h well it doesn't, apps haven't started to filter in to Win 8 yet given its a beta still, but I suspect once we start hitting the RCs we will see the app store getting larger with such apps, just now you need to remember that there are not many Win 7 tablets with GPS so demand is not high for your needs just yet.
Try using google earth - it works with GPS
I know this is a stretch but why not use the metro bing maps app. It does support location services.

Hello there, today I wanted to use RunKeeper or the MyTracks app from google, but they don't seem to be working, I get waiting for GPS signal and nothing..whereas when I open the google maps app, it seems to work normally.
Android v. 2.2.2, I'm sure gps is enabled for all apps.
Anyone having aame problem?
Bump.

Try downloading the app "GPS Test" from the play store, and after you open RunKeeper, open GPS Test, wait for a lock. I don't use RunKeeper, but whenever my phone can't get a lock for no obvious reason, opening the GPS Test does the trick. Has saved me countless times.
I am travelling to a new country soon, and want to save map of tht city for offline viewing, but I simply cant seem to see that option anymore.
Please guide me, using latest updated version of Google Map.
PS: Is this option taken out ? Any alternatives ?
Maybe a Google search ?

Or get an alternative app?
Personally I like MapsWithMe. It doesn't run on Google Maps but on OpenStreetMap.org, which means it's quite a lot more accurate and extensive. (Even lists benches and power lines.) Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip - never heard of it before, just tried it and it's excellent - time to ditch CoPilot
I've used RMaps which you can download a city map to something daft like 3 feet, viewable offline, multiple map scales so you can zoom in/out offline, download via wifi, cached/downloaded maps saved to SDCard, GPS tracker and multiple maps to choose from including Google, Ordinance Survey Maps + more....
I use this before I run Google and can have clear street view before I've set foot out of the door

I use navigator. It doesn't need a data connection because you download maps either paid or free (I use the free ones and they are fine). I found even when Google maps let you download a map you still couldn't navigate on it without a data connection anyway. Which made it kind of pointless.

I just made a search in Google play for apps suggested above "RMaps" and "Navigator" and I am not able to find app as such on the play store.... ?

I tried it and it looks nice but it is not for voice guided navigation
Search for MapFactor: GPS Navigation in play store for Navigator.

Unless the DEV removed Rmaps maybe (I'm sure I downloaded it from play store") well here's a link to his blog

I have tried all maps mentioned here, but none of them are as smooth and easy to understand as Google maps. Most of them are slow and laggy and also take forever to load location names and details.
Now I would be stuck without wifi and now wonder what to do....
Google maps regularly closes during navigation, it's not a force close, it just disappears. I have made sure it's protected, I have tried clearing data and cache of Google maps. The version is 9.16.2. I'm on B200, on the GRA-L09.
Does this happen to anyone else?

I have this problem too (i'm on b200). Maps doesn't appear in the protected app list.
Note that similar issues occurred for background apps (wallpaper auto changer, calendar widget, etc.) and i've fixed them using performance mode in power saving settings instead of smart/intelligent.
MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk
I am on b200 aswell and gad the same problem.
I need maps and google navigation at work so this wasnt acceptable for me.
I rooted my mobile and deinstalleted google maps completly.
Then iinstalled maps in the version 6.14 ,which I prefer much more.
I installes by this app ( MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk ).
Since then no crash or closing anymore

I have flashed the fromfuture but haven't had the opportunity to test the navigation properly yet. I will report back. If it doesn't help I will try the solution suggested above.
I still have the same problem with the fromfuture rom. Not really sure what to do, I may have to roll back to an earlier rom and just live with that.
