Dropped it flat on the glass on a slate floor. Broken glass and display. I'm heartbroken as I have been perfectly happy with this device!
Is it worth it to get it repaired?
If not, what tablet will I be just as happy with?
I really like the 10in format but am looking at the Nexus 7.
Maybe get the TF fixed, and get a nexus to hold me over?
Is there another tablet that has the dev support the Tf 101 does?
I know, a disjointed post but I am not in a good place right now.

I feel your pain, They still make great media players via hdmi without the screen, I got quoted around $250 NZ to get my screen replaced plus $80 NZ labor which is a bit expensive, tf300t is the next tablet ill be getting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT2O-CD9Ga4) as it works out like $50 more then the tf101 brand new youll get all the tf101 functionality plus more (Dev support isn't as numerous but thats to be expected from newer devices)
Its worst feeling in the world seeing your prized tf101 damaged !!
I seriously would have preferred he drop it on his foot and broken a toe or something. It would probably be cheaper.

Is it completely broken? I've dropped mine twice and have some major cracks across the glass but they don't affect things too badly.
Mine was covered on the home insurance but i decided that the excess and hassle wasn't worth it, will save my pennies and upgrade in a year or so
Wow, I would be completely beside myself. If your insurance wont cover it, l suggest getting a refurb. I have one ( bought it from Newegg) and it's perfect. Somehow, I don't think a nexus 7 will take the place of your transformer. I love my Samsung Tab 7.0 +, nice to be able to hold it in 1 hand and great features! But my TF101 HAS the #1 place in my heart.
Best of luck!

The glass is intact but the display is definitely hosed. Some pixels are lit and the back light is working but I can see a large 5in crack through the display itself. $500 deductible on the insurance so it's coming out of pocket. I ordered the Nexus 7 and if I miss the larger screen I may get the TF repaired. Sigh...

That must only apply to the USPS. Mines out for delivery on the UPS truck as we Speak. I'm also thinking I may be into the second batch of N7's so we'll see about the glass issue.
I will return for a quick review though...After it's rooted of course
Ok, so I have had my N7 for 4 days now. Upon opening the box I immediately took the ota update and then rooted it.
None of the flaws I've read about. Only 1 website I frequent uses flash so no big deal there. 7in form fits well.
I'm over the loss of my TF.
Smoothness is awesome!
I would sell you my transformer if its too expensive to fix. I just ordered a Nexus 7 and my wife wants me to sell the transformer so we can buy gutters. Owning a house sucks.

Unboxed my Xoom today. I can't say I don't like it, but there is one thing that really pissed me off. I paid $800 for it, and I knew very well that the price will soon drop but I still bought it. I thought I would be treated with great surprises. But the moment I opened the box, I found that there's NOTHING wrapping my Xoom. Yes, there's a plastic sheet protecting the screen, but it's covered with fingerprints (and dusts.) I am not even asking for a fancy velvet bag. Just put that damn thing inside a plastic bag, please. It costs Motorola, may be 2 cents?
Oh, and the box's cover wasn't even taped (and it's very loose.) Motorola has a lot to learn when it comes to packaging.
Anyway, this tablet is still by far the best tablet experience one would get for the Android platform.
Agreed.
Fancy light table BTW.
Mine was practically hanging out of the box when I got it.

ahahahh
I was thinking the same
Motorola should've taken down notes from Apple. Apple does pay a great deal of attention to packaging. I love how Apple packages products.
I agree. The day the Xoom launched, I was the first to come in without pre-sale receipt along with another dude who has already preordered online with his receipt, I was exciting but until I saw the Xoom... my face actually dropped when I saw a Verizon representative (inside Best Buy) bringing the Xoom out and it wasn't sealed. I like opening sealed things. What the heck.
I'm with ya.
When I bought my $30,000 car, it didn't have a cover either, pissed me off.
(sorry, couldn't help it, a few goodies in the box always adds to the experience)
I agree with the not taping the box closed, but I take it you've never bought an apple product? They are continually praised for thier packaging which is almost exactly like the Xoom was packaged.
I'm fine with it as the entire thing was wrapped in plastic already if you didn't notice.
Sounds a bit dodgey to me,usually most new mobile phones and tablets have a seal on the box,and on the seal are the words DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN. How do you know someone's not been having a quick play with it and then done a factory reset.

Man the HTC Evo package was ****ty. Minimalist, yes, but it looked like a tuppaware box (however you spell it).
I was surprised the Xoom boxes weren't even taped either. And since they had to look at the number on the back of the Xoom Best Buy totally killed the unboxing experience for me.
My gf thought I was a total nerd for thinking about doing an unboxing video, but after the unboxing cherry was popped, there was a TINY bit less of excitement.

I've asked around, from what I can tell, this is only partially true. What I know so far is that the Xoom from Costco were all wrapped in plastic (the whole box with Motorola's sticker on the plastic wrap), but those from Best Buy were not. I also checked with someone who work in Best Buy and he told me that they didn't take the wrap out. The Xoom arrived unwrapped.

I know someone who bought one from a BestBuy and there's a picture of a sales clerk in the gallery when he logged into his Xoom.
Consider how "beta-like" Honeycomb is still. I wonder all these unsealed packaging + fingerprints-all-over are results of some last minute firmware upgrade?
Seeing how the Xoom was launched during CES with hardware ready, but only had video of the UI looping without the real software. I believe most Xoom that are currently selling were manufactured around that time. Just sat there waiting for Google to provide the latest firmwares...
Went to pick it up and the case was open and it fell on my wood floor grrrr...anyone have this happen to them and get the screen replaced before? How much did it cost??

Check your household insurance for "portable item" cover clauses as we got stung by this when trying to claim for our laptop. Depending on if you have a big excess and taking into consideration premium increase it might be worth while just looking for a used unit on ebay that you can get an origional receipt with (for a local retailer obviously). My three yo knocked mine off a table, 24", on day 3 and broke the glass. I called Amazon and they offered me a replacement for $100. I figured it was a decent deal considering the amount of time it would take me to procure replacement glass and to tear apart/put together the device.

Its like the warranty on my pelican case, covers everything except shark bites, bear attacks, and children under 5.
Amazon will sell you the Square Tade 2 year warranty for $45 and you get 3 replacements during the term. Obivously you don't tell them the screen is already shattered when you call in to order it. Co-workers 5 year old brother got one for chirstmas and broke the screen 3 days later. She bought the warranty about two weeks ago and made the claim this week and Amazon overnighted her a new Kindle.

I think 2-4 year old kids are one of nature's most destructive forces. Imagine if they somehow organized and decided to focus that power!
As Toonakan said, Amazon offered a replacement for $100. Half the price of new seemed a bit steep to me. There are some 3rd party repair places but they are all about $130. Ebay has some parts for about $50 - $70. I will probably just go with that if I can find a seller that looks trustworthy. I have replaced screens on a few phones and gaming systems over the years, so I am not too worried about doing it myself.
The problem with a less expensive device, is repair costs seem a lot more expensive relative to the initial purchase price.
I ordered a device from Currys UK last week however it had the screen raise issue so I got a refund on it.
Decided to order with Tesco for collection @ store tomorrow. I'm just wondering has anyone had one from Tesco and the device has been totally perfect?
Cheers

You have no screen separation at all?
I received my nexus from Tesco on Saturday morning and can say mine is perfect. Checked all the "common" issues and my device shows no signs of them! I hope yours is the same!
The only issue I had was the cancellation of my first order due to stock running out...glad I ordered again the day after, I love it
I got mine last friday. I have one dead pixel I noticed today. I did notice a slight screen seperation too but that wasn't a big deal.
The dead pixel however, is annoying. I may return it for a new one.
I ordered from Tesco and have screen separation (screen lifted on the left side and make clicking noise). Which for some strange reason seems to have sorted itself since I pushed it back down after watching a movie. But i still rang, they have a replacement coming for me tomorrow and I simply give the courier my old device.

I think i will be ordering from Tesco instead of PC World/currys if the standard of their units seems to be good. I will be ordering from Tesco Direct though, too lazy to go and get it
Just received my replacement and it has screen lift straight out the box. Also the courier said he didn't have to paper work to take my old device back . So now I have 2 devices both with manufacturing errors, time to ring up Tesco again
Picked up my 7 yesterday. One very happy owner.
No dead pixels whatsoever.
No screen lift, but if I press really hard on left side,a very slight creak is heard.
I didn't even notice it until I tried to press on the left side.
Don't think it will be a problem but,if it gets worse,I'll use my 12 month guarantee.
Two issues...
-Faint ghosting, not as bad as some people have had though.
-Screen lift, but it's a tiny amount.
In both cases I can cope with how it is right now, but am concerned one or the other will get worse. Obviously returns are easier in the first 28 days due to the no quibble returns policy.
Maybe I should just be happy that everything else appears to work.
Lg sent my nexus 4 back from repair. They were supposed to replace the screen but never did. Upon receiving the package I noticed those expletives didn't even put the screws back! There are just holes in the bottom. I called to complain but it seems my only option is to send it back in. I don't want those people anywhere near my phone again.
I tried finding the screws online but no real luck. I've no clue as to their exact spec. Only know they are t5 5.2mm torx screws. Can someone help me out? Any ideas where to get a couple... Or have a broken phone they want to sell the screws?

Wow... lots of hate. I want the phone, so that's why I have so many RMA's. I wanted the cycle to end so I sent it for repair instead. phone came back with no work done but missing the screws on the bottom. Call it karma if you want, but if you think I like going through the play store and dealing with them and their issues and shipping phones back and receiving "new" phones with glue spots, scratched screens, and dead pixels then I must just be a masochist. Am I picky? Sure I am, but other than the phone that would heat up like crazy and reboot multiple times per day despite factory reset, reflashing stock image, etc, all of the issues were screen related. You spend the vast majority of the time on the phone looking at a screen. Plus, this is a nexus... refund... what else is there out there for new hardware, unlocked, stock, etc? I would have paid $700 outright for the thing if google was charging that much, but I expect the phone to have a screen that's defect free.
This isn't something new with nexus/play store devices. Check out the threads on the Nexus 10 regarding screen, and case issues and the exchanges. People are getting devices marked as new with broken seals. I've found with every Nexus (except the Galaxy Nexus) I've purchased, if you get a great one from the start then awesome. However, if you happen to get a dud, you will spend some time trying to get one that's defect free through the RMA process.
For the few that posted some links, thanks, but though they are torx screws of the approximate size, they aren't the exact screws. Seems no one save for the manufacturer sells these. After about 3 hours on the phone in total with LG, they are supposed to send me 2 but they said it would take 9 days to ship. I guess they have to order it from Korea.
I had and lg g2x that I replaced about 6 times before I gave up. I was not being picky, the phones were not functioning correctly. You pay for a defect free device so expect one. At least you are getting the screws sent.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I guess you just got screwed by LG - pun totally intended  Sorry, it just had to be said.
On that note, rather than RMA'ing my N4 for a defective screen (well, it sure cracked pretty easily!), I just ordered a replacement front assembly and intend to do the repair myself. Hopefully it arrives this week, because I really miss my Nexus!! If I was planning on spending $600 on a phone, I would've went with an Optimus G or Xperia Z, but I figured I could save a few bucks by going Nexus, and the developer support around here is bar-none! Alas, with this replacement screen, I spent that much anyway... Still ticked off about it, but what can ya do...
So, since it's been a couple months, how about a status update. Did you get the screws? Another device? Are you happy yet? Please, do share.
I'm pretty sure he got the screws from the last time I talked to him.
And to those hating on him are u kidding me. He paid for a fully functional phone and that's what he deserved. He did nothing that I wouldn't have done and he had some pretty defective phones trust me. So before judging know the whole story because like someone said on this thread "karmas a b*tch".

Jayrod wasn't and isn't being picky, I've seen pics of the defective n4's and let me tell you, they were very defective! It happens, he didn't want to keep playing the rma game, but he paid for a defective free device. None of the phones he was sent I would keep if they were given to me. Nobody likes to have money on their credit cards tied up, do you know how much money was on hold for those devices? A lot. Not that he cared about that, but keep that in mind when making remarks. These phones weren't sent to him without some sort of hold. Who would go through that for something miniscule?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, I completely agree with those statements. I'd hate to be in a situation like that, especially considering my "credit card" is actually a debit card with Visa, so those "holds" would be on my real money. It's bad enough I barely went 5 days with my Nexus before the screen broke, but to RMA a device 5 times is a little ridiculous - not necessarily for Jayrod's part, but the fact that he's had so many problems for something he should have had defect-free in the first place. After the first 2 RMA's, someone at Google and/or LG should have personally inspected the third device to absolutely be sure with 110% certainty that it was perfect. OK, so I made a little joke earlier, but I really do feel for the guy. The quality control issues have been nuts, and hearing stories like this makes me wish he would just be given a free N4 just for all the trouble! For all that and then getting back an unfixed phone with missing screws is just unforgivable. I could understand his frustration and just wanting what he paid good money for! Which is why I now hope he's finally got a good one.
