S4 GT-I9505. Mx player supports 10bit but does not playback 100% smooth.
I use MX and BS player on my SGY.I could not play 480p videos,no matter which player i use.
When i had bought it,i was able to play them(flv, avi and mp4) for 2-3 months.Later I tried many roms (CM7,evo x3,chobbits,creed's) but can not play
PS- Some people will try to be smartass and tell me be happy with what i have, and SGY has resolution of 640x360 so it can only play up to 360p videos.I know that, thanks.I look forward to get some help from real clever people who did,or can, make 480p videos play.
PS2- I am currently using creed's rom with stock kernel, will soon flash Merruk's!
Sgy cannot play video encoded in mp4 x264
it will play but very choppy
the only way to play them is in cm7 in mx player with hardware acceleration but as it's only test binaries it doesn't work for every video
Sgy can play comfortably avi videos in the xvid format so I suggest if there is an xvid version get that or convert
it will play 480p right?i will try soon, thanks in advance
