Hey,
I'm on cm7, and see in BetterBatteryStats that the GpsLocationProvider runs non-stop causing partial wakelocks.
The thing is that most of the time my GPS is off, I use it for few minutes then turn it off, but nevertheless it seems like the service keep running.
Any ideas? Thx.

Do you use your GPS at all?
If not, I would just resort to removing the file as a whole.

Just a thought to check - if you have the Google Maps package installed try and freeze or uninstall it and see if that fixes it for you. It may be Latitude wake-locking.
Well looks like it is common issue with CM7, found some others who complain about that, for some reason once you activated the GPS the above service will not stop.
I guess you can't really make a good ROM for the device without Samsung doing it first... back to Bionix ...

Much more info is needed, to test if your phone has a problem remove all installed apps, charge to 100% and then check your batt stats. More likely than not something you installed is causing this.

Something is definitely wrong there. Wake lock should not even be showing up unless you are using some app to purposefully keep the phone awake or something. You must have a rogue app.

Yeah, I'm really suspicious about maybe some rogue apps run behind but no way to find out. maybe it's Viber or Whatsapp since it's always require internet connection to receive message. ... I would love to find a way to remove the bloat-software :crying: .. they ate half memory of the 8Gb Razr M, only 4.1 Gb Usable

does betterbatterystats work on this phone? I use this on my S3 to find out what's keeping phone from deepsleep. Then you can find out which apps are keeping it up.
It's not whatsapp - I use that as well and I get 1-2 full days on a charge.
You've got a lot of apps running in your notification tray (top left) - I'd pull them all out... or better yet, FDR and don't opt to restore your Google config then start over.
Unless you want to list every app you have installed those are my recommendations.

I have the very same issues, but only on GSM as soon as I am on Wifi battery life is excellent. I am using a German SIM card (in Germany) which works well (except of mobile hot spot). So I am suspecting some internal service looking for a Verizon service, which it obviously cannot find. Any thoughts?

Go into your dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* then hit the "phone information button" then scroll down to something that says "network types"or something along those lines and choose the "wdcma preferred" option. That might stop it from looking for vzw networks.

Thanks for the hint. But that does not solve the problem. I have installed juicedefender, which in its default setting seems to solve the problem. The battery life with juicedefender seems eternal . However, the phone is less "reactive" to email pushes etc.
I am getting the pro version of juicedefender, perhaps I can get down to the root.

My gf is having the same problem with her M. GSam said GMaps was wakelocked-looped...woke the thing 1,271 times in the 8 hours she had it unplugged. Auto-location reporting was turned on (wtf), switched it off but it kept dropping. ~10 hours off the cord with maybe 30 minutes use and it was at 6%. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but any ideas are much appreciated. I know more info is needed but it's kind of hard to pry into unrooted phones...we'll see.
I had the same problem two days ago. Two words for you... FAST DORMANCY (google it). Thats the culprit and is very telling with the first picture showing the phone is awake constantly when wifi is off and mobile data is on... you can test it yourself, compare battery drop rate with mobile data on and with wifi on.
Solution
1. Root phone, unfortunately you have to.
2. Download titanium backup
3. Freeze modemstatservice
4. Freeze fastdormancy.

Can you explain why titanium backup is needed?
I stopped the modemstatservice and fastdormancy services. Hope that works. I actually did a factory reset and thought for a short moment that it has improved, but that's not the case. I can stay a whole day with quiet a lot of browsing on Wifi and us up 20%. On 3G I drain 25% in 4h
So I bought titanium backup, freezed modemstatservice and fastdormancy.
No change in battery drain. I would like to know if all the other who have the same problem are running on a verizon SIM.
Until now nothing has worked. Under normal usage, I get a flat battery in about 16h. Normal means 2calls (<3min) and perhaps 5min of browsing.
I am having the same issue - coming from a Thunderbolt I am still happy with the battery as it is but if the wake lock could be resolved the battery would be awesome...
Not sure what is causing the gtalk spike as I removed that app...
ETA: running Jelly Bean leak & rooted... I also reflashed the leak wiping data, etc... with no change

Sorry to hear that this fix didnt work for you. Could you provide more info regarding your network and if possible some screenshot of betterbatterystats or something similar. Maybe *#*#4360#*#* > battery information might give me more information with regards to your problem.
Also, if you want to do really help eliminate more variables, try using ur phone on 3G without installing any apps.

Maybe uninstalling gtalk and leaving an apk is causing the spike since it is trying to sync. Why not leave it on, also try reducing email refresh time to 1hr as oppose to the default (15 mins). Your battery life seems reasonable.
Wake Lock Questions:
Anyone know what the bam.dmux.wakekock is for? It says it's for a power management system but I don't know what that's supposed to do.
Also the Ssmdcnt10 wake lock?
Those are the two that are running on my phone and both are running like 36 minutes since I unplugged my phone this morning. Is this bad or is it something that I could allow to continue happening? Thx!

I froze mine and so far it has improved and I'm running the jellybean leak with root; HOWEVER my battery still drains fast and when I was on ICS my battery life was amazing so I'm actually probably going to revert back to that tomorrow. I fed the jellybean leak since it came out early last week and tried everything that I know to increase battery life but nothing works.

My N4 hasn't had good battery life compared to my GNex and its noticeable. I used Google now on the Gnex and I got like close to 3 hours or more of screen on give or take with the 2000mah extended battery depending on what i was doing with 25% brightness most of the time. But on my N4 with Google now I got like barely 2 hours at like 20% brightness which doesn't' make much sense seeing that the battery in the N4 is larger. So I decided to turn off Google now since I don't really use it and now I get a little over 2 and a half hours sometimes more. I'm guessing that's cause Google now isn't updating and all that cause I turned off all the location services and GPS except the "wifi &mobile network location" for certain apps or widgets and stuff. This is all leading up to my question. How or why maps is at the top of my battery usage and why it says its using GPS when I have it off? It never was at the top before the android OS or screen was there. Now I get better battery life but still the screen isn't the top drainer which is odd. Does anyone have any insight? Cause I can only imagine the battery life I could get out of this if everything worked properly. Cause idk if its a bad code thing or hardware.

Ok I did cause i haven't yet and i had to turn on GPS to do so. But now im back out i turned off GPS. What would doing that do exactly? If you dont mind elaborating?
If you never went through that step, some apps that request location will never get it and will keep sending requests draining the battery.

I have signed in but google maps is still my top battery drain even when I haven't used it at all. Anything else that could be causing this?
Could be some widget or app that put location data like any weather widget for example.

Is this a documented fact or something you came up with on your own? I am just wondering because Google Now does not work properly on my phone but it worked great on my Gnex.
Well I guess maps has a bug or its badly coded because like you guys said you still get the battery drain even when you seem to turn location stuff off. Well i did the same I have no Google now activated and it was a little better but id still get maps and it would even say the GPS was on for like hours in it on the GSam battery app So I just decided to force close Maps and since then I have no issue maps isnt even on the GSam radar and my battery life is much better I Can get 3 hours screen time with 15% brightness pretty easy and more if im not doing intensive stuff. Im hoping better code for Jellybeen or maps will come out soon to even make this higher or actually let me use maps and google now without such the drain.
Also I found that when I went to use Maps for directions the GPS getting "stuck" issue would come back so id have to force close to get that to stop and it seems that some apps that use GPS get stuck even though I switch it off like Gas Buddy which looks for gas around your location I tried it and turned on GPS then off when i was done and when i checked GSam it was at the top of my list because the GPS was stuck on and even force closing the app wouldnt shut it off so I had to uninstall and reinstall to stop it. I think it was just that it wasnt coded for 4.1.2 well so hopefully all those bugs will get worked out in the future. Hope this helps someone!
Not documented, but I have personally have 3 n4s map battery drain fixed this way. I heard here on xda, tried, and worked. So there are at least 4 people fixed this way. Of course, this is probably not the only battery bug/optimization issue in 4.2.1.

Make sure you're not signed in to Latitude, it's a killer.
Go to Google Maps > Settings > Location, and disable "Location reporting".

what they said. this is a huge + for why maps is being used. wished google disabled this from the start so people wouldnt mistaken the phone for having 'poor battery life'
same issue! battery usage as GPS
I'm actually having the same issue (i know this is old)
All my settings are correct, even with force closing the app (GPS and Facebook sometimes) the battery usage will be #1, and the GPS on time under details will be constantly ticking. As I refresh the battery usage, the GPS timer will continue to go up.
Only way I figured to solve this is to reboot my phone.. anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Experiencing it both on Google stock 4.3 Galaxy Nexus and Slim Bean 4.3 Nexus 4. Battery stats show GPS running under Google maps after switching GPS off using quick settings tile, after switching off location services in phone settings and even after switching off location in Google settings app. Only reboot stops good usage in battery stats.
This is very annoying. Have anybody fixed it? Any advice appreciated.

You have exactly the same finding of mine (although I may have better punctuation)
The GPS is stuck on even when you killed the map and turn OFF the GPS in the settings already.
And you are right, every app that use the GPS can have this "bug". (I used Yelp a lot and battery status always shows that its GPS usage is on even after I turned off GPS)
In GSAM battery monitor it does not show a high usage though, I guess it does not actually drain battery.
And this issue is still appearing in Android 4.3 with Google map 7.2.0
Hi everyone. I managed to get my hands on a beautiful blue I9505, had some issues while SIM unlocking it, but that's done and I am enjoying the phone very much.
Now, I do have a problem with it. The thing is, it simply will NOT go to deep sleep. Constantly hovering on 384 MHz with msm_hsic_host using a massive 90+ percent of awake time. It is driving me nuts. Our colleagues and friends over at Nexus 4 forums had an identical issue, and I read 57 pages of posts and used all their tips and tricks. Nothing helped.

99% chance that some app you installed is causing the wakelock. Install BetterBatteryStatts to determine wich app causes deep sleep/wakelock issues.

I do have BBS as can be seen on the screenshots. I can't find the culprit since I believe it's the system itself.
I had this problem and it turned out to be avg pro app keeping it awake

Wakelock couldnt find anything on mine either I just had a feeling it was that app so I removed it and it started going in to deepsleep I also had a problem with maps keeping my phone awake.

clear dalvik cache and see again if it does enter Deep sleep or not, as everyone said its an application if not it must be a setting like sync, scan, or even that damn old wifi advanced settings that kept usual phones awake... reconfigure.
Insomnia
My phone won't sleep, won't time out and tapping the power button won't shut off the display. This happened just after deleting bootsamsung.qng, samsungloop.qng and shutdown.qng.
I'd replace the three deleted files, but they just grew and replaced themselves minus the carrier logo. The Baseband version now says: unknown. I stopped and installed google maps, that didn't help.
The good news is, those pink blocks are gone. The bad, I did a factory reset and noticed my cell network connectivity is gone. Maybe that's the sloppy work cutting down the SIM, or maybe something else? I've reinserted that sucker a dozen times and no joy. Do you know if the phone will stay awake without cell service? Putting it in airplane mode doesn't help.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your consideration.

Cleared Dalvik, will keep an eye out (though I don't know how can it help)...
Wiping Dalvik did not help. I will try a factory reset later this afternoon and let the phone be for an hour or so without any apps installed.

Same problem here, my msm_hsic_host accounts for ~99% of the wakelocks according to BBS, even when the phone is in airplane mode and Wifi is off.
I'm running stock MDC firmware & kernel, rooted though.

Read this about the wakelock, has to do with bad/lower 3g connections:

This seems to be a logical explanation, but I've disabled 3G, and it still happens.
Plus it happens when in airplane mode, without any (cell) activity. I'm pretty sure that the kernel isn't configured properly.
Is there a known kernel / stock firmware version where this problem is fixed?
It appears that I have solved my problem.
I reset the device to factory settings and then restored apps, 5 by 5 in 30 min intervals. I still haven't restored all my apps, but so far I restored some 80%, here is the current state of things.

I froze the same apps I had frozen before. If I find the app that caused the problems, I will report back. So far it's all good, 6h of use and I'm at 87% battery, wifi and 3G always on
P.S. I have Wanam's 1.0 installed
EDIT: 22h30 min, 2h4min screen on time, 48% battery.
I'd say that's an okay result.

What app was the problem?

You know what, I can't really say. Since the factory reset I restored all my apps and never had the problem since. Really weird issue. 25% can be bad. I had 99.4%

So, if I give you my app list, can you identificate what you used before wipe?
Maybe can will know what apps are potentially to reproduce the problem
So, I've been having some battery issues lately and I can't really tell why. I haven't been doing anything too extreme, but my battery is almost dead within 12 hours of a charge, and the highest usage is mostly the Kernel and/or OS. I know next to nothing about that side of things, so I exported reports from GSam, and I'm hoping someone will be able to translate them for me if there's an obvious problem. Thanks in advance!
(I've also uninstalled Boxer, I only had it because Pro was free yesterday.)

Keep the location enabled.
Are you using any of the smart stay/air view etc. controls?
If not turn them ALL off.

As far as I know, location is always turned on (meaning I never turn it off myself). One of the first things I did was turn off all the smart crap, and turn off every piece of bloatware I could in the settings (I'm not rooted).
When was the last time that your phone was restarted?

I usually restart it every other day, give or take. It's gone a couple days without it before. I don't usually have it off for more than a couple minutes at a time though.

This is beginning to sound much more complicated.
Did you install any apps recently?
How old is the phone?
Also do you have data/wifi on all the time?

That's not good. :-/
I install apps often, but I just as often uninstall them...I guess that's not much help. If it was one of them though, wouldn't it show up under the battery log?
It's approaching a year old, I got it last November I believe.
Yes, I keep my Wifi and data on all the time.
Bad network will drain your battery. Check how the signal is.
Android OS and Kernel are normal between 12-25% on 4.4.2. It's an issue with the battery reporting.
It looks like you've got a wakelock. 12% per hour means it's not going into deep sleep.
Check Wakelock Detector to see if it's going into deep sleep or not. (It needs root for everything else, but that still works.)

Stated in reply post that the phone is not rooted.
My advice will be to uninstall apps one at time to find the one causing the drain.

And neither is mine. Wakelock detector still works in the tab that shows Deep Sleep vs Awake. As I said by 'Everything else requires root, but that still works'.

That varies. At home, I have great signal (full-signal 4G, router is never more than 20 feet away). Some places in town, I can drop to 3G, especially my grandparents (although my grandma does have a router I'm connected to). There's a weird (unrelated?) bug where if I drop to 3G, I either have to turn airplane mode on or wait several hours until it reverts back to 4G, even though I'll be back in a verified 4G area.

I will definitely check that out and use it tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll get back to you on what it says. What generally causes the wakelocks, specific apps? Or just poorly set-up preferences?

Usually apps. Facebook, Skype, some games. Although Mediascanner(Android process) is also known to be responsible for it quite often.

It looks like PayPal was one of the culprits? For some reason?
I did find out I could root extremely easily, so did so and downloaded Greenify, so I'm hoping I can tweak enough to get my battery life back.

That does seem to be the case... Either uninstall paypal or drop it in the Greenify list.
Google Search is probably either the widget or you're using Google Now.

By widget, do you mean the search bar? I use Nova, and I've removed that, so it must be Google Now. I don't use it often, but it does leave me weather cards and shipping info, so would that be it?

I don't think they're related, but I can't be a hundred percent sure. You can try disabling both Google Search ones under apps -> all, see what that does to the info updates. If it scrambles them, just turn them back on.
(There's two Google Search, one is the search bar, the other is the app related to it.)
With that and Paypal dealt with, battery life should improve significantly.

Happy to help Let's hope that solves it! Also don't forget to greenify Paypal (Or uninstall it if you don't need it), as that seems to be the main culprit.
