Hey all, i am X10i user, i want to move to nexus S, what do you thing about your phone?
How about price compared with its performance? And how about its camera and battery?

Help me to make my choice.

I pretty much just did exactly the same thing as what your are talking about.
smashed my x10i two weeks ago in thiland on holiday (would not boot)
cam back home and brought a nexus s for $300 AUD outright unbranded
camera is pretty good but shame it is not 8.1mp and no 720p video
battery is awsome i am geting twice as long as my x10i had to charge 3x on a friday?
speed is incredible you are geting what 2.3 was built for
lack of SD slot a shame but 16GB is prerty good
i would have like to wait for the galaxy s but money and time (could not live with using my HTC magic anymore)

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus S for a friend as well.
In your day to day use (say any activity except for gaming), have you had any performance issues at all? Have you noticed any lag?
Thanks!
I'm using Nexus S after selling my Sgs I9003.
Works great with major custom rom, for instance, CyanogenMod7 and MIUI.
If you want your phone be able to got the latest and fastest rom upgrade from google,
then Nexus S would be a suitable phone for you.
It's comparatively spendable in price.
I bought it for Rp.3.999.000,- on Global Teleshop Yogyakarta.
And now, I already loved it....

Not any worth noting I have only had to restart the phone once and it was a Telco issue any way (would not send sms) where My x10i was being rebooted at least 3 times a day running 2.3.
I do like moding my phones but atm i have yet to unlock the nexus mainly because Andriod is getting to the point where there is realy no need to. it just works. (maybe need to get proxys working soon for work )
Bought this phone off someone for $250 wasn't really used. Perfect condition. I would say go for it if you are doing a hardware upgrade. I would have to say - the lack of SD and gorilla glass (not to mention some models dont have AMOled), might as well pay a few more for the new Nexus or GSII. =)
I bought one a month or so ago (roughly) that was only a little over a month old for $150
It's a good phone. I don't like how it feels like cheap plastic (I miss the feel of the Nexus One) but other than that, no complaints. The screen is gorgeous.
I'm content... just impatiently waiting for the CyanogenMod super-geniuses to make some Ice Cream Sandwich magic
you should wait for nexus prime
I have SGS2 but i just ordered Nexus S yesterday. woohoo can't wait!!
so i'll have 2 samsung's by next week!
currently is the best phone you can find with a low price and can still work perfectly another year (waiting for next Nexus)
Galaxy S2 and others are better but more expensive and the user experience does not change enough for pay this difference
The only reason for buy another phone is search for a greatest screen

I agree. I know its not a dual core but it is the best single core device out there. Plus ics is coming soon ....officially from Google no custom rom with bugs to be fix. Love it

Came from x10 mini pro 2 weeks ago, just glad to have a phone that doesn't freeze on me. I like the size of it, I miss the flashy and colourful notification LED but the soft buttons on the Nexus S do the notification trick for me now.
I got it because it was guaranteed the 4.0 update, it's pure vanilla android and it was awesome value.
Battery life is amazing!
Just thought I'd post my experience since I came from an SE phone too.

I dunno - dual core kicks in when single cores just can't cut it. =/
Try playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on the Nexus S? Yeah....

And which one do you prefer between nexus S and Optimus 2x?
All i need is fully working ICS?

I bought my nexus s 9023 2 weeks ago and i love it. bought it for 190€ (greetings from germany ) and i got lots of stuff with it like 2 cases.
I came from a Milestone. I am so glad i dumped that milestone.
imho the nexus s is the best smartphone you can get for that price right now. It doesnt have to be dualcore all the time. Single core is good enough for most of the operations a smartphone has to do.
How about its GPU compared with tegra2?

I got a nexus s in the exact same situation. I had an lg phone already (Optimus t) and I wasn't impressed with their ability to put out an update, so when I heard that the nexus s was going to get ICS, then I was sold. Get a used GSM unlocked one for under 300 USD and enjoy the most reasonable android 4.0 device on the planet.

Hi Everyone,
I saw a lot of posts in Xperia Play section like " I will buy a new phone. I will switch my Play. " I know, the reason is ICS update. But, If we get ICS, we will never use it smoothly, right ? Ice Cream Sandiwch was came a lot of Xperia. But, which Xperia can use ICS smoothly ? Let's assume that, we got ICS. ICS uses a lot of RAM. (Let anyone accept this, please!) And ICS isn't a gaming friend. But Xperia Play is gaming phone. I mean ICS is not for us anyway. What do you guys think ?
hmm, older phones with similar or worse specs can handle ics well, like nexus s,htc one v (same chipset, 512mb ram)
The problem with ICS is the gaming aspect, not hardware limitations.

People are too spoiled these days. Once they learn that a newer version of ANYTHING is coming to their device, they absolutely HAVE to have it. And if a company decides to back out of its promise (like Sony did with ICS for Xperia Play), people will cry on internet forums and some even decide to get rid of their phone in favour of another one that can run ICS. Though they somehow ignore the fact that doing this, they lose the BIGGEST advantage Xperia Play has over any other phone - physical controls.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia U SK25i
Getting it near Xmas and will keep my play

I think ICS is just have Beautiful UI , Nova Launcher and Chrome. I'm happy with Gingerbread. **** you sony, I dont care ICS so you can stop any development you want
Tapatalk 2 ile R800i cihazımdan gönderildi
It's not about ICS itself, it's about Sony not keeping promises: ICS, PSP games etc.
Speaking for myself, The Xperia play is a good phone, not great, i bought seeking for game specs on a phone, such as you would by a pc for games, you would think it would have alot more then any phone, but in fact it had less specs the only thing it has is physical controls, but in may games you can switch your physical keyboard to make it a gamepad or add a usb gamepad to work with it, so it really doesnt give you such a difference, im always laggy on games and even on the homescreen some times, ICS on the rom from keiran im running much better then on the 2.3.4 official firmware, thats why im going to leave behind the play.
Besides the fact of sony backing up on releasing the ICS which i've been expected since they announce it

sony should just release the sources for their touchpads, this would be great, and we can finally switch to roms like cm9 and aokp with touchpad support!
Well, for me I'll switch back to good old HTC with the One X this time, only reason I bought an SE Xperia is cause of the gamepad and so far it's been a real good experience. I don't care about the ICS it's ugly. One X with MIUI rom I'm looking forward to.
As someone who had a Galaxy Nexus and used a USB OTG cable for my USB gamepad, the Play is a savior. I thought I'd be all set, but it prevents you from charging the device at the same time. Plus you have to prop it up somewhere. It was really annoying. Nothing beats physical controls, and this thing runs emulators like a champ. No complaints here.
The fact that I know for as long as I have this phone I need to stick to the same version is depressing. Since I cant unlock my bl I can't install the epic Roms. Thats the only reason I no longer want to keep my phone, id rather a regularly updated one. But I'm not selling this phone yet. I'll give it awhile.

Why can't you unlock? At least you don't have to pay like R800x users.
I also still like the play and as I got no extra money, I won't be able to switch to another phone in a while.
That it's not getting update to ICS is for me on the one side noot so much important...
But on the other site... I simply hate getting lied right to my face, and thats what happend here. I bought the phone with SONY's promise it will get ICS in April and now it doesn't.
Thats actually ground enough to sue them because they tricked you into buying it with false promises.
Highlighting that aspect from another side - They are not keeping their well documented promise to update to android 4, that means my phone is missing all the functions an android 4 update would have brought -> Underperforming phone / phone with missing functionalities, as they promised to update and now do not. Should be enough to get some money back as you do not get the full functionalities you actually bought by paying full price...
tbh. I'm just pissed of at the company right now... Sony (we) make. (You) believe
I got the galaxy 3 and I'm not looking back.. Best phone I've ever had

I was in a store today and tried all kinds of the new smartphones out there. And I walked out giggling. Damn, after 3 years there is no phone out there, even with their quad core this super Gpu that, which i would take over my Galaxy s.
The S2 and S3 are impressive, but are big as hell, also quite expensive. The Nexus phones always impressed me, but they don't take external sd cards or swappable battery.
I never liked HTC phones either.
And with the latest CM10 and semaphore kernel my old Galaxy s still can compete with the latest products and still looks beautiful and even better than the new stuffs.
And don't get me started to compare it with Iphones.
Talking about durability, my little boy thrown my Galaxy S couple hundreds times on the floor, and it's still ain't broke yet. Meanwhile i saw tens of broken iphones. Funny that the people normally still walk around with a broken display, because they can't afford to buy another overpriced phone.
You can say I'm a Galaxy s fanboy, and after 3 years it didn't change. That's something isn't it?
Thank you all devs for making this phone such a fun thing to play with!
From Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, ICS and now Jelly Bean... it was a heck of ride.
same here, ive had my s1 for nearly 3 years, not used much for last year as i've had an s2 and now an s3 but the s1 gotta be better than both, kids been playing with it for last year but still in great condition and not too much difference from an s2 or an s3

I had mine since the first day it was released in the UK at Carphone Warehouse in August 2010. Coming off the G1 all it took was to see it switched on in the shop to indulge in a bit of impulse buying.
Upgraded to a Galaxy Note 5.3" six months ago and then only used the S to play with CM builds. Sold my Note a couple of weeks ago to get the cash for the Nexus 4 and been back to my trusted S and I cant believe how decent it feels for an everyday phone running CM10 nightlies.
As much as I liked the Note I just never got attached to it like I did with the S.

I couldn't agree more. I bought my Galaxy S second hand more than a year ago just to see what Android was like and I have been happy since. Off-course it needs some tweaking but mine is running very fast at the moment (Semaphore kernel + X-Bean 3.0 + script). I did try other Android phones from friends and in shops but their overall size is just too big and they seem very fragile. If my phone would fail I really don't know what phone currently on the market I'd go for. Quadcore sounds nice but the screens are just too big.
Thanks to the developers the phone is still alive...without them it wouldn't have been the same...I would have bought a new phone by now if it wasn't for them. :good:

Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..

Samsung Galaxy s4 mini is a better option I think..it has cm, It will get official android 4.4 on July, 1.5GB ram..much better colors on screen and a very good front facing camera
Bad thing is that xperia sp will be stuck on 4.3 forever....... But atleast there is cm.
My mom has the galaxy s4 mini and it's very good and better than xperia in many departments... The only ups of xperia is the gpu and resolution.

SGS4 mini was first choice but it is at least $170 more than the Xperia SP(I got the SP at a discount price of $200). So this puts the S4 mini in a different league altogether.

I got my xperia sp about 3 months ago. It still is an almost high-end smartphone. To be exact, it's still in the very upper hand of mid-rangers. It can beat up plenty phones in its category, and it's a reliable choise even now. Its processor might be somewhat old, but it's great for multitasking or everything else you'll need. As for graphics, the adreno 320 might be a bit old, but I haven't seen any recent mid-range phones with this g.p.u. except the xperia sp. In other words...it's like it just came out. Buy it and you'll be quite pleased you did. If you want to have kitkat though, there's no information whether this phone will get it or not, so be careful in terms of software.
If you asked me this a week ago I would tell you a straightforward honest no. I was fed up with the tiny problems that always occured and somewhat laggy app responses during use.
But two days ago I got the newest update .205, and everything changed. I finally feel like I got the phone I payed for, and there is nothing I could complain about, really nothing now. It's very smooth and fast in daily use, imidiately responsive, an unbelievable transformation from the former experience I had with it.
$200? Definitely worth it now in my oppinion.

Is the Sony Xperia SP a good buy at $200. Should I go for it? What do you think?
Also, can you tell me why has the CM11 nightly stopped since 2nd July? This is a bit worrying.

Definitely
I got the phone for my sister (I own the Xperia ArcS) about 2 weeks ago and it is even better than I imagined. Even the stock rom has very few bloatware compared to older xperia phones, extremely easy to root and with a good amount of RAM and internal memory. Plus it's the only 2013 xperia phone that will probably get the 4.4 kitkat update, If I recall correctly
Definitely worthy to buy, IMO
It's quite encouraging so far looking at the answers.
I'm interested in XSP as well. A few people in the official Sony discussion forum complained about low in-call volume. Hopefully those were some isolated cases. What is the experience of you all?
A big Thank You to you wonderful fellow Xperia SP users for your kind and informative replies. I have bought the phone(Got the C5302) and I love it! It is a very good quality phone for the price.

I have the C5302 and I can see the H+ in the notification bar which I guess is for HSPA+. I won't be using LTE anyway

Although 4.3 is good for now, I sure would like to see official update(s). Sony's Timescape UI is the bomb.

I sure am pleased with it! The fact that it is still being officially sold by sony is nice to boot. Talking of the CPU and GPU, I quite like the CPU and the GPU. What I don't particularly like is the amount of RAM in the phone. There have been instances where the launcher takes time to load into memory after I exit a game or a heavy duty app. Not cool
I must admit the official updates bit is worrying but I took the plunge anyway(Yes, I live life on the bleeding edge).

Yea the stock ROM is very fluid and a pleasure to use. I dig it too! The amount of RAM is descent in this price range but a little more wouldn't hurt Rooted and booted too
I read reports that 4.4 was going to come out in June but since it hasn't, maybe they were just rumors unless Sony is lagging behind. I have a gut feeling that Sony will bring the kitkat update to SP before laying it to rest but I feel the SP deserves a lot more.
Need more RAM though for being able to run any future versions of android(Android L and beyond)

By all means, go ahead! It is a wonderful phone to own. It has a great build unlike the Samsungs et al. You must already know about the update bit where Sony will probably stop support after 4.3 JB or a maximum of 4.4 Kitkat. If you are okay with this and a little dearth of RAM, then this is a sweet little device.
But now coming to the serious bit, I am having issues with the auto brightness. I looked it up on the internet and came across many others having this issue too. I tried the Yet another brightness app ftom the playstore but it doesn't work for me either
P.S. Does Sony provide a way to change the settings menu to black color? White is too fancy for my taste
A query. My Xperia SP had this wallpaper on it. Somehow it doesn't feel right. Can someone shed some light on this?
http://imgur.com/E0afP2y
Also, there are no Live wallpapers by Sony on it( I am not sure about the Enchanted Forrest). Is this right?
