Running out of space on S7 Edge. Help! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Sorry if this is an easy fix but I am new to the Android platform. I have 32GB S7 Edge from Verizon with 64GB SD card (free from Samsung). I only have about 15 apps installed however it says - you have about 500mb left out of the 32Gb. I looked in the apps page and I show an 18GB 'English Language Pack' app which i have disabled. How do I remove this massive file eating 18GB of prime space? Is this some sort of storage bug as I am not sure how I have run out of space so soon with very few apps.

That's insane. Clear data
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

I had a similar experience, set the phone up, installed my 30ish apps and for some reason the memory was not reporting the disk usage correctly, said i had 3Gb left even though the apps were only about 6-7Gb. I did a clear of the system cache and it sorted it.

Thanks. I have the latest updates as well. I cleared the 'Cached data' but that didn't clear it up. Is that the system cache? Sounds like a storage bug of some sort. How big is your Android 'English Language Pack' on your S7s? Just curious.
I also disabled all the 'apps' listed in this forum as unnecessary to see if that helps. It did not.

Okay - Thanks Brava27 you win the prize of the day! Here is how I fixed it:
1) Re-enabled Android's 'English Language Pack' application
2) Clicked 'Clear Data' it dropped from 18GB to 0.
3) Disabled 'English Language Pack'
What is that pack even used for if you can disable it? How did it grow to 18GB in size?

Still an issue
This started for me about 3 weeks ago on S7 Edge.
Wiped phone trying to figure out what was eating space.
Found "English Language Pack" v 1.7.18 is eating all my space with its data
I can clear data, but it still comes back ..not right away .. but within 1-3 days.
I have cleared and disabled, but that does not stop it. I have to enable again to delete data.
Anyone have any idea how to figure out what is causing it to eat all the space on internal storage.

Still an issue
I have minimized the apps loaded, but this is still an issue.
It does at least only happen while connected to Wifi
I have caught it while happening, "English Language Pack" storage grows, I delete data, hit back, then select storage again and it is already downloaded 200MB and still growing.
No apps "running"
Reboot, it stops
Turn off Wifi, it stops
If connected to Wifi, it will start again anywhere from 10min - 24 hours later.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Where do u find this English pack?

These are S voice language packs, they can be disabled in apps manager. This is a weird bug and anyone experiencing this may need to factory reset the phone.

Less space available than there should be.

I'm having a problem where my device thinks there is only 3.7GB available when actually there should be somewhere around 8 or 9GB free,

Sorry can't help you but I just noticed this today too.
I did had a large video on here but deleted it , seems it hasn't freed up the space...
Have you looked for a folder called "LOST.DIR" ? if you have one, delete it and then see remaining space.
also try sd maid

SD Maid is a really cool app, thanks for recommending that. It got me back about 1GB but still seems I have a lot of space lost in the ether :crying:
I wonder if the storage graph counts app data that is downloaded seperately like games that download an additional 500MB or some such to the SD? I have at least 4 games on my device that did that which could account for some of the missing data if that is the case.
I'm missing space as well, but using DiskUsage showed a lot more detail of my memory usage.
I think the storage display is being a little too simplistic.

Disk Usage is a great app too! it did show me where most of my data has gone. I have 2GB in comics on my device I totally forgot and the rest of the data is "Android data" such as all the additional game data like I suspected.
I appreciate all the app suggestions and help guys. I feel much better now knowing what all is using up my space. (wish there was a 32GB version of the N7 but oh well)
Hold the power button till it shuts down, once it restarts the memory should be back as available. At least it was on mine.

Factory reset with Nexus 7 toolkit. I did the factory image thing and it fixed it up.

One of the thumbnail files in /DCIM/.thumbnails/ was 1.27GB in size. This is a file that doesn't show up for some reason on that DiskUsage app by the way (even with root), so that's worth checking out with a file explorer.
I deleted mine and put a .nomedia file in my movies, wallpaper and DCIM folders, hoping it'll stop making thumbnails.
Thanks!

This freed up most of the space that was reported in DiskUsage as "System Data" but I still have almost 1Gb used and can't see what's using it. Anyone know of an app that breaks down System data usage?
Bit of a pain having to reboot the device each time I want to free up system data...

Why is Google hogging up ALL of my data??!!

So I got a text from T-Mobile telling me that I went over my 2GB Data limit for the month. I was really confused because I barely even use 1GB in a whole month. I checked my settings and I saw what I have posted in the pictures. What can I do to stop this? Anyone ever had this happen to them? Any help will be appreciated!

Same problem as u. From my understanding it's the 4.3 update that is continuing to try and download in the background. There is a few fixes floating around but none of them have work for me.

[Q] Google Services - huge data usage
If you have a custom recovery, try yourzgapps.
I think you should have a look at your google+ backup options... It's probably backing up all your pictures.

google + settings, make sure your picture backup is set to wifi only.. each time you flash a new rom check that to ensure it's not hogging your data
To fix the google service data feast without losing battery life or connection to the servers do the following:
1) Download autorun manager.
2) Open it and picked advanced(recommended).
3) In setting check show system entries.
4) Go back to the main screen and on the left top corner pick system apps.
5) find google service framework and expands it.
6) find systemUpdateService$Receiver and uncheck it (should be the last one).
7) You can also uncheck systemUpdateService$SecretCode just in case( I got it disabled).
I check my Google+ settings and everything was checked off. I'm going to download autorun manager and try that. Thanks!

Battery life issues

Hello,
I've a big battery issue on my LG G2... Everything was working fine and my battery held 1,5 days in normal use. Yesterday I noticed a dramatic battery performance, I have to charge my phone every 3 or 4 hours I can't even charge it while its on because it continue de discharging...
In the battery details, I noticed that there is new "Media" app running all the time and the phone is becoming very hot while it's in my pocket. This application is eating my batterie and I don't know how to stop it...
Any help please? I uploaderd some screenshots for you.
Thank you

Thank you for you help. My phone is rooted. I installed Greenify and wakelock... Unfortunately this media app is a kind of multiple system services, it dont show in the task manager or greenify... And I can't stop it form the menu cause it restart again (the force stop button is disabled)...
The services are:
- Media Storage
- Downloads
- DRM Protected Content Storage
- Download Manager
And they are using 90% of my CPU all the time (doing what ever they are doing)... I've made some search and it seems that it's an android related problème (not only the LG G2)... I've disabled the Downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage and Download Manager services... But I cannot disable the Media storage... It seems that this service keep scanning a corrupted media file (MP3 and photos...), so I deleted all my MP3 but no way
I finally done a reset to factory settings... Will see
Try Rescan Media
I had the same problem om my GS3, this solved it.
do you have fully synced backup aps running,
try disabling in this case via settings, general, backup&restore the checkbox at backup my data.
That way you probably wont have to disable those services.
I think some app, or this backup settings have gone amuck. Factory reset is last resort, but otherwise clearing cache\app data of backup stuff might help.

What Bachera said. Sounds like you have an app that's eating you alive. Titanium Backup then Factory reset. Don't restore anything until you test your phone, then if all is well add apps one at a time. DON"T restore system data. Good luck!
Actually it's a new phone (and i'm new at Android as well) so I didn't have that much data to backup... I did a rest to factory setting with no backup. It's working for the moment

Android OS causes a lot of mobile data traffic (730 mb per month!!)

Hey guys,
I really have a problem here. For the last few weeks, my S5 is downloading stuff. With the data usage app I could track it down to Android. Last month, it downloaded 730 mb. I only have a 1 gig data plan, so it is really annoying.
Do you have an idea how to solve this?
Cheers,
Sven
Settings > Connections > Data Usage
Scroll down to 'App usage'
Find offending app/service
Tap to open App data usage for that app
Check box that says "Restrict background data"
Repeat for all bad apps using your data
I would have done that, but the app is called Android OS and for this app, the restricted background data option isn't available

Are you sure that the 750 MB are really traffic and are transfered from your provider. I've had a smiliar problem with my N7100 but there the showed traffic wasn't "real" traffic. And my data plan wasn't affected. I had no clue what it finally was.

Android Operating System on my phone is around 5 - 6 MB's per month, this amount of data sounds more like an OTA update, in Settings > System > About Device under Software Updates you do have the WiFi Only option ticked so it wont use your data in relation to any updates just WiFi

Sorry, didn't mention that I use the Phoenix 6.3 ROM.
I already froze the Phoenix OTA, but in About Device, there is no way to chose Wifi only anymore, since Phoenix took over. It just says "your system is up to date".
Could it be a solution to freeze also the OTA of Samsung? If so, where can I find it? What's the apk or process that I need to freeze?

These are the 3 apps that I froze (with Titanium Backup) to prevent Samsung OTA's........
I wasn't sure which one controlled the firmware update so I froze all 3. So far, I haven't seen any loss of functionality as a result (other than not being reminded to upgrade the OS).......
Damn it...I actually thought I found the solution. I defrosted all the apps and it seemed to stop downloading, but it's not. Android OS downloaded so far 679 MB of data this month. Backups are off, no Software updates, no other sync except android-sync for contacts and calendar. But that's USB sync.
Does anybody have an idea what Android OS downloads or how to stop it? There is no restricted background option available.

Auto-close apps.

Hello guys, i have a problem with the Axon 7. When i turn off the screen for a longer period of time(10-15 miuntes) and then turn it on again, i get the massage:" unused apps auto-closed during Screen locking".
It seems like it deletes all cashe from the running apps. For example the video i paused in youtube disapeared in the app. This is pretty annoying. Do you have this issue, too?
I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

Would be very nice to be able to disable this bloody thing!
Maybe you can opt to not have it optimized by the power manager in settings?
Is this exclusive to the US version? Only have used mine for a day but never saw that.
It's an option on the power managment. Disable the second setting under power managment.

ZTE is actually thinking this is a feature. It doesn't activate itself for apps that were installed pre-upgrade, but I installed instagram today and it does by default activate the "clean lockscreen" thing which means that it will close the app. The problem is that for system apps, you cannot change the setting. It's a bad implementation of a useless feature.

That's horrible I feel like that's return-worthy. Are you still within your return period?
I've only had it for 3 days, so I still have 27 days to return it. But I strongly doubt ZTE will keep it that way. Maybe @rikin93 can get ZTE to do something about it.
The RAM Management on the Axon 7 is too aggressive! I've got the european Axon 7 quartz grey model (A2017G, update B03) and whenever the screen is off for longer than approx. 5 minutes most/all apps I had open are auto closed. I've searched all settinigs (maybe I missed something) and did not find a way to disable this behaviour (at least for some apps). It is pretty annoying to wait for apps to relaunch and should not happen on the Axon 7, having 4GB RAM!
My previous OnePlus One has 3GB RAM, did not auto close any app like Chrome anywhere near as aggressive as Axon 7 (some long unused and big apps are still closed relatively soon).
Is there anything I can do or do I have to wait until ZTE decides to change this behaviour on the Axon 7?
