Hello all! Is there hope for getting a little more memory on the Defy XT556 from USCC? There is a ton of bloatware on it which eats up the 1GB of on board to a mere less than 250Mb right out of the box. Thanks in advance!

there is now a root for the xt556/557 on a republic wireless thread. it works, I rooted my uscc defy xt556 without unlocking the bootloader. that should be coming soon.

This is probably a dumb question, however I cannot find any info to confirm it... My /proc/meminfo file on the phone states that my MemTotal is 195844 kB, but my phone is 1 week old, has the 3.5mm jack and the label on the box matching my phone's IMEI states it's a 1.2. Is the total available memory stupidly hard coded into the ROM or are there 2 versions of the MT3G 1.2?
Every spec I can find states that it should have 288 mB ram. Any ideas?
is it black? does it have a headphone jack? tada you have a My Touch 3g 1.2
Now.. as to if it's rootable or not i dunno. and am currently trying to find that out myself.

yes u have 288 ram it has a 32a board the original mytouch 3g has 192 and is a 32b board... the reason it dosent show all avalible ram is beacuse it wont show amount used by andriod... if you check on a original mt3g is will only show you like 92 ram..

It's rootable. It's a bit of a pain and there are no custom roms for it yet. So no mult-touch, no 5 screens, no tethering, etc.

Thanks guys, I guess it's just a matter of time then...
will there be custom rom's for Mt3g 1.2(newer MT3G with 3.5mm).
Im just not sure which one to get .?? the old one(32b) has more custom roms, but less ROM(192MB?) and the 1.2(32a) has more ROM but less custom rom...

Depends how patient you are.
I would wait because the original MyTouch 3g without the headset jack will be obsolete because the MT3G 1.2 is replacing it. So before you know it there should be more roms for the 1.2 version than the original. Hopefully.
thanks binary the info was appreciated looks like my 1.2 will go back in it's little pouch till they come out with a proper rom for it. i'll just continue to use my red one.
Is there anyways that I can do this? I dont have a memory card in the device but i really wanna do this! please help. Thanks! First post here also! just bought my HD2 today. Hoping to stick around here awhile.
Sorry Buddy, so far there is no image i know of that could simply be flashed onto the HD2, so the answer is No im afraid.
A mem card of 2GB is already enough to start. Should cost you no more then a few bucks.
Hello everyone,
I just bought an ATT Atrix from a guy who "found" it. I have a couple of questions. How do I unlock it to use it on Simple Mobile? I have seen while reading through the forums that you are able to remove the factory "bloatware" , how is this done and will this procedure remove the motoblur? Also, is it true that this phone isnt really a 4g? Will it out-perform my evo? Thanks in advance.
"found"? You just purchased stolen property?

Don't expect anyone here to bottle-feed you this information. There are blur roms, deblurred roms, AT&T roms, cyanogen ROMS, and MIUI now. I know you're just getting started but really, google is your friend. In under 30 seconds I found that the Atrix is not on the list of Simple Mobile's 'approved phones' (Source: http://www.mysimplemobile.com/simple-mobile-phones-approved.aspx)
However, the Atrix radio band operates on the same frequency as Simple, so once it is carrier unlocked that should not be an issue. A carrier unlock requires an unlock code, which can be obtained online for a fee or in some cases, by the carrier itself. Considering how this phone was 'obtained' that's probably not the way to go for you...
Google is your friend on comparing the specs for the Evo vs the Atrix. This information is pretty cut and dry.
Have a nice day!
Hi
Being a novice on android and flashing I have some stupid questions.
I am thinking about bying a used HD2 US to gain the extra ~500 mb space. But can I use the phone in Denmark?
I found a tread some days ago on checking internal memory for bad blocks but now I can't find it. Can anyone help me with a link? I think my HD does have som bad blocks, as it reboots randomly.
I have CoreDroid 3.5 w sense 3.5
Yes, you can use it anywhere as long it's unlocked (sim-free).Link for bad blocks here
Thx for the fast reply and the link
I apologize in advance if this topic has already been approached, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.
My twin brother has been wearing me out to research if there is any mod to remove TMobiles data throttling on his Moto Defy... I currently have a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible and we currently have a flashable zip to remove any throttling...I realize the Incredible is CDMA whereas the Defy is GSM and I'm not sure if tmobile throttles the defy from their end or if its something they enable remotely on the Rom... personally only handled the phone long enough to root it for him ,(he lives about five hours from me), hoping the devs here may know more about the technicalities of the Defy... any help would be greatly appreciated...and if requested I'd be happy to post the Inc. throttleremover.zip after gaining permission from the dev who created it...if the process is similar for the defy, it may be a good starting point...

Not any more, sad to say. It's now throttled on T-Mobile's end. You are out of luck. There used to be a great hack but it no longer works.
