Hello,
I have always had problems with this phone since i got it in 2013 where I always got awful battery life on 3G (not for Wi-Fi or LTE) where the battery drops pretty quick and when I use it continuously the top part gets so hot it's impossible to touch (75°C). Since I tried every possible rom/bl/csc/modem/sim/network I'm starting to think this was never an issues with me but with the hardware. I wanna say goodbye to this nightmare buying a new phone and it would be pretty cool to finally get an answer.
Is there anyone with similar results?
I only got such temperatures while playing games like GTA San Andreas.
It does get warm while downloading stuff over Wi-Fi or mobile data, but no 75 °C.
That's what I thought. Thanks.
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505 utilizzando Tapatalk
If anyone is interested in testing for me. What I do to get that heat is just switch to 3G and then use chrome for a few minutes. It will soon peak to 75-78°C and become unbearable to touch under the Samsung logo, along with pretty fast battery drain. One you switch back to WiFi or LTE the heat goes down and it will just stay hot but nothing worrying. The position seems to point where the modem is. I tried to clean contacts inside and fix with a heatgun but nothing worked. The strange things is that it happens only with 3G AND it drains the battery also and it doesn't affect where the GSM antenna is. This is really weird.
I realized this issue only a few months ago when my provider covered my area uniformly with 4G and seen that it would not heat as much as I was used to.
The same as my problem

I tried everything you can image it's independent from ROM, bootloader, modem, sd card, tw or custom roms.

From many users of xperia x10 who are using firmware version 2.3.3(official update) i ve heard that the phone gets heated up while on 3G connection while on wifi there is no such problem. Even I had similar problem. I really did an in-depth study in this matter it came to my notice that many got their battery changed some got motherboard replaced, but still most of them are not satisfied and hadnt got a solution for this particular problem.
Facing this problem I was really frustrated. I tried all methods like rooting, using custom kernel etc. Then it came to my mind that all this started to happen after I did official update to 2.3.3. For about 1 year i couldnt figure it out. Even if surrounding temperature increased the phone would reboot. this situation was really ridiculous. Tried and tested in many conditions I found out that after flashing to the firmware that the handset came first from factory ie 2.1update there is no problem of heating up or rebooting. I agree many functionality are not there in 2.1 when compared to 2.3.3. but u can be rest assured that ur phone wont get heated up and reboot while using 3G.
Conclusion
Tried on 3 different Xperia X10i 's the problem got solved...... If u really want to use X10i with 2.3.3 then its possible only if u can keep the phone cool by having a dedicated table fan or AC blower directly blowing on to ur xperia X10i while on 3G Connection

I tried everything including the 2.1update firmaware and still the same problem. Some x10 get fixed with new batterys, some with replacing the motherboard and others with downgrading the software, its not the same for everyone.
I have one which has everything (screen, keyboard, MB, battery, etc.) replaced except the SIM card, I had 2 other phones to steal parts from, still overheats and shuts off I think SIM cards play a role in this too.
It's funny when I said the same thing I was harassed as a liar.
But it's true.
You want 3G get a PC fan and glue it to your x10.
The X10 is a failure as a android device "phone"
Gets hotter than hell.
The internal cellular radio eats the battery.
Proof of concept.. switch to flight mode.
Using 3G for a extended time will most definitely kill the device.
That little black thing I think helps keep the dust out of your phone but since I remove them(around 5) it does not SEEM to heat up as much as before.
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
I removed my cover off of the X10.
Its basically a screen and mobo wide open.
Still heat rises.
3G is not usable on the x10.

It's not for every users, some because of battery, sometime due to board related, etc.
But. ... yeah Mugen is better, using it for months and very satisfied, also have a good temp result,

battery (sh***t), keep pushing us to buy their new product
you will laugh at me.
I found the solution
use adhesive tape on the SIM card and this prevents contact failure and overheating.
So far I can use 3g, wifi, wireless network without problems, without reboots!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
WOW. It worked for me.

Photo of me in -1C weather and phone battery 27C.
Photo of me play modern Combat for half an hour and battery 27C
Photo of me and my phone with battery 27C
Photo of me download a 3.5GB mkv video and battery 27C
Does anyone see a pattern emerging here?
After market batteries I've used do not return the temperature and will remain at a default of 27C.
I know this is true for my Mugen 1800mAh battery in my XPERIA X10i and a PISEN 1750mAh battery in my XPERIA LT26i
HDMI and an XPERIA S can get well over 40C before the device monitor shuts the phone down and or etc.
With my PISEN 1750mAh battery, it's 27C all the way... which is scary when you know the temp is increasing and nothing to curb it.
Just something to confirm and/or be aware of if found to be true with other after market batteries.
P.S. Oh and the fixed battery in an XPERIA LT26i can be replaced with a LT25i (XPERIA V) battery as my PISEN battery was for a LT25i (BA800). NFC is not hampered by aftermarket battery in my case.
Are we likely to see a fix for this? We know there is a problem with 3G drinking battery but how likely are we to see a fix. Solutions like disable 3G aren't viable for a lot of people, so I just wondered what peoples thoughts on this were.
Try changing your modem. You should see a slight improvement in battery life, nothing major but still better than nothing.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah a modem did help but I still had a big problem. Are we likely to see a fix, I remember this being a problem with ICS which is why I reverted back.
Its not the modem. My phone stock uses the XXKG3 modem, and i have been using that on ICS and now into JB. Jellybean definitely has worse battery concerning 3G / H for some reason. I just barely squeeze a day out of mine.
Yeah, I was struggling to get even a day. I tried almost all of the Jelly Bean ROMs and they all suffered from the same problem. I really wanted to stick with JB, especially C-ROM because it was like a dream to use but on a good day I'd get about 7 or 8 hours maybe? I would always have to plug it in twice a day. Currently trying SauROM which is better but I'm starting to think that the best for battery life is genuinely a stock rom like JVS.

did you limited your speed to 3g or do you also use hsdpa? if you use hsdpa, give 3g a try i think the battery drain in 3g is a lot lower ... in my opinion if you are not downloading 3g is fast enough to browse or youtube.
for just instant messaging you can give 2g a try
2G isn't really usable on Three mobile.
I don't know how to limit to just 3G. But yes I normally use HSPDA. That said, we should be able to use it without draining our battery
I'm not getting any major battery drain here. I can last a full day on HSDPA and or WiFi.

You CAN limit to just 3G. You have to go to Advanced Settings or Galaxy S Settings (depends on a ROM) and go to HSDPA and put it to UMTS mode only. It'll switch it to 3G and will consume less battery

in my opinion, thats the point, go to settings/advanced/RADIO in your case hsdpa + hsupa should be ticket, simply tick umts an you should notice, the changing radio icon in the status bar (no longer h, but 3g).
your 3g and hspa power consumption depends really strong from the signal strenght and in your phone is connected constantly or changes often. bad reception causes a large waist of battery power.

On slim 2.9, I found that removing G now, and turning off all location tracking increased battery life. Now I can get a day and about an hour/90mins of screen on time with data/wifi only on when using it. I suppose after more than 2 years of use on the one battery charging every day or more, there's only so much one can expect from a device and battery.
But isn't it recognized that this is a problem? The 3G Bug? Nothing to do with Google Now etc

in my opinion thats not enough, do you mean 24 hours or 16 hours? could be a little more with 90 mins of screen time, but you shouldnt need more.

Okay aside from me not having a computer to be able to develop on I still use my Note 3 and yes I am a flashaholic so I do continue to test other developers ROMs and find something that works for me. I am having some really bad battery drain issues on my Note 3 and it gets VERY hot.. i mean like really hot! First off let me say that I don't have warranty on it so i can't send it back to get another one. Whenever I use the phone for pretty much anything it starts to get hot and then battery drains like 20% every 20 min or so. I've tried flashing multiple ROMs and even using stock.. yeah STOCK. But each and everything that I have tried just doesn't help. I am at the point of like smashing my phone on the wall or something lol. Please if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. If i can't get this thing fixed then I will no longer be a Samsung Fanboy (that's a lie) lol. But thanks in advanced!

I had this problem with my old razr, it didn't get as hot as you say but the battery did drain really fast. If I were you I'd buy a new battery and see if you have the same problem. It's not uncommon to have a shot battery. Although, I'm not exactly sure what could be causing the overheating. You could possibly try putting it back to stock, calling Verizon and explaining to them that your battery is dying really fast and the indicator will jump percentages really fast. They may replace it...."may". Tell them you have done nothing to do it and have tried everything on the internet to fix it. What's the worst that can happen, they say no? Good luck man.

Before I made this post I did some research and found that the sd card may be the problem. I have had it removed for around 2 weeks. I also took the sim card out and still nothing works. If Samsung doesn't send me another one then I will switch to Moto.
Running apps have a factory Mode running? That's what used to make my phone hot.

If yes than i'll return the phone with cash back.
2. Circle Flip cover does not work. I have purchased it in Rs. 499 and after applying the cover, nothing happens.

Whats the solution to battery life and overheating during regular use (not on the charger)?
You realize your issues with heat build during charging are because of the fast-charge technology, right? Totally normal, as a ton of power is flowing into the phone. You can always use a slow charger to charge the phone while in use. You shouldn't have any heat build up during use when not also charging. I know I don't. The hottest the phone gets is slightly warm.

For overheating, use a different adapter if you have the 1.8 GHz version. Battery life, just get a third party battery saver and turn on airplane mode. That will save you a ton of battery. I did it for mine and the phone last from 6 A.M to 10 P.M.

Very dependent on ambient temperatures as well.
Anandtech has confirmed that the panel in the ZF2 is inefficient compared to competitors, so not much can be done about that aspect. Their analysis of the phone is in depth, as are their other reviews.
I would like to return mine because the battery is performing right under the Optimus G I owned. With 3000mAh I was looking forward to battery comparable to the G2. If the next OTA improves battery, then I'll keep the Asus.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
Dang, so the bad battery is a hardware related (screen tech) issue based on that review.

Yeah. The people from Anandtech are pretty good at evaluating devices. Also this would explain why the battery drains rapidly during use & barely when inactive. Battery life is very important to me, so a phone with a removable battery might be best.

One thing to keep in mind, is that though the display uses a lot of power, the Intel chip itself seems very efficient. Not only does it sleep well, but as is shown in the PCMark testing on the Anand website, it uses its power very efficiently. Thus, though the phone's maximum display on time is much lower than the other phones, its practical usage time is fairly similar. I get around 5 hours screen on time with 1-2 days of sleep time.

For me getting even 4hrs is requiring me to disable apps, use greenify to kill background apps, and use min brightness. I tried factory resets, so doing those over and over isn't improving my battery. Honestly I just want a new phone with the battery life of my G2, since development is slowing down for it.

Now hold on guys. Even if this phone has some battery issues, we can all still say that this phone is very acceptable. Right?

Besides battery I don't have any performance complaints. This is the main aspect I complain about. I'm still impressed that mine rarely warms up, signal is better than my G2, the battery cover has the brushed look like my Asus laptop, and so on.

Hello!
Just got a note 4 from my friend to play with since he's not using it anymore. The problem is that the phone heats up a lot whenever its on, even if the screen is off.
My guess is that the processor receives too much power from the battery? Or is it possible that the problem is related to the CPU? Or is it the battery?
Right now im tempted to buy a new replacement battery just to see if the battery is the problem. But i hope for some advice if you guys have experienced this before. Thanks!
Update 1: Changed the battery. The drain is much slower compared to before but the phone still gets really hot. Any idea why?
I have the same problem. I am not sure why overheating happens but I think about few things: constant Wi-Fi activity, a lot of installed apps, low free memory.
I just ordered a battery to see if its the problem
Yesterday my phone was very hot and very slow. I thought battery can't be the reason but I was wrong. I replaced my few months used battery with my old one and phone worked normally. So battery can be the reason for overheating.

BlissRom is very old, did u try anything new like Nemesis? It has very good kernel also, SpaceLemon. Try it and see if your problems are solved.

I tried nemesis and erobot but they were pretty laggy since i had to use minimum clock speeds or else it gets hard to hold the phone cause of the heat. Also i think one of them had spacelemon kernel but i couldnt change the clock speeds and the phone became unbearably hot so i quicky changed to bliss then superstock
Got a new battery today will pop it in when i get home.

When im in the OS yes it does. But when i was in TWRP last night it was pretty normal unlike the time before the new battery. Also the idle drain is disturbingly fast i left it on last night and when i woke up today it was fully drained. Still trying to find out if there are apps causing the drain
Maybe latest firmware cause that. I am planning to flash 5.1.

I will also try that
Please post the results.
It runs relatively cooler (like cool enough that i can use it without a case without burning my hand, it just gets warm) on rulinglite rom which is on the 5.1.1 version so it does have something to do with the firmware maybe. The battery still drains too much though even in safe mode so im not sure anymore on whats the problem on my note 4

Unfortunately nothing i try fixes the overheating i read at a note 5 forum that his phone overheats constantly because of the too many charging cycles probably damaged the motherboard. I think that might be the cause of overheating here too.
Also no problem with unmounting or anything else. Just the overheating and the massive battery drain even when the screen is off

Sad to say that these note 4's probably cant be used as daily drivers anymore i have to charge mine to every 3 hours lol since thats all the battery life it can give on a single full charge
Such a shame since the screen is so good and the camera is super crisp too. I will probably just use it for some daylight photography haha
Have you tried simpl rom?
Using genuine samsung batteries or 3rd party?
NFC on,bluetooth etc?
Tried with mem card and sim out?
Which model you have, exynos or qualcomm?
Have 2x910C here and no probs.

I have C version of Note 4. I bought new battery but I still have problem with overheating and random memory card unmounting. I have a lot of applications and latest firmware. I didn't tried to use 5.1.1 firmware and don't know how to solve this problem.
