Hello,
I bought my phone a couple of weeks ago. At first, I didn't notice it, but after a few days I began to realize that the phone discharges completely after less than a day. I looked up and found the battery thread where I saw people going on about how happy they are with battery life, but others complaining about it draining real fast.
I found out all about wakelocks, and fast dormancy etc, and tweaked everything to the max, but the drain was still going on like crazy.
I thought maybe the stock ROM is bad and I need to use something different, and was about to flash, but then as a last resort I decided to try another sim card - I have 2 cards on the same line, one of which I use for my ipad - and swapped it.
Ever since, all the problems are gone! I even enabled fast dormancy again and I see that I have ~1% per hour drain when the phone sits still...
So, to anyone having large drains from cell standby with no simple and obvious explanation, I suggest trying to swap your sim card!
Hope this helps someone...
How can the sim card cause battery drain?
I'm still using the simcard from my last phone, though I still have the new simcard that came with the s3 but its not activated yet.
A guess is that the simcard caused connectivity issues and as such threw the phone out of fast dormancy all the time.

Lucky you, my provider decided to disable the old sim card when they handed me the S3. By consequence I could not, as promised, call my gf who got mad at me ^^

we cannot have 2 different sim cards of the same no. in our area.
btw, does your sim card have different specifications? which one is newer?

The second one is newer, but was meant to be a data sim and had "Laptop" written on it, though it accepted and made calls just fine, but did not get sms until I asked it to be configured as the primary. Both of them were cut out from regular sim cards, because the providers here decide it is funny to charge around 25$ for giving you the same product with less 1 gram of plastic on it...
Today I got a normal micro sim (I guess they thought I already had one, and replacement is free) and it is also working completely fine.
I think the contacts in the old sim were causing high resistance because they were really worn out, and thus some extra power was lost on them.
I'm pretty sure most companies offer an extra sim to put into a car phone. Here it costs around an extra 1.50$ a month. In any case, my point wasn't about switching between 2 sim cards, but rather that a new sim card might cause less drain. You can believe it or not, but it worked for me. I can post before and after screenshots even.
So has anyone tried changing Sims for better battery life with success?
Same with me. I was having 2-3 % drop per hours, not sometimes the battery remains at 100% after 2 hours of inactivity

Hey guys, i've had my PPC 6800 (bell) for about slightly over a year now.
Recently i've noticed that the battery is dying instantly every time i make a call or access the internet. It can go from 90% down to 6% in a matter of seconds. I've tried differnt firmwares and nothing helps at all. Anyone got any ideas? Is my phone kicking the can..? or is it my battery?
Thanks for the help
I would say it's the battery. I had same thing after about a year too. Mine would go down even if I wasn't using the phone. I thought it was the phone's fault so I called Verizon and they sent me a new phone. But battery acted the same. So I bought another battery. All is fine now!
it could also be a problem with the phone. Does it get really hot during the drain periods. I had on that did and it was just defective.
hmm well it acts normally when i'm just using the GUI (aka just playing games etc), however everytime i access data or call, the battery dies in several minutes. I'm gonna try upgrading the battery i guess, its a shame they're just so expensive
You can get oem ones cheap on ebay. Or even the cheaper chinese ones
Could ya tell me if this battery would be compatable?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25024
Or could you recommend any other sites/links to get a cheap batt from?
thanks again
It would work and it is the same as the cheap extended ones on ebay. The battery is of great quality but it should last. I look at the cheap ones this way. I can buy at least 3 of them for the price of a name brand one. This allows me to buy them if they fail cheap.
i owned the hd2 before we could load android without using the sd card.. i may get one and come back to the hd2
1. i am on att, can i unlock the tmobile hd2 for use on att? can i use my iphone micro sim?
2. how is the battery life on the android builds using nand?
3. it looks like there is a TON of devs working with the hd2, is that still true?
thanks all. hope to come back
Yes you can unlock the TMo phone and use it on AT&T. That's really the only bad thing about NAND Android on the HD2 is battery life, you might get a days use out of it with light use but if you're moderate/heavy expect only 3/4/5 hours battery life max.
Your microsim won't work directly as only iPhones use micro-sim but you can easily get a little adapter to make it a full size again.

Ever since i bought my G3 i was experiencing heating issue. Despite the v10j update, my phone was heating up. The battery life was also so so.
Everytime i ran antutu, my phone used to reboot. I gave my phone to LG service center and they finally helped me pin point the fault in my device. The sim card that i was using was some 4-5 year old and i had coverted it to a micro sim by cutting out the edges using a stapler like cutter.
This was what caused all the issues in my phone, Now when i have bought a new smart sim, that is pre cut and comes in with an adapter, i face no heating issues whatsoever. Besides, my battery life has increased significantly. Switching to ART gave another boost to performance. I am connected to wifi all day, my battery lasts 30+hrs and i get 4.5 to 5 hour SOT.
In a nutshell,
Dont use self-cut SIM cards, rather go for a factory made micro SIM.
Switch to ART, Its the new king.
Very strange that it would act like this. I wonder what about a cut sim card that would make the phone do this.

Exactly, being an electronic & communication engineer, my mind also got boggled on hearing this, but the service center guys have daily life experiences, so they could figure out the fault. Besides maybe, my SIM might have been faulty over years of usage.
I was wondering if anyone is returning their phone after getting the US version, and having some issues with it, im thinking of sending it back to NewEgg.
What's the issues that you are facing?

If you've already done a reset, I think you should return yours. There should be no lag, Antutu should be around 48000, and screen on time at least 4 hours.
I'm facing some issue with my AZP 2 4GB Version.
1. Sim 1 4G Sim network goes in every mins. If i use 3G or 2G sim in Sim 1 slot it works fine. with 4G sim it gives an error as well Unfortunately, the process com.phone has stopped. Did factor reset. I was on firmware 2.15 when i did that. Yesterday i has=d upgraded to V2.17. need to test again with 4G sim. Is it the same or still had an isuse. If yes than i'll return the phone with cash back.
2. Circle Flip cover does not work. I have purchased it in Rs. 499 and after applying the cover, nothing happens.
3. 2 to 3 times a day i have an error Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped
What should i do??
Help

Whats the solution to battery life and overheating during regular use (not on the charger)?
You realize your issues with heat build during charging are because of the fast-charge technology, right? Totally normal, as a ton of power is flowing into the phone. You can always use a slow charger to charge the phone while in use. You shouldn't have any heat build up during use when not also charging. I know I don't. The hottest the phone gets is slightly warm.

For overheating, use a different adapter if you have the 1.8 GHz version. Battery life, just get a third party battery saver and turn on airplane mode. That will save you a ton of battery. I did it for mine and the phone last from 6 A.M to 10 P.M.

Very dependent on ambient temperatures as well.
Anandtech has confirmed that the panel in the ZF2 is inefficient compared to competitors, so not much can be done about that aspect. Their analysis of the phone is in depth, as are their other reviews.
I would like to return mine because the battery is performing right under the Optimus G I owned. With 3000mAh I was looking forward to battery comparable to the G2. If the next OTA improves battery, then I'll keep the Asus.

Dang, so the bad battery is a hardware related (screen tech) issue based on that review.

No offense, but I don't think that solution would work for me or other people who want to use the phone. Turning off all of the radios with AirPlane mode mades it a unless paperweight.

Yeah. The people from Anandtech are pretty good at evaluating devices. Also this would explain why the battery drains rapidly during use & barely when inactive. Battery life is very important to me, so a phone with a removable battery might be best.

One thing to keep in mind, is that though the display uses a lot of power, the Intel chip itself seems very efficient. Not only does it sleep well, but as is shown in the PCMark testing on the Anand website, it uses its power very efficiently. Thus, though the phone's maximum display on time is much lower than the other phones, its practical usage time is fairly similar. I get around 5 hours screen on time with 1-2 days of sleep time.

For me getting even 4hrs is requiring me to disable apps, use greenify to kill background apps, and use min brightness. I tried factory resets, so doing those over and over isn't improving my battery. Honestly I just want a new phone with the battery life of my G2, since development is slowing down for it.

Now hold on guys. Even if this phone has some battery issues, we can all still say that this phone is very acceptable. Right?

Besides battery I don't have any performance complaints. This is the main aspect I complain about. I'm still impressed that mine rarely warms up, signal is better than my G2, the battery cover has the brushed look like my Asus laptop, and so on.

Hello,
I have always had problems with this phone since i got it in 2013 where I always got awful battery life on 3G (not for Wi-Fi or LTE) where the battery drops pretty quick and when I use it continuously the top part gets so hot it's impossible to touch (75°C). Since I tried every possible rom/bl/csc/modem/sim/network I'm starting to think this was never an issues with me but with the hardware. I wanna say goodbye to this nightmare buying a new phone and it would be pretty cool to finally get an answer.
Is there anyone with similar results?
I only got such temperatures while playing games like GTA San Andreas.
It does get warm while downloading stuff over Wi-Fi or mobile data, but no 75 °C.
That's what I thought. Thanks.
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505 utilizzando Tapatalk
If anyone is interested in testing for me. What I do to get that heat is just switch to 3G and then use chrome for a few minutes. It will soon peak to 75-78°C and become unbearable to touch under the Samsung logo, along with pretty fast battery drain. One you switch back to WiFi or LTE the heat goes down and it will just stay hot but nothing worrying. The position seems to point where the modem is. I tried to clean contacts inside and fix with a heatgun but nothing worked. The strange things is that it happens only with 3G AND it drains the battery also and it doesn't affect where the GSM antenna is. This is really weird.
I realized this issue only a few months ago when my provider covered my area uniformly with 4G and seen that it would not heat as much as I was used to.
The same as my problem
