HD2 water :(

So today I was out and it rained and my phone got a little wet .. wouldnt say it was a lot but the phone is not turning on doesnt charge.. but when i did try once it turned on the flash for sometime ..
Update.. Idk why I have the battery out and the cover off.. for sometime now.. maybe half an hour or so.. and now.. if i put in the battery the flash comes on.. Waiting for some guidelines .. and just for the heck of it I put the battery in again been like an hour.. and the flash didn't come on but I can hear a strange noise from the inside..

Stop putting the battery in or plugging it in...whenver water gets in the case of a device like this you need to let it dry thoroughly before trying to put any juice through it at all.
It's often recommended to let the phone sit in a bowl of uncooked rice for at least a day to try to absorb any moisture before trying to turn it back on.

Hmm.. K so I would try using a hair dryer or something first thing tomm morning to dry it out.. and then try to turn it on??

I don't know how comfortable I'd be recommeding using a hair dryer, but I guess it might be worth a try. I'd be sure to use it on a very low setting, and point it only at the back and not the screen side...and from at least 6-8" away.

most hair driers have a cool or air (no heat) setting, use that with reckless abandon!
SAVE your HD2!

Take the battery out.goto walmart and buy a product called damp aid. it is two bucks .empty the little white pellets into a ziploc bag .with your battery out place both the battery and the phone into the bag inside the pellets .squeez all the air out you can and seal the bag up.let it sit for atleast 24 hours .i fixed phones soaked in puddles like this let me know if this works

That sounds like a great idea, I placed a soaked phone on a radiator and given it a day to dry up. It works and It's free, if you have radiators of course. Hoping for the best.

Umm.. So today after I saw that it just won't work as in turn on etc.. I took it too a friend who is also a service agent guy and he opened the phone.. water has done a lot of damage.. we cleaned the phone with some agents, etc and then put it back together.. the phone did start.. but there was water in the display.. and then it turned off.. he told me to come again tomm to check out how to get the lcd back up again.. any thoughts guys?
Update : K, I think my phone is kinda dead for good now.. Because we were not able to get the lcd up now.. And I took it to HTC service center yesterday and they told me that the motherboard has a problem and needs to be replaced with the screen.. And quoted me round about 250-260$ . And then still they said it might not work for more then 2-3 months etc .. But I don't get it.. the phone charges.. it takes incoming calls u can talk to any1 u want.. the other person can listen to u.. if u view it from a quite disturbing angle u can see the screen.. So, do I need to get a new motherboard with LCD or just the LCD.. or should I try with another service center?

Phone got wet :( ...suggestions?

Hey all,
My phone got a little wet today from the rain. It was acting funny, like rebooting itself automatically. I opened the back cover, and found that a bit of water made its way into the back. I immediately took the battery out. I have let it dry, and as far as I can see, there is no water visible any more, though I have not ventured to take my phone apart.
My phone has stopped working though. When I put the battery in, it immediately boots up and shows the white text (Galaxy S GT-19000M Samsung) for a couple seconds, goes blank, and then it pops up again. It does this in a continuous loop.
Holding the power button alone does nothing.
Holding Down Volume, the center button, and the power button together will show the "Download" screen for a couple seconds, but will then reset.
Holding Up Volume, the center button, and the power button together will bring it into safe mode (i think its called that?) but will reset again as well.
Is my phone screwed? Any suggestions?

How long did you wait before turning on your phone again? To be secure that it's dry inside you normally should wait at least 24 hours...
If there was really water inside, there is the possibility that it left some sediments behind.
In your position I would just wait and let the sgs dry for a time...

With respect if you put your phone in rice then cover it completely in material our you risk covering your internals with starch dust!

If it doesn't work even when it's really dry, that could be your solution.
-Remove Battery
-Insert the Phone in PURE WATER (!!!), so that everything gets washed out.
-Let it dry for a loooong time (I wouldn't turn it on for at least 4 days)
but that's one of the last things you should try...

This is the way to go! The rice will absorb the mosture from the phone and it will most likely work after.
You should wait at least 24h. if you can wait more, do so!
And don't worry about starch dust...

THIS IS A LAST RESORT METHOD
If that doesn't work, get some distilled water and get your phone in it (without the battery). Water is a solvent, it will likely remove minerals deposit where they shouldn't be. Afterwards, you can let it dry in a bowl of rice for a couple of days and pop your battery in and see if everything works.

hey mine got into contact with a cup of milk some weeks ago...
you can also heat it up to 50 degrees celsius in an oven...so it drys faster...

Swam with my phone for 20 min

On my last day on holiday I forgot to take my phone out of my pocket before going to the swimming pool. Now it's soaked and looks bricked. Does anyone knows if there it's a chance of it working after it's dried up.

If the phone was off and the battery was removed as soon as possible. Another major factor is how pure the water is - sea water will kill your phone unless you wash it out with water with no (or as almost none) salts in it.
The phone was to be allowed suffient time to dry out. Placing it under a gentle heat (ie near a lamp) and with those silicon bags that it equipment comes with or with rice. You are normally talking about a week for drying out time.

I've heard of dripping wet phones drying out and being okay, so it's a possibility.
There's all the usual airing cupboard/bowl of rice/little crystal packs you get in your trainers/bag of salt suggestions, but I think the most prominent one is to be 100% sure that ALL moisture has gone before you try turning it on again.
Have a search through the forums, and not just this phone as this is obviously not a phone specific problem. There's plenty of advice out there.

open the back panel take evry thing out
dray it
dray the phone from back with an hair dryer with medium heat
for one hour
put it outside in the open for 4 hours
again one hour with hair dryer
and pray a lot
this is what save my nokia n95 ....so be optimistic
In my case I was saving a child from drowning ...so maybe it was an angel that thought it is not a good day to kill my phone
(try doing a good thing before the process)

20min is a long time for the phone to be in the water
It will also depend on if the phone was on or off when it went for a dip.
if it was off, there is a small chance it could be ok, leave it for a week to air and then cross your fingers.
if it was on, id take a guess that your goose is cooked.

Thanks a lot for all support! Well the phone was on :-( but the water was fresh. Anyway we have already checked out so no access to a hair dryer. Rice is not available until we're back to England this evening. Will report back if the phone survives.

Dissamble your phone completly (tutorial on youtube), place the mobo in a oven @ 100 degrees C for 5 a 10 min
Try first to dry your board with a hairdryer

I once fixed a friends (cough) iphone that was full of dirty water. Stripped it down, put the main components in clean water to wash it out, then put in a 50 degree oven for an hour. Left if over night then reassembled. Worked a treat afterwards, so there is hope. The secret is to give it plenty of time to dry out.

Use distilled water to rinse. Or even better, isopropanol; no baking needed.

it looks it's fried :-( I disassembled it and dried up but it does not show any signs of life. Will try to call my travel insurance company tomorrow to see if it's covered.

it should be perfectly dry after everything that has been done to it.

I would be tempted to take it apart and leave it for a week it 2 to dry out. There's a good chance it will work again as long as you don't turn it on while its still wet. If it was salt water or water with chlorine wash the phone with clean water well while in pieces. It shouldn't cause any damage doing this. Its best to remove all salt & chlorine as to prevent long term damage.

Sorry to be the dictionary police but its kinda a habit of mine, swimmed with makes no sense, I think you were aiming for swam.

It takes a Minimum of 2 weeks to cure a water damaged phone. If it has salt in it, it wont work at all. IN such a case you should have rewashed it with clean water. You also need to keep it air tight with DRY rice inside a airtight box for 1 to 2 weeks. This will make sure all the fluids are extracted from the machine.
It can feel dry, but it does not mean it actually is. Also, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT charge the phone with the battery in it after a water accident for the first time again.

Well, both of my insurance policies explicitly exclude mobile phones .
So it is now like either the phone will survive or I will have to use my old Hero for the next 12 months.
So I washed it again to make sure no chlorine left and put it in a tightly closed box with a lot of yummy rice
Anyway, I do not hold my breath. I think I fried it when I thought it is dry and was trying to switch it on.

Last weekend my phone got wet (was completly sunk in water) but after drying everything seems fine. I still cannot believe it myself but yet i couldnt find any damage (except the waterseals).
Now i wanted to know if there is an app to test the sensors and anything possible? Couldnt find any on market.
Iam running cyanogenmod 7.2 stable, so there are also some developeroptions...but nothing that says 'yes okay the sensor responds and give me normal values' .
Does somebody know anything?

I jumped on a pool with the phone in my pocket.. yeah stupid but anyways, I had my phone battery out, sim out and SD card and sunk it all in rice for about a day, your phone should turn out fine aside from stains on your screen which will eventually clear up a little. My phone is still running great.

Uh sure corrosion ... sounds bad...i hope it wont die... i gently dryed it with a fan and held it a long time bodywarm.
I was on a festival and at the stages when heavy rain starts and my tent got completly drowned (phone was off for batterysave).
As i pulled it out the water it vibrated 3 times as the water run out. I instantly took out the battery. One day later we got home and i used the fan.
After another hour cooling down, it booted up with some flickering lights but everything works. Flickering lights are
gone now, too.
I just wanted to ask if theres a developers or engeneers app for a healthcheck^^ perhaps some memory is damaged i dont know of yet or something like that.

Best bet is to open er up and properly clean and dry everything you can. To avoid corrosion and to be certain it's dry

Doubt it, but mine was literally submerged in water for maybe a minute, and my phone works the exact same. Rice man, works wonders.

Is there any tut how to open the G2? I tried myself but got stuck after 2 screws...couldnt find another and case wouldnt open^^'
And no, G2 is not waterproof...at least there is no commercial that says so^^
My one was at least half an hour fully under water (not a bit was out of the water), but it was switched off.
As I pulled it out of the little lake in my tent it vibrated 3 times (perhaps an automated protection of the electronic circuit? if too wet sensor switches off the whole circuit?) and i removed the battery in panic.
Then i didnt turn it on for 2 days. One day dried open air at the festival and the second day i gently used a hairdryer to get rid of the water under the display.
Its still like a miracle for me...never thought it would even turn on again.

there are three t5 torx screws, then you need a plastic pry tool or guitar pick to open the case. search youtube for a video like digitizer replacement and you'll see how to do it

I dropped my phone in the toilet, how do I dry it quickly

I was making a video trying to do a prank on my friend, and it just slipped out of my hands. It was in there for around 5 seconds and was completely soaked. I put it in a bag with rice, but that's pretty much all i know how to do.
Is there any other things I should be doing to make the phone dryer?

You may get it done using a hair dryer, using caution though, but it will still have internal water present, best would be to get a ziplock bag, 1/2 full of white rice....place the phone in there for 24-48hrs, it will absorb pretty much all the moisture. time will be the issue...
do not rush it.

Well...just leave it in for a few DAYS and hope for the best...not one day but a FEW...just cause it appears to be dry doesn't mean everything inside is dry yet

The best option is to go ahead and diassemble it and clean everything with high grade Isopropal alcohol. Even if it's not 100% alcohol it's better than the water thats in there. Also, tap water has chemicals and minerals in it that will stay behind when the water is gone that will short out all kinds of things on the boards. These need to be rinsed off so that when you do energize it, no harm will be done. No way would I allow it to dry without flushing everything first.

Do the rice trick first. Make sure you wait 48hrs at least before power-on. If that doesnt work you will have to try taking it apart.

I left my s2 hanging on a heater vent for the whole night a year ago when that happened to me. I dropped it in a sugary drink so it was worse , had to wash the charging port with distilled water before hanging it on the vent. Another time I had my phone in my pocket while walked into the ocean on the beach, that phone was a goner for obvious reasons.

I have done this with two different phones (a Nokia N95 I dropped in a cup of coffee and an Inspire 4G on a pool) and got life from the phones for a couple of years after it happened, basically they keep working until I replaced them.
Remove the battery immediately, go and buy distilled water and submerge the phone to flush the impurities that got into the phone; for the N95 I dropped in coffee I repeated the process about 5 times until the water was clear, the one in the pool just a couple of times.
Rinse it, do not use a hairdryer as the heat can losen some stuff inside, put it on rice for as long as you can (I waited a full week).
Done!, YMMV but this was my solution to flush impurities without disassembling the phone.

i have used 98% alcohol to flush out any water because it doesn't attract any electricity. then i put it in a bag of rice for 1 day and it worked. (so to speak you and still use the phone when submerged under the alcohol. i made a video of it with an older flip phone)

Just get a new one it was in 5he toilet for heaven sakes

Like everybody else is saying take the battery out, and put the phone, and the battery in a bag full of rice. Wait 3-4 days and it should work. A hair dryer alongside that may not be a bad idea, and if u ever get it working, u might want to look into getting a case.

I agree. Not sure I would want it up against my face again even if its completely cleaned.

You know what's annoying?
It's when your non-technical friend on Facebook asks the public for assistance when they get their phone wet.
And you tell them to leave it in a bag of rice for 48 hours.
So they leave it in for 12 hours and then say everything is fine because it turns on now.
Ummh, hello. The 48 hours is not simply to get your phone to a point where it turns on. It's also to get as much of the remaining moisture out as possible, because EVENTUALLY the rest of the water is going to start corroding the phone internals and cause flakey problems down the road.

ps. If it were my phone, I'd first do an isophrophy bath.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not but that is _not_ helpful, and if it isnt obvious do NOT ever do that with anything metal. I know I'm new here but serious replies only please FFS. I know plenty of people that have done this and the rice trick (with alcohol or distilled water flush as recommend previously in the thread if necessary) will work if anything does. Time and patience!

You know plenty of people who have dropped their phones in the toilet? Crazy..
I was joking btw. I never said to turn the microwave on, I just said to place it in the microwave..
You could just take out the battery and make sure it is completely dry. Then you could get a hair dryer and if it has a cool button, you could try that. or a can of air or an air compressor..
It just takes time.. let it sit there for a week and then try it.. If it doesn't work, then maybe you should get one of those lifeproof cases.. would've saved you on this one..
