Power Button Menu - Add Deep Sleep? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted, but still stock ROM. Any way to modify the power button menu to include Deep Sleep? I'm assuming not... and that it will require custom ROM.. in that case, what ROM's out there now have or allow it?

When I fly, just as a 'comfort,' I prefer to insure my devices are in 'deep sleep' and not 'just' wifi-off and airplane mode... saves juice, too.

Um, yeah, as said, deep sleep is automatic. The only reason sleep would be interrupted would be wakelocks. If you're having problems with the device waking too often (Settings->Battery will show this) you can try Better Battery Stats in the market or here on XDA.
However, why I fly, I tend to just turn **** off.

[Q] Awake Time

I thought maybe we should have one thread where everyone having the same problem can come troubleshoot it.
On EB01, I have 100% awake time. I tried wiping and reinstalling fresh, but still sporadically it won't sleep. I've had some results turning off GPS, then back on. But that doesn't always work to resolve it.
Anyone else have anything they tried and it works consistently for them?
For me, if gps is on in the pull down shade, the phone doesn't sleep.
Probably a bug that will hopefully get addressed before release.

Confirmed issue heard from others btw. But where's the point of having gps even on when you don't need it? Just kills the battery anyways...

In all other versions, it wasn't actually "on" until an app needed it. In this version it's still not "on" it's just preventing the phone from sleeping.
Best practice for EB01 is to disable it until it's actually needed and then your battery life should significantly improve (assuming i'm not the only one that suffers this bug).

On DL09 I could keep it enabled and the only time it would "activate" was when I started Maps or the browser (Google is my homepage and i've enabled location sharing).
Either way my battery life is pretty much back to normal just by disabling GPS in the notification shade.
I've realized that upon boot, if I turn off GPS for a few minutes, turn it back on, then go into maps or latitude, the awake time will go back to normal. If I reboot and never go through this process, I'll get 100% awake time.
I seem to have forgotten where the awake time is displayed. Anyone refresh my memory?
Cheers

I'm using spare parts from the market to access the battery stats.

Is that what you're looking for?
Just download spare parts from the market. Its free and has tons of information and settings that you can tweak.

[Q] phone never goes into deep sleep

i figured out that to have arround 5 ma in standby ur phone must goes in deep sleep wich seems to be one of the cpu frequencies (i guess so) that is lower than 245 mhz ...u can check that by installing cpuspy ( a small app that shows the time spent on each frequencie ...) well in my case the app show the deep sleep as unused and spend all the time stuck on 245 mhz while screen is off ...
is there any way that might help to make the phone goes in deep sleep or to find the app that let the phone awake after screen is off
SetCPU, It;s available for free on XDA (and donation is avaible on market) has a lot of different settings, including profiles. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419

i tried it before ..but there's no option that will let the phone goes in deep sleep when screen is off ...u can just set the lowest value wich is 245 ...and my phone do it even without set cpu ... i need something that will force my phone to that state ...or to know how to find the app preventing my phone from sleeping.
thnks anyway
im not really sure this is of any help but Sleep myPhone is available on the market free. it will send your phone into airplane mode so im not sure if thats what you would want though. if you think its a app doing it install a app backup program if you dont have 1 already (i like appmonster) and uninstall 1 by 1 or as a short group intill it works again.

hey dude, have u tried using watchdog lite to see what apps are running in the background. Could easily be a rogue app thats stopping the phone from sleeping. You could backup your rom with CWM then do a fresh install of hyperdroid and see if you still have the issue.

i did many times and with diffrent roms ... and this happend even with a fresh install and nothing installed yet ...so iguess that might be caused by an app included in the rom
i installed the app & mine showed the same thing on RAFDROID HD at 1st. it listed deep sleep as "unused CPU states" along with several others. i let my phone rest a few mins and its showing deep sleep for about 4 mins and at 4%. i was thinking maybe there might have been a clitch in the app some how but with my testing it seems that the app works fine. what ROM are you using? kinda curious now. maybe i'll flash it over to see if i have the same problem.

apps that cause sleep of death

is there a list of known apps that cause the sleep of death?
i'm using the 7/30/12 mirage kang. the fresh install doesn't have SOD problems but after i restore my apps, if i let the screen go dark for ten minutes while wifi is running, i'm pretty much guaranteed SOD.

That *is* the SOD. It's not caused by an app so much as meeting those conditions. For a quick fix set wifi to turn off when the screen turns off. Search is your friend for more info/fixes.

Like MISRy said, it is not a specific app causing it. It is the fact that you leave wifi on with the screen off. And not just specifically screen off, but in deep sleep. But it is not consistent and not everyone gets it. Some of the devs could never make it happen. Usually it is when wifi is on with screen off and an app is using it that is the problem. So if wifi is on and being used, and at the moment you try to turn it on it is in deep sleep, bingo SOD. As I said in the other thread, look at my tips.

No, the kernel and wifi kernel module are two different things. The wifi kernel module has to be matched to the kernel (it is a kernel module), but is a separate piece of software. It is in /system/lib/modules/twlan_drv.ko. No SOD patches have been used in any stock CM7 kernels or modules. I think Mrg666 uses a patched kernel for his Mirage build and sometimes it is enough, but SOD does not really stop until the patched module is used.

Yes there is a setting. Go to wifi networks and select menu and advanced. There should be a wifi sleep policy setting.
I think there is no specific app which causes SOD
Dear all my friends who facing the SOD Sleep of Death issue with their Android devices...
i found that it is totally related to Wifi Sleep policy related... i just changed the setting last night n now after 8 hours it is running absolutely without SOD... i will also be inform u later if i will get my device out of SOD issue... all of u just have to do one thing.
Go to settings>wifi settings>
from the options go to advanced settings
there is one option: Keep wi-fi on during sleep (go to this option)
there is 3 options: 1. Always, 2. Only when plugged in, 3. Never (increases data usage)
u just have to change ur option from 1 to 2 or 3, then i hope u will find that u will get ur device out of SOD issue...

Save your Note 3 battery.

Source: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3/862515-note-3-horrable-battery-life.html
1. Reboot daily, and do it when the phone is fully charged AND STILL ON THE CHARGER! Let it sit on the charger for a good five minutes so it goes through the whole boot process without taking any battery usage.
2. find the best (lowest) screen brightness you can live with and set that as your fixed screen brightness. Using Auto-brightness is NOT a good battery saver.
3. Active Apps Manager. I also put this right on the front screen. It's a little number inside a circle. The number is for how many apps are currently running in your phone's memory. The circle around the number turns colors from green to orange to red. If it's red then at least one of your running apps is using the cpu and therefore battery. If it's green then the apps are idle and not using much battery. You can press the button and it will show you what apps are open and what percentage of cpu is being used.
This little widget is invaluable in telling you which apps are notorious for using the cpu (and battery) even though you are not actively using them. It helps you understand which apps you need to kill off each time you use them. For instance I have found that almost all my news apps that have notifications activated will continued to run and eat battery. Also, my chess app, Chess.com. So now I just know to kill them off after I'm done using them.
4. Turn off wifi, bluetooth, gps, 4G, syncing and don't use any live wallpapers.
5. Enable Developer Options and check 'disable hardware overlays' and then 'enable MSAA' (automatically turned off on reboot)
Whats the point in having WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G if you're suggesting to turn it off?? Might want to think that part over again buddy lol

Not sure if it works like Greenify but my S6E is definitely smoother and last longer.
It appears to be an add on to the Smart Manager under the battery section
Agreed definitely smoother and quicker
Possibly a move towards Marshmallow as read today Google want everyone to be able to map battery usage by app or hardware
Few more screen shots is a disable, auto clean and the a frequency option
Anyone know how to get rid of the notification? I have enabled auto optimize, but every day I get the notification that my phone can auto optimize apps. Kinda annoying.
Press for a few seconds at the notification then tap app info and uncheck the show notifications.
Definitely, my Edge works as a champion until night, this is a great update!

Yeah wish it was that simple. Samsung made sure to remove that possibility from this app.
You know what, the more I use samsung phones, the more annoyed I get with them, cause they pull stupid **** like this. A few updates ago it was the weather app nagging with notifications, and when they fixed that, they just introduce another silly app to do the same stuff.
I'm done.
The "Always Power Saving" mode comes out to be the life saver to my phone
I saw a drastic change in it's battery life! Actually it works like a task-killer and since it's integrated with the system, we don't need to root our devices and install Greenify at all Thanks Samsung for understanding the needs of average consumers!

I was asking because on my edge, on COI9 it doesn't say "always battery saving" but rather "always optimize" and I don't get standby times that great. I thought that since there is a new firmware available Samsung changed something in the algorithm, hence the name change and techsammy was on the new one, hence the much better standby times (and maybe has something disabled that does wonders)
Ι have huge battery drain since yesterday with COI9....
Ιts getting better after a few days.

Any solution
