My HD2 running on NAND ROM : [NIGHTLY][Full HWA] CyanogenMod 9 [4.0.4][Kernel: cmhtcleo/tytung]
Right now I'm using MX player, which used to play all videos perfectly on the previous ROM : NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.2a_SD__Android-2.3.7
But after installing the current ROM, videos are bit slow and when playing a video, no sounds for 3-4 seconds and it continues.
I really need an urgent solution.
Thanks in advance
Nazbir
Did you try installing the codec?
Videos are 720p? in ics we dont have yet proper video decoding drivers so you cant play hd videos

Yes I have installed codec.
I have converted those videos with a converter suggested here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660668
and now they are working fine.
But when My HD2 was on NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.2a_SD__Android-2.3.7
I didn't have to convert any videos.

Yes 720p. I hope this will be fixed in the future updates of [NIGHTLY][Full HWA] CyanogenMod 9 [4.0.4][Kernel: cmhtcleo/tytung].
You can try Mobo Player if you didn't try it yet. i am not sure, perhaps..

All type videos even from youtube, my recording camera, sending from other fones...still slow. Currently I'm using RockPlayer.
You can use the 'Videos' instead of Rock Player. It plays every video that you converted with Handbrake.
I watch youtube video alot, using tubemate to download video, 1280x720, 640x360,
My ms2 can't play 720p video smoothly, been using all video player I can install.
My friend htc desire can play a same 720p video very smooth, but my ms2 can not, can only play 640x360 smoothly.
Is any ms2 the same or just mine?

Milestone2 is not well in 720p hardware decoding.
Mine is playing 720p very smoothly. I download clips from youtube (by keepvid btw) to my PC and then transfer them to phone. And no matter what player am I using it's smooth as hell .
I was traying some clips in 720p in mp4 format played via DLNA from my notebook, and was very smooth. You are writing about avi or mp4 movies?

cant be movies because i recently saw a documentary in 720p on my phone in flight and it was superb. no lag, and really smooth
perhaps the person who has issues is running something memory intensive in the background?
It greatly depends on what codecs are being used.

why use anything else than H264 anyway.. use Mobo Player (best video player ever, smothest playing ever and almost all formats you ever need ot play)
even plays 1080p movies with ~21FPS (1,4ghz overclocked) on my MS2..
I have the same issue on my MS2 @@
I also downloaded a 720p mp4 video via Tubemate from youtube
Playing of the video is not very smooth
especially the first 30 seconds, it really lags
After playing for a while it becomes smooth again but still may have some random lag
I have rebooted my MS2 before playing the video so as to clean up RAM, but the problem didn't solved.
The MoboPlayer have similar performance as the stock video player...do I need to download any moboplayer codec?..
Does anyone know how to solve this
*update : I am thinking, would it be the problem of sd card? what class of sd card are you guys using? Is my Toshiba 16GB C4 sd card too slow?
I have downloaded SD-Booster and set the cache size to 2048kb
By the way wich one is correct Mobo codec for M2?
I just know it is ARMv7.

Try a different player. Stock player don't have all codecs.

I recommend MoboPlayer (not Mobo Video Player). If a video doesn't work you can use Soft-Decoding.
Cool! It worked. Soft coding worked! Btw, what it is?

You can also use dice player (paid app on market), that uses hardware decoding.
With hardware decoding you can view high definition videos (HD 720p) without any jumps or dropped frames. The battery will also last much more.
Seconds on dice player... absolutely a fantastic player
I'd advice you to:
1. use Samsung 42" LED TV to play movies, you'll be surprised how fast it is;
2. Post this and any future problems in 7.1 thread....
I'm using stock 4.0.3 and Glados 2.4 and whenever I try to play a MKV video on MX player (or any other player cause I tried them all basically) ITS REALLY LAGGY!
Back on gingerbread I used to watch videos like this one and they were butter smooth..
What can I do to solve this crime?
(Needless to say I used the HW decoder when I played those videos)
THANKS!
try BS player or Dice player
I use dice no problem and BS player works great also
both were recently updated to work with 4.0.3 sounds like MX needs to be updated

I tried BSplayer now and its still laggy..
What rom do you use? Or what kernel?
You can try the recently updated build of RockPlayer. Force hardware decoding.

Still slow man.. What should I do?
Dice player...

Guys it's not a player problem nor a rom one..
I flashed 200 different ICS roms already and they're all lagging even when I use BSplayer, MX Player, DicePlayer or RockPlayer..
On gingerbread it's flawless but on ICS it keeps lagging! Any of you really tried playing 720P videos on ICS?
fine for me 4GB 720p mkv (h264)and 3gb 720 avi on stock 4.0.3 play just as smooth as in GB using diceplayer

software decode lose of quality compared to hardware decode also the H.264 and other hd codecs will not play as smooth as hardware and will run into sync issue with audio
should use dice or other one thats true hardware decode players like BS
rockplayer mobo and most other are not true hardware players they only capable of hardware decode on codecs already supported by default those players add codecs but will only play with software
dice actually adds codecs and plays with hardware support
Hmmm interesting
for me some mkv 720ps videos play fine and some don't but I guess it has something to do with the bitrate
i am planning to buy the s5 but I have read a lot of issue concerning video playback? some codecs are missing and a lot of videos do not play on the s5? is there solution?

Yup, MX Player (Pro) is the best videplayer in Play imo and can play 99% of all excisting formats or look here http://www.hdformatconverter.com/galaxy-s5-supported-format-best-video-format-for-galaxy-s5/.
how are videos playback on mx player ? software or hardware playback?
edit: and I don't want to convert my videos to play it on my phone... my old htc desire is able to play all videos formats I can imagine (except some full HD highly compressed vids)

Both, you can choose either.
so hardware video playback works for 99% of all videos you have tried?

Look here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.pro&hl=nl and an additional codec pack will be installed if need be. Off course i didn`t try 99% of all formats. i haven`t seen a format i use that cannot be played however.
Mxplayer is nice but the ads suck. And there's no way I'm paying for a pro version when there are free and opensource alternatives. Switched to VLC and now I can watch pirated movies with no ads for free :good:

Not if you buy the Pro version and we don`t talk about warez or cracks on XDA
i was asking about hardware playback as software playback i think uses more cpu/hence more battery. If it's hardware playback then that's fine! I am using mx player on my htc desire anyway and i am used to it.
edit: i was afraid that other third party video players were not able to play on the s5 because of the codecs missing
