Yes, dhd is a great phone and make very good pictures with the right settings.
Check out this thread, there is a lot of informations wich might interest you.

actually, im a little underwhelmed with the photo quality to be honest. Iphone pics and htc one X pics are miles ahead. dont know about the galaxy s2 though. Id suggest just going with the One X anyways if you have the cash for it. The desire HD is an older phone, even though it still does everything right

Lol crap Iphone make good pictures ???
Don't know where yo heard ore seen that because that's not true
I have both phones and the DHD wins miles over the Iphone
( only filming in HD the Iphone wins )
ok tnx guys i will buy it sure
Desire HD is great for taking pics its superior to hero I had before.
Flash is ok.
If you want full camera options you need sense though, ics camera is still buggy on most roms untill htc releases kernel, stock android camera like cyanogen is limited and grainy for my personal experience. Miui is good but limited.

What?? The iPhone 4s is known for taking beautiful pictures... Im no apple fanboy and I stand by android but iPhone 4s clearly takes better pictures than the desire hd. Now the One x(my current baby) blows both out of the water. OP, if you have the $99 for a HTC One X I highly advise it
The DHD camera is great, just make sure you use the stock camera app or the MIUI one.
Here's a few pics I took with it. You can judge yourself. They're not on par with a standard digital camera, but I think they come close. A better photographer would probably get something a little crisper.

These aren't the DHD's full potential, the sun's glare was too much and I couldn't really see my shot until I took it.
You can judge if the camera is good enough for you (Note, this was taken with the Inspire 4g, which should be exactly the same as the DHD in terms of camera)

I made some tests, and for me THE BEST camera app is Camera Pro (Camera X) for NICE Steady photo mode, horizontal level (oh yeaah), and other ... also, considering post #2 link, You can catch better photos.
Also, I noticed, that THE BEST and awesomes Photos & Videos are making in Virtuous Infinity (better, than stock).
Virtuous Infinity uses stock sense camera should be no difference to other sense Roms.

yes you should definitively check my Desire HD camera guide
but to give you a final conclusion
the Desire HD camera can give great clean 8Mpixel results with very little digital processing, however the shutter speed is slow, so patience and a stable hand is required

hi. i wonder how's the picture quality taken from wildfire? i know that it has 5mp camera, but what about the quality? can anyone post a full res pic taken from wildfire here? am planning to get one soon. thanks
Wildfire has the same camera as Desire and Legend and in my opinion the quality of pictures is good.
Here some:

Pictures from my wildfire
Quality is in the middle...but the flash led is very usefull at night ...
thanks for the posts. i guess the picture is not so bad, cause i saw htc magic's picture on the web the other day, and i think it is really good. i'm divided-wildfire or se x10 mini pro. both has good specs, and camera quality for se-very nice.
but i think i'll have wildfire though. thanks guys
Hi mate!
I have a Wildfire and I'm not satisfied of its camera quality(video-photo both). Quality can't be comprared with Desire's. IMO if camera quality is important for you and if you got the money buy a Desire not Wildfire
Here is some of the pics I've taken with wildfire. And btw camera should be the same on wildfire and desire. 5mp 2592*1944 autofocus and led flash.

The camera in Desire and Wildfire is exactly the same. I am telling you this as employee of the camera vendor who sells the camera to HTC.
There might be some difference in post-processing since the Desire has stronger processor. But from what I have seen the quality is the same.
thx for clearing that up And yeb the quality is very decent considering its a camera phone.

Hi there, kinda new to the forum but I've been reading around threads and its very interesting. I got a question regarding the Wildfire camera.. basically quite a number of people both in here and outside the forum are saying that the Wildfire has the same camera as the Desire.
Now the Desire has a 1Ghz processor and more rame, but how can it be that a 512Mhz processor cannot record at least [email protected]? Ok, 720p might be a bit hardcore for this device but VGA resolution is quite resonable. Are there any ways that this might be changed? Maybe with a rooted wildfire? Or a firmware update?
Maybe this is not all too important, but I am very curious about the video quality this phone will record. One thing I have always sacrificed when buying htc (one of the first ones with qwerty, can't recall it's name, the tytn 2 and hero) is the picture and video quality. I am into htc and android for the android fun, not the multimedia, but this time I do not want to have a camera which shoots video and images poorer than a two year old Sony Ericsson or Nokia phone.
So, who is first one up to post, and how soon?
The Desire Z doesn't seem to be getting as much interest as the HD. I can find a video allegedly shot with the HD but nothing for the Z.
If this is anything to go by (and you have to assume that the HD would be the better quality of the two) I think we must resign ourselves to the fact that HTC are not at all hot in the camera / media department!
Shame ...

It is more to Qualcomm than to HTC, since the image quality depends largely on the image processing hardware of Qualcomm chip, and they are not so strong in that department (Samsung and iPhone are doing better there).

I am sure this is true to an extent but surely HTC could invest in better quality sensors and consider the likes of Carl Zeiss optics or similar? This would make a MASSIVE difference and would rely less heavily on post image processing algorithms to achieve passable picture quality.

true, but the g2 720p doesnt look no were near as good as to say galaxy s 720p also very blurry when moving the camera (from the videos ive seen from the g2)
does anyone know if this can be adjusted by software or is it just the hardware that is rubbish?
I actually just noticed the resolution my self. So stupid not to check the quality settings before starting to record.
i would love the desire z to have the quality audio/camera of galaxy s, im in two minds, buy this and put up with the rubbish audio quality/no so good camera or buy the galaxy s?
Have heard of people saying that the galaxy s isn't as good as htc, in terms of the senseui being really good... Also, do you want a hardware keyboard? Galaxy S doesn't have, and I know I wouldn't be able to live without the hardware keyboard...

Hi,
I am considering the Arc to be my next phone but I would like to know about its video capabilities. In nearly all HTC phones, when recording in low light conditions/at night, the camera tries to compensate the lack of light and this tends to make the video lose frames and to be really choppy. Does the Arc perform better and does it skips frames in bad lighting conditions?
Thanks!!
Videos are great on the Arc, I'd say better than on HTC.
Didn't test it on my Arc yet but in youtube are smooth videos from the Arc.

Don't even wonder. Arc is another planet.

HTC Sensation is a class lower compared to Xperia Arc - not only with regard to the camera.

Even mobile-review proves different.
GSMArena has a comparison of the LG Optimus 2X, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 which also features various other handsets at different junctures.
When comparing still image and video capture, they also throw in the Arc for good measure.
Draw your own conclusions.
If u own 1 HTC, then you own all off em because they all look the same. That's why I bought the ARC.
I agree, HTC phones are one class lower than SonyEricsson in terms of build quality, design and phone technology.
By just comparing the phone battery technology, all their phones are still using Lithium Ion Battery while SonyEricsson's phone are using Lithium Polymer and everyone should know that there are more benefits for Lithium Polymer over Lithium Ion Batteries.
Hey thanks for all your replies. I think I'll have to try one at the shop to get a better idea on the device itself before deciding. Still, the camera seems to be the only thing that appeals to me - the screen is a bit small (I've own 4.3 hd2/desire hd and now a 5 inch dell streak). Will definitely have to play with it - still the Arc seems to be a very sexy phone!
Thanks all!
Some of these replies look quite fanboyish.. there's a reason HTC sells so many phones..more than SE atleast
Anyway, add me to the SE fanboy list Until I get bored of Timescape I will stick to SE
There are 2 simple reasons why htc have and still do sell more phones than SE....
1. They've been in the android business since the start..
2. Until now SE's android phones have been relatively poor, and therefore SE had a bad rep.

I've currently got an Xperia Arc and a HTC Desire S. The camera on the Arc is superior to that on the HTC as is video recording. I've actually been a bit shocked by how poor the HTC Desire S camera is for pictures although a friend with the new Sensation says that it has a great camera, he does however qualify that by going on to say it is great "for a HTC camera" which to me, says it all.

Hi,
I have the HTC Desire Z and I would like to get a 2nd phone.
There are only 2 options for me: The Arc or the Desire S. I think both HTC and SE are top manufactures in terms of design and build quality, the rest are just iS**t clones
I like the Desire S because of the uni-body aluminum design, but I think The Arc is nicer. I am a little bit concerned about the quality of the plastic on the Arc's back, an also i don't like the size ( 3,7 seams ideal for me).
I don't care about the camera, but I'm sure SE's is much better.
Htc one again

2. GSMArena always gets devices early, it's been like this for years.
3. The S4 is not zoomed in, the HTC One has a wider lens, hence you see more.
4. The HTC One has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), the S4 has only Digital Image Stabilization at best. That's something that also makes a big difference.
These are all facts. In video, the One wins. But photo's will surely look sharper on the S4."

I find these camera reviews to be so subjective, I've seen the GS4 video on other sites and it looks better than the HTC One. Also the GS4 image stabilization was never that bad, maybe they have it turned off or something and have weird settings. You could tell they were moving the GS4 faster than the HTC One as well...
Like I said these comparisons are bull****.

Didn't Samsung say it had Image Stabilization? I thought I've seen this in several reports too, what's weird is they've said on that site that the GS4 has better low light performance and yet many other sites say otherwise.
I think it's all rather subjective atm to how people set up the settings, I mean if they were both on default it could explain why as my 808 by default has image stabilization off and produces horrible low light pictures and is only 5MP......
It's no good have stuff on default settings, you need to set the camera up to the situation and produce the best pictures the phone allows you.
I'm not buying either of these phones, I'm more inclined to go the HTC One cause it looks nicer, that said I'm not impressed by either of them.
Yeh in fact on the GS4's list of specs for the Camera...

Howdy guys & gals, ever since getting the HTC One I had a lot of requests to put it head 2 head with the Lumia 920 in a video test, to see if the OIS on both are comparable.
Well i finally did it yesterday and managed to get the footage edited and uploaded today.
The HTC One seems to develop a clicking / popping sound every time it is put into Final Cut Pro X, not sure why.
I know this is the HTC One section so most people here will be HTC One fans, but what do you think is better ?
The Lumia seems to take it's time finding the correct lighting and the One seems to have an issue showing the clouds fully without them being fully white.
I'll let you make up your own mind
Both pros and cons.
Htc one lets in more light compared to the lumia. You can see the clouds on the lumia but not on the htc one.
Im going to have to slide with the one. Video is much more stable, more bright, and quality wise its not blurry compared to the lumia.

Another good Video Comparison Sam, the Samsung is just like the Nokia though, quite dark, i still prefer the Ones video. . . i think this will actually be hard to beat on that quality! However, as much as i hate to say this. The S3's audio is better. Its not got as much Base as the One, which i find more realistic. . . But then im not in your car so i dont know how it sounds, does your car sound quite basey? Only you can answer this one my friend lol
audio on the S3 wasn't as good to me... the One cut out the wind/road noise present.
Just showed your video to my wife. She said and I quote " the 920 looks like an old cheap crap phone". She said that HTC One was miles better. Better stabilization, better light. She was well impressed with the One. Thought the 920 was ****.
Hello Sam buddy
To my eyes it appears that it's a matter of exposure.
The 920 seems to be doing a very good job of exposing the sky. It shows very good detail of the clouds, but is under exposing the road. Anytime you go downhill the road is then "lit up" (much brighter) which I assume is because the land is then taking up a much bigger chunk of the overall picture so exposing that part becomes the priority?
The One seems to be the reverse. It is focusing on the road so the sky portion of the image is very over exposed. It is very difficult to see any decent cloud detail but road/foliage looks very natural, bright and clear, if maybe a little washed out.
When going downhill the 920 seems the better picture to me. Better shadow detail, more vivid skies etc.
Not really sure how to end this post. It just leaves me wondering how the Nokia would react to the exact same test on a very bright, sunny day. Would it still focus on the sky and cause even more under exposure of the road?
One last thing.... What happens if the 920 is "aimed" down a little further? I'm guessing it would then concentrate on exposing the land more than the sky?
Too late. Bed
Thanks for the test.
P. S. Apologies for not mentioning stabilisation which is what the test was all about!
