[MINI REVIEW] Xperia x8 - XPERIA X8 General

This thread has been created to review the Xperia x8 device. As I say in all my reviews, although there may be other threads reviewing the device, I think it is valid that I give tips based on my experience. This is a Mini guide which means that I will only highlight key information about the phone.
Suggestions are like gold to me and I just want to make my service better. All reasonable comments are welcome. Please PM me if you have any urgent problems. I am sorry if my service is uninvited. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Xperia x8 burst into stores around September 2010 worldwide. After using the phone for nearly a year, I can confirm that it is a great phone for both advanced android users and basic ones. I hope to elaborate on the ultimate phone formula used in the device. I will cover a few specific areas.
The device is renowned for its 3G capabilities was developed by the late Sony Ericsson shipped with the Android 1.6 architecture and officially upgradable to the newer 2.1 version. XDA has enabled many ways of surpassing this firmware limit and expanding your experience.
Physical Hardware
You can probably guess that the phone will not have the latest hardware if it was created two years ago and this is why I thought I would highlight the now weakest point first.
The phone has a 76 mm powerfully capacitive touch screen LCD. It has a small yet firm resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. On the back of the device is a 3.2 megapixel camera with fixed focus and no flash and there is no front facing camera. Photos can be geotagged although this feature is not necessarily useful. Fortunately camera can be accessed using the touchscreen menu, or via the dedicated camera button on the side of the phone. The Xperia X8 uses a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, as well as 3-axis accelerometers and built-in Global Positioning System. It also has a an ambient light sensor and a digital compass. The Xperia also sports a 1200mAh which was quite an improvement to its predecessor the x10 mini.
Although not initially available, Multi-touch support was also added to several aftermarket firmware versions (ROMS) cough* nAa* cough MiniCM9 cough* .
Like nearly every device, in its day, the x8 attracted many people simply because of mid-range cost effectivity
Physical Appearance
The Xperia line of mobile phones has always amazed critics with its design being second to none. This fact is what led many to believe the next Nexus phone/s will be designed by the same art team. The phone has a curved back with quite a boxed like front. Combining the generic phone look with a rather futuristic design gives the cellular device an original overall look. On purchasing the phone you are provided with two different coloured backs (varies depending on carrier and country).
User Friendliness
As mentioned previously, the mobile comes shipped with android 1.6 upgradable to 2.1. I can only comment on the 2.1 software seeing as this is the only one I have used.
Sony Ericson paid large amounts of attention to detail and although many users are against developers overhauling android, I believe this was a necessary step as the stock firmware runs flawlessly on the device and SE adds many feature that will make tasks which many believe common easier. I did feel that this generation of phones marked the death of Pay as you Go as many features are internet reliant and internet is impossible on P&G. In addition to this, the raw support for the phone gives advanced users satisfaction too. Not only does XDA support customization but SE does too! More phone developers should take a leaf out of Sony Ericson's book and offer support like they do.
Cost Efficiency
Nowadays, the price of android products seems to depreciate considerably faster than other rivals. This is to be expected seeing as the mobile phone market itself is considerably saturated and with more android variants entering each day cost/unit depreciation will be far greater than the iPhone branding. The phone has become a mid range low cost phone. I would say for a price as low as £80 in the UK, nearly all users will be appeased. The phone teaches users who were not particularly advanced, many things about android. Something the spoon feeding of iOS will never do.
Conclusion
The Xperia x8 is a great low cost phone for beginners to android as well as advanced users. The hardware is acceptable however people will become thirsty for more in this current day and age. Stunning visuals means that you will not be embarrassed in front of your friends and firmware is never an issue. Pay as you go may have been abandoned for the time being but seems to be getting adopted by Google with their latest jelly bean. With the Sony Ericson department no closed, phones like this just won't be produced anymore. Sony are still finding their feet but I think they are going in the HTC direction producing too many phones at once. If phone manufacturers worked upon the fundamentals like SE did, we would have the new breed of ultimate phones.
RATING: I give this phone a 7 jelly beans out of 10. I would nominate this phone as LCTOTY. (Low cost thing of the year) Actually it is a tie between this and toilet paper. :cyclops:
Thankyou for reading my review.
NOTE: Sometimes I find myself on XDA in the early hours of the morning providing the best possible. I sometimes do not pay attention and will get angry quickly. I never mean any disrespect to anyone. If I do cross the line I am sorry in advance. Please PM me and bring my comment to my attention. I will issue an apology ASAP. Even though many advanced XDA users have disappointed me I will always offer XDA the best. I am always trying to be as nice as possible regardless of what people do to anger me so feel free to ask for help with anything.

Special Thanks to my good friend KidCarter93. Structural duplication rights are shared with him.
Special Thanks also to mf2112 for all his support.
Special Mention to IAmNice, lucastan96, SpyderX and RohinZaraki. Without them the x8 community would be a darker place.

Lol. Nice review. Couldn't have said it better myself. You're on a roll my man.

Nice review, you sure have a way with words but noo way was the x8 the S3 of its day. It was a low-mid spec phone even then. The S1 was the S3 of its day.

Hello, beautiful. Danish phone site Mobil has uncovered "internal documents" on what appears to be Sony Ericsson's upcoming Android-based handset, an XPERIA number codenamed Rachael. Under the hood is a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, HSPA and an 8 megapixel camera. It's unclear how big the touchscreen is, and other details are scarce -- there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, so that's nice, but unless we're severely misguided, there doesn't seem to be a slide-out keyboard tucked away inside this thin chassis.

the whole reason I got the X1 was for the sliding keyboard, However this looks clean and smart and would be fast,
Im sure i could be tempted by this
the pic looks amazingly like an HTC product picture...
does anyone know who could be building this for sony..?
i thought they weren't working with HTC anymore... at least for the winmo x2?
confusion.. damnit!
i don't care if sony takes forever to get a phone out. i can live with that. i just wish they'd quit beatin around the bush and give us some sort of confirmation about SOMETHING!
the rumor mill is a joke.. i want an official statement... so much to get excited for something and then it's not even real... ahh the agony!
p.s. if this does come out with android. mayb all you folks who want android on x1 will have your dream come true...
at least it gives the amazing chef's something more to play around with
killerskincanoe dont think about beating around the bush, the number one problem with the x1 is that Sony Ericsson announced it long time before the release date, waiting too long on a product builds anticipation yes but after a while you get tired waiting, especially seeing more candy floating around...seems as tho only apple and htc really get it right everytime

this is true. but to be honest. i waited that whole time. just like a lot of other people on this site did. i still bought the phone. the first week it was available in the US. i'm not Un-happy with the phone. but i'm certainly not as happy as id like to be for the chunk of change i shelled out. what i'm saying is. we got what we payed for. in the end i don't want to save up for something that may or may not have this specification or that specification or this camera or that touch screen. i just want to go to an official statement saying "hey, this is what we are putting out.... sometime this decade"

I think it's right to remember that the X1 is also SE's current premium phone that is still selling. Therefore to announce a successor too early will cannibalise some of it's sales.
i get what you guys are saying, but alot of my friends here in barbados were waiting on the xperia to be released and i was the only person out the bunch to buy it, everyone else went ahead and bought either the diamond pro or the iphone but i waited even tho i decided to buy it later since i saw the price dropping every friday on phonesourceusa, and i am sure that more people got tired too as i have seen this on many blogs, you gotta admit it, the period was too long, i guess this is why there are no official announcements on the next xperia(s), the xperia oficial blog stated that no announcement regarding the next xperia will be made until later in the year
see here http://xperiancers.com/2009/06/16/no-x2-launch-on-the-17th-sorry/

yes i read that a while back. and i'm glad to see it. what i don't like is these nice tantalizing shots of phones that "may never be".. they just gets my hopes up even higher for the let downs of the actual device that is to be the xperia 2. im sure sony will improve vastly on their first try. and i agree that announcing anything now will totally ruin any more sales of the xperia x1...
as much as i like reading about new phones i think they should all be filed under 'concept art' not "leaked shots" until it's made official by a SE employee!
p.s. anyone with decent photoshop skill could do it... i mean take a look at http://www.concept-phones.com/ some great work there too
This would really piss me off if the X2 stays ugly with its puny little 528mhz MSM cpu and the android device gets the 1ghz Snapdragon and sexy looks. What is Android going to do with 1ghz? X2 better have snapdragon.
No keyboard =no deal for me
Otherwise we would have portedd WinMo over it

I agree if I Snap Dragon will finally make Windows Mobile faster than the iPhone 3GS.
Well, if it's cheaper since it uses Android then it's worth checking out.
Otherwise, it's better to wait for sometime before you upgrade from x1 or something. That is if you're a big SE fan. It looks neat though.... and wow most phones are really adapting to the iphone trend especially the slick design and HD touch screen.
i am sold for a x2-3-4-5 what ever it is ,just must have xda support, keyboard ,1 ghz cpu ,5 0r 8 mpx camera nuff said

Please, no apple whoring in THIS forum. Thank you. There is no iPhone trend..... iPhone were NOT the first touch screen phones. They were NOT the first phones without keyboards. Apple didn't invent touch screens, multitouch or anything else for that matter.
iPhones are bulky bricks with outdated hardware. There were and are hundreds of better looking devices out there......

Let's not get it twisted though. Apple was the first to package all of that into a usable package AND successfully bring it to the mass market. To deny that FACT is just biased.

1) Olrelsi, a trend is something that people suddenly start doing in common
a) iPhone trends:
i) Corporations are trying to create a finger friendly interface like iPhone
ii) Capacitive touch screens have become the desired standard
iii) Games and speedy interface
iv) Owning an iPhone is in itself a trend because of the apple's promotion
v) The fact that people are becoming stupider and need an operating
system that requires less amounts of learning and the more amounts
of intuitiveness is a trend. This is a sign that society will become
stupider and careless about technology.
2) Ov3rkill, the iPhone does not have an HD touch screen compared to Xperia and Touch HD.

I think Apple was the first to implement multitouch in their phones. And who said that they invented touch screens? We had that in ATMs before iPhone even existed.

No phone will ever be a brick until they break. And only a brick can actually be a brick.
iPhone is not bulky, it is thinner than the Xperia. The hardware isn't outdated. The iPhone processor was 400 when it came out and most phones had 400 MHzs during that time. Now most phones have 600 MHz processors and so does the iPhone 3GS.

Xperia Arc is not your regular Android Phone

If your main goal in buying an android phone is modding and you have an oblivious ambition of becoming a dev, you might consider other brands such as HTC and Samsung.
The Arc comes with the same bootloader Xperia X10 does so say goodbye on your hopes modding the firmware.
The Arc are for people who doesn't mind being stuck with the same Android version for a long time or doesn't care of any android updates at all (Believe me those people exists!). The Exmor R and Mobile Bravia Engine are very good additions on the Arc, though as for the video reviews, it still does not match the Super AMOLED (Samsung) or the Clear Black Display (Nokia) of other phone brands.
The specs are also no that good compared on other flagship phones.
HTC Desire HD has 768 MB of RAM
Samsung Galaxy S has the 1 GHz Hummingbird Proc and Super AMOLED Display
LG have a new phone featuring a dual core processor
Its the dawn of dual core phones.
Think twice before buying this phone. If you're fine being stuck with Gingerbread and loves taking pictures (SE has the best camera for phones) and watching movies (I think this is the essence of the Mobile Bravia Engine) then this is the best phone for you.
Please be reminded that SE didn't force you to buy this phone so don't start another WORLD WAR when SE announced its early End Of Life.
wow..... the next "don't by the arc"-SE-Hater comment....
dude everyone will buy what fits best to his usecases....
i will buy the arc because it has everything what i want and need and the others don't do or are looking crappy.... the X10 was fine for me till now and the arc will be better for me soon....

Are u suggesting that the bootloader will not be locked on Arc like X10 ?
I won't be saying anything regarding the arc's software since I don't have a unit with me yet. It's just funny how he derives that arc owners will be stuck with the same android version for a long time. The rest is just his derivation of what he THINKS but oh well, can't stop any opinions running around here.
if you want a camera, buy a camera!
based on the x10.. support ended with one update to éclair and so.. no Flash player support but hey the camera makes up for this? wtf... some people logic just seems so relevant.
If you want a camera, buy one. It's a phone.. designed for updates and handling newest releases and mods, but SE don't really want anyone to mods anything.. go use a phonebox you twazzocks.
I love these kind of topics. It's so funny to see how people want to prove their point, while nobody asks for it... Won't it be much easier to just let people decide on their own which phone they buy, its not they are spending your money, are they?

Is it just me or apart from looks does the Neo seem like a better phone? same Bravia Screen.. the same 8Mp emor (or whatever) camera, same 1Ghz processor (newer generation than the X10) and it includes a front facing camera (it will also no doubt be cheaper than the Arc... )
If I was going to buy another SE (highly doubtful) I would go for the Neo over the Arc.

YMMD - guess what: I am most probably one of those.
And once we are at confessions: I am still happily using my Xperia X1 (though no longer with original firmware)
As long as the device does what I expect it to do I don't feel a need for frequent updates - and believe me, there's more people like me out there.
Anyway, thanks for the warning, it got noticed.

The arc has already been seen running android 2.4 at ces i think it was, and that was before 2.4 was even announced.
Here's a thing.... The OP doesn't know a single thing about how SE will maintain the new range... All he knows is what they did with X10..
But they've openly admitted that they screwed that up by having a crappy intregration strategy for their UI..
The new phones have been designed differently, to avoid that problem (this is stated by SE)..
SE also say that they will upgrade the OS when it comes along.
and as many people have already said.. if the phone works well and does what people want it to do.. they won't really care about future OS upgrades..
and Google have also said that they won't be releasing OS revisions every second day, like they did for the first couple of years.. the OS is much more mature now.. so it doesn't need so much "fixing".
/endsrant
[EDIT : and yes.. I am getting an Arc]
OK, so...I just got my hands on a unit, not the arc, but a neo, all I can say is it is BLAZING fast. You guys remember the pinch zoom on the homescreen to pull up all the widgets and SO MANY of you said, it sucks because it lags...welp, I'm here to tell you that it's now fast, and NEARLY lag free. I noticed that many of the lags comes from widgets pulling information from the internet, such as Youtube, Market, etc. These widgets will cause a slight lag to retrieve info, but other than that, it's BLAZING fast I might post a video this weekend showing it, but that's it, cuz my unit is still a a proto and is missing some of the main key-selling hardware
Played with the Arc tonight.

Why .. do the first 2 look kinda red-ish ? As a boy it looks aweful to me ... good for girls I guess ..
BTW it reminds me of the Sony Walkman A 845 which is awesome

My thoughts on the Arc and why im going to keep it (read if you want!)

Hello all.
Having owned an X10 for just short of a year I've lived through S.E's initial step in to the smart phone arena, and while they made a lot of mistakes with the X10 they have clearly learned their lesson. Many die hard S.E fans said they were going to jump ship when it came time to purchasing a new phone, myself included, however, having owned my Arc for nearly two weeks now I'm so so glad I stuck with them!
No matter what phone you buy there is always going to be something about it that you don't like, the only thing for me, or what I don't like the most should I say in regards to the Arc is their choice of rear casing, it can be a tad slippery at times so would have preferred to have the same black rubbery casing as on the X10, which I could sit nicely on the slant of the arm on the couch but the Arc just slides down so just sit it at the side of me of me now.
Sure a default Android U.I would be perfect but having now rooted and changed most of it I like my phone even more. There's a few more little niggles such as the bootup time but I'm sure that will be resolved at some point just like a few issues with the X10 were. It's easy to say when you buy a phone it shouldn't come with any issues, unfortunately they do, whether you go with S.E, Samsung or HTC, go browse the forums of any phone on XDA and you'll see that some people are happy with their phones and some aren't, "you can't please all of the people all of the time"!
I recall a user on AndroidForums who had had their X10 replaced a good few times, at least 3 or 4 but were never happy, always finding some sort of fault with the phone and soon became apparent that the said user would have been better suited with a Nokia 7210 or similar phone because their Smart Phone was clearly too smart for them. I'm not saying you need to be a technophile to be able to use a smart phone nor should you have to be for it work as intended, but some people are always going to have issues for whatever reason.
Some people are unlucky and receive a dodgy handset whether it's software or hardware based so there isn't a great deal you can do on such occasions, but that doesn't mean everyone is going to suffer the same issues one person might be having.
To sum up, I love my Arc, current Andoid OS, fast and looks the business, as I've already stated I'm so glad I decided to stick with S.E because imo they've made up for the mistakes they made with the X10.
This is something I would like to see .. Good work bud
+1

No matter what phone you buy there is always going to be something about it that you don't like, the only thing for me, or what I don't like the most should I say in regards to the Arc is their choice of rear casing, it can be a tad slippery at times so would have preferred to have the same black rubbery casing as on the X10, which I could sit nicely on the slant of the arm on the couch but the Arc just slides down so just sit it at the side of me of me now.

It's technophile... technophobe is someone who's scared of technology.. (like my wife !)..
Good thread through.. Androids biggest perform is also its biggest success.. Openness. It allows the knowledgeable to do some seriously impressive things with their phones.. But it also lets the idiots have a go as well..then when they knacker their phone they blame everyone else..
Sent from The arc using XDA premium..
This time last night I was trying to decide whether to buy an Arc or go for something else. After reading the 'other' thread, I had some real concerns about how good the Arc really was. After ALOT more reading tons & tons of threads/reviews I decided to bite the bullet and get an Arc.
To be honest I really can't see what people are complaining about? I think this thing is fantastic! I've spent all day on it and can't see wtf the fuss is about. Battery life is good, it's fast and smooth and looks pretty f**king cool.
Granted I've only played with it for 10 hours but at this stage the biggest problem I've found is getting used to how sensitive the touch screen is although that's more my fault as I'm not exactly petite and gentle. Also, the back was quite slippery but I've put this skin on and it cleared that problem up....

+1! Like people who root their phones then ask questions like "now what", if you don't know what something is before doing it, then you don't need to and should shouldn't do it in the first place, imo.

The arc for me is definitely one to miss. You say the arc is fast. That's because your compairing it with your experience of the x10 with older hardware and dated software. Pit the arc against the newer 2011 phones and you'll find its quite slow in comparison. It is to the x10 what windows 7 was to vista (even then I feel I am being a bit harsh to windows 7). It's a polished up version and as such, I see absolutely no reason upgrading from the x10 to it. With gingerbread coming to the x10 soon, I'll see my contract through and hope SE come up with a truly worthy competitor. If they fail to wake up from their slumber by then, the GS3 will most likely be the choice (iphone rip off or not).

Meh... All I can say is that the Arc is a POS phone.
Most people who purchase the Arc after owning the X10 are X10 apologists.
I am enjoying my Desire HD. However I will not be upgrading to the Sensation...
If SE has something decent up its sleeves and it comes up in time...

Hey guys.
I am a happy owner of the silver arc for 3 days now. I am very satisfied with it, battery on the first charge lasted almost 24 hours - of course somewhat light usage.
I only had to insert a piece of paper under the battery cover to eliminate squeaks.
I noticed you had X10 before. My gf is very impressed with arc and because of the lower price of the X10, she is considering buying it. Can you tell me how much better is the battery on the arc, comparing to the X10?
Thanks.

It largly depend on how you use your phone and ofcourse the android implementation on your device.
Both x10 and arc just got 2.1.B and 2.3.3 update which many claim has increased the battery life.
Also, display is most important factor which drains battery.
Bottomline x10 will have tiny winy bit advantage over arc when 2.3. 3 comes to x10. Both have 1500mA battery.
So, imo, let handling, look, camera be the deciding factors.
I understand, but I believe that the screen on the arc should be more energy efficient. Check the presentation form the xperia acro launch in Japan:
http://www.talkandroid.com/37350-sony-ericsson-xperia-acro-presentation-images-leaked/gpad7/
And we should not forget the cpu technology (45 nm vs. 65nm).
I still believe that if you use both devices exactly the same, the arc should last longer. Just my thought.

That is something new i got to learn. Thanks =)

See you guys around

Most of you hadn't even noticed that I was in this forum. I've been around for 6 months more or less. When I first got here I didn't even know what rooting was and I ended up being an addicted to Wolfbreak's updates.
I renewed my plan today and got a LG Optimus Black for free and I'm gonna give it a try. Out of the box it looks more responsive and snappier the my beloved x10 so I'm gonna try and root it, but I'll keep an eye on this forum waiting for the gingerbread update and the successive custom roms.
I just wanted to thank all the devs here, WB, Z, goro, Ricardo and all of them, you guys have really given life to an forsaken device and it was a lot of fun and learning, I really appreciate the effort you make.
Thank you guys and take care
Here i have made you a cake.

I know I haven't really done much for this community, but still I'm gonna hijack this thread to bid my farewell too. It's been a fun, and certainly a thrilling first experience with Android, or any smartphone for that matter. I've been around since we first gained root access, created a huge thread in anticipation for 2.1, saw the first custom roms, demanded multitouch, gained multitouch, demanded Android Gingerbread, gained a promise for update to Gingerbread, achieved kernel bypass and more. So, I've seen the whole lifecycle of our X10, yet I'm leaving just when it's going to get a new breath of life. I'll probably be lurking around this part of the XDA too though, since I'm donating my X10 to my mom after I receive my SGSII.
Thanks to zdzihu, jerpelea, Wolfbreak, achotjan, DooMLoRD, erickwill, My_Immortal and everyone else whose actions and efforts have made this phone better than it was set out to be. I love you all and hope to see you guys again sometime. I hope the community is as good in the other camp as it was here in it's prime.

I'll probably add my experiences to DooMLord's thread tomorrow or in the weekend. I might even make a comparison video if I have time.
Its been a few days with the Optimus Black now. First thing you notice s the screen. I read reviews saying that it is a middle point between a normal LCD screen and the retina display but I compared it yesterday for quite a few minutes with it and I really think they are closer. Compared it yesterday with x10's screen and there's no comparison. The phone is responsive and I have seen little to no lag so far. I cannot talk about the LG optimus interface that much cause I jumped to the launcher pro plus right away. I'm loving the front facing camera.
Yesterday comparison with our beloved x10 made me have even more respect for our devs.... My x10 with Wolf's TW 8.1 and goro's custom kernel feels almost as snappy as the Optimus Black, the screen does make a big difference though.
Quadrant score with the Black: 1300-1450. Rooted and with blootware deleted. The phone is barely new so the dev section is still in diapers, hope it gets better.
I already posted this into DooMLord's thread, but since I promised I'll post this here too:
Okay, it's my turn to give some first impressions:
Holy shiet it's thin! A lot thinner than I expected it to be, considering that I thought the X10 was thin already. Also, holy shiet the screen! Simply put, it's gorgeus. The X10's screen just holds no candle to it.
The second thing that hit me was that it's LAG FREE. Like, completely, utterly lag free. When you're used to your phone lagging in every single operation from scrolling down the menus to watching a video, this feels almost unreal. Only thing I don't like at the moment is the icon style Samsung opted to use. It looks cheap and stuff. This phone coupled with the UI style from Sony would be _awesome_.
The all-plastic build doesn't bother me since the X10 is all-plastic too. Also I really like how light it is, especially compared to the X10, and the texture they used in the back cover provides nice grip.
These are of course first impressions, and to be fair I was extremely frustrated by my X10 which gives the SGSII an unfair bias. I'll probably do a more thorough "review" after I've gotten used to the device and probably after the X10 has received it's gingerbread treating just to be fair.
Without root and all the stock apps installed I got 3340 from Quadrant Standard.

The gpu in the arc is the adreno 205 the x10 uses the adreno 200.
I got rid of my lags on my x10 long ago.
But the sgs has that mali400 GPU.. hmmm.
but i'm personally awaiting the tegra2 based unit.

What I've noticed is that the term "lag" is completely subjective. I used my X10 with the latest custom kernel and it still didn't feel as fluid as I would've hoped it to feel. A lot better than without it for sure though. But the point is, what's lagless to you might be laggy to me and vise versa.
The Exynos chipset is better than the Tegra 2 in overall performance, but I believe that the Mali GPU has some flaws like the forced bit depth etc. so if you're really into gaming then go for the Tegra 2 version.

Galaxy note reaching its end of life.

Its been a great phone and it was my first android phone. I loved it so much and is still loving it. But despite all my support to android. I have realized in the last two years that due to many OEMs and multi rage of android phones. The vendors are unable to update them regularly. Each OEM is just busy making new phones and they never focus on timely updates and keep the devices deprived from their functionality.
In the past I was not too supportive to most custom rom devs but it was only because of the stability issues. But now i have realized that it was they who actually did their best to make the devices as updated as possible.

Well, that's true, with a few minor modifications. The S1 isn't using an Exynos 4 SoC, but a Hummingbird (Exynos 3) which is a friendlier SoC to work with (that I've read at least), so the S1 developers haven't had the hair pulling experience with that one, like the devs have had here. The Note is still powerful for what it is, but that doesn't mean squat when it's not even possible to get everything working right. The Note is a dog with two broken legs. It walks, but it can't run like it should do.
I'm leaving the Note on Monday for the Z Ultra (yey!), and it'll be exciting to have a brand new, just released device again! So see you, suckaz! Okay, I'm joking. I'll still hang around here for a little while.

Well eaven if all devs move to other phones we still have the guys from CM, Slimbean, HellyBean and others like them who do not develop for the note just because they have the phone, they usually buy new phones but keep older ones for development aswell, so Note users are safe, it's one of the best dual-core around
I wonder if this guy is really this braindead or if it is just another google translate fail. Shall we vote?

its not dead it will reach end of support from Sammy. Its the lifecycle of phones, every quarter new gimmick, to sustain that pace, support lifecycles are shortened.
Yes the product will run for a couple of years longer. Which is why opening it up for communities from the start to carry the estafette past company support is vital. lol.
glad CM is making moves to do just that
I love this Note (thx Asylum) and could happily go another year on it.

that's all it really boils down to one Oneupmanship, In my eyes there is not a phone to top the galaxy Note 1... it run just the way it was designed when new, you can change the rom's easy, loads of software, great people here who can help when in trouble... what more can one ask.
If you want speed then don't install crap filled with bloat wear,READ what is the best Rom's to use & I mean READ.
Just because your friends are getting the all dancing and singing new phone as seen on TV, don't mean you need the same one...
THINK for your self....... its still a PHONE in the end.:fingers-crossed:

Ya ur right crying because this phone deserved really more. Ensing it at this phase with a laggy stock rom will not be a justice to it. It can go a long way, but without official support it will slowly die. So its good to cry for what u love. I am not a new texh geek like u. I have been using this device for the last 2 years and like my older devices i have emotional stuff with it. So even if i switched, it will be with me

Im gonna stay with the note 1. I dont game on the phone, i have an xbox for that. I work in a phone shop and I can state personally that the Note 1 is still a decent phone. I say that using CM10.2 which really gets the most out of it but the latest TW Rom's aren't bad either.
Feature wise the Note does the main things that everything else does to a good level, not like a Galaxy Ace. If you got the new Note everything is a little bit faster and better, but apart from the IR blaster (small addition) there isn't many outstanding new features that differentiate it from its original - for example something like a built in projector

Speed is open to interpretation. On paper the S600 on the HTC one or S4 in the shop are probably 4x faster (benchmarks) but in reality outside of gaming they load Facebook in 0.5 second compared to the Note's 2 second. No one is going to die because of that 1.5 seconds. Other apps on the Note load in near identical times so it's all down to whether you want the new technology rather than 'need'
