From the Moderator... Going Forward.... - Vibrant General

To all in this Forum...... The Forum has been Running Smooth and the Members in this forum have been extremely civil and helpful to each other......
WE Moderators really do notice and thank you all for being such a great group.
Going forward........ FYI The Vibrant is one of the few older devices that gets to sport ICS on it... it still is a great device.
Jelly Bean is just popping out now and I have talked with some of the devs, and they think it can and will make it to the Vibrant.... Soooo . . . that Original Galaxy Phone is still got some GET-UP still in it......
But, , , Do not expect for at least a month ... and to that please do not post a bunch of ETA threads as I will have to delete them a spam... Just be patient and realize how many other phones who do not have ICS yet......
Thanks All, ~~ oka1

Do you know when JB is coming out?

To answer that question, The framework is very different and alot of things have changed. 1st they have to figure how to make the new framework fit older platform, then figure if memory size might be an issue.... and so on and so on...... Then when they got it right, then I would guess the Vibrant will be way down the priority list. That's the answer as good as it gets. :cyclops::cyclops:

I am out of thanks for the day on my tablet (I'll have to hop on my phone/tapatalk and hit you up) but thank you very much for posting this.
We are all excited for JB but I have to agree with Oka1, there are still very few devices running ICS let alone ports of Jelly Bean. In the RC forums, there are so many users who are still on Gingerbread and a few who are on Froyo with no hope at all from their hardware, manufactures or dev teams.
The Vibe is almost 2 years old and still blows the doors off many other devices. It is so easy to use, the bootloaders are unlocked and it has External_SD and removable battery (#noGNex or HTC ONE X/S) . It is because of these but also many other reasons that we are able to get working Gingerbread, ICS and now Jelly Bean ROMs for a device that was officially abandoned at Eclair and only got Froyo through a grassroots Twitter campaign.
Viva la Vibrant!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about JellyBean, since Cyanogen and AOKP supports the Vibrant.

The more expensive the devices, the more elitist the fanboys become. So maybe here, but less at SIII and Nexus section.

ICS on Galaxy S2

Please someone really start porting ICS on galaxy s2. Too many fake port and fake people that say "i am start porting ics..".. but nothing.
I would develop a real porting with expert people that know very well android and develop android rom for galaxy s2.
I also need someone that know assembler or low level code, for the galaxy s2 driver in ICS.
Useless thread.. Can someone close this?

please someone really start banning people for making yet more pointless bloody threads
you want ics on your phone? either be quiet and wait or port it yourself.
Take a wafer, put a dollop of ice cream on it then place phone onto the ice cream and finish off with another wafer, Voila!! ICS on your phone.
The reason there is no ICS threads is because its not ready yet, the time it took to write your thread a search just aslong would of given you the same result and you wouldn't have had sarcy comments like above
Ricey
Just to make sure you understand, Google haven't released source code for ICS and don't intend to until after devices running it are on sale. The SDK for creating apps for ICS is out, but that is little help for creating a fully functional ROM.
I think this is the closest port of ICS on Galaxy S II so far...

First of all this is a pointless thread, the best way to follow the progress of ICS for SGS2 is on http://codeworkx.de/wordpress/.
They are working on CyanogenMod 9 (ICS) and all that is left is to fix the mic during calls, expect it to be done during the next few weeks.

You are really are stupid excuse my language....Yes there is the wordpress site from codeworkx but there is already a thread up in general with all the info already from the site you have provided...if you actually took the time to read what you just linked here everything is on the sticky and more...so just wait for the bloody thing to be released and Stylez or Conan delete this pointless thread
Hmm what is this... ANY topics created about ICS gets closed because of Matriak...??
If anyone else wants to try and port ICS then let them try??
Since when where you the boss of SGS2 forums?
Yes i have followed the progress and yes i know your role in the porting project, but acting like you control everything about ICS and SGS2, then why do we have a community here?
The way i see it right now: There is 1 sticky topic regarding SOME developers progress, the rest of us are banned from trying to port it, or in this case, speaking of it, because these guys are doing A port too.
If we do make a topic, you demand it closed and refers to the sticky topic.
NOTE: I'm not talking about just this topic alone.
Just my thoughts.

Please go work for google, and bring us Android Jelly Bean!!
Stop making threads about Ice Cream Sandwich, Yes we are all desperately waiting for the port, but we must not , and i repeat MUST NOT be a pain in the ass to the developers actually doing the PORT!

[DISCUSSION] Android 4.0.3 AOSP ICS (ALPHA)Discussion Thread

Hey guys any questions and discussions you want to have keep them here.
Any questions you need to ask or any conversations that you want to have between each other leave it here and let Airbus360 do his work on his thread.
If mods feel this is a pointless thread by all means then go ahead and close it but rather than having hundred of posts and loads of pages of the same thing being asked over and over again in the Development section might as well keep it here where it is a General discussion thread and forum.
If anyone feels that there should be more info on this post feel free to let me know.
Thanks
The number of "I'll clean the forums by creating a grouping-thread and be a hero" is pretty high nowadays. I wonder what kind of threads should I start grouping .

Well all honesty i am kinda lost as well. Hence why i thought i make this one and try and keep up to date with everything that is going on..
What really surprises me is that people forget that all builds that are out are alpha builds and not stable...i am still on my Gingerbread rom and still loving it as it is solid and stable....Why people get so excited about an alpha is beyond me...
The real buzz will be when devs will have actual sources to be able to upgrade their roms to ICS level..That is when all the fun really should be starting not now
Hate
I wouldn't release anything if I was Airbus. After all the mud thrown on the other thread, sadly by other more "experienced" devs I wouldn't be surprised if he just cancelled the thread n disappeared.
I would.
To me it screams of jealousy on what Airbus has achieved the fact that people like Codeworkx and Paradoxxx are slamming him and all of a sudden made a complete u-turn on their earlier statement that they would release nothing until they had a stable build of CM9.
Airbus is trying to make a rom from scratch with inadequate tools, and he's not experienced. I think he's doing the best he can with the tools at his disposal.
I don't understand why so many people have their "panties in a wad" over Ice Cream Sandwich... I have been patiently trolling these forums and anxiously awaiting the day that a stable release is made. ANYthing made by a developer (that isn't garbage) I am thankful for, after all developers could say **** it and not give us anything. This rom was only released to help subdue those who are flaming over the release of CM9 anyhow...

good valid point...i am waiting for a stable version as well..and all honesty i might just wait for the stable official release itself from Samsung..As long as my phone works great as it is at the moment i am happy with that. If a stable leak comes first though and developers like Pulser, Checkrom team and Hyperdroid can get their hands on it then certainly that would be worth the jump. But at this moment of time when people are having a moan on someone who is trying to tweak a build that is already out and modify it to the way he wants that is disrespectful to him as he is not holding a gun to anyones head really and asking neither for help or money...
and last point people really need to chill out...more important stuff in life than a rom
I don't think that's a nice idea to put another thread on ICS.
Dev become more and more arrogant, people more and more stupid.
So why do you open this one? We already now the situation.
Forget about ICS, wait for a new firmware annoucement and then see if the new one is stable enought. If not, then forget again and repeat.
That thread is full of lulz, the dev should stop baiting users the way he's doing now.

The Galaxy S - ICS - Gratitude Thread

The Galaxy S ++R.I.P.++ ?

As you all know, Samsung has decided to abandon one of it's most popular childs by not delivering the sacred last Android version to this device.
But this is not the end of the story for this great phone, because the community lives.
There are many valiant people out there that are investing a lot of their free time to bring us the taste of fresh, homemade Ice Cream Sandwich.
Some of them are developers, some of them support development and deployment by providing the required infrastructure, others are committed to "real" testing and many people simple take their time to patiently answer questions, some of which have already been asked hundreds of times before.
And some people simply don't read what is written in the OP of ICS threads (or the previous post(s)). They complain, moan, request, demand, whine, ... to a point where even the most motivated people of the first category start asking themselves if their efforts are worth it.
And then there are thousands of people who can read, who try to find solutions, who know all the secrets of search engines and one never hears of them.
Why, because maybe they have not enough time to help or the questions they could reply to have already been answered hundred of times and certainly most of them do not post in the threads unless they have something useful to say.
This thread is for you guys and girls. If you have already hit the 'thanks' button and if you already donated what you can afford and you still feel like communicating your gratitude without spamming or flooding the development threads, then this is the place to do so.
Any moaning, flaming, blaming, whining and other stupid comments will be reported immediately.
Thanks a lot for your cooperation.
Edit: rephrased the passage above, because there were some misunderstandings...
So I would like to say thank you to all the people I mentioned above.
Even though I am using Onecosmics wonderful ICS RC1 release, I do not forget people from other teams that are investing their free time in the development of ICS on the Galaxy S and related devices.
There is a lot of "parallel evolution" or "cross-species evolution" as biologists say, this means that the teams or individuals are taking inspiration from the solutions found by other teams and integrete the results of it into their own work.
I also want to say thank you to all the people involved in supporting the projects. I am unable to name all of them so if you helped supporting and deploying the releases, this Thanks is for you.

This is 'old' news.
It seems that Samsung will bring some kind of 'value pack update'. Something like an ICS theme on GB
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_to_get_a_value_pack_update_instead_of_ics-news-3583.php
Some more recent news say that Samsung wont even grant us this.
http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2012/0...-deliver-value-pack-for-galaxy-s-smartphones/
Anyway, if one day Samsung will change its mind, then it will partially be due to the fluid ICS roms out there for SGS....

Agreed with donations and the thanks button.
Yet, some may feel that's insufficient and the need to just get a more personal thank you may come across. One specific thread helps with this and can't see harm in it.
I can see where this comes from so:
Thank you developers

I didn't say I didn't agree with the idea. My "no need for any spam or flood" was agreeing with the original post that you shouldn't spam the development threads with verbose thanks but instead just hit the thanks button and do a donation if you appreciate their work. Is my english that bad?

Of course it's not kind from Samsung not to release ICS für the Galaxy S. No problem - next time i'll buy a phone from another manufacturer. The are a lot of.
Many thanks to the community, which brought us great things like the Lagfix, the possibility NOT to install TouchWiz and many other things i just don't remember.
Thanks.
I love ICS, I'm currently using S.U.R.F.A.C.E's version. I would like to thank all developers - teamhacksung onecosmic and all the others. I miss the old camera app and radio but I hope the open source community comes up with a solution soon.
Galaxy S is capable for ICS
Guys and Girls,
The first Galaxy S is working great on ICS. My self using Teamhacksung Build 12 now, started with build 10 and have just a few minor problems, but these problems are caused by the installed apps that cannot work fully on ICS yet. Hope that they will be upgraded soon.
Samsung isn't even giving the value pack.

You should consider that Samsung updated the phone for a long time, and gave it two major updates. I don't think there are many other companies who update longer than that. In fact, the only android devices that get really all the updates until they can't handle it anymore are the Google phones. And then you should ask yourself: do you really care SO much about getting updates all the time? If that is so, you are forced to buy a Google nexus.
Yes, it's sad that Samsung are not the angels that we thought they were. But anyone ranting that they'll never buy a Samsung phone again should get real. Really no offense, but Samsung is a company. And a company lives not only from happy customers. It lives from happy customers that buy their new products, and so they have to add exclusive features. And 2 years of updating is fair enough for me.

Dear El Aidge,
I hope you felt better after writing the above post.
I must congratulate you on your realistic assessment of Samsung as a company. I do agree entirely with you.
But next time you post in this thread, may I kindly ask you to stay on topic? This tread is not about bashing nasty Samsung or whining.
My intention was to offer the Galaxy S ICS users a place where they can say thanks to the community without flooding dev threads and without being annoyed by people that feel the need to play teacher...
Have a nice day and enjoy your Galaxy on ICS.
I want to say thanks you at all the people who participe at the ics developpement , thanks you to do that, and thanks you to share with us.

A Review and Resolution for this Year

Let me start the thread by a warm greetings. Happy New Year Everyone.
Its been a very great year for X8 owners. Here are some review last 2011
WHAT WE HAD
Fully Working Froyo
Fully Working Gingerbread
Unlocked Bootloader
Real Dual Touch
Overclocked
Undervolt
Custom Kernels
etc..
Not to mention also there's a lot of new potential developers came and go.
WHAT WE LOST
Racth
TeamXperia
Doixanh
Indonesian Devs
etc..
WHAT IS LEFT
TROLLS
Some promising DEV's
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF X8
Maybe we can already foresee what will happened here if we dont start changing our bad attitude that discourages devs.
Its quite sad that we had a reverse progress rather than we go up and be stronger, we fall down because of our selfishness.
What will be your resolution for this year? Hope not to troll more.
Good luck and Have fun to those who are new and old in the Community.
I totally agree. This community became already a FLAMMING ZONE.
70% are just flamming post only 30% are just useful. At the end of the year people mess this community up.
What happened with dx? been a while since his last update on gdx, i kinda miss him
The best thing we can do is to report troll comments on the forums so that the mods and adms can delete the replys and make this place a more peaceful one, and with some luck, the devs will encourage to continue developing X8!
Goodbye
PD: Sorry for my bad english.

hope this year our comunnity will be better and better.
sorry for my poor english.
+1 deedii
I hope everybody is back n developing again specially CM9 for mdpi x8.
hoping in a week there's a good news about it.
but life goes on..maybe they don't have x8 anymore.. but I hope for the best.
goodluck for the new dev here.. user too.
I'm feeling so lucky being around here on early stage of development till last year.
now something weird is going on in dev sec..:? idk
and last, maybe its kinda too late..
happy new year to you all.
(sorry for my English)
Yes,
I love my X8, it is my best partner,
Even my gf envy's it,
Now when see what all is happening on the forum, really hurts,
Let encourage devs to do their best.
Forget to say ROMS threads whit no Links!
And for 2012 promisses list:
-ICS on X8!
-Trolls!
-New Devs shutting up the trolls!
-More Trolls!
-And unfortunatelly for me,a new Phone...I will miss X8 and this great comunity, although the Spammers, people here are incredible!
The X8 community isn't what it used to be anymore. Our forums are slowly decaying. At the time I signed up, there was a flame of so much interest and willingness to help others. Truthfully, I can't see that flame anymore. This place has been filled up with trolls and many useless post. I myself, was eager to learn and help others when I was able to but I'm not that active anymore. I have grown tired of this

[MINI NOTES] MiniCM10 for Xperia x8

I have created this thread so that I can offer my thoughts on the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8. Think of this as a pre-review. If you have ANY suggestions, please leave them as a post below.
This is a pre-review of the first version of Mini-CM10 on top of the first version of the jb kernel. Both pieces were created by nobodyAtall.
I would prefer for people to see this as a MICRO review. The ROM is in a beta like state so there will be very little for me to talk about.
If you have not read my review of the MiniCM9 ROM, see HERE

Yes in deedii
A full review will be typed up once MiniCM10 is finalized. Props again to nAa to another great release.
The latest and only version currently of the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8 16th of August 2012. After using the Mini CyanogenMOD ROM I can guarantee that this ROM has promises of greatness. Many ROM breaking issues however still exist: voice command, sign in issues and so on. I refuse to hammer on these because they will be ironed out later on. So without further or do I will review away on the three main areas.
Visuals
CyanogenMOD stays true to the original gangsta' version of Android. (The vanilla experience). Yet again the ROM continues to offer a beautifully tweaked to impress version of Jelly Bean. Unfortunately, as of now, new wallpapers are missing however I'm sure they will be added later.
Kernel/Performance
I have seen a great increase in overall performance from this ROM. I can safely say that you won't be stumped by 1-2 second delays like you were in CM9. The battery has also, from what I have seen so far, been moderately extended. Getting 4-5 days of moderate use.
Advanced Options & Apps
I have seen no big update in how many advance options are offered. Similarly no new apps have been added. Hopefully this will be changed in the final version. A suggestions would be to have two versions maybe, one with advanced options and one without. Maybe a port of these options from CM7 can be created.
Conclusion
MiniCyanogenMOD10 for the Xperia x8 shows definite signs of the ultimate ROM. I see no reason why the final verison should not be ROTY. (rom of the year). I have tried not to hammer on the bad because everything will be fixed as usual later on by the renowned developer nAa. Drop a thanks by his post if you have benefited from him.
RATING: I will not rate it in its current state. :fingers-crossed: This is out of pure respect for nAa
I have spent quite some time typing this review, please do not troll. All suggestions on the other hand are more than welcome. Please hit 'thanks' if you appreciate my massive effort. Sorry if this is not something you wanted. Even though the guide is long, I call it mini because it does not cover everything.
Check out the ROM

How far is this madness gonna go?!
I'd like to stress the fact that our X8 doesn't have what it takes to handle ICS/JB properly.
I appreciate your work, nAa, I tested MiniCM9 twice and I twice returned back to GB with the feeling of satisfaction.
These ROMs can serve as nice experiments, but are very unsuitable for daily use. You even had to expand the system storage at the expense of internal data, forcing others to use sd-ext, bringing potential new issues connected with that. It's obvious that you try to bring this to a usable state, but I doubt that's possible. Anyway, what's the point? GB can be modded to look like ICS and still work like a charm...

Sorry to disappoint you with a somewhat bad review I understand all that you mentioned fully. I too can see the x8 becoming a legacy device in months to come. I tested your MiniCM9 for about a week and I only confirmed what I thought it would be like. Beautiful and attractive, if there is a reason for having it, then it's the look.
However, even though I used swap and a2sd, I still experienced that drawback in responsiveness and RAM management from previous android versions. I admire your persistence and effort. It's interesting watching how much can our X8 take...maybe JB is the end, who knows?

Sorry, but I know how ICS works on X8. Try installing 60 apps and use them fully for a week... It really is great and stable, but not suitable for with many apps

Who uses 60 apps on ics. Your asking for ttrouble when you do that. Browser, whatsapp, xda, winamp and mail app is all I need

Yeah, I can't help myself. I have 5 dictionaries, 16 games, audio player, video player, browser, pocket, reference materials to school like periodic table, office, file explorer, xda,TB, reader, web storage apps,...
I always use my X8 like that. I restore it from TB
But with such a small amount as you use...I don't see a problem as using ICS as a daily ROM

Sorry to disappoint you with a somewhat bad review I understand all that you mentioned fully. I too can see the x8 becoming a legacy device in months to come. I myself think I should trade the Iphone 4s I got as a gift for an S3 because even though phones keep changing, I can see the s3 as a spectacular phone for years to come.
I will support the x8 community with reviews, tips and help until it dissapears. Thankyou for the comment.

That's for sure. There will always be the wonderful GB ROMs waiting there for any user, all thanks to the devs!

Really don't appreciate that.
You can live in your imaginary world where the x8 is supported forever but we all know it will be abandoned sooner or later.
Also, with no ROMs of your own, guides of your own or support for the x8 community, statements like that will plunge you in very deep.
It's clear you didn't read my post.
XDA is based purely upon reading. If you struggle with that I suggest leaving. I myself speak 3 languages so don't even get me started on the difficulties articulation.
Thanks
thanks also to CtrlAltDeleteIrl.
Hey everyone, nAa thanks for such a great rom, and kernel work and keeping our x8's top notch
I actually wanted to share something with you guys, i've been testing on mini cm10 and managed to upgrade it successfully without formating data partition, and things work excellent.
As new to the forum i can not post into development threads so, here we go
A major downside to this version of jelly bean i think is the a2sd script, which i think is fine, at some extent(data fills up rapidly).
I rely most of time on link2sd app on gingerbread, but its not working in mini cm 10 (works but its buggy)
So i had to make room for my apps somehow (about 120+?), so i wrote a little experimental script based on a2sd, im rusty as it come to scripting but still gets the job done, i wanna somehow forward it to nAa, as i think it works good for my purpose which is:
Move/make symbolic links of:
(link2sd already does this, on mini cm10 is buggy)
data/app/*.apk -> sd-ext
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
data/data/*/lib/*.so -> sd-ext
(this one free's up a lot of space on /data among with libs to sd-ext)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
(however if we mount bind with a2sd, whole /data/dalvik-cache, this is moved too and makes rom super slow)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> stays on internal
I ended up with almost a 50/50 ratio of free/used on /data (i just checked i have 153 apps on sd-ext and 3 on internal)
Also had to edit a2sd script so if flags are not set, it doesn't delete dalvik each time on boot, the only thing i don't seem to find how to do is, that this rom deletes the symbolink links of libs on each reboot(filling data partition again on start), maybe you can help out on this one, nAa if you are interesed i could send you the little script, I think you could arrange it to make mini cm 10 much better
keep the good work up!
cheers

I read your whole thread before posting, I always read threads here even if I don't log. I will post what I want to post, I have my own opinions you have yours, this is a forum isn't it?, but you don't have the right to belittle me if you don't like my post, oh i forgot! this is the internet, my bad, you have all the right to badmouth me, how convenient it is, wasn't it? BTW, What a helpful thread this is, indeed . Don't flatter yourself with the so called 3 languages that you speak of, who cares about that, not me at least, this is XDA. I will leave your thread, but I will not leave XDA as you suggested. I dont want to flame, but I have the right to defend myself, sorry for my sarcasms. I, myself want to support X8 community, sometimes I post here in the forum to help, but I dont have time to post guides, tips, ROMs, or threads which is......ugh.... massive in terms of effort, because I have a life outside of XDA. Enjoy your stay here Mr. Deftone. Thanks as always for your massive helpful threads. :good: I'm not trolling, am I? LOL.

I would say you are. If you want to defend yourself( I mostly agree with your opinion), send a PM to Deftone. This post isn't related to the thread topic in any aspect, so please use PMs to express yourself personally. That's what PMs are for. Have a nice day
