I ran androbench and this tablets i/o benchmarks are terrible!
How is there such a huge gap between the tf300 and the other devices used as references in this benchmark.
I am oc'd to 1.5 and have the sio scheduler enabled using atp tools.
Is this a hardware or software issue? Or am i misunderstanding these benchmarks and making something out of nothing?
Is there any thing that can be done to improve this?
Just figured id post my screenshots and hear some other opinions
can confirm this. Stock I/O is bad. In Quadrant about 300points behind custom Roms.
Well, are you guys happy with the performance of the TF300?

This is exactly what I was suspected, really hope its not caused by cheaper/slower integrated SD storage chip :-/
There is a real impact on performance when accessing internal storage, my TF300 goes to a complete halt if I download using Torrent to internal storage. However when I direct downloads to my external class 10 32gb SD-card I can still somewhat use my pad for surfing.

Its a nice tablet, and for the most part yes but, a new $400 device should not be dead last in preformance on any test. And its not just a little behind, its so far behind on some of the tests it almost dosent show up on the bar chart. I would just like to know why this one aspect of the tablet is so much worse than other devices when all the others are on par or better then the competition.
This thread is asking the same question about the TF700: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766836
So far, signs are pointing to slow flash storage chips, which can't be fixed. Hopefully, someone can provide a good answer.
This is expected.

I am very happy with it. As I said its a Stock rom issue. I don't use Stock, so I have better I/O
I don't trust benchmarks so much. It. has to feel good, that's what counts.
Even with the lag of. I/O its a very fast tablet. I Am about 5200 in Quadrand and about 13000 in Antutu
Well im stock rom but using sio not noop. It did help a little. How much of a difference does using cm9 or aokp make? i dont really want to void my warranty untill i use it for a while to make sure its not going to crap out on me.
if you use rom toolbox you can actually boost the I/O i believe up to 4096 kb which should improve it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app
Rom toolbox shows it at 4096 i set it anyway and the benchmarks are worse
This is interesting.. I've noticed accessing the internal laggy at tines too. Like whenever I'm installing apps from Google play it is horribly laggy yet I can go on my galaxy s2 update 10 apps at once and not even notice it in the background
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Would running a custom ROM either help or fix this issue?
Well its either hardware or software. If its a hardware limitation then no, there is nothing that will drastically improve it. If its. Software then drivers or a kernel update could. At least thats how im seeing it.
AFAIK the Prime also suffers from the same crappy I/O performance. Also, I have read that the performance can be boosted up with custom kernels, so far there aren't any kernel devs working on the TF300T.
Using ATP_Tweaks changing the scheduler from noop to SIO has almost doubled my results in Reading and Writing Speeds, still the numbers suck (it went from 300-400 to 500-600).
always run a bench 5 times and get the average.. there is too much that interferes with these benchmarks especially the IO onces ... 1 background write and youll see a big drop in the score of the running bench...
Just ran antutu on stock...
Running in balanced mode.
8177
Data IO= 390
SD write= 7.1
SD read=18.2
Then installed atp_tweaks and changed to sio...
8065
Data IO=405
SD write=7.5
SD read=48.4
Only did a single run for each though.
Just run a quick test with the latest Skank. Just run it one time.
But as I told before Bench is not so useful. For me it all comes to the way the Rom feels. Never felt any lag in one of the Custom Roms. Can't tell anything about Stock, because I only had it on for about 10 minutes

Ok so ive rooted this toy, flashed the 1.2ghz kernal and ran quadrant on it. I hit anywhere from 1080 to 1180. Have setcpu on demand at 800 min and 1200 max so why on earth is my rooted nook color running android 2.1 and a flashed 1100mhz kernal hitting wayyyy higher scores? (Around 1280) doesnt seem logical at all. Specially cause this is an actual tablet and thats just a rooted e reader. Did I do something wrong?

Quadrant is a bad benchmark. It weights i/o far too heavily.
The Tabs RFS filesystems bring its Quadrant score way below where it should be, though in actual use it's very fast.
If you move to EXT4, your Quadrant scores will shoot up by around 80%.
Regards,
Dave
O sweet love of mary. 80% you say. Ok ive seen some posts redarding this ext4 thingymabob. Ill check it out. So if im understanding you correctly by changing to this my tab will perform even better than it does now? Or ill just see a genaric increase on this quadrant test that really means nothing? Sorry im noobish lol
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
Well, my tab is currently on ext4 and my quadrant scores completely destroys my rfs score taken earlier.
However, that said, i don't really feel any performance improvements except the satisfaction knowing that my toy is now on an open and faster file system as opposed to a propriatory and slower one ;-)

Quadrant scores aren't as accurate as people think you know...
Sent from zombie infested Gingerbread.
There's an app called OCLF that will transparently add an EXT4 area on the RFS filesystem without needing to convert the whole thing to EXT4, giving you EXT4 IO performance in an easily installable and reversible way. Probably your best choice for trying it out. Otherwise, for the complete conversion, you could try this Modaco ROM/Kernel, which includes a complete conversion to EXT4.
As far as performance differences go, it makes a huge (10x) difference to the Quadrant IO score (measured before and after figures), but no measurable difference to actual performance (measured real-world usage figures). Some people claim to notice a subjective difference, but I never did.
Im using the modaco rom and kernel with ext4.
And it does make a huge difference. I get around 1800 in quadrant now.

hi,
please be aware that the modaco kernel (rfs/ext4) will not work on CDMA Tabs.
from modaco kernel thread
This kernel is ONLY tested on a UK Galaxy Tab. It MAY work on other GSM Tabs, it almost certainly WON'T work on a CDMA Tab. If you have a non UK Tab and want to test (and know how to flash back to a regular version), then go ahead and report your results. At your own risk.

That's the point!
It makes a huge difference in Quadrant, which is a synthetic benchmark, but far, far less difference in real world usage - hence it is a crap benchmark!
Pre-EXT4 my Tab would pull around 1000 in Quadrant, whereas my Desire HD would pull around 1800. However in real usage, they seem to perform pretty much the same which is not too surprising as they are similarly specified. On EXT4, my Tab pulls around 1800 now, but still performs much like my DHD.
I so wish people would stop bandying about Quadrant scores because they are meaningless.
Regards,
Dave
If you look at the scores in quadrant , they are split by colour so you can see how good the graphics capabilities are for example and compare to other phones. The colour codes are at the bottom of quadrant by the way
Linpack is a better benchmark. Not perfect, but better
Not really - Linpack only tests floating point performance.

Dave
Wow, I started a heated discussion lol. Well ive downloaded the one click lag fix but have not applied the ext2 tools as yet. Want to do more reading about it first. Obviously I want my yab to be the best it can be but I surely dont want to make it genericly better at the expence of my video grafix as one user said he suffered in that thread.

Taking Quadrant scores aside, when I made the switch from CF-Root to the Ext4 MCK, I really did notice a huge improvement in real world usage. I'm not sure if it is really because of the change in file system, but nevertheless thats the only big thing present in that kernel aside from CWM.
Everything said make sense and seems to be valid but let me share my experience.
I have Samsung Galaxy Vibrant and T-mobile Tab. Now both are using EXT4 file system and have fully functional recovery allowing for flashing straight from the phone.
Both now have Quanrant score around 1700-1800 and run very smothly.
Is I/O speed important? I think it is very important because task switching requires reading of huge chuncks of memory. Until read operation completed the user is essencially suspended. Multitasking is the major distinction of Android and lags associated with the tasks switching might be the most noticeable issue since its used so much. Converting of the RFS file system to EXT4 practically reduced lags to unnoticeable level. I don't need any better.
Another critical area for I/O is playing video and especially capturing HD video. The latter works only if I set internal storage and shut down all tasks.
This is work in progress but it seems it reached level of usability when most critical bugs eliminated.
It should be noted that the Tab is flashed with Rotohammer KM2 v1 ROM and Paul Obrien's kernel on a top. The kernel contains scripts converting the file system and flashing recovery. This combination works well, no issues so far.
Well I decided to give it a try and after install my quadrant is 2556 and linpack is 16.865 mflops at 1200mhz. Good scores but just numbers. I do however believe im seeing a bit of snap that I didnt have before when accessing my library. Still really unsure if this is a good thing as im not sure if I can use apps to sd anymore so I may uninstall at some point in the future but thanks to all you who helped the old man out. Overclocking will raise processor/RAM heat dissipation and thus might lead to a catastrophic failure. It would be great to have temperature sensor on the board or at least measure current consumption from the battery but it is not easy.
Of course im a pushin lol. Only way to achieve is to try. Course ive read about the tab proccessor being able to handle 1.4 stable and can handle 1.6... Not that id know about these things first hand. Just taking the words of better men.

There is a "Boost.sh" script included with Neutrino (I believe in /system/etc) that Notorious recommends be run when you get that "not so fresh" feeling. It is a defrag tool that can be assigned to a widget and should be run every so often.
Also, you will want to see if "Nitrocharger.sh" in the same directory is running as Root at Boot. I have seen big improvements by implementing this.
Both of these scripts came with the ROM, so hopefully you have fast access to them. Good luck to you!
thanks for the info fellow xdaers,,,,,

As tob said, those "so verry little script" can makes big differences sometimes
I would like to add my personal toughts, for me, the ROM actually scoring higher and higher and feel a litle bit more freshier each week past within the ROM... so my thoughts would be, the cache partition, the more longer the rom is implemented, the more score you'll get cause the cache slowly become bigger and bigger giving you full power to open something tough!
As for the battery, from my experiences, you can't really judge a battery life while you just flashed a rom, you got to wait until the first week to see if there a big changes between the other ROM you came from ... so my guess would be, those scripts and the longer the ROM is implemented on your phone, the more fast and stable it will get, and you will feel the power slowly coming out again!
My bad if I'm completely wrong, but it is my guess!
Hood luck with your "new" phone
i brought up some old Antutu scores and notice that my ram. cpu integar and floating point scores are extremely low. i have tried multiple kernels but still no change. now i am even more confused......doesn't take much. could it be that my cpu is locked so i can not overclock. it kinda feels like its only utilizing one core.

I'm getting pretty frustrated with my nexus 7 because I'm getting horribly low Quadrant scores. I tried messing around and putting custom kernels on it but when I compared the scores to the thread I was reading, I couldn't even get the stock scores mentioned in the thread with a overclocked custom kernel.
I'm getting a total of 3412 on my Nexus 7 on my stock kernel on the stock rooted/unlocked bootloader 4.2.1. I wiped the device, reinstalled the 4.2.1 stock backup, and then installed quadrant and ran it so there shouldn't be background processes problems. This pisses me off because on the Jay's Buttery Tweaks, he got 4875 on his stock kernel/stock ROM. Somethings wrong there. What would cause such a horrible score?
The first thing you need to know about quadrant scores is................they are decieving, and usually bloated. If your N7 preforms well during use, then your good. Also, if they were that important, all rom and kernel developers would post them with their releases. They dont for a reason.

Honestly, who cares? Is your nexus laggy? Are you having trouble doing what you want to do? If not then screw it, you're fine. Why is everyone obsessed with idiotic scores and benchmarks? The girls won't sleep with you cuz your Quadrant was over 9000!
Quadrant has never given the Tegra3 Chip really good scores for some reason? Almost all other benchmarking apps like Antutu, CFBench, Vellemo, Smart-bench, and many others will give 3 phones that I have, that are very close in specs a much closer comparison. I don't know why it is but Quadrant has never benched any of my Tegra3 devices high.
And was stated above go by how it feels in real life usage, is it snappy and smooth don't go specifically by benchmarks all the time they can sometimes give you an idea, but they are not tell you real world usage. For example my moms Samsung Transform Ultra with Android 2.3 and a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon is still really snappy. Its hard to believe that it is almost as fast as some of my quad core newer devices.
I got 2883 on my bone stock while playing the walking dead...

Why do you care about benchmark scores? They really really don't matter. What matters is how it performs during usage. Nothing else. You can have awesome scores, yet have the device lag during normal use.
From a Nexus S bathing in Jelly Beans
Alright well that was with the motley kernel and I'm not sure what was up but it felt pretty smooth with the motley kernel but gave me those terrible scores. Performance in GTA3 was a decent amount better than stock.
Then I restored the stock rom and installed M kernel and trickster Mod and after that because the benchmarks were just pissing me off. Overclocked to 1.6Ghz and did some SD modifications and jesus christ everything is buttery smooth, fast loading, gta3 runs awesome, and I can get a like 6200 score in quadrant and 15397 on AnTuTu. Probably the fastest anrdoid device I've ever used.
I just confuses the crap out of me because I get pretty crappy graphics scores and changing the GPU clock and raising the GPU voltage doesn't change the GPU score on either benchmark.
Can someone tell me what the LP core is and why my GPU scores won't change?
I disagree, respectfully of course. Benchmarks like the Quadrant are useful standard tools to measure the performance of these devices. While they are not perfect, they point out potential weaknesses in our phones and tablets and whatnot.
Compared to stock Nexus 7, the iPad mini runs much more smoothly and yet is underpowered spec-wise. Still the mini puts up a better benchmark score than the superior N7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
quadrant doesn't matter, but it can be useful for developers or just for the fun of it. first off, most people don't bench correctly. you want the CPU to be at the highest CPU speed at all times, quadrant doesn't put enough stress on the device to allow that, so the CPU will scale. if it scales, you don't know the actual CPU speed that its testing. you want to set the CPU speed at the highest speed, and you want to set the lowest CPU speed as the highest speed also. also, for higher scores, you'd need to disable fsync, and turn off tegra hot plug(and enable all four cores). sdcard tweaks wont help you, neither will jays buttery tweaks. also, overclocking the GPU wont help since we are limited in fps.

bench at 1700mhz high/1700mhz low. turn off tegra hotplug and enable all 4 cores(i dont know if trickster has that option, trinity kernel toolbox does), turn off fsync. trinity doent include zram, so you couldnt of used it. zram has nothing to do for performance anyways and doesnt help you with anything else. zram gives a little more ram for devices that are low ram to begin with. the n7 isnt low ram. plus, with zram, itll get slower after a few hours after bootup. i use ondemand/deadline btw. and, go into the devices main settings, developer options, and enable force gpu rendering. that raise your 2d score. i also bet that you are getting caught in the thermal throttle, which lowers your cpu speed when your device gets hot.
alright cool thanks for the info. I'll add in those settings minus the hotplug fix andsee what that does when I get.back. I know thermal throttling lowers scores. I've been doing tests recently on a bag of ice. the cpu stays plenty cool

I disagree with that. Just by clearing up RAM and turning off Processes that were not being used just sitting in RAM, maybe 30 or 40MB, waiting to be used my score went up over 200 points. If the benchmark was accurate then that would not have actually made any difference as it would have cleared out any unused processes itself before running.

Ok so I've been tweaking my phone, doing everything in my knowledge to make it faster. I am using the stock rom with faux123 mako jb enhanced stock 422-r2. So my first benchmark on Antutu i got 18003. re-ran the same benchmark again with the same tweaks and got 14206 and thought it was anomaly so i ran it one more time and got 16142. I went back and re tweaked everything and my scores were every were, even in quadrant. the ranges were between 14200-16800. I haven't been able to get it back to 18003, maybe because i did it on a cold boob. but, the scores shouldn't be all over the place compared to benchmarking I've done on other phones. Any ideas on this and or fix it?
Your phone is throttling. Your first benchmark will normally be your fastest. I that's how it was for me anyways.
I've also had the same experience. It is certainly due to throttling.

Welcome to thermal throttling. I recommend a ROM with the Bionic patches (there is an otherwise 'stock' AOSP ROM with these in the dev section, I'm not a stock ROM user so I haven't any experience with it) and you should notice AnTuTu scores going up to 20k+ and a noticeable boost to actual usage. If your device will under volt well (most will do at least -100mV AFAIK) you may mitigate the throttling to some extent without compromising stability however I don't recommend disabling the thermal protection as is possible in some kernels due to the red light death issue. Throttling is only really noticeable when you benchmark back-to-back. It's not a massive issue in most real-world use. I suspect it will become more and more noticeable on newer devices as device manufacturers and SoC designers are forever scrambling to provide the best performance within the thermal constraints of a smartphone. As idle and low load consumption goes down with new processes, full load GPU and CPU thermals are forever increasing!
PA tweak improves benchmarks
I have to agree with you on this. The stock gave me an score of 17K (antutu). stability curve was all over the place in stock. switching to PA did not help much either, the scored went down to around 14K. yesterday i got an update from PA and flashing that gave me a boost of 18991. some good tweaks from PA i guess.

You are making faster a device which already is one of the FASTEST devices on this planet?
maybe because i did it on a cold boob

See if it's a governor problem, set it to performance and see if it levels out. GPU scores on antutu vary by @ 1000 marks, so take that into account too.
AnTuTu Benchmark from cm-10.1-20130908-NIGHTLY
Antutu score on stock.
Ye I also don't understand how I got that.
My scores usually hover between 19500 and 20500 though.
I added stock scores so people could have a reference atleast.

Thats odd. Mine turned out much lower than usual:
I read the other day that Samsung use higher clock speeds with benchmark apps, higher than the phone runs normally, which in my eyes means benchmarks on these phones means jack squat! I was going to buy the S4 Mini but because of this I have lost faith in Samsung and have just ordered the HTC Mini. Will post the link when I get back home with what I read.

rofl. If you would read more about this topic, you would find out, that samsung isn't the only one doing this. But I don't see the problem, because first of all I don't really care about benchmarks and secondly I think the purpose of a benchmark is to test the phone on the highest settings.

Maybe others do, but its not right. I use benchmarks when purchasing a phone, so do some others and companies know this, why else would they ramp up scores? And fine if they want to show off their highest settings, but not if these high settings dont actually run for more than 10 minutes before frying your phone. These aren't real world stats which is what they should be showing. I mean who are these high settings benchmarks ment to be for if not everyday users? Personally I think its a scam and ANY company that goes by these rules is shameful...

I can't really understand this whine about specific settings on benchmarks?! People who want the highest score disable everything, use the highest settings, overclock, use fresh install, delete all useless apps etc. Clearly these newbie phone benchmarkers have never done pc benchmarks. And if someone buys a phone because of it's benchmark score then clearly those don't have any idea about real life usage vs benchmarking.

I myself have done many benchmarks both on PC and mobile phones and I myself use the scores I get and compare it against it's physical aspects. Everyone has their own way of buying a phone and you can't judge people for the way they do stuff.

A benchmark is not a good reason to buy a phone, I think you are a fanboy trolling
features man that's the real deal, battery life, network, camera, memory, screen, style construction, etc.
not only a benchmark if you want the best bench score buy the full one not the mini

Benchmarks mean something to me as well. They aren't guidelines to what phone I should choose, but the specifics can give me a good judgement for the aspect I'm intending to improve when upgrading my phone. I had an s3 mini before this and was disappointed by battery life versus performance. I could tell the difference by taking multiple benchmarks at different times during everyday use. I noticed when phones/ROMs have widely varying benchmarks then the battery life and performance would dwindle. The s3 mini on most ROMs would vary by approx 2000 points, and that's a lot.
It's worth noting that a custom ROM can affect the stability of a phones functioning a lot, but it is mostly due to the hardware used when a phone/computer has dwindling performance. The s4 mini for me, has had fairly stable performance and shows it with the battery life. My scores vary between approx 19800 and 20800 with moderate use.

Good!
Using Antutu for benchmarks on Samsung devices
You should not use Antutu to benchmark Samsung devices because they are unreliable as the stock ROM will score higher no matter what so if you want real benchmark results then use another program.
Using
