I am planning on purchasing an unlocked Telstra model for use on AT&T. I am purchasing this model due to the 3g frequency needed for AT&T being on this model. I am just curious if the differences for this model are the same as the differences for the Europe version (Like some of the ram missing). Does it have an unlocked bootloader and can you flash all of the same roms that you could for the other versions. Is the compatability the same?
To make my question easier can a very nice person help a noob out and list all the differences between tmobile and telstra hd2 models?

difference 1
tmous has 576 meg ram when stock, telstra hs 448 (unlockable to 576 with correct rom/spl/radio/(if using android you can ignore this difference, all phones, tmous, regular and telstra, show around 420meg ram when running under android.
difference 2
tmous has 1gb internal rom, regular and telstra have 512meg
all othert differences are nothing, (tmous says 't mobile ' under earpiece and has coloured hardkeys)

Thanks, and the only way to unlock the ram is with magldr right?
depends what you want to run, yes magldr will do it for android / wp7, , if you want to run winmo 6.5 with teh unlocked ram then you need a rom thaht has teh hack included, along with a 2.x spl, and a x.x.50 radio.
Dont worry about the ram unlock, it really REALLY makes no difference, and in fact the only place there IS a difference between tmous and regular is under winmo 6.5, since in all other scenarios the tmous and regular both show the same ram, , , 420 meg ram in teh case of android.

I should be able to flash any radio and not lose the 850 3g att band right..... Im thinking about flashing the newest one because people say it has improved signal and battery
yea the bands are hardware fixed, they cannot be changed no matter what you do.

Do you know if the newest radio has any battery or signal issues? There is not much feedback on the telstra forum because most people don't want to update there radio.
Also some sites claim the tmous version is taller and fatter too is this true?
Yea tmous is bigger.
Radios-do some reading and youll diacover that a great radio for me may be terrible for you sat right next to each other. Most people havesettled on 2.(10/11/14/15).50 radios.
My advice - flash 2.15.50 and forget about it untill it becomes a problem.

I've read around, as I am considering buying the HD2 very very soon (either I buy the HTC HD2 in the next month when I will be in the US or wait for a friend to go there someday, who knows when, to buy the T-Mobile....) My doubt is of course because of the small (not so small?) differences between the two. I posted this on another thread but got no luck, so I hope to be more noticed here...
I would like to summarize my options and clear up some doubts with the generous posters here:
- Everywhere it says HD2 US comes only in Spring. I assume it will only be available at T-Mobile after March or later. Expansys told me they expect it mid-march. Thus not in time if I want it in February during my trip.
- HD2 Europe vs US: 3G Bands, RAM and ROM. Any other difference?
- HD2 Europe: If HTC Sense is taken out there shall be plenty of ROM space for WM7 (if WM 7 is ever released for the HD2) and say about 100MB for applications (I don't care about installing many applications in ROM - just 100 MB or so)? Most agree with this? - This is my main doubt along with:
- HD2 US: can the camera pink hue be once and for all fixed (many people complain about it even after patching) with this new version of HD2? The Overexposure of Flash as well? - second main doubt.
I thank you so much for any help.

may be the t mobile version will not work in your region where you are from
Thanks. I guess the frequencies are the same. Only problem is with 3G. But then I'll have problems with both as my area is 850Mhz. I have bought from T-mobile US before and had no problems with other stuff.
it's a no brainer as far as i would be concerned. swap full connectivity (it won't work right unless you are using t mobile us)for some extra rom that probably won't make any difference in the win 7 will it/won't it argument? not me, get yourself a "normal"one and forget the t mo one would be my advice.

it would be better if you get a hd2 from australlia it has the same frequency as yours look at these specifications http://www.htc.com/au/product/hd2/specification.html and with respect to the extra rams and rom we discovered that hd2 normal has extra rams and activated now developers are searching now for extra rom

the different radios use different hardware, flashing a new rom won't alter the frequencies it will or won't work with.

Oh, you were talking about the Radio hardware itself. Yeah, I knew I would have to compromise my 3G with both the US and Europe version, although other bands would be fine. But this Australian option changes the picture. I'll take a look thanks to both.

flashing, no problem, sim unlocking has been an issue for some people (there currently isn't a do it yourself unlocker, only web sites selling unlock codes, which some people say doesn't always work.)
am sure that will only be a temporary problem though...
Just to say thanks to you two who have been helping me. I've just placed an order for HD2 Telstra as suggested by hoss_n2. Grateful.
I've been following the developments on the recent radios, including the 2.08.50.08_2 radio thread and i must say i'm very confused. I am under the impression this is a TMOUS radio and from what i gather, TMOUS hardware is not the same as the original leo, especially the radio hardware. And yet i see all these people eager to flash their original leos with these new radios.
My question is: do we know for a fact that these radios developed for TMOUS are being developed with backward-compatibility with the original leo hardware? Is it not risky to flash our phones to run radio software against hardware it is not developed for?

its the same phone... so same hardware.
that would explain the poor audio quality i get with radios 2.07 or above. However only a few people seem to have this problem. Others report good quality, reception and battery life.

It would be nice to throw in a link or two of sources that state that the T8585 and T9193 have exactly the same hardware, otherwise it's just your opinion.
T8585 runs on 850MHz while T9193 runs on 900MHz, how do we know TMOUS radios are compatible with our original leo's 850MHz working frequency?
Also if some mod could move this to the general forum, i just realized i posted it in the ROM forum.

Radio antenna's have to be "tuned" to the required frequency bands in order to optimise performance. This is usually done by changing the physical length of the antenna and/or using different passband filters.
Ever take an old radio apart? there are (usually) square metal blocks with what looks like a screw head in the top. That can be twisted to alter the working frequency, the rest of the radio doesn't need to be rebuilt/programmed for it to work. Same when Channel 5 started in the UK, they emplyed loads of people to twist a small screw in the back of VCR's to retune them.
Same with the radio's in our HD2s, the hardware will be the same in each unit, just the frequencies pre set differently. The radio stack shouldnt make any difference from one unit to the next, (except of course the internal operation of the stack, , battery life, etc)

sorry for dumb question but are you saying that TMOUS roms will work just fine on T8585?
Hello all...
First let me apologize for asking this, but the wiki has been down for some time now...
What is the difference between the TMous HD2 and the non-branded/international version? (Not asking about frequencies of radio.)
What makes the device different enough to require its own separate forum? I did notice different cooked rom versions for the two...
If its a software difference, would simply running Task29 on a TMous version solve these issues?
I am looking to get an HD2 to replace my touch pro 2 and just want to be well informed on what I am getting into.

for one, tmous hd2's use a different radio version (.50) than the international (0.51) and as such, ROMs that are based off the tmous version (for the ability to have the extra memory) have to use the .50 radio or you can brick the phone.
Thanks
Also I just found:
The HSPL is different for the T-Mobile USA Device.
The Radio ROMs are different for a T-Mobile USA device.
The The RAM / ROM are different for T-Mo USA device.
The 3G / UMTS bands are different
The size of the device is slightly bigger (very minor) I only noticed when I was puttion on my Europe HD2 sleve on my T-Mo USA device.

You're thinking of the radios (software), not the antenna (hardware).
You do NOT want to use a radio for the euro HD2 on the T-Mobile HD2, that is the surest way to brick it. However, you CAN try different radios for the T-Mobile version, to see if any of them help improve your reception there.

I don't really know for sure....but it's an integral part of the chassis, so it's not like you could just replace it anyway, not without a lot of effort.

Just flash different radios, they aren't hard to flash, and try them out for a little, one is bound to help you get better reception!

As the other's have said, you can try different TMOUS SUPPORTED radios, but unfortunately that's all you really have available to try... the registry wouldn't have anything to do with reception... it only deals with the PDA function of the phone, not the phone function it's self.

When you say t mobile, do you mean t mo USA? Only the USA version (the "tmous") is different.
Always and only 2.08.hspl for android and wp7.
Radio, there are two families of radios, 2.xx.51.x and 2.xx.50.x,, (shortened to ..50.. and ..51.. ) take special note of the 50 and 51. For magldr, android, wp7 you MUST have a ..50.. radio, and the 2.xx.50 xx must be higher than 06.
To keep it simple, if you DO have a tmous, the radio will already work. (..50.. radios are tmous radios)
If you have a regular hd2 (all white hard key lights) then go flash 2.15.50 radio.
If you do have a tmous NEVER EVER flash a ..51.. radio, or a non tmous stock winmo rom, or ..50.. radios lower than 2.06.50, because they will always brick tmous phones.
Yes it is Tmob USA version
Its different??
Thank you for your reply Sir
Can you please suggest me a hspl & radio for my tmous, I have found HSPL4 from your signature & the radio from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
that link (1st radio of that link) i.e Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14**: MultiUpload
Can I use those or it will brick??
Thank you again
use hspl4 to set 2.08.hspl (android / wp7 will ONLY work with 2.08.hspl) and yes that radio is fine.
