Sorry can't help you but I just noticed this today too.
I did had a large video on here but deleted it , seems it hasn't freed up the space...
Have you looked for a folder called "LOST.DIR" ? if you have one, delete it and then see remaining space.
also try sd maid

SD Maid is a really cool app, thanks for recommending that. It got me back about 1GB but still seems I have a lot of space lost in the ether :crying:
I wonder if the storage graph counts app data that is downloaded seperately like games that download an additional 500MB or some such to the SD? I have at least 4 games on my device that did that which could account for some of the missing data if that is the case.
I'm missing space as well, but using DiskUsage showed a lot more detail of my memory usage.
I think the storage display is being a little too simplistic.

Disk Usage is a great app too! it did show me where most of my data has gone. I have 2GB in comics on my device I totally forgot and the rest of the data is "Android data" such as all the additional game data like I suspected.
I appreciate all the app suggestions and help guys. I feel much better now knowing what all is using up my space. (wish there was a 32GB version of the N7 but oh well)
Hold the power button till it shuts down, once it restarts the memory should be back as available. At least it was on mine.

Factory reset with Nexus 7 toolkit. I did the factory image thing and it fixed it up.

One of the thumbnail files in /DCIM/.thumbnails/ was 1.27GB in size. This is a file that doesn't show up for some reason on that DiskUsage app by the way (even with root), so that's worth checking out with a file explorer.
I deleted mine and put a .nomedia file in my movies, wallpaper and DCIM folders, hoping it'll stop making thumbnails.
Thanks!

This freed up most of the space that was reported in DiskUsage as "System Data" but I still have almost 1Gb used and can't see what's using it. Anyone know of an app that breaks down System data usage?
Bit of a pain having to reboot the device each time I want to free up system data...

so, i noticed that my 16gb storage card was filling up, and i had no idea why. silly windows 7 won't let you organize folders by size (files yes, folders no), so i couldn't tell what folder what so ginormous. i thought it was either my music or my movies folder, but neither one of those was over 3 gigs.
i picked up a program called tree size off of cnet. it showed me everything.
my nandroid folder was HUGE, because i've been backing up everytime before i do something potentially stupid. the thing was well over 4 gigs.
anyhoo, just a reminder to those of you that use nandroid regularly to go through and delete those older dates you may not use.
this may be common knowledge to most of you, but i wasn't aware.
Oh yeah, this can definitely fill up your SD card rather quickly. I have a folder on my computer and just transfer from backups there every now and then.

Awesome topic, found the nandroid folders in astro and found the backups, deleting them gave me over a gig back... awesome
excellent irony

App2SD shows I have only 43MB free out of 500MB storage on the EVO 4G, and I've moved all possible apps to the SD card.
The thing is the apps listed in 'phone only' ar enot taking up that much storage, so it must be the OS/data. Is there any way to clear that, or should I finally install a custom ROM?
I have about 75 or so apps installed and still have 240MB free. MIUI itself is about 100MB smaller than Sense ROMs so that helps, plus apps2sd.
lol they didnt expect people to have ten billion apps installed.
Nope...I don't keep apps on my phone that I don't use on a daily basis.
Try this....
If you use Dark Tremors A2SD solution here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116 it will solve your storage dilemma. Just make sure you get a class 6 memory card.
Ha, I filled up my phone within a couple days of when I got it. Went on a bit of an apps install bender.
cl6 16gb, 1gb ext/a2sd partition, this is what titanium backup tells me

Yep same, I was full after a few days as well. I hate apps that cant go on sd.
Freed up a LOT of space by switching to AOSP... Considering how EVERY HTC and Sprint bloatware app was stuck on the internal memory, getting rid of those freed up a lot of space for me.
lol... i hate all the people that downrate apps because they dont go to sd card. Especially all the apps that cant go to the card.. (like flash) because they are a plug in.

Hi,
I set all images to be stored in external card and I can see there are about 17gb images data in external drive. However when I check the usage of gallery app why it is taking 4gb space from the internal storage? I only have very few images in internal which are mainly from apps such WhatsApp or other default video, and those are not more than 100mb in total.
Anyone else having the same issue?
Does the gallery app size grow as well (eg. For thumbnail purpose perhaps?) if the more I put images in external card?

No nothing that I can find so far. I decided to try clicking 'clear data' and now reduced to 320mb. I assume that is for the thumbnail. Although that was showing 4gb before I didn't get about 4gb back on the available space now. This is weird, It is more or less I'm getting the similar available space as before.

Is anyone else getting this issue?
Recently, my phone has been telling me that my internal storage space is running out. I have hardly anything stored in my internal storage.
I used an app called DiskUsage to find out what was using up the space and I discovered a load of files in the folder called .MyFilesContentSearch. There are several files with the extension .prx that can be up to 3GB each, and some .frq files that can be up to 1GB each. There are also several cfs files measuring just over 400MB each. What on earth is this app doing?
The full path to this folder is /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.samsung.indexservice/files/.MyFilesContentSearch

I know there have been threads complaining about CPU usage, overheating and battery drain related to IndexService, all of which I experience whenever IndexService is running, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue of excess storage space being taken up.
I did try resetting my phone and reformatting my 32gb storage card, but the problem won't go away. Even if I take out my SD card, the folder fills up.
I have seen claims that this has to do with a corrupt pdf file, but I'm not convinced. I deleted all the pdf files that I could find on my device, but the problem remains.
I have found that I can delete the files without any problems, but the folder will just fill up again after a day or two. It's not the end of the world, as I have a spare battery and can close down IndexService and delete the files, but it's an annoyance to have to do this so often.
I know there are things I can do to solve this if I root my phone, but I am not willing to do that just yet, so please don't offer suggestions that require rooting. I intend to send a bug report to Samsung, but before I do that I would like to know if anyone else has this specific issue.
My phone is a UK n9005 from Three and the ROM is XXUDMJ6.
Has this affected anyone here? If so, does anyone know if it gets fixed in later ROM editions?

You might have a file on your phone that crashes the Samsung indexer service.
Get Android assistant or even without it, force close applications you downloaded around the time the problem came out and just see when the problem goes away, since I also think it's something interacting with indexer. Come to think of it why not wipe cache first and if not fixed, factory reset? If factory reset doesn't work I would send it back for repair.
Sorry if this is an easy fix but I am new to the Android platform. I have 32GB S7 Edge from Verizon with 64GB SD card (free from Samsung). I only have about 15 apps installed however it says - you have about 500mb left out of the 32Gb. I looked in the apps page and I show an 18GB 'English Language Pack' app which i have disabled. How do I remove this massive file eating 18GB of prime space? Is this some sort of storage bug as I am not sure how I have run out of space so soon with very few apps.

I had a similar experience, set the phone up, installed my 30ish apps and for some reason the memory was not reporting the disk usage correctly, said i had 3Gb left even though the apps were only about 6-7Gb. I did a clear of the system cache and it sorted it.

Thanks. I have the latest updates as well. I cleared the 'Cached data' but that didn't clear it up. Is that the system cache? Sounds like a storage bug of some sort. How big is your Android 'English Language Pack' on your S7s? Just curious.
I also disabled all the 'apps' listed in this forum as unnecessary to see if that helps. It did not.

Okay - Thanks Brava27 you win the prize of the day! Here is how I fixed it:
1) Re-enabled Android's 'English Language Pack' application
2) Clicked 'Clear Data' it dropped from 18GB to 0.
3) Disabled 'English Language Pack'
What is that pack even used for if you can disable it? How did it grow to 18GB in size?

Still an issue
This started for me about 3 weeks ago on S7 Edge.
Wiped phone trying to figure out what was eating space.
Found "English Language Pack" v 1.7.18 is eating all my space with its data
I can clear data, but it still comes back ..not right away .. but within 1-3 days.
I have cleared and disabled, but that does not stop it. I have to enable again to delete data.
Anyone have any idea how to figure out what is causing it to eat all the space on internal storage.
Still an issue
I have minimized the apps loaded, but this is still an issue.
It does at least only happen while connected to Wifi
I have caught it while happening, "English Language Pack" storage grows, I delete data, hit back, then select storage again and it is already downloaded 200MB and still growing.
No apps "running"
Reboot, it stops
Turn off Wifi, it stops
If connected to Wifi, it will start again anywhere from 10min - 24 hours later.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Where do u find this English pack?
These are S voice language packs, they can be disabled in apps manager. This is a weird bug and anyone experiencing this may need to factory reset the phone.
