Hey all, i am X10i user, i want to move to nexus S, what do you thing about your phone?
How about price compared with its performance? And how about its camera and battery?
And what about if nexus S compared with galaxy S?
Help me to make my choice.

I pretty much just did exactly the same thing as what your are talking about.
smashed my x10i two weeks ago in thiland on holiday (would not boot)
cam back home and brought a nexus s for $300 AUD outright unbranded
camera is pretty good but shame it is not 8.1mp and no 720p video
battery is awsome i am geting twice as long as my x10i had to charge 3x on a friday?
speed is incredible you are geting what 2.3 was built for
lack of SD slot a shame but 16GB is prerty good
i would have like to wait for the galaxy s but money and time (could not live with using my HTC magic anymore)

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus S for a friend as well.
In your day to day use (say any activity except for gaming), have you had any performance issues at all? Have you noticed any lag?
Thanks!
I'm using Nexus S after selling my Sgs I9003.
Works great with major custom rom, for instance, CyanogenMod7 and MIUI.
If you want your phone be able to got the latest and fastest rom upgrade from google,
then Nexus S would be a suitable phone for you.
It's comparatively spendable in price.
I bought it for Rp.3.999.000,- on Global Teleshop Yogyakarta.
And now, I already loved it....

Not any worth noting I have only had to restart the phone once and it was a Telco issue any way (would not send sms) where My x10i was being rebooted at least 3 times a day running 2.3.
I do like moding my phones but atm i have yet to unlock the nexus mainly because Andriod is getting to the point where there is realy no need to. it just works. (maybe need to get proxys working soon for work )
Bought this phone off someone for $250 wasn't really used. Perfect condition. I would say go for it if you are doing a hardware upgrade. I would have to say - the lack of SD and gorilla glass (not to mention some models dont have AMOled), might as well pay a few more for the new Nexus or GSII. =)
I bought one a month or so ago (roughly) that was only a little over a month old for $150
It's a good phone. I don't like how it feels like cheap plastic (I miss the feel of the Nexus One) but other than that, no complaints. The screen is gorgeous.
I'm content... just impatiently waiting for the CyanogenMod super-geniuses to make some Ice Cream Sandwich magic
you should wait for nexus prime
I have SGS2 but i just ordered Nexus S yesterday. woohoo can't wait!!
so i'll have 2 samsung's by next week!
currently is the best phone you can find with a low price and can still work perfectly another year (waiting for next Nexus)
Galaxy S2 and others are better but more expensive and the user experience does not change enough for pay this difference
The only reason for buy another phone is search for a greatest screen

I agree. I know its not a dual core but it is the best single core device out there. Plus ics is coming soon ....officially from Google no custom rom with bugs to be fix. Love it

Came from x10 mini pro 2 weeks ago, just glad to have a phone that doesn't freeze on me. I like the size of it, I miss the flashy and colourful notification LED but the soft buttons on the Nexus S do the notification trick for me now.
I got it because it was guaranteed the 4.0 update, it's pure vanilla android and it was awesome value.
Battery life is amazing!
Just thought I'd post my experience since I came from an SE phone too.

I dunno - dual core kicks in when single cores just can't cut it. =/
Try playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on the Nexus S? Yeah....

And which one do you prefer between nexus S and Optimus 2x?

I bought my nexus s 9023 2 weeks ago and i love it. bought it for 190€ (greetings from germany ) and i got lots of stuff with it like 2 cases.
I came from a Milestone. I am so glad i dumped that milestone.
imho the nexus s is the best smartphone you can get for that price right now. It doesnt have to be dualcore all the time. Single core is good enough for most of the operations a smartphone has to do.
How about its GPU compared with tegra2?

I got a nexus s in the exact same situation. I had an lg phone already (Optimus t) and I wasn't impressed with their ability to put out an update, so when I heard that the nexus s was going to get ICS, then I was sold. Get a used GSM unlocked one for under 300 USD and enjoy the most reasonable android 4.0 device on the planet.

I love my Vibrant. I really do. It's been running great since the day 1.
In 20 days, I am moving overseas. I know for a fact that the cell phones are much more expensive in the country that I will be traveling. If I ever decide to change my Vibrant, I need to do it now! But I don't know what to get
Essentially, there would be at least half a dozen new phones to choose from, which all would have a ton of new stuff; but I don't believe this is the case. HTC Sensation? Droid X? What is out there that would blow my brains out?
Anyways, if you think Vibrant is weak compared to newer phones and recommend I should change it before my travel, please say so. Thanks!

There have been a lot of killer phones recently released, but I'm lovin' my Sensation!
depends... where are you moving to? - don't have to answer if its that personal to you.
then we can tell you that phones are released there, or what phones are set to be released.
Anyways without knowing your location a random shot - i'd say Galaxy S 2
I personally don't think any of the new devices (Galaxy S2 included) really justify the cost of buying a new device. Unless Android finally gains some multi-core support now, dual cores will underperform compared to a higher clocked single core chip or due to the higher resolutions on newer devices such as the Sensation. As of now, your best bet is to just upgrade to CM7 or a nice JVR rom (has a buttery smooth browser similar to the one in SGS2) and wait the for next Nexus. Even on its single core Hummingbird, the Nexus S still probably performs the same of slightly better simply due to its stock vanilla rom.

No nothing is worth the money to upgrade right now. The vibrant (if its modded and customized) should be good enough wherever you're going. See if you can get your hands on a regular internation galaxy s. Its supported infinitely more (they've been on gb since like september lol) and still gets updates...
The gs 2 isn't worth the upgrade. Well to me atleast. The screen is the same that's the only deal breaker
I have the epic 4g and this phone is definitely good enough. My friend just got the sensation and I'm envious, ofcourse, but its not as much of a jump from, say, the mytouch 3g to the mytouch 4g slide.
If you really want to upgrade, then get another gsm phone. The droid x is a downgrade and its also CDMA which is mainly only supported in the US and japan.
Good luck, my fellow galaxy s brother

I would love mine more if it wasn't for all the things that should just work that are kinda quirky. I love the screen and everything else that isnt
At least this phone has given me insights into exactly what to look for and test before i will take another phone home. Most of the time you do not realize what is important to you until it doesn't work as expected.
Vibrant - Its like that beautiful expensive car you got then realize that it was a car rental at one time and things just start to surface.... flat tire... um where is the spare... its just a rim with no rubber on it.
Nope there is noting new that is worth changing phone.

Thank you very much guys. I kind of knew it wasn't worth spending a ton of money on something not so much different than our Vibrant running strong on CM7.

its 100% worth it. i bouth the 19020a 7 months ago for 350$ and still dont think i wasted a cent. would probably pay it again if i broke this one
The Nexus S is one of the greatest mobile devices ever made. The hummingbird combo is such a strong processor for it's time, paired with a wonderful screen, sleek black look and styling, and most of all, a Wolfson DAC for top notch sound quality.
I would buy a Nexus S just as a ipod or ipod touch replacement. The fact that it's a phone too is a great bonus. The downside of course is only 16gb internal storage so some may need to be selective with what media you put on there, or get your cloud on.
Personally I'd try to get a GNex on the Google Play Store, its 150$ more and you probably won't get that (darn why did I get a year & half old phone) idea in your head lol It is still a great phone but if you've tried a 720p screen before its hard to go back to a 480p resolution, not to mention you'd be getting like an extra year of official Google support, who knows how many more official updates our Nexus S will get haha. Back on topic, yes the Nexus S is a great phone and you'd be getting amazing AOSP ROMs along with it but don't expect fully functioning sense and touchwiz ROMS, they are great but very buggy IMO.

When i bought this phone 1 year ago there were already dualcore phones but the price of nexus s and knowing that it is official google phone attracted me to it.Today nexus s has ICS and soon coming JB ,my brothers LG O2X according to harware specs much better then nexus has GB on it and it performs much slower to my 4.0.4 offical ROM.So i would recomend this phone to everyone.I love it so much
Hello guys!
Its been a real pleasure being with Nexus S
Its a great cell phone, I love it but now I am at point where I have to change my cell phone, now I wanna buy a LG Nexus 4 but it has not come in my country yet and i dont know when would it come..
So that and the price factor gives me a choice to have either Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S II (Yes 2 not 3 )
now in my head i dont need fast updates because i always use a custom rom and i am ok with even a lower one,
I have used GB in nexus s even though i tasted JB
So the updates are not a problem for me, I just want a cell phone that can last me at least a year with a nice play for the upcoming games or anything else like that.
What would you advise me to buy? GSII or GNex?
If some other with the same specs or better but with same price factor then kindly let me know..
Can't go wrong with either. If you care about roms then the gnex would be the best since it will get the major android updates til the software is to much for the hardware.

Seriously, choosing between the GNex and the S2? That's not fair because the S2 was released by Samsung to steal market from the Nexus S after releasing the latter. (IMHO, the S2 is just a Nexus S on steroids). Now if you are choosing between the GNex and the S3, that would be a better comparison, the S3 is better in hardware but would take 10 years to get an update compared to the Gnex, but like you said, if you're happy with ROMs like CM or AOKP, then it would probably matter less.

The SGSII and the GNex are extremely similar. The GNex has a slightly lower pixel density on the camera, but a little larger screen.
If you're in love with AOSP roms, the GNex will be the way to go. If you just want another phone and have the money to blow on a good SD and such, then go SGSII.

I've been debating buying a Nexus 4 for awhile. At this point, do you guys still think its worth it? I've heard rumors that they might be coming out with a new model this year, plus we have the GS4 and the HTCOne coming out very shortly. Do you guys think its worth the money? I really like the OS, no carrier stuff in it. Plus I'm off contract with ATT, so I dont have to worry about that, ill have good service.
-Thanks
I would still buy it. The N5 is still a rumour and anyway regardless if it does come out you'll always get OS updates before Samsung and HTC.
Maybe wait for a while for the much rumoured Motorola x? Nexus 4 is worth the money. You get what you paid for. Except for sd card and battery life, everything about this is excellent! I am overlooking the camera cuz no one should expect a dslr quality image from a mobile phone.
I am very happy with my nexus 4. Whoever I show it to, is really pleased with design of this device. They have never heard of this phone. In fact the nexus line. Imho, if you look for features on a smartphone go for Samsung, if you look for pure stock experience with updates and support go for nexus 4.

Heavy?????? I wouldn't say so at 139 grams.
It is hard to me to get any other android phone these days. I used to work at sprint and hated that they weren't going to have nexus 4, galaxy nexus was just too old at the time and with no voice and data...
I have used gs3 and one x plenty, neither work as well as stock android. Touch wiz is buggy and takes away core features while adding new ones that don't work too well, aside from being very laggy compared to stock.
Sense is not bad, but multitasking on it is horrific, even if you root it.
Both aren't great with software updates, HTC ones never come and Samsung ones end up buggy in most cases.
Motorola ui thus far is too inferior to even consider. Point is, no thing really compared to stock in my opinion. You may see much better benchmarks on gs4 but I doubt day to day it'd prove as stable and smooth as n4.
So, to me... Yes, worth the money, specially considering you'd get one for less than $400 with no contract! My only major issue with n4 is the antenna, it is subpar compared to other devices, same was for gn.

lol @ almost a year old. April 13th will be 5 months. And yes i would suggest it if you like stock android. If your more into skins and bloat, go for the HTC one or the S4 at nearly double the price.
Yeah, that's my fault. I thought they came out last summer, didn't know they were that new yet. I'm just tired of all the manufacturers screwing with the phones, and the constant problems. Plus the fact that you never see updates, ever. I have a OneX now, and im so tired of how sluggish and slow it is. Plus i have constant problems with it anymore.
Just hoping this is a good move. I can't wait to get it and start using it.

updates are immediately, you will never regret a Nexus phone
I've asked myself the same questions as yourself before buying myself the nexus 4.
First, looking at timeline of nexus device releases, I've noticed it releases one at every year. So i assume the next nexus phone will only be here by November-December 2013 even if it will be announced at the May Google I/O.
Galaxy S4 is indeed a great device specwise (even better if you can get the 8 core version). But for me, it's still not a Nexus device, the build quality must be inferior to the current Nexus 4 (based on S3), looks exactly like the S3 which is EXTREMELY popular device (not unique), and the Nexus 4 is much more affordable priced.
HTC One, the only thing that will attract me over the nexus 4 is the full aluminum body. Not a Sense fan. That's it.
So with all those, i ended up with the Nexus 4 and I don't regret it.
Its not even halfway to a year old. Its not outdated hardware. S4 Pro is still one of Qualcomms fastest chips. and the Snapdragon 600 uses the same gpu "Adreno 320"
Almost a year? N4 might be too complicated for you.
And yeah google will release another nexus phone...probably 7months from. The N4 is still the best android phone out and it is the best out of the box android device I've used in 4yrs of android by far.
Its blazing fast despite using an older soc. Faster as there's hardly any overlay on it. Next phone will probably be the X phone which will rumoured boasts the S800 which will be fast but the N4 is no slouch.

Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.
€: And I don't like WP because I'm a huge fan of costumization.
Keep the Sensation or whatever you have and wait for Nexus 5, trust me on this.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.
NOTE. All decision is urs what ever suits you best.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

If you need a phone now, just go for it. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and see what comes up. IMO I usually don't want the first batch of the phone anyway since they are usually the ones with problems.
just buy it
I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..
Root and flash cyanogenmod and Franco kernel... That made me a delighted user from a happy user...
Besides it'll have developer support for hell lot of a time to come... Even after people forget about HTC one and s4..
:good::good:
I'm going to buy it at the end of August and I think it is still worth it. However reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259334 scaried me!
