so i'm ditching my G1 because it barely works anymore. apparently theres something wrong with the motherboard and thats why any rom i install fails after a week and makes the phone unusable (even cranogen's rom died on my phone)
anyway i'm hoping to have better luck with the mytouch and with researching lately i've seen all this stuff about the 32a and 32b
As far as rooting goes, to my understanding, i just use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556200
Then toss whatever rom i want on the SD and i'm pretty much good. That right?
From my understanding, the 32B is the T-mobile mytouch and is exactly the same as the g1. which dosn't make me too happy. But if this is true, does it have anymore space for apps or is it the same 70MB bull****?
second question. I love the hero/sense ui and i'd love to use it on the myTouch. So i know the question people hate to hear but if without having to read through hundereds of post i'd like to know which one is the most stable and has the most space for apps. By stable, i mean i can install it and use it for 2-3 months with daily use. And i have about 100Mb of apps on my G1 so i'm looking for a rom with a lot of space.
And last question, If i want to unroot and go to the official 2.0 software when it comes out (doubtful, but i may) are there any guides to go about unrooting, searched but couldn't find anything that was very clear.
Thanks in advance. now if only the phone would hurry up and get here so i can stop using my g1 that has to reboot every 3 hours.

The myTouch has more space for apps, over 100MB, but I don't exactly remember how much. I've had the phone for a week now and it's definitely better than the G1, performance wise.

if you are running cyanogen on your mytouch, you have about 290MB to download apps. Try running Qtek's Hero v1.8, just make sure that you have your three partitions. If you want to upgrade to Eclair (2.0) if and when it comes out, I suggest you wait until a rooted version of the ROM is released because if you just upgrade, you will be without your Superuser access and you will just have to root your phone all over again. But I have had the mytouch since it first came out and I had the G1 before then. It definitely blows the G1 out of the water in terms of performance in my opinion. Though I still use apps2sd, the extra memory was very handy before the phone was able to be rooted. I had about 100 apps on there and I still had plenty of memory left.
thanks for the replies. the 290mb is amazing. I'll probably be running one of the hero roms, and thanks for giving me a recomendation. I just love the sense UI so much.
Glad to hear about the boost in performance as well.
So i take it that the rooting process is just like i said since no one mentioned that. Really looking forward to getting this phone and finally ditching the G1

How to un-root a tmobile MT3G in about 4 minutes. I followed this and it worked perfectly.
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
thank you for that. got it bookmarked now. hopefully getting the phone today. can't wait to get started on it. looks like this will be a much better experience than the g1.
The Post here has a full guide of Rooting/Unrooting and links to a guide for Goldcards. There is another guide for rooting without goldcards but it doesnt show how to unroot or return everything back to stock. Hope this helps.

Quick tip from a Magic user:
Don't update your phone (which will probably come with Cupcake 1.5 as stock) to Donut 1.6 using OTA, if it asks you to. Rooting Donut is a much lengthier process than rooting Cupcake, especially as you're wanting to run a Hero/SenseUI rom.
As you seemed to be hyped about memory, evil D:'s nano SenseUI is apparently a v lightweight version.

I got it used from craigs list so the guy had already updated it to 1.6.
And i saw your posts in the one-touch-root topic. any chance you can explain to me how to get it to work on 1.6?
and thanks for the recommendation for the hero rom.
Relentless Rooter didn't work for me, I used it to access fastboot and then flashed to an Engineering SPL.
As far as I know, an Engineering SPL will let you flash to any ROM using the fastboot > recovery > update.zip method as Engineering SPL allows you to use fastboot with the android sdk.
I'm not really qualified to explain to you 100% what to do, but I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576768
You would just cange the official ION rom with a senseUI rom, i think.

thanks for the link. hopefully everything will go fine for me.
Hey guys, sorry if this turns out to be a topic that's been brutally repeated.
I've been lurking around here for a while, i've tried many roms and from all of them, found that SuperMagic (eugene373's) was quite possibly the fastest in my case. (Thank all the devs for their contributions, you're all amazing!)
Now though i love hero roms, i wanted to see if i could get a magic rom that had senseui, much like our distant 32a cousins.
I've been reading around and the only alternative i see at the moment is by QTeknology's 32b port over. (Which right now doesn't support wifi or bt, hoping that changes)
I'm currently running 1.6 cyan 4.2.5, because i can't get over the speed problems with hero roms.
I was wondering what my fellow mt3g users are doing as an alternative for not having a release from HTC for senseui?
did you fallow the exact specs that Eugene asked people to use like the swap partition and a class 6 sdcard an ext partition on the sdcard... you will most definitely not see a sense/hero ROM that is for the mytouch 3g tmobile phone cause we got screwed with the 32b board which a insignificant amount of ram that is needed for the sense ui to run fast I liked hero_over mt3gv.2 that was what I used to use but phone got stolen so I decided to try 1.6 out and liked it enough to leave it but I fallow the hero builds closely as I plan to switch back over some day
Yup, that's my Achilles' heel, i still have the stock SD card. Yeah. the 32a board having more memory makes the 32b seem like a jib.
I'm doing the same thing, waiting for something to come close. I did try Qtek's port, as i said earlier.
Quite possibly the fastest that i've ran into. If someone can get Wifi working with it, i'll settle for that build or one like it. I hope Someone gets it working!
you can always do hero. it's basically the same thing as senseui. qtek's is one of teh best and the only thing not working is bluetooth.
You sure about that? i flashed it yesterday and wifi wasn't working. it turns on but doesn't connect.

Are you talking about his senseui port, or the actual hero? His 1.8 hero cuz that is what I am running right now. I have wifi connected right now as well.
Oh! Different rom then, hehe. Come to think of it, i haven't tried his Hero rom. Only his port.
I should give it a try. I was getting ready to give it another try and play with the apn settings to see if that was the problem.
Edit: Qteknology Hero (WWE Dump) for G2 Magic-Voda 32B v1.8 Swap <-- This one, right?
Edit again: That was it, i'll give it a try, Thanks for hte heads up, Tazz.

yes. The apn's are not a problem with the wifi. you are going to have to add the apn so you can have your data with this rom, however. He doesn't have the apns set on this rom. So you should right it down if you do not know your apn settings. It'll save you some time.
I just took a look at his apn's conf on the hero rom, it's not in there, haha. I guess i'll just copy them there too. I assumed that they would be in there, but i guess they wouldn't be, this IS a vodafone rom, anyway. Thanks again for the heads up!
You can try Trojan final from Eugene, i havent tried many hero roms but im liking this one, its pretty fast and stable. I used overclockcpu and swapper in combo with it. It works like a charm. I do recommend putting the droid stock 32b over the original image as it will make it less woody and more hero.
anyone else experienced trojan final? im still waiting to hear wich one is fast, trojan or qtek . trojan does have everything working tho..
I've tried both, but on a very temporary basis. They're both pretty fast. But for some reason i still think supermagic was faster than both of them. i think it's probably because it doesn't have the default rosie. I dunno. They're both good, just not the kind of speed i'm looking for. when i pop settings or open the browser, i'd like something that's snappy.
Maybe i'm just too used to cyan mod at this point.
The only other senseui mod that was snappy was qtek's port for magic senseui. That's why i was really hoping wifi would work, but to no avail.

he has bluetooth working, but only if you flash over the 32A radio and recovery image. If people don't know their way around fastboot, they will brick there phone.
I can't even get fastboot to work lol. I'm thinking i have a driver issue. I boot into fastboot, says "fastboot usb" i tried to change the bootscreen menu, all it says when i try to flash over the first image is "waiting for device"
So i figured i wouldn't even mess with customer radios and different board radio/recoveries.
I don't even use BT, so i dont see a need to bother changing over to 32a setup.
Can someone PM me some 32b roms? or where you get them for Mytouch.
I wonder if i use the 32b to 32a radio method eugene has, if i would be able to flash 32a roms (32a rogers sense ui magic rom).

That wouldn't do anything for you. The advantage of 32A is that it has more RAM. 32A ROMs would run slowly on a 32b.
If i'm not mistaken, it requires less memory to run a 32a sense ui rom than a hero rom.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

even if thats true, i dont think either would run acceptably well on 32b. the mytouch came out over a year after the g1 yet tmobile didnt give it any more ram they just made it look different (and added rom but its not even worth mentioning). TMO just put the same turd in a different toilet, the mytouch just doesnt have the ram to handle any type of hero/sense ui.
Im really curious as to how much it costs tmobile to offer 192mb ram as opposed to the 288mb ram the magic has. They better have saved a hell of a lot of money.
I have a mytouch 3G. When I bought the phone it was, from factory, a 32B. I see in the Dev section that development is for 32A only in the Sapphire(MT3G) section. Do I just need to pretend like this is a Dream and use Dream ROMS? And Why?
Most Dream ROMs will work on 32B, so yes - pretend it's a dream. But this section is for 32B as well as 32A.
The difference between the 32A and 32B is the motherboard. 32B have the same motherboard as dream, with less RAM than 32A.

When I bought the phone new from tmobile, the sales person was going through some things on how to use it and how to change things. From there he showed me the where the SD Card and phone memory was located to see what was remaining and how much was used. It said for available memory, as it does now, 272MB Available internal phone storage. I assume that the factory software is taking up some space. Also this is a 32B from the day out of the box. I have done my research here before and after my purchase. I sought out all the info and how to find it on the phone before I did anything.
It must be the newer Tmobile phones (read the thread "who feel jipped"). I believe it is a hybrid (a 32A motherboard with 32B software). Be careful if you decide to root this phone because of their unique SPL and radio. You can find threads on the developer's forum for the fender, which I think is the same thing.

I think this is the internal Flash memory used to store the operating system and other software. This is different from the RAM that has been reduced in the 32B version.

I have had the phone for 6+ months. I have already rooted the phone and recently went back to stock due to the fact the Dream ROMS seem slower than stock and the Sapphire ROMS are 32A ONLY. Kind of a waste for me. Others may benifit but will re-root the phone when some seriously engineered ROMS come available. With the stock setup, Im able to tether and get multiple screens and advanced launchers so I really dont know what the piont is anymore for rooting other than running a different ROM, which IMHO, every one cooked has some sort of glitch or something not working. I give props to all that create, mimic, customize and claim their own but it seems no one can cook one that is 100% working and fast, regardless of claims. Everyone is different and those creating ROMS test them on their own device, then says it is stable. This may be true for them but for others, may not. We will see what comes up.
Edit: Come to think of it... I got the phone about a month after the release date. Had to look at my reciept. Sorry.

32A

32B

Fastboot will not tell you the ROM or RAM Amount.
It has already been said that what you see in the settings is not the free RAM but the free ROM. Actually it is the free space on the data partition and on the myTouch 3G its size is 302848K (~296mb - I don't have one to check but have just come across this page).
If you want to know how much RAM your phone has, you can run "free" or "cat /proc/meminfo" in a shell or install an app from the Market like "Free Memory" which does just that. Both methods will only show you the total available memory though (as some of it is "system reserved").
I really don't understand the problem here. You have a myTouch 3G and fastboot confirms it's a 32B so why wouldn't it be one?

There is no problem really. Im just following along with the conversation. But as to my first post here, Why is it that "Sapphire" has both 32A and B boards but in the Sapphire forums, 32A is the one being developed and leaving us rare ones to load a Dream ROM on the MyTouch (Sapphire). No problem, just a question really. Verstehen Sie?
Because that is how HTC developed the items. In reality, the body is the same but the internals are kind of different. Who knows why? HTC wanted to provide a cheaper product to some of the mobile phone companies, I bet.
I think one of the reasons why 32A may be talked a bit more here is because, as you pointed out, a lot of the development for the Dream also applies to the 32B. So, in reality the 32B has more custom Roms to choose from.
I actually feel that 32A development lacks behind 32B.

not according to the sapphire "MT3G" magic development thread in the last few months. its all 32a. which leaves people like zeroplace and myself having to flash roms developed for g1. which isnt a real issue its the whole a2sd thing really because i find that it REALLY boggs down the device and is useless for MT3G knowing that its has FAR more memory. on that note i had seen a thread on alldroid i think it was from eugene about being able to flash 32a radio on 32b boards. however the link was no longer there which sucks cause im really tired of g1 stuff and need sense so cant go back to "stock" just to blah
Both of the HTC Magic's i have recieved from Vodafone have the 288mb memory inside.
Also tried rooting one of them, changed SPL and loaded Recovery RA and it wouldn't load ANY roms i installed, would just sit on the splash screen for hours.

Mine says 192M (I have read it in /proc/meminfo) and it is 32A in the fastboot screen. Is this the hybrid version? It should be T-Mobile myTouch 3G with the 3.5mm stereo jack.
Hey guys i finally rooted my phone after fightin it for about a good 4 5 hrs and i loaded up jachero rom on it the i have a couple of question about this rom because my apps are from the old version how do i get them to a newer version and second i was talkin on the phone and seems as if my phone volume has gone down since my friend could barely hear me on th other any1 know how to fix it any help is appreciated
Which Hero ROM are you talking about? Your phone model, etc? I suggest you put your phone details in your sig like most people
As for the ROM, I am going to assume it's for 32B model. They are outdated, and you should probably look for better hero ROMs if you wish to use them. Go to the G1 Development section (if you have 32B Magic, then you can use most ROMs made for G1 as well) and find some recent ones.
well yea i have a mt3g 32b it was set on factory 1.6 so i had to bring it to htc magic 1.5 and then put it up to mt3g 1.5 and then root the phone and so which is the most up to date and stable rom that i should get or which one would u recommend and also my signal strength is very low what should i do for that?
I am planning on purchasing an unlocked Telstra model for use on AT&T. I am purchasing this model due to the 3g frequency needed for AT&T being on this model. Thanks, and the only way to unlock the ram is with magldr right?
depends what you want to run, yes magldr will do it for android / wp7, , if you want to run winmo 6.5 with teh unlocked ram then you need a rom thaht has teh hack included, along with a 2.x spl, and a x.x.50 radio.
Dont worry about the ram unlock, it really REALLY makes no difference, and in fact the only place there IS a difference between tmous and regular is under winmo 6.5, since in all other scenarios the tmous and regular both show the same ram, , , 420 meg ram in teh case of android.

Also some sites claim the tmous version is taller and fatter too is this true?
Yea tmous is bigger.
Radios-do some reading and youll diacover that a great radio for me may be terrible for you sat right next to each other. Most people havesettled on 2.(10/11/14/15).50 radios.
My advice - flash 2.15.50 and forget about it untill it becomes a problem.
