Stop putting the battery in or plugging it in...whenver water gets in the case of a device like this you need to let it dry thoroughly before trying to put any juice through it at all.
It's often recommended to let the phone sit in a bowl of uncooked rice for at least a day to try to absorb any moisture before trying to turn it back on.

I don't know how comfortable I'd be recommeding using a hair dryer, but I guess it might be worth a try. I'd be sure to use it on a very low setting, and point it only at the back and not the screen side...and from at least 6-8" away.

hmm hopefully it will get sorted out

That sounds like a great idea, I placed a soaked phone on a radiator and given it a day to dry up. It works and It's free, if you have radiators of course. Hoping for the best.

Umm.. So today after I saw that it just won't work as in turn on etc.. I took it too a friend who is also a service agent guy and he opened the phone.. water has done a lot of damage.. we cleaned the phone with some agents, etc and then put it back together.. the phone did start.. but there was water in the display.. and then it turned off.. he told me to come again tomm to check out how to get the lcd back up again.. any thoughts guys?
Update : K, I think my phone is kinda dead for good now.. Because we were not able to get the lcd up now.. And I took it to HTC service center yesterday and they told me that the motherboard has a problem and needs to be replaced with the screen.. And quoted me round about 250-260$ . And then still they said it might not work for more then 2-3 months etc .. But I don't get it.. the phone charges.. it takes incoming calls u can talk to any1 u want.. the other person can listen to u.. if u view it from a quite disturbing angle u can see the screen.. So, do I need to get a new motherboard with LCD or just the LCD.. or should I try with another service center?

My wildfire is dead! :(

I ****ed up today!!! Forgot to empty my pockets and now my wildfire is in the washinmachine! Couldnt stop the f-ckin machine and watched my clothes in a 60min-programe. When finally the program was finished, the stupid lid could not open. And I were in a hurry to get to my workingplace. Now the wildfire is in the washingmachine until I come home.
Probably the phone is as dead as Michael Jacksson!
Is there any way maybe to rescue my phone after this treatment? Hairfan? Oven? Element for drying?...something?
I really like this wildfireforum and you guys writing here, so want my phone back!

should I only put the battery on the heatingelement? or the whole phone?
Should I maybe wash it in water first to get rid of eventually rests from the machine? (sorry for my swedish-english writing here;p)
Ouch, nasty. After a full cycle in the washer I wouldn't hold much hope but it is worth trying the old rice trick.
Take the battery out of the phone and put the phone in to a bowl (or bag) of UNCOOKED rice (it doesnt really work if the rice is cooked lol) and leave it overnight. The dry rice soaks all moisture out of the phone making sure it is completely dry without heating it up (and possibly damaging it more).

This is what happened to my sony phone lol, except I left it overnight in the wash.

Just put the phone in a bowl of dry rice at room temperature and leave it overnight, or maybe even a day or so. The rice will pull the water out of the phone without any need for heat.
should I just put the phone on the rice or put the rise under and over the phone? So that the phone is covered on all sides, lying in the middle of the bowl?

sweet, will try that when I come home then =)
Or you take pure alcohol and soak it
(few hours, but very IMPORTANT >99% purity !)
Afterwards dry it for several days <-- do not heat it, just dry it
Disclaimer: Works since it is pure simple chemistry, but I never dared to do it so far
If the rice method doesn't work, and if you got some experience in electronics, try opening your phone up and look if any vital components are harmed...

Will try the rice first, sounds less risky
The only problem with soaking in alcohol is that it can dissolve any glues used within the phone itself. But if nothing else works it might be worth trying as a very last resort.
Seriously it will not do any harm as long as you really use 99% + purity.
The problem is remaining humidity leading to oxidation (corrision) of your contacts. Alcohol is a solvent and therefore water free. It will "take up" the humidity and afterwards evaporate.
I guess the major problem is that exept for me not a lot of people here work in a laboratory and have easy acess to a liter of 99,99% pure alcohol.....
isnt there anything called batterywater? Maybe that workes? Think I can buy that on statoil and similar places?

Phone got wet :( ...suggestions?

Hey all,
My phone got a little wet today from the rain. It was acting funny, like rebooting itself automatically. I opened the back cover, and found that a bit of water made its way into the back. I immediately took the battery out. I have let it dry, and as far as I can see, there is no water visible any more, though I have not ventured to take my phone apart.
My phone has stopped working though. When I put the battery in, it immediately boots up and shows the white text (Galaxy S GT-19000M Samsung) for a couple seconds, goes blank, and then it pops up again. It does this in a continuous loop.
Holding the power button alone does nothing.
Holding Down Volume, the center button, and the power button together will show the "Download" screen for a couple seconds, but will then reset.
Holding Up Volume, the center button, and the power button together will bring it into safe mode (i think its called that?) but will reset again as well.
Is my phone screwed? Any suggestions?
Thanks so much.
How long did you wait before turning on your phone again? To be secure that it's dry inside you normally should wait at least 24 hours...
If there was really water inside, there is the possibility that it left some sediments behind.
In your position I would just wait and let the sgs dry for a time...
floo
Put it into airing cupboard minimum 24 hours, retry

If it doesn't work even when it's really dry, that could be your solution.
-Remove Battery
-Insert the Phone in PURE WATER (!!!), so that everything gets washed out.
-Let it dry for a loooong time (I wouldn't turn it on for at least 4 days)
but that's one of the last things you should try...

This is the way to go! The rice will absorb the mosture from the phone and it will most likely work after.
You should wait at least 24h. if you can wait more, do so!
And don't worry about starch dust...

THIS IS A LAST RESORT METHOD
If that doesn't work, get some distilled water and get your phone in it (without the battery). Water is a solvent, it will likely remove minerals deposit where they shouldn't be. Afterwards, you can let it dry in a bowl of rice for a couple of days and pop your battery in and see if everything works.
Thanks for all your tips! I will try the rice method and see what happens.
hey mine got into contact with a cup of milk some weeks ago...
you can also heat it up to 50 degrees celsius in an oven...so it drys faster...

Swam with my phone for 20 min

On my last day on holiday I forgot to take my phone out of my pocket before going to the swimming pool. Now it's soaked and looks bricked. Does anyone knows if there it's a chance of it working after it's dried up.
If the phone was off and the battery was removed as soon as possible. Another major factor is how pure the water is - sea water will kill your phone unless you wash it out with water with no (or as almost none) salts in it.
The phone was to be allowed suffient time to dry out. Placing it under a gentle heat (ie near a lamp) and with those silicon bags that it equipment comes with or with rice. You are normally talking about a week for drying out time.
I've heard of dripping wet phones drying out and being okay, so it's a possibility.
There's all the usual airing cupboard/bowl of rice/little crystal packs you get in your trainers/bag of salt suggestions, but I think the most prominent one is to be 100% sure that ALL moisture has gone before you try turning it on again.
Have a search through the forums, and not just this phone as this is obviously not a phone specific problem. There's plenty of advice out there.
Good luck mate - I hope you get it working again.

open the back panel take evry thing out
dray it
dray the phone from back with an hair dryer with medium heat
for one hour
put it outside in the open for 4 hours
again one hour with hair dryer
and pray a lot
this is what save my nokia n95 ....so be optimistic
In my case I was saving a child from drowning ...so maybe it was an angel that thought it is not a good day to kill my phone
(try doing a good thing before the process)
good LUCK
20min is a long time for the phone to be in the water
It will also depend on if the phone was on or off when it went for a dip.
if it was off, there is a small chance it could be ok, leave it for a week to air and then cross your fingers.
if it was on, id take a guess that your goose is cooked.
sorry to hear bud.
Thanks a lot for all support! Well the phone was on :-( but the water was fresh. Anyway we have already checked out so no access to a hair dryer. Rice is not available until we're back to England this evening. Will report back if the phone survives.
Dissamble your phone completly (tutorial on youtube), place the mobo in a oven @ 100 degrees C for 5 a 10 min
Try first to dry your board with a hairdryer
I once fixed a friends (cough) iphone that was full of dirty water. Stripped it down, put the main components in clean water to wash it out, then put in a 50 degree oven for an hour. Left if over night then reassembled. Worked a treat afterwards, so there is hope. The secret is to give it plenty of time to dry out.
Use distilled water to rinse. Or even better, isopropanol; no baking needed.

it should be perfectly dry after everything that has been done to it.
I would be tempted to take it apart and leave it for a week it 2 to dry out. There's a good chance it will work again as long as you don't turn it on while its still wet. If it was salt water or water with chlorine wash the phone with clean water well while in pieces. It shouldn't cause any damage doing this. Its best to remove all salt & chlorine as to prevent long term damage.

It takes a Minimum of 2 weeks to cure a water damaged phone. If it has salt in it, it wont work at all. IN such a case you should have rewashed it with clean water. You also need to keep it air tight with DRY rice inside a airtight box for 1 to 2 weeks. This will make sure all the fluids are extracted from the machine.
It can feel dry, but it does not mean it actually is. Also, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT charge the phone with the battery in it after a water accident for the first time again.
Well, both of my insurance policies explicitly exclude mobile phones .
So it is now like either the phone will survive or I will have to use my old Hero for the next 12 months.
So I washed it again to make sure no chlorine left and put it in a tightly closed box with a lot of yummy rice
Anyway, I do not hold my breath. I think I fried it when I thought it is dry and was trying to switch it on.

S4 submerged in water

so yesterday as i was outside talking with some friends, i dropped my s4 which then bounched along the grass and down into the drain, fully submerging itsself in about 4 inches of water. the amazing thing is that after pulling it out (still powered on) i turned it off and let it sit and to my surprise everything still works 100%! im not sure if i am just lucky but does anyone know just how much moisture this thing can take? still stuns me that it survived being undwerwater. i thought for sure my $600+ investment had just went down the drain.. (pun intended)

i had this issue on my s2 but after searching google.com i finally found an answer and this works 100% as of now since my s2 still working but bought a new battery anyways here's what i did Putting it in rice is basically trying to suck out the moisture. Depending on how much damage was done it may or may not help.Open the back cover of the phone and remove the battery, put them in, leave it there for days, and it may sucked out the left over moisture inside your phone or if still doesnt work get a Silica gel and that should help your problem as well
Edit:
If you wanna try out the rice solution folow this step
1 The first step is to leave your phone alone! DO NOT try to turn your wet cell phone on. Turning on your wet phone can permanently damage the circuitry.
2 Next step is find a bag of rice, preferably white. White rice can absorbs the most water. Ensure that you have enough bag of rice to completely submerge your wet cell phone.
3 Now, place your wet cell phone into the bag of rice. Place the phone in the middle of the bag so that you can no longer see your wet cell phone.
4 Next, place your bag of rice in a dry and warm place.
5 Leave your bag of rice to sit for days. . After waiting for a few days you can turn it on your phone once again. Remember this works on my s2 and i wouldnt not suggest this to you if doesnt work well or go with a plan B "Silica gel packet"

it might corrode over time. a water damage could appear weeks or months after getting wet. i wouldn't be too excited if i was you. you might have even worsened it by using it without letting it dry out.

Put it in rice for 24 hr if not longer, your second mistake was to power it on after it getting wet.
I'd immediately put it in a bag of rice and let it sit for at least 24 hours personally.

Dunk it in 99% alcohol for a bit then take it out & dry it off... Should be good to go.

Silica is best, but cat litter, instant couscous, instant rice, and instant oatmeal all performed better than uncooked white rice—everyone's favorite damn drying agent.
Best you can do is place it in a bag of uncooked rice to try and draw the moisture out. Beings you already tried to powered it on then the damage might already been done. Leave in the bag for a few days but mostly its a lost cause as the connections will most likely rust over time as I seen happened with people in the past.

You know what? I suggest popping open those 20 screws and air drying it. After 24h use something like Arctic clean 2 or alcohol to clean any contacts you can, including USB c port. You'll get to see more of your phone, display will probaly dry out better and you'll get an idea of components that may need replacing in future if it acts up.if you have it already or know somewhere close by, but some silica and put the disassembled parts in different Ziploc bags.
