My big bulky phone with the big bulky extended battery dropped to the floor as I got up from my chair, not realising that the usb cord had decided to entangle me. Next thing I know, my precious hd2 is lying on the floor, screen faced down, and the usb cord "ripped".
Everything seemed to be working fine, but when I tried plugging it into my dock, it wouldn't charge, so I tried holding it at angles - it worked, but whenever i let go, it would stop charging.
Does anyone know how to fix this without having to take the whole thing apart?
Sorry friend but you will have to take the phone apart to fix this problem. Might even have to replacecthe mainbosrd as the USB port is attachedcto the mainboard and can not be replaced seperately.

I was really hoping not to hear that .... but ty for the reply, I'm just going to go to the side and sob for a bit because I can't afford to get mobo replaced, I can't afford much right nw.
As a temporary solution you could buy a wall charger and an extra battery off ebay for a couple of bucks, changing and charging batteries on the go works for me!

ty, but I'm worried that it'll get worse in the long term (long being anything over a couple of days), ie. completely stop working, and data transfer? I'd have to use wireless adb to do transferring.
Is it still under warranty? You might get lucky

I looked at the warranty terms and conditions, and it says that anything that has to do with the usb port area will not be considered as being part of the warranty, and I don't have the receipt because I got it 2nd hand. :'(
it could be fixed, but the port must be resoldered to the motherboard. In case some circuit tracks were broken in the incident, they will have to be remade, a good service center could handle it.
Most of them aren't too fond of using real electronic measurements and algorithms in order to track corresponding usb port pins to various points on the motherboard but it's not impossible. If my hd2 would have been damaged in this way i won't hesitate to crack it open and get my hands dirty
If I wanted to, how much do you think I'd be able to sell it for? Thinking of selling it, and mybe getting a used tmous, if I can afford it.
I've managed to find some tmous on sale, so, what do you guys reckon I could sell mine for?
When I broke my first LEO512 by thinking I could repair it, I took the individual components (Case, chassis, motherboard) out and sold them on ebay. I got about £119 in total for it all
You could always sell it for full price and let the buyer find out themselves what's wrong with it.

I'm just too scared that I'll mess it up and just make it even worse, thinking of selling it, getting what I can for it, and getting another second hand.
I have this problem my micro usb port has completely broke, and the circuit lines on the mother board are screwed up, HTC will not touch it
gone the route of a wall charger for now came with another battery for £8 delivered so im happy i can still use my phone, while looking on Evilbay for a new hd2

Finally had the courage to open it, and as you said, the connections are more or less broken off, and I've got shaky hands (without nerves) and can't handle soldering it, so I'm thinking of patching it up with some blue tack

The port on Kindle Fire i believe broke, won't charge and is not recognized by my computer. Amazon is sending me a replacement one and i have to send them mine but i cannot access adb or superoneroot to UNROOT it. What can i do? Battery is less than 9%.

Totally forgot I that app installed. Do you think i need to get rid of anything else? Like Market?
Why don't you just reset to factory, which should wipe it clean?
NOTE: I haven't done this whilst rooted, but pretty sure it gets you back to a pretty clean install. What's the worst that could happen?!
That would totally work i'm sure, i need %40 battery tho and i have under %5 left. I unrooted it and got rid of the apps that use root. Hopefully they don't wanna be assholes about it. They send you a replacement one and you send yours back. I can't imagine they are going to ask for theirs back if they discover mines rooted? Has anyone heard of that happening?

Yeah, figured your battery would be low by now! But if you think about it, if the USB is broken and you run it down to 0%, how are they going to know it's rooted before they send you a new one?!
No but I heard of them charging a fee if something is wrong with the one you send back and it is clearly not something they did wrong but something the user did.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Amazon are pretty great when it comes to returns. They don't tend to ask too many questions, and as it's a hardware failure (or so it would seem), then I think they will look at the return information, plug it in, see it doesn't charge/power up and then send you another one. If there are no signs of visible damage, I think you'll be fine. But, what are your other options right now in any case? You're still in warranty, just take the plunge.
Stupid question time, but I'm presuming that you've tried different cables, stock charger etc.?
Ya. It was charging on the couch and fell a few feet onto the carpet cable first. Bent the charger and bit and I'm assuming damaged the port on the kindle. Tried a few different cords and got nothing.

Are they replacing it under extended warranty or just regular warranty?
just under regular warranty
Shouldn't you be buying a new one? It's not their fault you broke it is it?
a side note
unrelated but may be useful info.
i bought 2 fires at best buy and bought extended accident ins. on both. The representative told me that there was no reason to buy it for both since they "don't keep track of the serial numbers" and "only look to see you have the insurance on one"
I still got it on both just in case there is a V2.0 next year and i have to use it on both. I'm sure more dishonest people could figure out how to game the system.
Got a quick question.
My KF was not working but now it's fine, Amazon already sent me a new KF. If I send my original KF back and use the new one, will they give me a hard time about the original KF not being broke once they receive it?

Did you get the new one yet? Personally, I'd send the new one back to them, and keep your existing one. They *may* give you a hard time about it, if you sent them a working one, but it depends on their returns process, and how closely they are looking at these things.
usb loose already
I got the kindle fire on the 21st,, and yesterday the 26th it stopped charging, kinda. the USB port is loose. I used it a lot in bed watching movies and had it plugged in so I guess it was used a bit more than usual for less than a week and the charing port is broken? Has anyone else had aproblem like this? I'm just afraid this is something that will continue to happen until they stop replacing it. Also my battery takes 6 hours to charge and lasts about 2 with the wifi on and doing stuff. is this normal too? Do I just have a lemon?
Hard to quantify what you are getting compared to others without a real idea of what it is you are doing.
If you are playing games a lot, then yes, the battery will go down faster.
Mine lasts about a day, day 1/2 with normal use. I rarely play games on it though, mostly network surfing/reference etc... with WiFi forced on all the time.
I only charge it when it is getting low and don't top off.
As for the USB plug, if you don't take care, any device will have problems with the USB charging port.
I've had my Kindle Fires since they started shipping. Got it the day they started shipping.

I think you have a lemon. I would call and talk to CS about it. It should last a lot longer than 2 hours. I think it got over 5 hours in video playback tests (streaming video).
As for the OP, Amazon offers an extended warranty that includes accident protection for 50 bucks (I think, might be 40), seems like something you should add. Probably going to add it to all 4 of mine as well. 2 years of not having to worry about it.
Yea I understand all of that, but I'm just onderin if it's an issue that will come up often. I don't really have my own computer at the moment, so I've been using it for music and movies. I had the same thing happen to my cellphones but that was after years and a lot of abuse. But if this happened after only 5 days it will happen again eventually. I'm just wondering if this is an issue all the KF have or maybe i just have a lemon. the port itself was loose in the case when I got it,, but all that play is why it's not working now. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I can get one that isn't loose right off the bat or if they're all a bit loose.
The E-ink kindles are fantastic and don't have this problem at all (and I tend to do more reading when I can't screw around)
I guess i'm just hoping it's a lemon, so I can have another.
Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre after bricking their phone?
Long story short but i flashed the wrong boot animation and completely wiped the phone and despite several attempts to get a ROM on it again (spent days) I was unable to do so so brought it back to the shops where I bought it (was locked to o2 but I got it unlocked)
They sent it to company here called Fonemenders, i got a text today saying it has to be sent for level 3 repairs and mentioned something about the motherboard, now that has scared me a bit, it's bad enough I have to wait another 7 to 10 days but does anyone think I'll get charged given they'll see that it says tampered on it, i fail to see how it could be a problem with the motherboard too.
Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre and what was the process.
Seriously contemplating never flashing anything again on my phone after this nightmare
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I don't have any experience with HTC's repair centers, but I've sent in several rooted Samsung devices and a bricked Asus Transformer for repair. My experience has been that the people in the repair centers really don't give a crap. Relax and hope for the best :good:
Samsung phones are seriously easy to modify compared to HTC, I'm no noob and read extensively on here and followed instructions to a t but still couldnt manage to get a stock or custom ROM back on my phone after that bad flash and me wiping it, no matter what I done.
Feel like I'm missing a limb here have gone over a week without it and now have another week wait, i won't rest easy until I have a fully working phone again.
Hope you are right my friend.

I'm a bit concerned though why they mentioned the motherboard (see attached) there was nothing wrong with the motherboard all that needed to be done is for stock ROM to be flashed back on it.
I'm reading some reports of people being charged a lot when they are informed the motherboard has to be replaced, i should have just sent it into a repair shop in town for €25.
Well the flash ROM is soldered to the motherboard, if it is bricked, it would require a new motherboard.
It's probably not bricked, but in order to maintain your warranty, sometimes they say they must return it in "factory condition", which means unlocked. Which means a new motherboard. That's probably not really true in most cases, but once it's been unlocked, it's possible to overvoltage and overclock, which has the potential, however slight, to cause hardware damage.

I'm very curious to see how HTC will replace the motherboard without causing dents in white polymer or screen damage, as we saw in ifix only with heat and a scalpel can be open the ONE.
Unless HTC repair center have an opening method that we dont know, they should give you a new device.

I will report back anyway, if they come up with obscene charges I'll have to just leave it into a mobile repair shop here, i already went there and they said it would take a week and I thought that was too long but in retrospect I should have just left it with them.

Sorry when I said bricked it's just a term, i could get into recovery and I even relocked the bootloader so i tried all the various commands but i simply could not get anything to work, can't they just flash a ruu.exe for my device, i tried that myself but the ruu.exe in question was not compatible with my phone (earlier version)
What happens in an event that they fix it and then try and charge me and I refuse to pay or is it likely they'll be contact me first to inform me of this, and if i refuse to pay they'll just give me back the phone as it is?
I'm skint and haven't really got the money to pay for repairs, can afford a few quid but not over €100

If they have identified an issue with hardware then thats good for you as you'll get a new device and your flashing has not been identified as they issue..... Your lucky they're doing it under warranty.

Are they the same carrier? If so then I would certainly try. Im quite familiar with the S2 internally, and every other way as well, which maybe a lot different than the S4 but likely not.
What I know about the s2 is it is easy to deal with and the different pieces inside are buttoned together or little snaps is the way I see think of them. I broke a piece once by trying to remove it the wrong way before I realized it was little snaps that joined the mic or vibratot and cameras to the mother board. Have fun. Sounds like you have nothing to loose.

Yes they are the same carrier.
I'll try it and report back. I've watched a few videos on how to remove it and it seems pretty easy. Or at least straight forward.
The answer is yes, yes you can switch the boards. Woot!
yessss
I replaced the motherboard on my bricked hdx 8.9 also had to order a daughterboard as it was borked also.
I tested with the daughterboard from my wife's tablet.
Works like new.
Total cost was about $50 from ifixit
They are out of motherboards but I'm sure you can find one somewhere online.
With the proper tools and watching a few teardown videos on YouTube and some patience it's not a hard job at all really.
Hope this helps those out there that are stuck with a paper weight.
Be gentle removing the screen from the back, there are tabs on top and glue in the middle on each side. Don't just try to pull it apart, go slow and be careful.

You will likely need a daughter board too. Depending on cost it may be less expensive to pick up a used HDX 7 at an auction site. If you decide to repair no one can say if it will work or not as your situation may be different than others.

Mainboards include internal storage. So similar to starting with a new device or whatever the previous owner left behind.
Hmm...is there a way I can pull data off my dead hdx? Looking to get pictures off it.
Device is dead...tried all the soft and hard reboots, with charger, etc...just blank screen.
Trying to get a working hdx 8.9 off ebay for parts. Was thinking to try battery, then daughterboard, then motherboard...but it seems if the motherboard is the culprit, my data is hosed.
Hoping some way to hot wire something...mount it or something to get that data if possible!
Any advice?
Thanks

Identify suitable pad connections is above my pay grade.
Not sure anyone has had any real success with this approach. There was a flurry of activity early looking for boot exploits and ways to recover bricked devices. Also getting power to the USB port for OTG support. AFAIK nothing came from those efforts.

Guess should save some money and accept the loss...will wait for the 2017 models to come out and get one of those.

Thinking of doing something radical.
Do you or if anyone else wants to chime in, know if I get identical motherboard with same internal storage size, could I just swap out the storage chip from the bad motherboard and move it to the working motherboard, or are there other things on the board that would differ that would cause an issue?
Thanks

Little community experience in this area. You would likely be the first to (publicly) travel this path.

whoa! Pressure is on!!!
I'll give it a go in the next week or two.
I already got a working doppelganger device that I will start replacing components to see if anything else is truly defective.
If that doesn't yield any results, I got another scrap kindle off eBay to practice my IC chip removal process. It seems pretty simple and actually quite forgiving.
I will need to maybe get a more fine solder tool...one I got maybe too big of a needle...used it for soldering pipes...also need to get some removal items...but other than that...just need time, steady hand and lots of luck!!
If it is a success, I'll document the process and post it here, if it fails, I'll post as well and state what issues I came across for prosperity sake!
Thanks

Hi... any news on the topic?
Other than that: I also have a bricked and a working HDX 8.9 here. I am wondering if I could just somehow dump the software from the working device and flash it onto the bricked one. Does anybody know how to do this or know if this would be possible somehow?

Unfortunately not possible (or at least practical) on a locked device. Even when unlocked 'bricked' HDXs are not easy to work with.
