Keep the thread alive and up guys.
Here are some very nice suggestion!
Hello community.
As you all know and see there two different thread
Original Android Development
Android Development
In this two thread you can find different ROMs.
Therefore it is in some cases difficult to distinguish in which thread a ROM have to be. Some DEVs (@ the Android Development) think they are at the wrong place but the Mods doesnt want to move their thread.
Please make here you choice if you want the old subdivision (only Android Development) oder if you like the new one (Original Android Development and Android Development).
It would be nice if you can leave here your reasons for your choice..
Uh quite nice!?

More splitting imo.
Kernels/roms(org/non)/radios/apps/themes
And a stricter policy on tagging threads in the tittle, eg [ROM][KERNEL] etc
Nice idea but i dont think that radios should have an extra thread. They can sty with kernels.
What do you mean with
roms(org/non)

org/non = original/non Samsung or original/non AD?

It is nice not seeing a 'new' rom being posted every two minutes where the only difference is the theme.
Perhaps the section titles could be a little bit clearer, For example: Android Development, and the other section called Themed Roms?
Id like to see even more splitting for ROM+Kernel and Kernel only releases, Its really a PIA sometimes to sort the threads out when your looking for something and it kinda scares off the newbie with a ton load of information and choices presented to him when his just looking for something specific.
Id say have a separate release for ROM+Kernel in 1 subforum and another for kernel only.

I think that tagging is very important, I prefer only one section, but with very stricted thread's TAGGING...
And I think that is very important explain the non-cosmetic changes in every ROM.
Regards!
Exactly, strict tagging, good references as to where the rom was based on, and credits where needed.
One thread.
only one Android Development
One forum for development, one for roms and stuff. I have no interest in reading about the majority of the problems people have in installing a ROM, but would be interested in seeing the technical threads (if we still have technical threads here...)
Merge the Development forums again and require [ROM] and a date in the subject.
Require all [ROM]'s built from another 'original' rom's sources to have [DERIVATIVE] or something like to identify them with a link to the source rom in the thread.
Pull [KERNAL]'s out to a second forum, again require a date.
Create a 'Technical' forum and move all the discussion, speculation and stickies that clutter up the other ROM forums into here.
Create new forum for non-android development (like Backtrack or potential Linux releases).
I would suggest using [KERNEL] instead

Even if they decided to split they shouldn't be partial. Why is villain and darky rom in original development? They both look similar to stock to me with some mods.

Personally, I like the idea of having a forum specifically for new ROMs. I can see the benefit of keeping modifications to ROMs in one forum and the real thing in another.

Not stock kernel for starters on VR and that's the core of it .

I like the idea of keeping photoshop roms separate from true developer roms like CM7.
Seriously, everyone who can use winzip and photoshop can make a rom and publish here, and from the looks of it, they do. It it were up to me, I'd actually not open a separate board, I'd delete them all.
As the creation of two separate dev boards was not motivated by any intention to make the forum easier for the user I'd have to say merge them back please. Seeing how it was motivated by greed and favoritism, indicated by the ROMs placement on one board or the other, I'd say screw this nazi maneuver, get your head out of your asses and realize you're all just tweakers and the ONLY REAL DEVELOPER IS SAMSUNG AND THE CM7 TEAM. So as the two forums are, only stock ROM and CM7 should be in the "real" dev forum. The rest of you take OTHERS work and tweak it (yes make it better etc etc, and we are all grateful for that). But come on you're not some super genius hacker dev here (and YES I appreciate your work and have donated but you are not "original developers"). As stated above this is about a "good ole' boys club", nothing else. Pathetic.

+1... So many stock Samsung roms are still in original development forum. All this is nothing but favoritism.

Basically everything in the original section is made from scratch, while in the android dev section its taken from the original section and modified.
It's more like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219612
So which would you say is better, more well rounded, and less buggy?
Original Development covers the whole spectrum. From barely works to just beautiful. If there are bugs the developer will squash the bugs. Development Forum is likely to have less bugs because they take the already good work and put in their stuffs. But if there is a bug, expect to wait a while for it to be addressed. For a good phone with a lot of awesome developers as the Nexus 4, Original Development is the way to go. If you're just looking for small mods, go to Development.
Thanks for the explanation.
On other question, does anyone know a guide explaining how trebuchet/launcher3 works and how to modified it?
I wanna learn how to code for android and add a few features.
I would love to have a Sony UI on my Nexus 7.
Is there perhaps a ROM that lets me enjoy the Sony tablet UI on my Nexus 7?
I can't just install the Xperia Home apk file.
Sony's UI is the only one I think is better than stock Android as I have now and it would complement my current Sony Xperia S.
I've googled this and I've searched here on XDA for a similar thread but I couldn't find anything of use.
I can't be the only one, can I?
I would really appreciate anyone who could help me out. I'm sure you'll be helping out others too!
It's hard to port only launcher, because these OEM launchers rely heavily on their own framework. You can search around a little, I think (but not sure) that I was some xperia related apps being ported, but I don't know where.

Is it difficult to port the entire Sony UI thingy to the Nexus 7 then?
It's a shame. Sony makes their UI very clean and very elegant. A Sony Nexus 7 would therefore be epic and I presumed it could just be ported as it's simply a skin of Android (or so I had thought).

I don't know if you've realised, but I had already tried searching and I even responded to that thread already.
So unfortunately your reply wasn't of much use to me. The thread even says it's "coming soon" but it was made a while ago.
Use your eyeballs next time please
Then post in an already existing thread rather than making a new one. Read the forum rules. Making threads about the same issue or question is not going to solve anything. Post in one that exist. If it gets a reply, great. If it doesn't, too bad.
Edit - You created this thread almost 2 hours before you wrote in the existing one, which tells me that you in fact did not search for it first, but just made a thread. So don't tell me to "use my eyes" next time.

To the EDIT: I did indeed use the search function before posting this. I just couldn't find anything relevant in the first couple of pages so I guess it would've been easier to just make a new thread. Maybe others who hadn't thought about it might enjoy a Sony UI on their Nexus 7.
Oh and also, this thread is very generally speaking. I'm not just looking for the launcher. Or individual apps. My intention was to find a custom ROM or anything related to the Sony UI to be ported to the Nexus 7. Not just what(ever) was in that link.
Thanks anyway for the attention. This is getting off-topic so I would prefer to see posts of something relevant to my question. Like an actual ROM or something. Maybe even getting a modder as far as to make one himself :victory:
EDIT: Why do you feel the need to correct every tiny mistake I could've made regarding posting rules? My number of posts isn't very high so one would presume I'm new here and I don't know everything there is to this forum yet. A tiny additional note might've been more in place.
I'll try to keep this short. Around 99% of questions have already been asked and answered here on XDA. Chances are if you search hard enough, you'll find it. Rather than taking the lazy route and just creating a new thread, it's generally preferred to do research. That is what XDA is all about - research and development.
While I am not a moderator here, I am an active member, and I try to guide and point people to the right direction as much as I can, in order to keep the forums clean. Because after a while, you too will get sick of seeing people asking the same questions over and over again, even when there are 50+ page threads dedicated to the topic.
Don't take it personally, I am just trying to help. And I did by providing you with a link, pointing to where this discussion should be taking place - in an already ongoing thread.

I agree with that, and yes, I have read enough on these XDA forums that I do get tired of noobs asking the same thing over and over again, but my thread is more of a general question regarding a way to add a Sony UI to the Nexus 7.
And I haven't seen one of these threads yet.
So yeah, if anyone has any idea how to get a full Sony Xperience on the Nexus 7, I'm more than happy to hear about that!
Sv: [Q] Sony Tablet UI on Nexus 7 - is it possible?
Hopefully, Xperia Tablet Z will be more popular, and get a bigger XDA community.
The search feature on the xda app is terrible. I find better results using the website or Google.

100% Agreed.
XDA is getting more and more diluted every single day.
Try this link....it is for sony launcher and widgets but I can confirm it is working fine on n7.
You can change alot of features and icons etc.

I'm sure this question has been asked. I'm getting my nexus 4 tomorrow. I'm moving up from the galaxy nexus. Could someone explain the difference between the original android development thread and the android development thread. I'd appreciate it.
I don't mean to be rude but if you know it's been asked why don't you search for it...someone asked that earlier today of I remember correctly.
Original is based on the developers own ideas and work. And android dev is usually based off other development work that developers use to create their "own".

Hi,
I've had a HTC Incredible S and just got a Google Nexus 4. This phone looks awesome already. I was wondering, what's the difference between 'Android Dev' and 'Original Android Dev'?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Nexus 4 section, @Incredible2011.
I have a little request in the beginning. Kindly, take your future questions to Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
Coming over to your query, here is the answer.
Android Development is a sub-section which comprises of ROMs/Kernels/Mods and tweaks which are not self-compiled or developed, or are usage of some other developer's work. It mostly contains Stock modified/tweaked ROM, Kernels and enormous minimal tweaks.
While, Original Development is a sub-section area where all the actual ROM/Kernel/Mod development goes. Everything that is worked out by the developer himself shall be posted there. You will find all the source compiled ROM/Kernels like CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, Franco's Kernel etc in this section.

Greetings from Spain
Nexus 4 community is getting bigger each day
Its good there are so many new members, just wished people would read and search more themselves instead of asking/posting even the most basic things. Read the stickies and the OP`s of the kernel/rom you want to flash. None the less welcome you all
Thanks all for clearing that up and for the warm welcome. I hope to be helpful in any way I can and hope to learn from you all!
