Twist of the knife for Apple! - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

This should be a no brainer for Apple marketing. They will play off the whole judge ruling quote saying the iPad a much "cool"er device than the Samsung tablets.

It'll have to be worded carefully though, the judge is specifically telling them, to tell the UK at least, that Sammy didn't copy their products, what they do with the word play may land em in more trouble for not doing as they're told.

I am so happy i have my 7.7 already. Actually thinking about buying 3g one to use as a business phone.. Might buy it now while i have the chance..

Patent trolls nothing more, I'm sure the 7.7 really put a dent into apple's sales, as did the rest of the galaxy tab lineup, oh wait.
crazy thought, is apple wanting this ban to protect the mini ipad when it goes on sale?
Oh well, got my 7.7 months ago. Now Samsung just need to come out with 7.7 ver 2 which they just need to tweak the design.
A stupid patent that patent a generic rectangular black tablet with rounded corners. Thought I saw that years ago on LCD photo frames. And they spent months if not a year on this in court. Seriously Apple, time to move on and actually innovate.
and exactly such things are the reason for me to NOT buy products from apple!!! never!!!
although i have to admit that they are usually well designed... but their childishness really
piss me on!
After buying Apple for 5 years I am getting annoyed with this nonsense.
I have an iPad 2 and an Tab 7.7 and they are so different its a joke.
No iPhone 5 for me; but an S3 (when the price drops a little )
Get a grip Apple.

Well, lets put a bit of spin on this. THIS is the device Apple were worried about.
Hopefully gives Samsung reason to make a 7.7 mkII with a few tweaks just to rub their noses in it.
Maybe a 7.7 Note.

Apple certainly 'innovate' - I don't think anyone has tried patent trolling a product that's already been available a year before your own device comes out, before. Way to go Apple, you've done what was previously considered impossible.
I guess this is what happens when you take a litigation-crazy company and combine it with a cash pile of billions of dollars.

I suspect that Germany has a more lax definition of what constitutes copyright infringement than most other EU countries.
There were 4:3 aspect ratio tablets (Windows) before the iPad -- even had IPS screens. Motion Computing should sue Apple for billions.
The automakers should be suing each other because every car has four tires/tyres. :silly:
After all this Crap I think Apples Pooped in its OWN NEST...
like what another member said in another thread, its Apple's way of telling people in EU to wait for their iPad Mini and to hold off from buying the competitions products
let it be...it is just a beginning of Apple's end.....not able to innovate = not able to compete soon
we know it, Apple knows it, just customers do not know it.....but that is why Apple is so scared of innovations
just say everywhere what iRotten Apple is doing and thats all we can do now

I agree. Also there were tablet computers like the iPad in 1984's movie "2010: The Year We Make Contact". Director Peter Hyams should sue the hell out of apple for copying that design!
This whole sueing thing is getting really ridiculous. Shame on apple for beeing not only childish, but also a bad loser.

At the very least, their tablets not infringing says that Apple does not own the rectangle.

This verdict (and possible future verdicts against Google) isn't the doom and gloom the media is making it out to be. Worst case scenario is slightly more expensive Android devices because Apple will be forced to license under FRAND. Still sucks though.
Yet another reason why I am never ever buying another Apple product. They have patents over industry standards. Samsung is inevitably using those functionalities - similar to how Apple put their own proprietary skin over Xerox's graphical user interface.
Does anyone know what patents were prove to have been infringing? The radio said they were stupid I.e 4 icons on bottom of home screen and other things that have already been changed in newer versions, of touchwiz and ICS?
Dude on radio went on to say this will have aboutly no affect on Android or samsung later?

Also things such as pinch-zoom and double-tap to zoom. Also the 'bounce' animation.
The ridiculous point is that there is plenty of prior art for most of these touch interface aspects dating back decades before Apple's patents. However, Apple was allowed to patent them relating to capacitive screens only.
The USPTO really are a bunch of imbeciles for awarding some of those patents in the first place. Nothing new there.
My personal hope is with the fact Mr. Jobbs is out forever and for good.
Soon Crapple Ltd. will become only the patent troll and not an R&D pusher.
We should expect their inevetable decline and demise in few years.
This was actually the expected outcome. You think that American juries deciding between finding an American or South Korean company guilty in an American court would go against said American company?
Let's narrow it down even more. Silicon Valley juries in a Silicon Valley court deciding that a Silicon Valley company is guilty? No chance. Just like the South Korean court decided both was guilty, but Apple more than Samsung.
Things like this should be decided in a more neutral zone, methinks. Europe comes to mind, since the verdicts of courts there clearly show no obvious bias at all. Everyone gets to win some and lose some. That should get them talking of licensing rather than litigating.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd-dqUuvLk4
^ I saw this in another thread, and IMO it's definitely worth watching.
Sure most of it is common sense, but what if the jury watched this video before they made their decision?...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
actually the whole case seens stupid to me.i do not know any other company which acts stupid as apple about its patents.and many patents seem to be quite stupid.
shall we have round screens now because apple says so?no because apple has a patent for this probably too
europe seems to be a better place for a real decision.
A good read that somewhat confirms my earlier assumptions.
And effects of the verdict doesn't seem to be in Apple's best interest, what with Apple basically admitting that Samsung is the same as Apple...

Samsung loses court case, >$1B

According to USA Today, Samsung lost the vast majority of the substantial patent violation issues in the CA suit with damages of over $1B awarded to Crapple.
Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung is in pretty deep poo just about now. It won't affect OG Epic users, as we are using EOL hardware. But for those of us considering upgrades it might have some impact. I'm thinking long and hard about buying an SGS3 or any other Sammy product right now. They are going to be a mess for at least a year while all of this patent stuff gets worked out.
Anyone else have thoughts on what kind of impact this might have?

I just want to get a Samsung Captive Glide, switch to Net10/Straight Talk, and call it a day. I have no idea what this means as far as downloading or updating apps or updating the system specs or whatever. But that's all I want until the NEXT powerful Android with a keyboard comes out.
Right now I just have the Epic 4G, and when I get $500 I'll get the Captivate Glide. I hope by then nothing hinky happens when I try to activate then unlock it.
The only effect it will have will be Apple's attempt to go after companies like Motorola & HTC. Pinch-to-Zoom is on every android device, I think and they will most likely use this victory to add fuel to their nuke android campaign.
There will be a lot of change to the android software and a lot of change android phone designs that are rectangular.
And last F*** Apple.
As bad as this could be for Samsung, look at it this way, they could come up with something more innovative than apple ever will. Maybe Samsung will be the first manufacturer to use mini-projectors in mobile devices and follow through with those plans. (And patent designs before release)

Well Samsung has been attacking apple for a while on purpose. Look at the adapter module for their chargers looks just like the iPhone Version. And the phone icon looks just like the iOS version. That's about it.No reason to sue its all about advancing technology. I think apple is just trying to get rid of competition. I love Samsung, I love iOS. But I think I'm loosing respect for apple as $1B is a slap in the face. Instead of tearing a company down by suing them. Apple could just make a phone 10X better and Then Samsung would do the same. It would be a continuous loop. That's competition. OH AND APPLE SAMSUUNG PHONES LOOK NOTHINHG LIKE YOUR SMALL 3.5" SCREEN DESIGN.

How much different can a phone icon look and still be recognized as a phone icon? Was apple the first company ever to make something rectangular with rounded edges? Were they the first to make a user interface with squares? How can they patent this stuff and sue over it? Its the most generic stuff. Ridiculous. And they sued their largest partner, who makes about 90% of the components in the iPhone/iPad. Apple seems to be done innovating. They take features from Android and then try to make them sound revolutionary. Then, they sue the companies actually innovating and make their products delayed or taken off shelves. The iPhone 1 was revolutionary and really made the smartphone market the way it is today (everyone has one, not just geeks or business people). But they haven't done anything since then. They've made the camera better, screen a bit better, and changed processor.

[Q] The real outcome for Apple v. Samsung

After reading and panicking about the possibility of losing key features on my phone I seem to have come across a common consensus, the case will be appealed and most likely patents probably nullified. Now this is all speculation of course and take it with a grain of salt, but this seems to be the only documented effect from this case (read below article)
https://plus.google.com/u/0/114476892281222708332/posts/246srfbqg6G
so stop panicking my friends
Whatever the outcome I could never, NEVER go back to to an iPhone now. Far to inferior for my needs as a serious smartphone user, even with jb some things were still to long winded.

Apple is just for those social climbers who think they look cool if they have an apple device with them.. They dont realize that Apple is just ripping them off..
Lets face it, If Steve Jobs wasnt the man he was, Then apple wouldnt be where it is today.
Im not defending either of them, But the figures speak for themselves. Apple is the most popular product out there, Although hardly any of their devices are made themselves, Using Samsung parts (then suing them ?!? WTF !?!) and LG screens ect ect.
Maybe they are so popular because the majority of the world has been brainwashed ? Or because the devices are easy to use, Packed with features, Sync anything and everything where ever you want, Keep upto date with the world all at your fingertips ?
Not everyone is a Hacker / Modder, So the iphone / pad is perfect for them. If i where to buy a tab, Id probably get a samsung one, Because I have a samsung phone and could do cool stuff between the 2 devices, Same goes with iPhone & iPad.
If something is deemed 'cool' then it becomes a craze and people follow like 'sheep' So someone gets an iPhone, Shows it off, others want one, then they show it off and more people want one etc etc etc.
There are a lot of bad people in the world, Deal with it, Whether you think steve jobs was a d1ck or an idol is upto you.
But thats business! screw people over to make millions.
