Hello,
I want to flash my device with 1.66.707.1 rom. I can't download it via HTC official page.
Now I have few questions. According to that I couldn't download it from HTC official page in my country because I've got inappropriate S/N. May I install it on my radio if I supply good (fake) S/N to official HTC page?
I even didn't tray to do this because I'm afraid I can turn my HD2 a into brick.
I don't care about language. I think that after flashing ROM I can download a proper language pack.
Greats.
invalid serial means your phone is vendor locked. (eg t mobile, vodafone or whatever)
even if you download using a different serial the upgrade will fail saying "vendor id mismatch" or something similar.
in theory you need to wait for your vendor to release the update, however in reality installing hspl will allow you to instal the update without getting the error.
go read the hspl threads.
Easy to sey .
It's my first Windows Mobile based phone. I've never installed rom, and yet a cooked one.
I've have some bugs about which I've read on this forum. Those are:
* lack of virtual keyboard while creating a new text message (or any app which need it)
* error while starting digital camera.
All of that disappear after soft reset. That's why I want to install the newest rom.
To not start a new thread is there any way to find out if the rom which I downloaded from HTC suits to my phone? S/N is correct. If I start RUU it will start flashing my device, yes?
Another question. Is it true that every HTC Leo has 576MB RAM but it is locked down?
read this then, it has all the info you need on flashing your phone...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
once HSPL is installed you can download an official WWE ROM from this thread and run it as if it were an official ROM for your phone...

As EddyOS stated, go read my flashing guide THOROUGHLY!!
1. Install HardSPL on your device (best done using WindowsXP or Windows7 32bit).
2. Download the Rom you require from the download site provided and flash using the instructions provided in my guide.
3. Enjoy your new phone
Once you have HardSPL on your phone it will be protected from bad flashes and you will be able to flash stock or custom roms or radios as and when you require. HardSPL is definitely reccommended as it has probably saved hundreds of phone from being turned into paperweights when flashing a bad rom or flashing incorrectly.
If you want to try a custom rom then I would definitely recommend the one in my signature but its totally upto you what you decide to put on your device.
With regards to the 576MB Ram it does seem that its actually accessible but only using the newer 2.02 Roms with specific Radios. This has been tested and verified. It wont be accessible on a 1.66 stock rom though.

- What ROM were you trying to flash and what ROM version (and language) do you have on your device?
- Is your device Branded?
- Did you flash HSPL?
- Did you see a progress bar on screen when flashing, or just the colored bars?
- When you get to the tricolor-screen (bootloader) and you connect to your PC, does it say USB after a few seconds, or does it say Serial?
- What went wrong at 24%? Did you unplug the phone, did your system crash, or were you just being inpatient?
If you answer the above questions, someone may be able to help you. Also, start by reading the stickies.
Rom was 1.48.479.1 and I wanted to replace it with 1.48.479.1 because some bugs were annoying me which I mentioned earlier.
Yes my device is branded but it doesn't have simlock.
No I didn't used HSPL because I downloaded rom from HTC using my own original S/N.
When I was flashing I saw brogress bar with HTC logo.
I have those tri-colour screen when I power on the device, but before that I have warning triangle. No it doesn't say Serial nor USB.
What went wrong. I swear I don't know. No, no, no I wasn't impatient. After it hanged on 24% I got error message from the program on PC with UPGRADE ERROR. I've tried to resume like the program said me. But without any effect. What I did was unplug; put aut battery; wait 3 seconds; put battery in; power on and plug in. I'm sure that I was doing everything right because I was following the program.

If i have 1.48 and with my serial can`t download 1.66... it is recommended to install WWE 1.66 with serials posted here without HSPL? my device is also WWE and was only sim locked Vodafone. (non-branded)
If you have questions regarding rom or hardspl flashing please ask in the correct thread.
if,when you put your serial into htc website, it doesn't allow you to download, then you MUST use hspl to flash an unbranded rom.
@y0ystet. your phone is branded. sim lock its not connected to vendor lock.instal hspl and try again, same rom.
@lakhbeer, did you flash hspl first? more detail please, messed up? doesn't work?
@rayman your phone is vodafone locked.
I repeat, the htc website doesn't accept your serial, you are provider locked and that is not connected to sim lock/unlock.
I sent an e-mail to HTC about that. They said I can send the phone to them.
I found sth out. If I hold the volume down and connect the usb cable I have a message on my screen. On screen which have three colours on green I have: "Upgrade Rom code error. Please try again" And on the white I have: "Serial".
Is there anything I can do about that?
But don't say me to flash witch the HSPL. I won't do that on two reasons:
I've never do that
If I send it to service I'll void my warranty.
What would you suggest to do?
I've solved the problem .

How to fix ROM error on VODAFONE UK solution
I also have a HTC HD2 bought from Vodafone.
I flashed my mobile and installed Pandora 1.4 ROM...it was always freezing my Leo every time I looked at docs tab, so I decided to install shipped Leo ROM 1.66 and that is when things went wrong, same problem as you have now, so I downloaded h**p://w w w .4shared.com/file/205652004/1bf6c7ce/RUU_Leo_Vodafone_UK_1434051_Ra.html
aka the original ROM from Vodafone UK and it is working now....but now I am no sure if I wanna try more roms because next time I can be stuck with error screen forever.....
Hi all,
I know how often these threads come up and I'm sorry to be posting one myself. I have used the search function to help me sort the problem out, but I just seem to be stuck.
Ok, so I had 1.48 official WWE ROM on my HD2 and thought of upgrading to a custom ROM unlocking the 576mb RAM.I used the following 'Lost in Asia Preloaded' ROM.
I did a HSPL before this and went on to install the ROM. The installation was unsuccessful and all I was getting was the white HTC screen from startup. Even after taking the battery out/red button reset, the problem was not fixed. I searched around a bit and did the following:
'you should get your stock rom, ONLY your stock rom, extract the file ruu_signed.nbh. copy that file to your sd card formatted to fat 32 rename the file to leoimg.nbh. phone off. hold volume down. tap power (keep volume held). phone should boot to three colors screen and start to flash.
this will ONLY work with original rom.'
This installation was unsuccessful as well and now the phone will not turn on and I'm getting an exclamation mark in a black screen.
Could anyone please help me out? Sorry for being a noob at this, I don't get the chance to keep myself updated about all the advancements in ROM development.
Thanks in advance for your help.
heh, seeing as you are quoting me I'll have a go at helping.
my first thought is that you didn't use the correct stock rom.
where is the phone from? did you buy it outright or on contract?
what country are you (was it bought) in?
Question 2 - can you get in to bootloader? (power off, making sure there is NOT a leoimg file on sd card, hold down volume, tap power, keeping down vol pressed till it starts to three coloured screen)
If you can get to that screen, look for the SPL bit, what does it say?
Hopefully something like 1.42.0000 or 1.42.HSPL?
Hey thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I did use your advice from a different thread.
Answer to the first question: I got this on contract from T Mobile UK in November.
Answer to the second question: I had a look again on the initial advice by you, saying that I should use the original ROM file. as stated before it was 1.48 and I was using 1.66 to fix the phone. Using the 1.48 image file has now brought the phone back to life and it now seems to be working fine. But I am stuck on 1.48.
About the SPL: Volume button held down and tapping the power button brings up a screen showing SPL-1.42.0000 XE
I wanted to upgrade to a more recent version of the ROM namely 1.66.707.1 with a more recent Radio version as well. Though flashing a recent custom ROM would be the answer. more ram would not hurt as well! Any help about how I might be able to go about this? a link to the right guide would be helpful as well.
Heh, glad its sorted. Heres a few pointers.
Your stock rom is the T Mo uk wwe 1.48 rom. Keep a copy of that handy just in case you ever break it again. That one will always (well, nearly always) take your phone back to stock if you do the sd card method with the leoimg file.
When you are flashing, you should idealy always use USB method, NOT sd card method - Reason? because flashing an official (eg 1.66) rom using sd card will not only overwrite your original rom, but also overwrite the phones SPL (including HSPL, thats how to uninstal HSPL for warranty purposes).
For flashing both official roms, or cooked roms, you should instal HSPL and then use USB method to flash the rom.(Same goes for flashing radios)
The only time you need to use sd card method is when you want to go back to factory default, and then you should only do so with that T Mo UK file.
If you flash a bad rom that wont boot, no problem, because HSPL will still be installed, because you used USB method, , , so just pick a different ROM and flash again from the pc, over USB, job done.
SD card flashing is risky unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing.
To move to 1.66 (or in fact any rom you like) do this
Instal HSPL
run the 1,66 installer from the PC (NOT SD CARD!)
wait for it to flash
Done.
Great thread guys!
Do we really install HSPL? because if the installed one is the official 1.48... the official 1.66 should be instalable by USB, right?. this is my case and I'm a little confused...
Qq
In my opinion it is best to install HSPL, and then instal the updated (or cooked) rom using USB, that way your SPL is protected by HSPL.
Put simply, you want to protect your SPL, and the best way to do that is to avoid flashing using sd card. With HSPL installed you CAN install any cooked rom, and you CAN install the official updates (1.66) with no effect to your SPL.
I should point out that if you do NOT have your original stock rom available you won't be able to uninstal HSPL in the event of needing to return the phone, but if you DO have it available, (or you dont mind the possible warranty void) then go for it.

If your phone lets you instal 1.66 via usb without HSPL then go right ahead, using USB will not affect your SPL. If you are provider locked, and there is no provider 1.66 available (example o2 uk havent released a 1.66) then you can instal HSPL and then use the HTC 1.66.
I am still on rom 1.43 as 02 UK network say that they are still testing Rom 1.48. I have been on the htc website and they state that I can't update to 1.66 as the phone is branded to 02.
This is really stressing me out as 02 are useless and are not bothered, htc keep saying contact your provider
What are my options to make this a de branded phone.
I knew I should of bought a de branded phone
What version of spl do you have. If it is 1.42.0000 you can use hspl and flash to whichever rom you want. Just check that you can get a backup copy of your current rom as a backup in the event you ever need to return to stock for warranty purposes.
You'll find all of the necessary information here
I have an O2 phone just like yours and did exactly what ClydeB1 said. I first found the stock O2 ROM I was going to replace (links are in the stickies in this forum) and put the image on the SD card that O2 so kindly supplied, for us to revert back to their stock ROM. Then I followed all the information on this site to put HSPL on, and I've been flashing like a pervert ever since. Not to mention MTTY and HARD RESET!
just a note i got my HD2 O2 handset and it came with 1.48??

mmm sounds good cos i was taking on twitter to o2 and they said all o2 hd2's will be released with the orignal rom, just on another subject am getting a hd2 from o2 nest week and have just seen on there site they have put the prices up!!!!
Prob got it from a 3rd party and they provided an 'unbranded' HD2 so it's on HTCs normal ROMs
02 are awful for customer support.
firmware
1.43 70315
correction - serial works on HTC website. i put in the IMEI number instead
:embarrassed:
Got my HD 2 from o2 online shop and it seems like they have given me an unbranded phone, updated to 1.66 no probs. Guess I'm lucky for once in my life! Maybe I should start playing the lottery?
Had my HD2 last week, cames with 1.43, cannot update via HTC, BUT nothign wrong with 1.43, so no rush for me, when (if ) O2 release an update, i will, but I'm not fussed tbh.
a few notes to using HSPL for users locked to o2 roms.
1 - go HERE, see the first post, first link, look for the 1.43 folder, in there is a ROM with o2 in the name. That is your get out of jail free card. Download the file
RUU_Le2_UK_1.43.206.4_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship.exe
This file is actually a zip file.
Right click the file, choose extract here (Or, change the filename to .zip instead of .exe) inside is a file called RUU_signed.nbh. That is the ROM. SHould you need to gat back to factory conditions, put that file on your sd card, rename it leoimg.nbh reboot the phone into bootloader, it will flash the rom, the radio, and most importanlty the SPL back to how they were when you got the phone.
Once you have that file, keep it safe. You can now go to the HSPL thread, download and instal HSPL (use a USB port in the back of your PC, for some reason HSPL doesn't play nice through USB ports in the PC case, or through hubs, or card readers, etc)
Now that HSPL is on your device, you can flash ANYTHING you like USING USB. Roms, radios, whatever.
The only time you should use SD card from now on is to flash teh stock 1.43 rom. Flashing ANY OTHER stock rom from sd card will cause you problems.
The firmware on it was 1.48.405.2, S/N HT9CSNW01982
Couldn't download the update from the HTC site with this serial, it said that the download is not suitable for this device.
Tried to flash using the exe and active sync, but at 1% would say "error [294] invalid vendor id"
Tried to install HARDSPL, but it was unable to connect to the device, though it was connected to active sync, and HSPL did manage to bring out the bootloader.
So I used mtty without HARDSPL, which bricked it.
Now it doesn't boot, it just stops at the first screen with the green HTC on white background
I've tried hard factory reset, but it's no help
If I try to flash from SD with any stock ROM, it displays "00028002 not allow"
It boots the bootloader, as follows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.0000 XE
MicroP(Led) 0x05
MicroP(touch) 0x30
I don't know if it was branded and then unlocked, the guy I've bought it from said he got it retail and it was never locked. I can't be shure about that, all I know is that it's bought from UK
Can anything be done or should I start using it as a paperweight?
mtty has removed your operating system so of course it won't boot.
enter bootloader, flash a rom, fixed.
I tried to flash from SD with stock ROM, but it displays "00028002 not allow"
I used 1.48.405.2 from the HTC site (which was supposed to be it's original version), but nothing
Any ideas?
sounds like you are using teh wrong stock rom.
You cant just flash any stock rom, it must be the correct rom for your phone. So if your phone was originaly vodaphone germany, you must use a vodaphone germany rom, else it wont flash.
If you use hspl2, then you can flash anything you like.
Example
get the 1.66 wwe rom from official roms thread.
boot phone into bootloader.
connect usb.
when 'serial' changes to 'usb' right click hspl.exe and choose run as administrator
when it runs choose 1.66.hspl
when it completes, return to bootloader again
connect usb
when 'serial' changes to 'usb' run the 1.66 wwe.exe file.
I know what happened... I followed the MTTY thread and changed the default win7 active sync drivers with the ones from the thread. So that's why hspl would not connect...
Can I use 2.08.HSPL from HSPL3 to flash the latest 3.14.405.2 stock update from HTC?
And another thing... how can I find what's the original firmware for my phone? Because I know it was bought from the UK and the firmware on it was 1.48.405.2
i think the 1st port of call for you is to get the correct update updat for your phone , if there is one. o2 and other providers have not yet had updates (3.14) for their branded phones . go to htc uk , put your s/number in and see if they have an update for you , if you get the "this update is not suitable for your phone" or similar , message , this means that you have a branded phone that the generic update is not suitable for
Yes it does say that, but my problem is that I don't know from what provider it is, since I bought it second hand. Is there any way to find this out?

?? That should have been a pretty good indicator that it wasnt going to work.......
I think some reading is in order before you attempt this again.............
I did read, that's why I tried to use HARDSPL
I managed in the end to install 2.08.HSPL, but if I try to flash any stock ROM, it stops after (presumedly) it flashes the bootloader and displays "not allow" again
I am able though to flash custom roms.
Is there any way to find what was the original (branded?) firmware, so I can track it down? Or maybe to strip the bootloader off a stock ROM, so I can use it with HSPL?
only "method" i know is to take your s/n and try to download offical roms on htc's site.
if you can download a vodafone one, its vdf branded, if you can download a o2 one, its o2 branded and so on..

Call HTC support and tell them you want to upgrade your phone, but bought it unbranded and don't know which country it belongs to. That's what I did and they told me without any issues.
Once you have it, download and run.
Also, try some of the more esoteric regions. My phone was from Czech and although the website is not in English, the ROM upgrades were, so I was able to flash stock w/o issues
my phone is vodafone (i removed the simlock) and the HTC website told me no update for you.
so i used a custom rom.

are you sure you got it unlocked? Did you see the "we unlocked it" screen? Also, flashing a stock ROM from the sd card locks the hspl again so that may be your problem. Don't flash a stock ROM from your sd card unless you want it locked.
Indeed, I tried to flash it from the SD card, because I had no OS to boot to. So I flashed a custom ROM from th SD, then flashed a stock ROM via active sync and now the stock ROM runs happily on HSPL
Big thanks to all who answered my post and helped me to revive my phone!

you cant relock an unlocked phone anyway, no matter what you flash.
Dont confuse sim lock and rom lock, Totally unconnected.
a sim unlocked phone will still need hspl to flash, and a flashed phone isn't sim unlocked.

oh crap.
i just flashed straight back to stock without doing any of this... have i screwed up?
Also i did it because it keeps crashing and overheating so i was going to try it on stock and if it kept doing it i was going to send it back to htc - will they be able to tell i tried a custom rom?
(seems to be working fine though)
EDIT:
another question - will this have changed my radio back to stock too - or do I have to do this manually?
where can i download the new stock rom as the HTC site says its now for my phone....(probably because it was an O2 branded rom before)
theres an O2 update as well on the HTC website?
Otherwise the latest ones are on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
I managed to sort mine - turns out you have to do it via SD and it does everything bootloader, ROM and radio. (although it failed the first time and i almost made a mess in my trousers)
If anyones interested the instructions are (taken from HSPL4 app):
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
I also formatted the SD before copying it over.
No there was only one for t mobile !
cheers for the link matey
yea its odd that, the o2 3.14 rom is there via direct link, has been since saturday, but still doesn't show if you navigate to the rom updates page on htc.uk
ok updated the hspl fine...but when i try to flash the new WWE rom i get an "invalid vendor id" at 1% and the flash fails
righty all sorted ! the O2 rom was on the UK site i was being dumb and look on htc Europe site !
all flashed and working fine now
