Heavy compared to what, your phone? It's the lightest tablet out there right now! Where does XDA find these people?

For one handed use. Weight of an object doesn't always determine if it's heavy, distribution and design. Take the Notion Ink Adam's design as an example.
Better question would be, why do these people find XDA?

Using mine right now... not heavy at all. Its light! . Even for one handed use xD

I spent an entire year reading quite a bit on a Xoom, not that's a HEFFER. To me at least, Nexus 7 feels like a piece of paper compared to the Xoom, really excited to put some books on it and give this screen a test drive.

Kindle Fire is Heavy. N7 feels MUCH lighter.

On it now and it is definitely not heavy
You must not have used a regular sized tablet before lol

if you think 340 grams is heavy... then i'd hate to see you at the gym...
"500g... GOING FOR TWO REPS!"
its light compared to most tablets out there. heck, the weight is going to be on par with my galaxy note with its trident ams kraken case. it shouldnt weigh enough to be problematic.

Coming from the Nook Color and Notion Ink Adam, both rather balanced devices.
But you're right, it's been a while since I had another really to compare with. So my Samsung Galaxy Note and S3 aren't good examples.
Didn't think I needed to get into life details, just to get opinions. I get arthritic pain (gout) in my hands occasionally and get tired quickly trying to hold anything for long during a spout.

Heavy tablet
My nexus 7 tablet is very heavy as well.
But knowing the below facts could contribute.
1 its in its box.
2 the box is in a ups truck
3 the ups truck is in a Plane.
4 the Plane loaders packed the truck in Lead filled bubble wrap..
Hurry up already google..
Sorry for the humor guys. I think a 7 inch tablet is going to perfect compared to my acer A500 That i love but nearly as big as my notebook

Sidenote; ever drop a tablet on your face while laying down? It hurts..

Questions go in the Q&A section

Well I watched two anime about 24mins long each, holding the tablet with my thumb and middle finger on it's edges and it was bearable..
I guess it was just a surprise after having Samsung Amoled devices that are practically weightless..
Please vote this thread up, so it can stop sinking so fast. I'd like to see other's opinions.

7 million sold and ticking

Samsung just announced that the galaxy note has now sold 7 million and counting.......
I think note 2 is destiny - the only question now is where.

Wow, with the note being such a success I wonder if in the further all phones will be 5.3 inches and future 'tablet/phone' hybrid devices will be 7 inches?
Even now some people say I'm ridiculous carrying such a big phone but I see this 'big' phone being looked at as 'too small' in a few years??? Though I don't think they will make phones with screens bigger than 7 inches considering 7 inches is already a 'mini' tablet's size.
Either ways I also hope they don't release a Note 2 so soon, just bought my note in February, would hate for it to be 'old' or 'outdated' in less than a year, I feel like past mid 2013 would be the perfect time or maybe end of 2013 in December.

That's actually very interesting because they pumped a lot od money to manufacture and promote Galaxy Note which was - let's be honest - an experimental device. With 7 millions sold - and people getting excited about it everyday and buying more and more - i guess Note 2 is a matter of time.
But i have to agree - not yet. It's still too early to release Note 2.
The note is an amazing device, everyone that sees mine loves it even if it is a bit big for some. I normally get itchy feet around the six month mark of having a phone, thinking I want a new one, but haven't thought about getting a new phone at all. Its amazing how badly the dell streak did compared to the note. Probably because of dells lack of advertising, but also I guess all the right things just came together with the note and has captured peoples imagination, the hd amoled screen, the s-pen the dual core great camera, great gps it just does everything well. Never had a phone I enjoy using so much!!

I'm sort of doubting that 7" will become a phone standard. The Note is already approaching the upper limit of what many people can reasonably hold and fit in normal pockets. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tablets come with a mic and speaker to be used as a phone though.

I tried to carry Galaxy Tab 7.7 (it support normal phone, I can call and sms), it was too big for me. Ideal is 5.0 - 6.3.
6 inches would be an ideal replacement for a tablet and phone to me. Galaxy Note 5.3 sometimes feels small for internet or drawing.
Yeah I hope note 2 has a bigger screen. 6 would be good

Yea now thinking about it again I doubt 7 inch phones but 6.5 inch is still possible. Only one thing that gets in the way, when we use the note to talk...... now with the note even though some people are like its so wired, I think its just fine as its just right from my ears down to my mouth, the length of the phone is exactly right and its not too wide that to covers the entire of my face on the side, so bigger screen mean its going to be longer/wider, I can't say it will look wierd until I see it being used but this is definetly a concern.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda priemium
No matter what, the Note 2 has to be pocketable.
That totally rules out 7".
I could maybe see 5.8, if they somehow find a way to make bezelless phones. Which completely hasn't happened yet. I already can't really tie my shoes when it's in the front pocket of a couple of my pants. It's pretty close to borderline for me.

I think we should be reasonable here.
I think if anyone who wants Note 2 to be bigger than 5.8" should really consider getting a tablet and phone separately.
I wouldnt mind a 5.8" personally but anything bigger will be really hard to use as a phone.
Also I really want a 16:10 ratio screen res like the current Note.
Perhaps 1920x1200
Im all about bigger screens but anything bigger than the Note would be simply too big for me. Still im pretty sure they could manage to give us 5,5" screen without increasing the device's dimensions. That would be nice.

5.3 isn't small, but when you use a tablet like the iPad to browse than switch to the Note it does seem small, same thing with browsing on a note than switching to other phones, it does seem small but over all 5.3 isn't small.

OK maybe if the cut off the buttons and just have one small (but big enough for the average thumb size) home button and removed the Samsung logo ontop of the phone and made the screen wider removing the little space on the sides, it could happen, also hope that in future Notes, speakers are on the bottom or sides of the phone and not the back rely dumb to have it there

Actually You don't really need a case. I brought mine an my wife her's around the globe without damage scratches or creaking.
If You need a really slim case get original Sammy case. Although with partly bad critics it's the most unobtrusive case and works perfect in the limits of it's slimness.
Or get a Scott eVest like me, it's got a pocket for tablets : like a magician You pull it out ready to Note ............

I don't miss my Asus dock much at all. The note is pretty incredible. Really HDMI there is an adapter for that. If you can afford about $80 for it on Amazon the AllShare Cast dongle is amazing and can make for some slick presentations.
Bestapp depends on what you wantto do. But unique to the note LectureNotes is perfect for handwritten notes. Lots of postings on the forum about notes and sketching apps.

Size matter?

Hi all, I'm considering buying a nexus 7. I have a thrive 10.1,but find it bulky to type in portrait mode. I use it to take a lot of notes on students, but also for the Web and reading on the weekend. Anyone give up a 10.1 for a 7 screen? Is it that big of a difference?

I own a Galaxy Tab 10.1.. I had the same issues with it as you did. Yes it's a big difference from the N7 but for me it made ALL the difference. Portrait mode is perfect to use and type on and landscape mode is perfect for web browsing.. 10.1 was just too bulky for me.. I always felt burdened by it like I was carrying around a computer monitor and not a convenient and productive piece of technology.
My Tab 10.1 now sits on the shelf as I wait for pershoot to pump out some new CM10 builds for it and I plan to just use it as a media center interface. Meanwhile me, my Nexus S and N7 are attached at the hip
I had a 10" HP Touchpad with CM9 that I really liked, but after using a friend's Nexus 7 for a little while, I decided to sell the Touchpad while they were still selling on eBay fora decent amount and buy a Nexus 7. I have had the Nexus for a couple weeks now and have found I use it a lot more than I did the Touchpad since it is a lot more convenient. Also, now when I pick up my wife's iPad, it feels HUGE and unwieldy!
I have not missed the larger screen at all.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I like the 7" size, as it seems to be a happy medium. It's easy to hold with one hand and read. Its comfortable in landscape mode and much more comfortable for playing games. It's easy to carry and to toss into my purse or a pack. I don't watch movies much but it's a nice personal size for viewing. My other device is a HP touchpad and it feels large and heavy in comparison.

Sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB WiFi for the money to buy an 8GB Nexus7, and didn't regret it for an instant. It's actually portable, it's ridiculously fast, and while it has a smaller screen than the GTab10.1, it's the same resolution, which results in a much more crisp picture.
We now have two Nexus7's in the house: an 8GB and a 16GB. We'll be adding a 32GB as soon as they start showing up for purchase.

Nevermind the GTAB 10.1 had a bug in portrait mode that caused it to lag like hell.. Even their ICS update had it. Samsung really screwed the pooch with the tab 10.1.. It seriously under performed considering it was a dual core tegra 2.

Sold mine as soon as the n7 came out. Hadn't made it to ICS yet. I hear they run VERY well on JellyBean though, especially with all that TouchWiz crap stripped away
I was a hardcore 10 clincher, had four tablets in the 10 inch variety and loved my prime and keyboard. But 7 inches is perfect for almost everything I use a tablet for. In fact since the nexus 7 launched, I got mine before preorders shipped but I dunno the date, I haven't used anything that would be better on a 10 inch screen.

I know alot of people that once they got a 7 ince tab, mainly the Nexus 7, they no longer used/wanted to use, their 10 inch, as it was uncomfortable, heavy and just too big to be portable.
7 inch is the way to go, I personally think 8 inch would be perfect, but 7 inch it is.
GET A N7! TRUST ME
Get a 16 for sure, or wait for the 32.. 8 is just too small
I personally enjoy the size, it works for me immensely. And is super portable.
It's not the size of the tab that's important, but the skill with which you wield it.
I like the 7" and find it very easy to transport. But it is important to give your eye's more "visual breaks" and look arround more. I seem to get more eye fatigue with the 7" if I'm not careful.
So to add another overused phrase to this thread.
Be careful how you handle that 7" tab, you could go blind.

Which Galaxy Tab 2 is better?

Between Galaxy tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy tab 2 10.1, which one do you think is better?
Comparing the specs, pros and cons and design, which one do you think its more worth it for me?
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
I recommend the 7 cause it is a lot more portable, cheaper, might not have some fancy things as the 10.1 but it has great ROMs and now I just found this script someone made that will increase my memory because it swaps internal SD with external SD now I'm running 32gb of memory this tab is well worth the money and I saw at Walmart they sell it for 200 dollars now so yeah
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
I personally think if you are buying tab 2 than choose 7 inch model.
10 inch model is highly over priced.it just have 3inch extra(higher resolution) and all other specs are same.
So go and get 7" tab 2.believe of you will never regret your purchase.
If you want 10" consider 10" note or upcoming galaxy nexus 10.
Thank you for all the replies. So, in terms of specs, there is no particular differences between 7.0 and 10.1?
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium
Yes no difference in two models except size and resolution.
And pressing thanx button is much better than just saying thanx.
But i heard that the tab 2 10.1 have 2 speakers at the front instead of 1 speaker at the side. I dunno if this helps but i regularly go to YouTube for entertainment.

Honestly with the sound quality this tablet has its still got a great speaker! Buy the 7. The 10 I think should have better specs than the 7 for the price but it doesn't. (Other than the resolution)

go for the 7 inch. if you want a 10 inch model, i recommend buying the new nexus, or even a kindle hd, which is not 10" but have better specs. the tab 2 with 10 inches really should have an upgraded cpu at least.

Which is better in the long run? I prefer a bigger screen as I have big hands and I can see easily compared to a smaller screen.

I don't know, man... you want the speakers, you want a bigger screen... seems clear to me you want a 10 inch. I really don't get why're you asking, if you read your posts, all of them aim at you wanting de 10". Maybe you just haven't realized it yet.
To me, there's no "better than". 10 inch and 7 inch can accomodate very different situations... someone said "it's only 3 inches", but that's A LOT. That's almost the difference between a regular smartphone and a tab. And 43% extra. But at the same time, it's less portable, and more difficult to handle.
You have to choose, depending on the use YOU will give to it, so that's where you start. Watching videos, or the kind of apps... even how are you planning to carry it.
I like my 7", because I can watch videos, read news and e-mails one handed. It's a very comfortable size for playing games, as well. And I can carry it on my bag without having to remove anything of what I used to carry before. Eventually, I'm planning to get a belt-holster kinda thing. Some other people might prefer to sacrifice some mobility, to get some more screen real estate, and get a richer multimedia experience, but in my case, for those situations I jump to my laptop. 10 inches would be too close to its screen... the same way, if I had a Galaxy Note, a 7 inch would have been too close to my phone's screen (this is why my "gnote-owning" wife isn't interested in a tab).

Why i prefer a bigger screen is because I can see better and it is more of a comfort to use. But if the 10" isnt going to have a better specs than the 7", then I wouldnt have any choice other than the 7" because wasting money on something with **** specs isnt what i intended to do. How I am planning to carry it is simply just put it in my bag.
Same goes for me. If i had the 7" tablet, it will be really close to my screen because of my note being 5.3".
Then again, screen size is an issue but not a must for me. If the google nexus 7 is better than tab 2 10" in terms of specs, I will take that. I heard that it is running Jelly Bean, sounds cool.

I prefer the 7.0 because of portability. There are several ROMs to choose for already and you can now swap ext sd with internal SD!

If you have a Gnote, a 7-inch tablet is a little redundant. Nexus 10 / Note 10 would be a good option.

I just put my galaxy note 2 down...

And went outside to smoke a cig and use my ATRIX to make this wonderful thread. Lol. <grabs cheek> you're so cute my little ATRIX, cuter than an iphone. Can't wait to finish this cig and go back to my manly phone.

I would expect someone with your statistics to be more responsible than starting such a useless thread as this one:what:
The Galaxy S Ill I had before the Note feels so fun-sized in comparison.

Agree ^__^ i love the note II after having the note I xd
Lol. Using the ATRIX is so funny. I am amazed I can type on thus thing. I do remember the ATRIX having a nice sensitive screen, a little bettrr than gnex and n4, but the note2 screen is so nice all across the board. Sensitivity, after putting in movie mode everything looks natural and I have hardly seen any black crush and watching videos does not put any hurt on the battery.

when i use my s2 i feel like what this small toy
Anybody else think youtube videos look better than your usual youtube videos, even high res videos, on note2 for some reason? Looks better than n4 and the gnex and n4 buffered all the time while the gnote2 rarely buffers a youtube video.

A friend just showed me a photo of a girl he is going after on his nokia 5800.. I found it rediculously small screen funny.
I used to use the 5800 in the past and u still remember thinking it had such a large screen.. I also used to complaint of its heavy weight.. Now holding it, it feels weightless in comparison to note 2

lol. i think we've all had a "i couldn't imagine using a phone that big" moment including non gnote2 users. iphone5 users are probably ****ting their pants with that extra row of icons. lol.
Would you imagine going back to a phone without multiwindow?? i just got used to be using 2 apps at once! Also the battery life is great! I can never go back! I just love my note 2! Every other phone looks boring for me. "Show me something i haven't seen...i got a note 2"
××**ches love note 2
my previous phone was an HTC Doubleshot (T-M MyTouch4GSlide), and having moved over to the Note2 for about a a week, I went back to the MT4GS so as to wipe it and install latest CyanogenMod 9. The MT4GS seems so small, almost like a toy, with its tiny display.
I ain't never gonna go back!
The "shock" is not the size of the Note but the cuteness of the phone you replace
That moment when I take my ex, SG1, in my hands again and think to my self "OMG, I used to tell people this thing has a huge screen??? I gotta find them all and tell them how wrong I was! :victory:"
Priceless!
you all think that the SGS2 or HD2 or anything else is small in comparison to Note 2? I have a Nokia XpressMusic 5800 at home! This is really small!
