Is anyone else getting this issue?
Recently, my phone has been telling me that my internal storage space is running out. I have hardly anything stored in my internal storage.
I used an app called DiskUsage to find out what was using up the space and I discovered a load of files in the folder called .MyFilesContentSearch. There are several files with the extension .prx that can be up to 3GB each, and some .frq files that can be up to 1GB each. There are also several cfs files measuring just over 400MB each. What on earth is this app doing?
The full path to this folder is /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.samsung.indexservice/files/.MyFilesContentSearch

I know there have been threads complaining about CPU usage, overheating and battery drain related to IndexService, all of which I experience whenever IndexService is running, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue of excess storage space being taken up.
I did try resetting my phone and reformatting my 32gb storage card, but the problem won't go away. Even if I take out my SD card, the folder fills up.
I have seen claims that this has to do with a corrupt pdf file, but I'm not convinced. I deleted all the pdf files that I could find on my device, but the problem remains.
I have found that I can delete the files without any problems, but the folder will just fill up again after a day or two. It's not the end of the world, as I have a spare battery and can close down IndexService and delete the files, but it's an annoyance to have to do this so often.
I know there are things I can do to solve this if I root my phone, but I am not willing to do that just yet, so please don't offer suggestions that require rooting. I intend to send a bug report to Samsung, but before I do that I would like to know if anyone else has this specific issue.
My phone is a UK n9005 from Three and the ROM is XXUDMJ6.
Has this affected anyone here? If so, does anyone know if it gets fixed in later ROM editions?

You might have a file on your phone that crashes the Samsung indexer service.
Get Android assistant or even without it, force close applications you downloaded around the time the problem came out and just see when the problem goes away, since I also think it's something interacting with indexer. Come to think of it why not wipe cache first and if not fixed, factory reset? If factory reset doesn't work I would send it back for repair.

so, i noticed that my 16gb storage card was filling up, and i had no idea why. silly windows 7 won't let you organize folders by size (files yes, folders no), so i couldn't tell what folder what so ginormous. i thought it was either my music or my movies folder, but neither one of those was over 3 gigs.
i picked up a program called tree size off of cnet. it showed me everything.
my nandroid folder was HUGE, because i've been backing up everytime before i do something potentially stupid. the thing was well over 4 gigs.
anyhoo, just a reminder to those of you that use nandroid regularly to go through and delete those older dates you may not use.
this may be common knowledge to most of you, but i wasn't aware.
Oh yeah, this can definitely fill up your SD card rather quickly. I have a folder on my computer and just transfer from backups there every now and then.

Awesome topic, found the nandroid folders in astro and found the backups, deleting them gave me over a gig back... awesome
excellent irony
is that you're...
1 deleting backups
2 using winblows to delete backups, and a GUI @ that
3 not using du -sh
sweet

re: 1 ) i don't need every backup i've ever made. i've made a ton
re: 2 ) i spend half my time on winblows, half my time in linux. but, what i don't know about linux would fill a warehouse, admittedly
re: 3) not everyone is familiar with unix commands
the recommendation i made, and apparently the other one, are both useful utilities for examining folder size, among other things. i would wager most people in here aren't unix wizards, like yourself. but, i may be wrong. i was only trying to help
I have just flashed an EnergyROM having the GTX Sense theme. After flashing, I checked out the task manager, and this is what I saw:

This is what it says when tapping on the 85% icon:
Why is the program memory so low? I have tried searching for other posts regarding this problem, but I couldn't find anything similar.
I would also like to mention the fact that lately, my device has been acting very weird. I leave my place with my HD2 being alright, and after walking for 10-15 minutes, I get it out of my pocket only to see that it is completely shut down (or at least it doesn't respond to any commands). The power/end key does nothing, and the only solution is to reset it via the dedicated button on its back. I have realized that the phone is actually on, but the memory usage is so high that it simply cannot answer to any commands.
PS: Right now it says 88%.
you should install cleanram as it helps free some ram...also get cleartemp as it'll show you what's eating your space up so you can delete them easily...and finally don't forget to soft reset
one more very important thing which saves a LOT of space if you're on stock rom or your cooked rom doesnt have it(highly unlikely) is moving the album cache...read the thread here and look out for 4tune's cab
Edit: i just noticed your total program memory is at 197.91mb but mine is at 336.37mb...thats something to look at as well i think?
hi try try this program this is the trial if works pay for it
is all in one software
You definitely need to check into the amount of total program memory. It should be as damnshah stated - well over 300MB for a 512LEO device.
Perhaps trying re-flashing and see if the amount of program memory is still <200MB.
Have you solved?

I had to flash another ROM, so I decided to go for the GTX themed ChuckyROM. It looks better, feels better, and the memory status says:
Total: 453.6 MB
In use: 184.2 MB
Free: 269.4 MB
Anyhow, the phone is working flawlessly now! Thank you all for your support!
I've gotten this message about three times so far while playing Sims 3:
"Heap 2 out of memory" allocating 40 bytes but only 128 available (36 LFB). Increase icf setting . . ."
Anyone else get anything like that?
Ive gotten this warning several times i have been doin research on how to increase icf setting and it said it was sum advanced stuff and it sed it cood ruin your rom but it wasnt necessarily for the vibrant i think it was more of a computer thing idk but i want to increase memory so i can play more soon

I pretty much can't buy/move anything without this happening so it's rendered the game practically unplayable. Hopefully a dev here can tell us what we need to tweak.
I think the above poster is trying to promote a site, its not even fully up and running, and i see nothing as to a fix for anything on the site, unless someone else see's something I dont

The one thing i have done is every-time i buy something, or move something i save my game, for me it usually happens if it try to buy 3 things in a row, so i now buy, save and buy,save...and when it crashes at-least my last save has the prior thing i bought. Its not a great way to play, but its all i can figure out until someone smarter than me comes up with a fix.
I haven't event installed the game yet so sorry I am of no help. Though I still find it funny that they promote a game that does not work.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA app
App2SD shows I have only 43MB free out of 500MB storage on the EVO 4G, and I've moved all possible apps to the SD card.
The thing is the apps listed in 'phone only' ar enot taking up that much storage, so it must be the OS/data. Is there any way to clear that, or should I finally install a custom ROM?
I have about 75 or so apps installed and still have 240MB free. MIUI itself is about 100MB smaller than Sense ROMs so that helps, plus apps2sd.
lol they didnt expect people to have ten billion apps installed.
Nope...I don't keep apps on my phone that I don't use on a daily basis.
Try this....
If you use Dark Tremors A2SD solution here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116 it will solve your storage dilemma. Just make sure you get a class 6 memory card.
Ha, I filled up my phone within a couple days of when I got it. Went on a bit of an apps install bender.
cl6 16gb, 1gb ext/a2sd partition, this is what titanium backup tells me

Yep same, I was full after a few days as well. I hate apps that cant go on sd.
Freed up a LOT of space by switching to AOSP... Considering how EVERY HTC and Sprint bloatware app was stuck on the internal memory, getting rid of those freed up a lot of space for me.
lol... i hate all the people that downrate apps because they dont go to sd card. Especially all the apps that cant go to the card.. (like flash) because they are a plug in.

you must have literally tons of apps on your phone then.
My phone is stock, no changes other than a few apps have been disabled.
I am getting an unwanted popup after I receive a call. It wants me to install Instagram, or another program. I have scanned with Malwarebytes but it finds no viruses.
Any help in getting rid of this appreciated. Please see the attachment.
Thanks.

Do you have ES File Explorer (think I see it in the background)? Try uninstalling that app and see if the ads persist. ES File Explorer may be presenting adverts and popups.
Thanks, but that did not work. Onto the next guess!
are you using a custom launcher? some of them provide ads on your ohone.. also try removing any apps that are known for showing popups
Chinese apps tend to have overlays like that, especially those cleaning/boosting apps. Get rid of those and see.
When it pops up, do you see anything more in the expanded notification bar? If yes, then press and hold on it and tap on "app info/detail". From there you can see which app is displaying these pop ups and disable notifications.
Thanks, Using ADW. Removed and still there.
Don't have any of those, but good guess.
No way to expand the notification nor any way to get more information. Talked to Motorola support and they had me clean the cache and that did nothing either.
Last case resort, start uninstalling apps one by one with the newest one first. When the pop ups stop, you've found the problem.

Prior to using the last resort method provided by riggerman, you can view how much data/wifi each app is using that is currently installed on your device. This can be done by navigating to network info in your settings. Then simply compare that data to which app is eating up your memory at the time of the pop up. A more in depth method would to use an app that is designed to gather in depth data on installed apps specifically for the user, such an app would be Android Addon Detector available in the Play Store (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.denper.addonsdetector). I wont write up the way to do it cause I don't have that kind of time at the moment, and it'll do you good to teach yourself given the internet and the app FAQ and developers site because knowledge is power, and knowledge also helps to quickly deal with little piece of bull**** that land on your path in life, such as annoying popups
Removed 2 backup apps and seems to have gone away, thanks.
Had the same popup problem. I said STOP in response it has gone away.
