Hello there, today I wanted to use RunKeeper or the MyTracks app from google, but they don't seem to be working, I get waiting for GPS signal and nothing..whereas when I open the google maps app, it seems to work normally.
Android v. 2.2.2, I'm sure gps is enabled for all apps.
Anyone having aame problem?

Try downloading the app "GPS Test" from the play store, and after you open RunKeeper, open GPS Test, wait for a lock. I don't use RunKeeper, but whenever my phone can't get a lock for no obvious reason, opening the GPS Test does the trick. Has saved me countless times.

Hi,
I am using Navigon as satnav app. All seems to run quite smooth, except that on the latest version Navigon seems to only work when internet (WiFi or 3g) is on. If not it will not run app an crash wit error...

it should run without data connection or 3g. be sure you have the latest update and try to clear app data or even reinstall it.

Hi No ideas on that app, try "Nav Free" from the app market, works like a dream on my Desire, free use, Free maps, free voices. The only thing you need is wifi or data to down load maps (once) then when using it just switch on your GPS. I also have the "faster GPS" which makes location very quick

HI,
i have an other problem with Navigon select. I cannot install it. I know i had it installed and i think it was Runnymede by Seb. But than i updated to Android 4 and some other ROMs and Navigon told me not being compatible. now i'm back at Runnymede and it isn't compatible at all. Can someone tell me what Navigon needs to run on a phone. My Phone is from telecom so i normaly can download navigon select for free.
I hope you can help me. If it's only the Android Version that's not compatible i would change my build.prop a little bit and try if it is running
try rather Sygic - I think it is the best one out there. Theres no speed problems, or anything else, it runs just great

What's with APK's being dumped to sites like multiupload that force you to install "Download Managemenst" software. Smells of malware.
Installed drive link but the weather is blank it says to enable locagion services and data services which are enabled

Same here.
AFAIK the app has been released in the UK. Cant find the logic but it might only work there for now.
Or maybe only on UK based roms.

I'm in the UK and have the same issue. I suspect that its a bug at the moment judging by the comments on the samsung app page :
http://www.samsungapps.com/topApps/topAppsDetail.as?productId=G00008708915&isCommentCall=Y#
Its new software so its probably work in progress still as there seems to be limited features at the moment.
BTW, has anyone tried Sat Nav software other than Goole Navigator yet? e.g. CoPilot? Does it work?

no options to chose igo....yet
CM10
It installs and works fine on the latest CM10 release. Seems it doesn't need Touchwiz to function properly
Been testing it and so far Navigation supposed to work with Google Navigation and TelNav I'm currently on a country not supported by both but it recognises them
Also shortcuts aren't working as I thought so, Twitter isn't any where go find even after I added my account just Facebook messages

I bought this phone specifically for the MirrorLink capability. Thanks for posting the apk. I'm going to try to sync it with my car on my way home.
Anyone know why they didn't make the app available in the US?
they just released update for this app, i hope they fixed the screen timing out issue and running in the background draining battery issue

Thanks for the info. Looks like the screen time out issue is fixed. Can't see much else new. Wish they would post a changelog with each release. Anyone know if any other Sat Nav Apps are supported yet other than the default Navigator?
Anybody have the latest APK for us USA users?
at the moment it's buggy.
confirmed on my device:
- screen won't turn off some times while installed (not even started). solved uninstalling
- overheating and higher battery usage while installed (think solved uninstalling)
one question: someone did test it with mirrorlink car monitor? i really wanted to buy one, (sony)
but i want to know if you can manage only the drivelink screen or also other applications..
if only the drivelink it's not really interesting...!

I have an Alpine ICS-X8 app link station which uses Mirrorlink from the GS3. Currently the only applications that are supported at the moment are the ones in drive link. i.e. Google Navigator Sat Nav, and Internet Radio apps TuneIn and Radioclock App. More app support should hopefully be coming.
Currently the Nokia Drive supports MirrorLink the best. It lets you run just about every application from the phone using a feature called "MirrorMode". Here's a demo on youtube showing Angry Birds running on the car dash headunit via Nokia phone....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCDuwXJ3zcg
Samsung need to pull their finger out of their arse as DriveLink sucks at the moment compared to the Nokia Drive offering.
Samsung DriveLink I would class as Alpha software at this stage, as it has so many problems and limited features.

Maps killing my battery

Google maps is killing my battery.
I am running 4.2.2 stock. I noticed this yesterday and killed the app, deleted its cache and data and never launched it, but today it's done the same! I do not use Google Now.
Anyway I can stop this?

Yep, Maps does that. How to stop it from draining? Uninstall maps.
you can disable it

I think a lot of google services (location) uses maps... Maybe even the new google now. Anyhow go into settings in google maps and turn all of the settings off, especially "location history". Make sure android's settings for location access is turned off. When you reboot, maps should run a lot less if ever. Hasn't come up for me since I did it this morning when I first read your message. No need to uninstall it (might get system errors).
You might loose a lot of services if you do it on a mobile device.
It does run a lot, but you can get more battery by having your screen turn off sooner or not as bright, even not using live wallpaper. I use maps and location services too much to consider turning it off.
Hope that helps some.
Good advice. Using Better Battery Stats, I traced a lot of apps which also cue up Maps. You think its only Maps, but some apps go there to find you & your location. Your basic battery use app will show only Maps as the culprit, but look closer & it's other apps asking it for your whereabouts! Facebook is one of the all time worst. It had so many other privacy issues I deleted my account. Google + & Google Now will also use battery thru Maps finding you. Turn off any apps location service via its individual settings if you want individual control. Or, just deny all of them via main settings.

Cheers guys. I have restricted a few of them now. Strangely my HTC one X does not have the same issues despite running similar apps.

Hi jotakx,
From memory, the solution is very easy.
I had a similar problem in a different handset (now broken).
You would have to enable Location somewhere in Google Now.
This will allow you to use the GPS in Google Apps.
Note that by doing this, anonymous data may be sent to Google.
Thanks,
neiljain

I try enabled all option from google, allowing access for everything, installing google search to get google now to enable location options but nothing solve the situation.
I found this
]h**p://dottech.org/94020/how-to-fix-please-enable-google-apps-location-error-in-google-maps-and-google-now-on-android/
thanks to your reply but in setting there is no option for me to "Let Google apps access your location " and my version is 4.1.2 JB Sevenrock mod based on Quarks. And the message “Please enable Google apps location access” never appers to me.
I will try it once again.
Thanks in advance
Works again!!!
After update gapps to 2012224 version without voice the option allowing googles apps gps usage appears and then everythong goes smoothly.
Thanks

[Q] GPS icon?

Dear members,
Since I installed kk the GPS icon is always present in the notification bar (see picture). Is this normal? If not, what can I do about it too get rid of it? I already tried disabling location services but that doesn't work.

I also have this problem with the 4.4.2 update. Even turning location services off doesn't remove the icon. The only way I've found - apart from a restart - is to launch a Google app which invokes GPS (such as Google Maps) and then close it.
I've seen this too, running C-RoM. Doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, I reboot to clear it. No idea what causes it, although I have a gut feeling it correlates with Maps usage.
