Navigon application - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi,
I am using Navigon as satnav app. All seems to run quite smooth, except that on the latest version Navigon seems to only work when internet (WiFi or 3g) is on. If not it will not run app an crash wit error...
Any ideas

it should run without data connection or 3g. be sure you have the latest update and try to clear app data or even reinstall it.

Hi No ideas on that app, try "Nav Free" from the app market, works like a dream on my Desire, free use, Free maps, free voices. The only thing you need is wifi or data to down load maps (once) then when using it just switch on your GPS. I also have the "faster GPS" which makes location very quick
TTFn

HI,
i have an other problem with Navigon select. I cannot install it. I know i had it installed and i think it was Runnymede by Seb. But than i updated to Android 4 and some other ROMs and Navigon told me not being compatible. now i'm back at Runnymede and it isn't compatible at all. Can someone tell me what Navigon needs to run on a phone. My Phone is from telecom so i normaly can download navigon select for free.
I hope you can help me. If it's only the Android Version that's not compatible i would change my build.prop a little bit and try if it is running

try rather Sygic - I think it is the best one out there. Theres no speed problems, or anything else, it runs just great

GPS Application for Australia

Does anyone know what i should get in terms of a GPS application for my Desire with a compatible map of Australia?
I'm looking at copilot, but the site hosting it seems to be down 24/7 :\ so i dont know what to do!
I've got the NZ/Aus Copilot over here in Auckland, works fine. No need for the website, get it from the Market.
Try AndNav2 or any OpenStreetMap based application.
Sygic works fine for me in Australia.

You running it on Android 2.1? ...and is it Mobile Maps 10? It wont let me open it on my Desire
Why not keep it 'in house' xda stye and try this -

It sweet for me. I just got my desire 2 days ago and used to use tomtom on my diamond before. The interface is a bit rougher than TT, but its got street view and is the work of one of our own..
EDIT: After reading a few comment's it seems that Google Maps GPS runs down the battery and has a horrible lag, So I installed Sygic Mobile Maps 10 and yes, it works. I haven't tested it out on the road yet.

Yes, Sygic Mobile Maps 10, latest version. Runs fine and works as expected on stock Desire but is a bit odd to use as it has it's own way to navigate around the screen. (You have to use forward/back buttons on the screen, hard back button does nothing,...).
GPS for Aussies
Mate,
Go for CoPilot. Works well for me on Desire. Got Aus Map and RSA too (world cup). Directions are spot on. No need for a constant connection while travelling. Although I noticed that GPS fixes WAY faster with wifi/3G is on. There are some websites that have a hacked free version from google results, but I personally chose to buy it.
Good app!!

I've decided to go with Sygic. It works wonderfully - except for the fact it thinks my home address is 5.2km in the wrong direction.... smeh, hopefully that's the only address it stuffs up with hahaha. I wish TT would get their act together. I'm too used to its functionality and UI.

[Q] TomTom under Android on HD2?

Simple question really - does it work? Do I use the same .cab files I used under Windows, or are there separate android-specific ones?
Thanks!
Android is a completely different os... you can't run winmo apps with android. You'd have to find an android version of tomtom... I'm not sure if there is one. You could always boot into winmo to use tomtom, though. That's the beauty of having both OS's on one phone... it increases the variety of apps you can run on it.

Try the free navigation app that is installed with google maps. I used TomTom and then moved to CoPilot (both on winmo), then moved to Android and started using CoPilot on that as well. Then I gave the free navigation app a go one day and I've never used anything else since.
Google's Navigation App. is awesome!
The text-to-speech is pretty good, But its funny when it says words incorrectly (street names for example)
Wouldn't want anything else to be honest
Given the flakiness of TomTom and their Gestapo-like user restrictions that is not a half-bad idea. Will have a look - is it easy to find?

[Q] Which GPS app are u using?

As the tittle says which gps app are u using for ur hd2 running android? I've searched around but i couldn't decide which one will be ok for an hd2.
Also, google maps is 100% offline on android right? Is it any good to use?
I live in Greece so i need an app that has maps there.
thx in advance
I'm using Sygic Aura and it's just awesome. Much like TomTom for WM. You can get trial version from Market.
I am using CoPilot but not sure if it's available for Greece currently. It costs me $5 and you can download all the maps you need via WIFI (due to size) for free.
Google navi is ok but drains battery faster than CoPilot for instance.
Also, Google can work off data only if you cashed maps out already and they are stored in your phone.
thx for your replies guys
i just downloaded sygic aura from the market and the greek maps but i cant seem to find any satellites. Do i have to do something else before using the app (apart from turning the GPS on, duh ), something like QuickGPS in Winmo? How long does it take to find a satellite?
I'm using Sygic Aura with cotullas Rom no issues, i guess you might have a problem due to the gingerbread gps drop issue....
I'm using Navigon. Didn't like Sygic Aura too much...
Just my 2c...
I'm in Australia and was using CoPilot whch wasn't too bad but a bit laggy and took ages to get a satellite signal.
Swapped to a RAM build and as a matter of course thought i'd try out iGO 8.4 which seems to be much smoother, quicker to load and quicker to acquire a signal than CoPilot.
As a matter of interest I was using Navigon on my last phone (iPhone 3G) and it was the best of the lot but probably becuase it used Sensis maps (i think, or was that another GPS???). Either way, I remember Navigon being good and Sensis maps being good too.
They all seem to have free trial periods so why not give them all a go and see which works best for you? Or you can always go the APKTOR route ;-)
I use google maps and google navogation.
Used it driving from katy, tx to hollywood, fl about 20hrs drive. No issues whatsoever.

[Q] Offline GPS Navigation App

Anyone know if such a program exists and specifically for car navigation (unlike the offroad one currently on the market)? Kinda like Microsoft Streets & Trips but for Android. I am hoping to use my Xoom as a offline GPS since it is Wifi only model.
There are several. The cheapest is CoPilot. I have it as a backup for when I don't have data. The US only version is normally $4.99 (but I got it on sale for $2.99). I find it OK, but I prefer Google Maps Navigation.
Another is Navigon (it's quite a bit more expensive). A market seach should turn up some more.
Don't forget that Google Maps Navigation will cache the map and route for you . So you can start Navigating while you are in a WiFi hotspot and it will cache all of the maps to finish your navigation. Of course, if you get too far off route then you will have a problem.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm worried about. I need this to be a 100% offline app with full stored maps. Also obviously to be compatible with the Xoom.
which phone do you have, you could enable your wifi hotspot using your 3G network. (I do it on my desire Z/G2)

I have a Blackberry and has no option for Wifi or Bluetooth tethering. I can only do Dial-Up Networking but android doesn't support it as a client.
Have you tried Aura Sygic? if it works on XOOM and Honeycomb?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sygic.aura&feature=search_result
And you can find it for free on a site for Pirates.

I used Sygic back when I had a WinMo. Was a good app. I'll check this out.
Found several apps:
Aura GPS Navigation
MobileNavigator USA
Locus Free
CoPilot Live USA
NavDroyd
Anyone try any of these and know which works with the Xoom?

Try downloading the app "GPS Test" from the play store, and after you open RunKeeper, open GPS Test, wait for a lock. I don't use RunKeeper, but whenever my phone can't get a lock for no obvious reason, opening the GPS Test does the trick. Has saved me countless times.
