[Q] TomTom under Android on HD2? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Simple question really - does it work? Do I use the same .cab files I used under Windows, or are there separate android-specific ones?
Thanks!

Android is a completely different os... you can't run winmo apps with android. You'd have to find an android version of tomtom... I'm not sure if there is one. You could always boot into winmo to use tomtom, though. That's the beauty of having both OS's on one phone... it increases the variety of apps you can run on it.

Try the free navigation app that is installed with google maps. I used TomTom and then moved to CoPilot (both on winmo), then moved to Android and started using CoPilot on that as well. Then I gave the free navigation app a go one day and I've never used anything else since.

Google's Navigation App. is awesome!
The text-to-speech is pretty good, But its funny when it says words incorrectly (street names for example)
Wouldn't want anything else to be honest

Given the flakiness of TomTom and their Gestapo-like user restrictions that is not a half-bad idea. Will have a look - is it easy to find?

GPS Application for Australia

Does anyone know what i should get in terms of a GPS application for my Desire with a compatible map of Australia?
I'm looking at copilot, but the site hosting it seems to be down 24/7 :\ so i dont know what to do!
I've got the NZ/Aus Copilot over here in Auckland, works fine. No need for the website, get it from the Market.
Try AndNav2 or any OpenStreetMap based application.
Sygic works fine for me in Australia.

You running it on Android 2.1? ...and is it Mobile Maps 10? It wont let me open it on my Desire
Why not keep it 'in house' xda stye and try this -

It sweet for me. I just got my desire 2 days ago and used to use tomtom on my diamond before. The interface is a bit rougher than TT, but its got street view and is the work of one of our own..
EDIT: After reading a few comment's it seems that Google Maps GPS runs down the battery and has a horrible lag, So I installed Sygic Mobile Maps 10 and yes, it works. I haven't tested it out on the road yet.

Yes, Sygic Mobile Maps 10, latest version. Runs fine and works as expected on stock Desire but is a bit odd to use as it has it's own way to navigate around the screen. (You have to use forward/back buttons on the screen, hard back button does nothing,...).
GPS for Aussies
Mate,
Go for CoPilot. Works well for me on Desire. Got Aus Map and RSA too (world cup). Directions are spot on. No need for a constant connection while travelling. Although I noticed that GPS fixes WAY faster with wifi/3G is on. There are some websites that have a hacked free version from google results, but I personally chose to buy it.
Good app!!

I've decided to go with Sygic. It works wonderfully - except for the fact it thinks my home address is 5.2km in the wrong direction.... smeh, hopefully that's the only address it stuffs up with hahaha. I wish TT would get their act together. I'm too used to its functionality and UI.

fully loaded google maps

Hi friends.
That qustion was asked again i know, but there was no answer at all at least at my search.
I need to fully load google maps on my hd2 and i wonder if this is possible some way.
I m running both winmo and android so i really dont care in what system i will have them.
I saw that desire hd have fully loaded maps and im running the same build so is this possible?
Thanks
Ps.if there is a.link to a discussion is the same to me..
What do you mean by "fully loaded"?
I have downloaded all geo Data for Germany from OpenStreetMap for some Software of mine, and that data is about 10 GiB of size.
So you want all detailed gmaps data? Just forget about it!
Wow i think you re right.
I just saw desire hd to run without internet connection and thought that was easy
You want to host Google Maps on your phone?
I think what you saw was the change from tiles to vectors by Google. If I am not mistaken, you can now fully load a certain route, but I doubt you want all of Google Maps to be on your phone.
Yepp, thats all what is possible. you can extract single routes or images from google maps, but you'll never be able to download all the data. not even for a medium sized area... if you just want the images in a fixed resultion, there are multiple downloaders for that!
The desire hd has its own gps app called locations. Depending of which build of the desire rom you are running, you may or may not have it. The locations app caches the map data to your phone. You will need to be on wifi to download the data.

it should run without data connection or 3g. be sure you have the latest update and try to clear app data or even reinstall it.

Hi No ideas on that app, try "Nav Free" from the app market, works like a dream on my Desire, free use, Free maps, free voices. The only thing you need is wifi or data to down load maps (once) then when using it just switch on your GPS. I also have the "faster GPS" which makes location very quick
TTFn
HI,
i have an other problem with Navigon select. I cannot install it. I know i had it installed and i think it was Runnymede by Seb. But than i updated to Android 4 and some other ROMs and Navigon told me not being compatible. now i'm back at Runnymede and it isn't compatible at all. Can someone tell me what Navigon needs to run on a phone. My Phone is from telecom so i normaly can download navigon select for free.
I hope you can help me. If it's only the Android Version that's not compatible i would change my build.prop a little bit and try if it is running
try rather Sygic - I think it is the best one out there. Theres no speed problems, or anything else, it runs just great

Or get an alternative app?
Personally I like MapsWithMe. It doesn't run on Google Maps but on OpenStreetMap.org, which means it's quite a lot more accurate and extensive. (Even lists benches and power lines.) Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip - never heard of it before, just tried it and it's excellent - time to ditch CoPilot
I've used RMaps which you can download a city map to something daft like 3 feet, viewable offline, multiple map scales so you can zoom in/out offline, download via wifi, cached/downloaded maps saved to SDCard, GPS tracker and multiple maps to choose from including Google, Ordinance Survey Maps + more....
I use this before I run Google and can have clear street view before I've set foot out of the door

I use navigator. It doesn't need a data connection because you download maps either paid or free (I use the free ones and they are fine). I found even when Google maps let you download a map you still couldn't navigate on it without a data connection anyway. Which made it kind of pointless.

I just made a search in Google play for apps suggested above "RMaps" and "Navigator" and I am not able to find app as such on the play store.... ?

I tried it and it looks nice but it is not for voice guided navigation
Search for MapFactor: GPS Navigation in play store for Navigator.

I use citymaps 2go pro, used it many times in france without data.

Unless the DEV removed Rmaps maybe (I'm sure I downloaded it from play store") well here's a link to his blog

I have tried all maps mentioned here, but none of them are as smooth and easy to understand as Google maps. Most of them are slow and laggy and also take forever to load location names and details.
Now I would be stuck without wifi and now wonder what to do....

[APP] Off-line maps (OSM) + "Courses" from Garmin - lack!

Dear XDA forum developers!
Is there anyone on this forum who can write a simple application showing the map (e.g. OpenStreetMap) in off-line mode, which we load ourselves into the watch's memory and additionally with the GPS track navigation function (from a .GPX file)(example: "Courses" from Garmin). There is no such thing on the market and it seems to me that with a well-developed application such something could be sold for 5$ very well.
P.S. Do you want to be rich? This is the moment!

have you tried Ghostracer?
Ghostracer - GPS Run & Cycle – Aplikacje w Google Play
Tracker GPS w czasie rzeczywistym wirtualnych konkurentów. Obsługuje Wear Android & Strava
play.google.com
It's possible to send maps portion to the watch from the phone and even navigate by loading gpx file, as far as I remember

I see. But it isn't that heavy I think, it should do its job. I agree that there is no big selection in this kind of apps though
