Try a different player. Stock player don't have all codecs.

I recommend MoboPlayer (not Mobo Video Player). If a video doesn't work you can use Soft-Decoding.

Cool! It worked. Soft coding worked! Btw, what it is?

You can also use dice player (paid app on market), that uses hardware decoding.
With hardware decoding you can view high definition videos (HD 720p) without any jumps or dropped frames. The battery will also last much more.

Seconds on dice player... absolutely a fantastic player

I'd advice you to:
1. use Samsung 42" LED TV to play movies, you'll be surprised how fast it is;
2. Post this and any future problems in 7.1 thread....

Video Player ?

Is there a good video player that everyone is using? I can't play .avi videos on this. I use mplayer on my HD2 but if I install it on here the ratio is soo small. Any advice?
I'm using qqplayer.
moboplayer si ont too bad also
They are on the Market
I forgot about Plex. If you're trying to play external media on some other device, Plex will work quite nicely.
Still trying out video players. Will update you soon.
i use vplayer
I've actually been using Rock player. You can get the optimized version for Tegra 2 here:
http://rockplayer.freecoder.org/index_en.html
anyone got the hardware decoder working on any player?
I'm using Mobo. I tried Rock player, but the software decoding made the video all jumpy. Not having that problem with mobo

Try using mobo player if you want to play .avi files.

I too find this the most useful one out there. Plays almost everything.
I'm using Vitalplayer. Plays avi mpg and mp4. Thats what I have tried and I'm unsure whats in the containers but it plays it well I think. The avi-file is a 720p file and it looked good with no sync-problems. The mpg is a recording made with Mythtv with highest quality. Flawless playback.
I use Mobo by default but there are times Rock does a better job.

Just tried rockplayer. It made me happy in ways I did not believe were possible.
so after playing with a few of them I think I have settled on mobo player. Its free in the market and seems to work quiet well.
mobo rocks lol...pun intended. both update very often.
yea but is mobo or any other player playing without saving the video first? like you open a email and click preview....

it depends on browser...default browser let u view immediately asking u which video player to stream. opera will save auto. unless you press n hold the link to save it on the default browser.

Anyway to play .avi video files?

I have a bunch of videos in the .avi format and I haven't had any luck playing them on my tablet. I downloaded the MoboPlayer I keep hearing about but it just sits on a black screen and never plays. Anyone know what would work with this format?
You could try your luck with Vplayer or RockPlayer. Works great for me
I found Soul Player and that works pretty good. I'll check the ones you mentioned and see how they go as well, and if they run any better.
And the BOMB, MX Video player!
You are all crazy. Moboplayer is the bomb.

MX player all the way, at least, IMHO.
Mobo player needs the codec pack installed to work.
Search market for Moboplayer Code and install the proper code pack for your hardware.

ARMV7

MX Player also has the ARMV7 codec set as well.
The difference would be MX Player is ad-suuport where as Mobo Player is free...
I've had good luck with Rockplayer. For some reason I can't get any sound when using Mobo.

Have mobo and tried mx. In the brief time to test, I love it. Love the control, thanks for tip. Mobo gone now.

AVI is not a format, it's a container that can contain many different kinds of "format", or rather, encoding methods of video. Whether your tablet can play them depends entirely on how they're encoded.
I used to use mobo player, but right after 3.1 update the built in clear.fi player worked for avi. is that just me?

Best video player

I know, this question sucks, but I'm concerned about hardware decoding capabilities.
I was using Rock Player with my old phone, now on Vibrant it can just do software decoding, which I think is less battery-efficient.
Anything better?
Thanks
The Vibrant media player, maybe? Since that one was coded to work with the phone's hardware...
Or you can just deal with crappy battery life and move on, you know...
I cannot switch the stock media player to landscape mode (I don't know if it's just me...), and I prefer a folder visualization mode more than a whole list of all my videos.
Furthermore, I feel like it cannot decode xvid-coded files.

Umm... The GalaxyS has the most hardware codec support of any of the Android phones. I can play mkv, xvid, divx, using the default video player...
Hell, that's half the reason I still own this phone.
What ROM are you using? The only ROMs which support the extensive hardware decoding for the SGS are TouchWiz roms (ie not CM7 or MIUI)
Uhm, so it may be CM7 video player's fault, because if I open it I can see my old 3gp videos, but not my xvid .avi files (which are handled well by Rock Player via software decoding).
Moboplayer is my choice when I'm not on touchwiz.

Thanks I'll give it a try and will let you know.
Try diceplayer
Diceplayer take advantage of your hw video decoder
Even you have cm7 roms, you can play 720p h.264 high mkv with dts/flac audio.
Sounds great, I'll try both
Second vote for moboplayer. Ignore everything else
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I tried both and I eventually preferred DicePlayer interface, anyway they're both great choices because they support HW decoding on CM7 roms.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Change of mind......DicePlayer works great too
I tried VPlayer too (it shouldn't change much from Premium version), and it looses a/v sync if I move the seek bar... any hints?
MoboPlayer doesn't offer folder visualization and shows me all the videos in a list, while I prefer separated folders for separated videos.

yes it does. phone battery dead or i would tell you where but when you touch the screen one of the "buttons" changes to a different view type.
I get just two visualizations here: grid and list.
In both cases, the videos aren't separated in their respective folders
Try Mobo Player. It plays all formats (even with CM7 or MIUI).

Try diceplayer. it can use hw accelerated video player( even with CM7/MIUI )
Mobo can not use hw acceleration when playing non-supported format like MKV,MOV,AVI.
Mobo run at 800-1000Mhz to playing 480p H.264 AVI.
but Dice run at 400Mhz. ( Galaxy S )
Which media player will give smooth output to 1080p .mp4 files? (Ripped from youtube)
I have tried QQ and Rockplayer, FPS is like 2 and Default player wont even open the file saying its not supported.
Thanks!

Yep, dice seems to be the best choice because it also shows different files in different folders.
Too bad the trial is gonna expire here...

Tried the dice player. Didn't liked it, it lags a lot for me.

[Q] best video player

Can anyone recommend a good video player that will play videos without jerking, without stopping and with the recorded sound. Doesn't have to be a freebie, main requirement is quality of playback on A500 v3.2.
Thanks
dice player + plugin for tegra2 and every movie works like a charm.

It really depends. There is NO video player that can play non-baseline 1080p video without stutter, so if you're hoping for such you're out of luck. But for almost all else Dice Player or MX Player should work just peachy.
I use rock player.

Dice player pro works excellently at playing HD movies. MX Player is also a great choice and free.
mx player is the business. Does the job very smoothly.
Have used everything out there except dice and the best one I have found was MX Player. Rock player, mobo player, built in one, and a couple other just couldn't cut it.
MX Player was the only one I could find that would play a 720p mkv without stuttering. I actually searched for a paid version of the app it was so good. They did recently add ads into the free version, but I was more than happy to pay for PRO.

I recommend MX Player. The latest version can do hardware video and software audio at the same time, so AC3 channels can have sound now.
I have tried everything and I think Dice is the best.
It has full Tegra 2 H/W support.
I use MoboPlayer, but I honestly haven't thrown any 1080p content at it yet, so I don't know how well it handles that.

Since your screen isn't capable of playing 1080p content natively, that's not an issue.
haven't tried dice but mx is the best free one by far, however I keep mobo on my tablet because you can completely dim the screen while using HDMI, thus saving some battery.

I'm using Dice Player. It seems to work with HW acceleration.
I've always used MX player, but i'm hoping to see good things from VLC for android once it comes out of beta.
I also use MX Player. If the video or sound isn't working, switch between the H/W and S/W decoding modes. I haven't run into any problems yet.
MX
MX Player here as well. It's on all of my devices. MX for video and Mixzing or Ubermusic for tunes.
BSPlayer all the way. The best out there. Can play even my baddest, biggest 720p mkv videos from a mounted cifs share on my NAS over the network, absolutely smoothly. And hides the softkeys. Well, most times

I use BSPlayer too and also stream from a networked hard drive flawlessly. I also like the fact that when I play a new movie, it would automatically search, suggest a list of and download subtitle files for me if I don't already have one. :good:
I have a 6.5 GB 720p mkv file. Here's my experience on the Nexus 7:
Dice Player: Surprisingly doesn't recognize it. It used to play everything. Oh well...
VLC player: Crashes.
Real Player: Cannot recognize it.
BSPlayer: Plays is flawlessly, except the audio is a bit on the low side. Not sure I'd hear it with headphones on a plane.
MX player: No audio.
I hope that helps. BS Player is what I'll be using from here on till someone has another suggestion that works.
