The Galaxy S - ICS - Gratitude Thread - Galaxy S I9000 General

The Galaxy S ++R.I.P.++ ?

As you all know, Samsung has decided to abandon one of it's most popular childs by not delivering the sacred last Android version to this device.
But this is not the end of the story for this great phone, because the community lives.
There are many valiant people out there that are investing a lot of their free time to bring us the taste of fresh, homemade Ice Cream Sandwich.
Some of them are developers, some of them support development and deployment by providing the required infrastructure, others are committed to "real" testing and many people simple take their time to patiently answer questions, some of which have already been asked hundreds of times before.
And some people simply don't read what is written in the OP of ICS threads (or the previous post(s)). They complain, moan, request, demand, whine, ... to a point where even the most motivated people of the first category start asking themselves if their efforts are worth it.
And then there are thousands of people who can read, who try to find solutions, who know all the secrets of search engines and one never hears of them.
Why, because maybe they have not enough time to help or the questions they could reply to have already been answered hundred of times and certainly most of them do not post in the threads unless they have something useful to say.
This thread is for you guys and girls. If you have already hit the 'thanks' button and if you already donated what you can afford and you still feel like communicating your gratitude without spamming or flooding the development threads, then this is the place to do so.
Any moaning, flaming, blaming, whining and other stupid comments will be reported immediately.
Thanks a lot for your cooperation.
Edit: rephrased the passage above, because there were some misunderstandings...

So I would like to say thank you to all the people I mentioned above.
Even though I am using Onecosmics wonderful ICS RC1 release, I do not forget people from other teams that are investing their free time in the development of ICS on the Galaxy S and related devices.
There is a lot of "parallel evolution" or "cross-species evolution" as biologists say, this means that the teams or individuals are taking inspiration from the solutions found by other teams and integrete the results of it into their own work.
I also want to say thank you to all the people involved in supporting the projects. I am unable to name all of them so if you helped supporting and deploying the releases, this Thanks is for you.

No need for any spam or flood, just go to the respective thread and hit the thanks button. More, do a donation to the developers. That's what I call a THANK YOU.

ics 4.0.3
onecosmic rom 4.0.3 rc2.1.1 is supercool
daily use rom

This is 'old' news.
It seems that Samsung will bring some kind of 'value pack update'. Something like an ICS theme on GB
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_to_get_a_value_pack_update_instead_of_ics-news-3583.php
Some more recent news say that Samsung wont even grant us this.
http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2012/0...-deliver-value-pack-for-galaxy-s-smartphones/
Anyway, if one day Samsung will change its mind, then it will partially be due to the fluid ICS roms out there for SGS....

Agreed with donations and the thanks button.
Yet, some may feel that's insufficient and the need to just get a more personal thank you may come across. One specific thread helps with this and can't see harm in it.
I can see where this comes from so:
Thank you developers

Well said !
This aint no substitute to 'Thanks button', buying a beer or donation, it is complementary.
If you dont't like this idea, then stay away.

I didn't say I didn't agree with the idea. My "no need for any spam or flood" was agreeing with the original post that you shouldn't spam the development threads with verbose thanks but instead just hit the thanks button and do a donation if you appreciate their work. Is my english that bad?

I love ics. Thanks to teamhacksung onecosmic and all the others. Before ics I was using customs samsung rooms and now I miss stock samsung camera. Hope Samsung will release one for aosp ics

+1 ICS is running very well now on beta12

Of course it's not kind from Samsung not to release ICS für the Galaxy S. No problem - next time i'll buy a phone from another manufacturer. The are a lot of.
Many thanks to the community, which brought us great things like the Lagfix, the possibility NOT to install TouchWiz and many other things i just don't remember.
Thanks.

I love ICS, I'm currently using S.U.R.F.A.C.E's version. I would like to thank all developers - teamhacksung onecosmic and all the others. I miss the old camera app and radio but I hope the open source community comes up with a solution soon.

Galaxy S is capable for ICS
Guys and Girls,
The first Galaxy S is working great on ICS. My self using Teamhacksung Build 12 now, started with build 10 and have just a few minor problems, but these problems are caused by the installed apps that cannot work fully on ICS yet. Hope that they will be upgraded soon.

Samsung isn't even giving the value pack.

You should consider that Samsung updated the phone for a long time, and gave it two major updates. I don't think there are many other companies who update longer than that. In fact, the only android devices that get really all the updates until they can't handle it anymore are the Google phones. And then you should ask yourself: do you really care SO much about getting updates all the time? If that is so, you are forced to buy a Google nexus.
Yes, it's sad that Samsung are not the angels that we thought they were. But anyone ranting that they'll never buy a Samsung phone again should get real. Really no offense, but Samsung is a company. And a company lives not only from happy customers. It lives from happy customers that buy their new products, and so they have to add exclusive features. And 2 years of updating is fair enough for me.

Dear El Aidge,
I hope you felt better after writing the above post.
I must congratulate you on your realistic assessment of Samsung as a company. I do agree entirely with you.
But next time you post in this thread, may I kindly ask you to stay on topic? This tread is not about bashing nasty Samsung or whining.
My intention was to offer the Galaxy S ICS users a place where they can say thanks to the community without flooding dev threads and without being annoyed by people that feel the need to play teacher...
Have a nice day and enjoy your Galaxy on ICS.

I want to say thanks you at all the people who participe at the ics developpement , thanks you to do that, and thanks you to share with us.

Looking for 1.2.0... I see activity in the thread at 2:40am but the sticky post goes to a shut down notice... anybody?
Mods locked it because he released 1.2.0 early to donators

Maybe I should have donated... are we all mad about this or is this something that will go away soon?
Mods got mad that he was releasing to donators and they think he was asking for money for the ROM.
Flipz/Fresh does this for the Hero and the Evo which makes no sense..

Well, this is sad for a couple reasons.
1) This is an established developer, who never required anything for use of his roms, and had over 10 revisions located here. He *rewarded* his donators for supporting him. This is not to be confused with a *few* other rom chefs with no proven track record, not released anything to the board and asking for money for a rom. This dev is in a diffrent league and should be treated diffrently IMO.
2) He had alot of users using his roms, he had alot of support and Q&A that is all gone now, the thread is gone but people still use his roms and may want support or something to continue. I dont think making the thread *dissapear* is the correct action. It also insinuates Guilty before proven innocent as the dev is punished before things are worked out.
My 2 cents
I think the mods should explain themselves and see if the community sees any problems with schiz... I for one do not begrudge the guy for early release to donators... fact is this is the american way which I am proud to be a part of.
This is especially lame, because now I have no idea where the hell to get the thing. What if I WANT to donate? He's not charging for the ROM. He's just releasing early to donations.

I agree. I have been using Schizo's rom (1.1.6 w/Mixup kernel) for a couple weeks now and was greatly looking forward to version 1.2. He has done the best on incorporating compatibility with different kernels as well as prompt support.
I think the community is owed an explanation and a way to contact Schizo to see his side of the story.
i agree... he has supported the rom, stayed up late to get out the newest version early and always said he was releasing it regually as well.....
His ROMs actually work and you all freaking delete his thread? What the heck is wrong with you all. Stomping on a DEV, this is like the crap Apple does. Totally Lame. You all need to to reinstate this guy. Folks in this community "donate" money to DEVs and to keeping this site up and running. If word gets out that MODs are deleting threads for pointless reasons then people are going to pull their money out of this site and will start to hurt then help XDA.
Put him back-online and get the MOD to explain his actions!
I agree.
The Epic needs Devs and he seemed like a good one.
I understand the mods hesitance for his methods, but they should lay down GROUND RULES if they think he did something wrong.
I'm fine with it being released early. Call it "beta testing" for those who donated. In fact, with many new ROMs I usually wait a few days in case there are bugs.
The mods should allow the donate early-beta test model, stating it must be released publicly within X days.
Those of us who had donated have received an email from schiz. He says hes trying to work it out with the mods. Hopefully theyll get it worked out, if not, he'll pop up on his own site.
I ran fresh for months on my hero, but i think his donators-get-it-first was based off his website, not xda. I guess because schiz stated that donators would get it early, he got in trouble. If the mods really want to stop this kind of thing, then ban any developer who links to a donation account. But they wont do that, and shouldnt, because devs do deserve donations. But i guess you better not point to the donate link, otherwised youre banned.

I have the latest update and am unsure on installing it. I don't want to install something that I won't have any support for, this is ridiculous. He puts his time, energy and money into making a rom and releases it to some people who have given him donations because they liked his rom so much, nothing wrong with it in my opinion.
Schizo and I are going to be working on a site tonight, since he has the domain and the web space now, we are going to work something up.
Stay tuned. Epic Experience will be right back .

Like I said, he should offer exclusive "beta test" to people via their paypal e-mail addresses.
Then he can keep it off the forums, but still give reason to donate.
I've been on all sides of the equation (developer, donator, and leecher). I think it's fair. Just as long as he releases it, in full, to the leechers within X time. He seems like a quality developer.
Wtf schizo was an awesome dev. He was really dedicated. So what if he released them early to donators. Like someone else saidd, that's the american way. I expect to wait a little longer for something that's free. I understand completely.
I don't get why he was given the banhammer. Unless he said "you can't get 1.2 unless you donate." Then I don't see how it violates tos

guess I don't like the phrase leecher... but I guess if I don't pay I get called names... while this thing is in hot dev I wait to find what I want to keep and what I will call quits on... when I find the "end" I donate... until then I would rather be called a tester... when things go wrong I explain what's going on that might be fixed... in that case I'm a tester... not a leecher... just sayin'

Who to donate to...

Over the past couple months their seems to be more quote on quote "developers" asking for donations for their work or at least their latest.
Something to keep in mind is these "developers" are merely piecing together other's work that can be found by searching through the android parts of this board. Now while I do appreciate the time they spent piecing parts together I feel someone more important is being over looked, the people that get us the firmware that makes it possible.
So the next time you think a certain developer is worth your donation, take the time to donate to the people that give these developers the base to work with, without these firmware leaks, the dev's would have nothing to build from.
thanks

Yeah, donations to Samfirmware seem to be in order. I'd give my money to them before the developers here.
While I do appreciate developers putting their time into these roms, until they start releasing roms that are all give and no take(ie a slight increase in response in exchange for a lot of battery life; losing functionality of certain apps or functions etc), I couldn't justify donating a dime. If the only bugs in your rom are the same as the phone comes with, but you've increased performance slightly or fixed a bug or two, then I'd donate a few bucks. I don't donate for the sake of donating just like my employer won't pay me for sitting around doing a half-assed job.
I'm on a stock froyo rom right now, no lagfix or overclock, and it's running as smooth as any team whiskey or axura rom i've used(which would be nearly every), minus the bugs. No offense to any developer here, but I need something worth my hard earned money. I was real close to donating for the 1.6ghz overclock kernel until it turned ugly. Stuff like that, and less buggy roms with more features are where I'll be putting my money.

Developers have never demanded that we donate. Last I knew WE have a choice in what WE want to do. I donated my kids clothes that no longer fit them to the salvation army. I stay at work longer than required, so in theory I donated my time. My friend was moving so I donated my truck to make it easier for him. I donated a pepsi to Master because he was thirsty. I have never asked for anything in return. I did it because I wanted to.
These were all MY decisions to make.
Master has not made anyone donate to get a ROM. All he does is pay it forward. You buy him a Pepsi...you get access to a donor forum and a thank you. Pretty nice guy I say!
And people wonder why developers leave XDA....
This is directed at allthrottle. To sit and say that a leaked stock 2. 2 is better than the modded roms here is just plain ridiculous. The nerve of some people who complain about free stuff..... as for the OP, you do seem jaded. Threads like these do no good. Find a Rom you like, and donate if you want. It's real simple.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No, it's been my experience so far that this leaked rom has been less buggy overall than every other 2.2 rom Ive tried yet. It may not be as responsive to begin with, but its been consistantly smooth, which I couldnt say about any dev rom Ive tried(again, my experience). Im excited to see the latest, less buggy leak though. I cant say its 100% stock, it does have launcher pro and bloatware removed along with a couple of apps frozen.
And again, this isnt to say the devs suck, because Im very grateful for their work so far. But nothing yet has done enough for me to merit a donation. Im looking forward to someone releasing something that does, though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't like custom roms for the same reason. They're either hideously themed and/or have more bugs than the rom it's based on, some of these bugs being crippling. It's just not the same.

BINGO, without these leaks, there would be no further rom development, yet the guys that risk their jobs to leak these firmwares never get donations.
and for what it's worth this thread has nothing to do with hate towards any one person but to help inform the members here that developers that release these "custom" roms are only part of the equation. The bigger picture is if there is no firmware there is no improved roms, just different colored roms with apps zipped into them.

So they look "leaky" haha, clear photos don't look underground enough. I think its hilarious how so many people complain about how crappy gingerbread is but then complain when they don't have it after 3 seconds of it being released!
I know this thread will get closed quickly, but I did just want to express my thanks to all the devs here for all the hard work and energy you put into our toys. You guys deserve honor for what you do because many of you have families, real jobs, and real lives and you do all this for free.
But time is money and it costs you many hours so that we can load ridiculously cool software and soup our phones up, again, for free!
Its time we started giving honor, respect, and donations where it belongs. I apologize for the way some people have treated yall here, its not okay. I also think though that those of us who are appreciative need not be silent anymore, as unexpressed gratitude comes across as ingratitude. I am on here a lot checking for updates and downloadin new roms and probably need to speak up more on the positives. I think people only post when something goes wrong: if everything's smooth we silently bask in the rom glory, but if one bug comes our way we blow up the threads.
I know I am generalizing and this doesn't apply to everyone, but this is just what I've observed. Once again I honor you guys for the the skill, talent, and generosity you have to do all these amazing roms and kernels and themes for us. I know you do it for fun but seriously thank you!
Sent from my Inc which would suck without xda devs
Thats right people, lets all just be thankful we have devs out there supporting our phone. Even if some are split between projects and can't devote full attention to the Dinc, at least its SOMEBODY. At the end of the day, the majority of us would take one look at some code and go "screw that". These people got some major skill, and I'm thankful for ALL the devs every time I see my Dinc with a CM6 bootscreen (And others can insert their own ROM touches, Myn, SR, etc..).
I've always been meaning to really thank the devs here but I never know who to really thank anymore I mean rmk thanks for virtuous ncx I'm sure that's wrong but thanks your your awesome clocks whoever made my iron man splash screen thanks thanks to everyone who has made the eighty million mods I frankenstine into my phone. Without you all my phone would be lame and with you I have something I show off everyday. Thanks a lot to everyone you guys put a lot into stuff that gives close to nothing back and that is just idk awesome lol. I'm done with this thanks rant now. Lol I think we created a thanks thread for now and not a gingerbread one.

I was going to start a new thread in general just for everyone to thank all the XDA devs working on the Incredible, but this one seems to have that vibe going. Who knows, maybe I still will make that thread. But anyways I just wanted to throw my thanks out there to the devs cause without you this whole forum wouldn't even be here. I know *some of you guys* got trashed earlier on other threads, and I'm sorry for that. I guess some people just got caught up in the smell of gingerbread fresh out of the oven. I hope you guys know that there are those of us who really do appreciate your work and although those like myself don't have the knowledge to write our own code, I personally am willing to help and contribute any way I can. Agree with everyone thanking the devs. You guys are awesome. Thanks for helping free us from the grasps of our carriers and use the full potential of our phones!!!!
I just want to post my thanks to all the developers. One of the reasons i purchased an android phone in the first place is the massive mod community that it had. My experience has been amazing and what some of you guys do is beyond what i can even imagine myself accomplishing with the same tools. The few asshats that get bent of shape every time something doesn't work exactly how they want are just that, the few and the loud. They do not speak for the majority and should be penalized for their disrespect.
As much as i could denounce ****ers like AndroidStu and papi, i understand where IncDoes is coming from. He, along with many other devs, give us all these things that they created in their free time completely free of charge. They owe us nothing and only share their creation with us. I am ashamed to be grouped with such ungrateful ****tards.
I'd also like to take some time to post a quick thanks to our dev community. You guys are superhuman.
If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
Yep it's easy to get in a rut and forget and/or take for granted what these guys do. I used to theme for Blackberry and especially when I had multiple themes going, it seemed to consume every ounce of my free time. And what I was doing is like tinkertoys compared to what these guys are doing...no comparison. Not even in the same universe.
There have been some unfortunate events that have occured in the last day or so but regardless of what and when 2.3 advancements hit...my sincere thanks to all who make this phone and community a better place.

+1000. i can wait for Gingerbread. between cyanogen's rom, seanzers' CM6 fixes, invisiblek's kernels and everything else available for the DInc I've got an awesome phone and I'm hella grateful. i would be remiss to not at least shout out all the rest of the devs out there who are doing their thing as well.
the only person I know who'd hate on Devs is my wife, who feels like she's lost me to ROM flashing, kernel swapping, radio upgrading and all the other shenanigans that go with have root, bloody root.
I must also say thanks to all the devs the DInc has
You guys do some amazing stuff that I could never do

From the Moderator to All In this Forum

As the Moderator of this Forum, I want to thank all of you for being such a great Group. I find this Group one of the best in XDA, helpful, considerate and dedicated to the "let's try to improve our experience" on the Vibrant.
Now the S3 is coming ..... we will see many leave and move on...... This is to be expected...... but I am always sorry to see the waning of a great group of people...... such as all of you.
You know, the Vibrant has had an amazing run of support, more so than almost any other device.... I still love my Vibrant......even though I have a G-Nex and a Note...... I learned most skills on the Vibe....... and still love using it.
Anyway, Here at XDA we appreciate all the developers, Modders, Themers, and all the other contributing members such as yourselves...... that make XDA.
Thanks for making my job easy.......... Oka1 (moderator)
Thank you for your kind words, at first glance I though you were saying your goodbyes, but not the case.
People will leave but people will join, those phones have to go somewhere don't you think? Your right on the support, who knew this phone could get froyo, gingerbread even ICS, thank you devs.
Thank you oka1 for making this forum a more enjoyable one. Cheers

Yes, thank you to all the helpful people in this forum. Also thank you oka1, for you're one of the good people, you know based on other good people's feedback. You have certainly helped calm this forum from what it was a while back.
So, here's to all the helpful people..., to you oka1, one of the good people, to people who have moved on and people who are still here. Here's to all the countless evenings and mornings spent on this forum. Here's to tomorrow. Thank you.

I had a choice of getting a Nexus S or a Vibrant and had a few days to decide. I used those days to browse both fora. I am glad to say that I picked the right one. I have met many good people here and hope that the crop of newer users will be as cordial, intelligent and helpful.
This is way more useful than my tablet forum (oka1 is the mod there too). Over there it is hard to post anything without 15 responses about how you are wrong or that doesn't work for me. It makes it real frustrating. But it also makes me appreciate the Vibrant threads much, much more.
I think partly it is due to the fact that we didn't really get any official updates.
Yeah we got Froyo after much gnashing of teeth, but it wasn't OTA.
It was more of an afterthought especially since you needed to use Kies to install it. But even without Samsung/T-Mobile support, we were among the first phones running ICS. How does that even happen?
It is because we are all hungry for all the improvements that have come available for our phones, and we are extremely thankful and grateful to those that provide them to us. We were all in the same boat, and that led to an appreciation that some of the other forums do not have (or even understand).
The nature of the internet is inherently selfish, as most people demonstrate when they feel relatively anonymous, but we really do have a good community here.
I have asked a lot of questions along the way since I joined. Some were noobish, some were dumb, but no one mocked me for asking. Other people just helped get me on the right track. You can't ask for more than that, and to have those kinds of interactions in an online forum is remarkable. That spirit has led to many users becoming developers and creating new kernels and ROMs for this phone, and giving back to the community.
Also, it helps that the hardware in our phones is still relevent after 2 years...high end specs help a lot. People just seem to want to dev for this phone. As much as I would love to get a new phone such as the One S or the GS3, it is hard to justify when this phone is still chugging along just fine.
Thank you Oka1. If this is one of the best groups on XDA, then you've got to be one of the best moderators on XDA. It's been a good run, two years, and it's been an inspiring two years at that. I've learned things I never knew before, been helped when stuck or inquisitive, and in turn I've done my best to help the community in return. You guys are great, all of you here on the Vibrant forum (except the guy who ranted at mr_psycho). Woodrube, xriderx66, dougfresh, Oka1, and s15274n are just a few of the people I've been given the privilege to converse with here. Of course there are others, but then I'd practically be naming everyone in the Vibrant community!
It's funny, one day I was asking how to remove CWR because I thought it was bad for my phone and then the next I was flashing custom roms... One day I was asking people how to install Miui on my phone and then the next I was making a guide about it. I've leaned a lot here and thus I thank all of you guys.
Since I'm not good with speeches and what not. I love you all! Seriously. This was my second smartphone, I had a meh experience with the G1 and this has been the best, and I KNOW that nothing can be better than this.
Even if you are leaving, be sure to come back once in a while and say hello
I was such a noob entering into the flashing world had the g1 and hd2. Wasn't impressed with either (didn't know about any of this stuff) when I got my vibrant and was curious I stumbled into xda,edt and the axura forums. Wow was I clueless on the capabilities of these phones. As the 21st nears and I know the gs3 will soon be in my hot little hands I wish to thank oka for everything he's done for this forum. I will not yet bid farewell however.

No Oka, thank YOU man! I know I don't host over here anymore, and don't respond to much either, but this post deserves it.
We all owe it to you for cleaning up this forum and putting those habitual line steppers in check, before you came around here, man, this place was a disaster in many threads.
I too love my Vibrant, it birthed my dev "career", when the day comes that I do upgrade, its going to be a sad one indeed, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of Betsy. More like enshrine her in a glass case on the mantle, and tell my grandkids stories of how Oka1 came riding over the hills and cleaned up this one horse town, making it a pleasing experience for all the devs, themers, and users alike.

Just playing; im very happy with this community as well.. it has really made my xda experience a very enjoyable one.
The vibrant is quite a legend and even though sometimes the flagships can tempt me, i know that this is all ill need for a couple more years.
Tbh though, once my contract runs out, this will become my backup or go to my family members (my mother still uses a moto SLVR from like 2004 lol)

im from malaysia, we didnt have samsung vibrant here, but i happened to get myself 1. i just want to say that i still like this phone very much even though i have a note. yea, we lack of updates, but thanks to all developers here, my vibrant gets a new life. they've done so much for us (needless to say what). would like to say thanks a million to all developers for your hard works. btw, im not going to leave this forum, i still love my vibrant...peace
Got my Vibe on release day 2010. I have many friends with many diff android devices and have never seen the collective collaboration like I have seen here. The amount of support this device has received is incredible to say the least. Thank you Oka1, devs and supporting members that turned me from flash noob, to flash intermediate. I have acquired many useful rooting skills and it all started here!
Hey guys,
Been on these forums for two years. Outstanding community and I've had SO MUCH fun. Upgrading the the Galaxy 3 in a few weeks and I will see you all over there!

What gives with this place??

Why are we losing developer's. .is it xda policy, or are they just sick of to many questions of why dont it work? ?
Easily can be summed up in one word , entitlement! Saw this on the lg g3 forum, people think they are entitled to roms and the Dev are there to serve. Forget the fact these guys do it for free and share their work with and take the time write directions in there op .. That people don't bother to read! Start being respectful and grateful or learn to do the work yourself. I am not a Dev but I can def see their site of it.
I was questioned about his earlier.. So here is my opinion on it. A few pm's I have sent out confirmed a few things and even brought some other things to light I didn't even notice. Could additionally be some xda policy.
here
I hate people, this is why we cant have nice things.
What gives with this place. This place is amazing you can learn how to root android phones. Install custom recoveries. You can learn alot of stuff which can help you. You can ask seniors or others for help and they might cooperate. I am happy this site exists.

I can tell you it is not XDA policy.
What it most likely is from what I have read is the influx of the entitled members. Moderators are reactive. We need to see reports on posts, then we can see what is going on. The problem with that is sometimes no one reports a post or issue, and the flaming goes on for days before someone reports it. This is a site of over 6 million users...thousands joining each week. So many posts of "Give me root NAO!" "Can we haz update Nao" Or the ever popular "Your ROM looks like a child made it" It would be a great help if no one responded and someone reported it...eazy peezy clean up and PM sent to that member. Instead the developer stressed from all the constant updates and support, blows up at the member...he gets a PM saying please report and try not to respond...he feels moderators are not quick enough...they go to G+...then guess what...within a few weeks they are yelling at users on G+...telling them to be nice, patient...blah blah blah. So you have developers upset because they cannot curse out these entitled members and/or the entitled members drive them crazy. They would rather work with 150 users on G+ than thousands of users here.
We do what we can but cannot stop a post before it happens..and then the damage is done...no matter what the moderator does. How do you become a welcome site for new members if you ban them on the first mistake? We try to explain what they are doing wrong. You have no idea how much time the volunteer moderators here spend in PMs with members...and how often it ends up with the moderators being cursed out. We also spend a lot of time talking to these teams..doing what we can to convince them to stay....there is a lot the average user does not see. It is not simply a developer taking his ball and going home. Many plan this for months..building their own sites. So help us help you. Report, don't add to the drama and cleanup...Thanks!

Right. I miss being able to sit back and wait for cool roms & updates. But here in the Sprint Note 4 forums there's not much as far as developers goes. So what do you do? Either sit and cry or step up and do something yourself. I chose the latter. i'm a "take action" kind of person.

I agree . But you can't control the thoughts and opinons of others and people shouldn't be followers but responsible and respectful leaders instead. If somebody has a problem with XDA and/or members they want to pout, cry and throw fits. Then all of a sudden they want to take there "buddies" to their dream world "safe haven" where the grass is greener and things are so perfect and business is booming... uum ok, whatever. I refuse to play into that game. I'm a grown man and I accept and take responsibility for my actions and don't need to lay blame on XDA and/or it's not-so perfect members for my childish actions.

I agree with you but I also see a lot of immaturity on behalf of these disgruntled individuals. They can't handle a few whiney disrespectful members and think thinks should be perfect and handled immediately by the mod team. Yea, ok. They can go elsewhere and see how grenn that grass really is. I won't miss a thing because without XDA these brats wouldn't have a clue or the slightest inspiration to do what they do to begin with. Bite the hand that feeds you? That's never worked out well for anyone. This isn't a business it's a hobby for developers. I don't think the majority of these private dev "teams" are raking in enough cash to pay one months mortgage. I point and laugh every time i read those hate comments by the you know who's.

I will tell you why I am stopping for awhile, no one appreciates anything, no dev respect what so ever, so why do people continuously stay on the devs a$$ about a time a rom is going to be updated, and much much more. It gets old, serious.
I can see if the OP does not clarify what the rom is about or when it is updated, THEY DON'T READ! I had one guy call me every name in the book because he didn't do a backup and flashed my rom and it continuously bootlooped, he proceed to tell me if I was around him, he would kick my........you get the picture, I told him simply, build your rom. problem solved...I suppose.

I can honestly say that I have not seen it this bad since I joined back in 2007 - A lot of unappreciative people - Everything I know how to do on an android phone, I learned from this site - I'm guilty of not reading through a thread all the way before asking a question but I also understand what this is all about - I enjoy coming here and catching up on the latest - I've had many different android phones and this is where I always come to learn - All I can say is, Thank You to ALL of the people here - I really don't understand why some people are so ungrateful for something that is given to them for FREE. Sorry for the rant, just my thought on the matter...
Im a developer, not an android developer, but a developer. Ive used xda for years, I answer questions when I can here. I hope the developers dont bail I love to see their input on things. Their personal insight has always been invaluable. I thank all of you guys I hope you stay.

I don't understand some of these complaints we have nearly every custom ROM available..... When I first got here we had 1-2 stock/stockish roms now we have damn near every one that's out there.... I don't get it.... And as tat said I've learned everything I know from xda and some good friends from xda....no school, no classes, just searching, reading, and a few good friends..... Makes no sense to see these statements saying we have no roms, we have no devs, where are all the roms, where are all the devs....... If we are really so lacking in development why do we have so much available to us.... I can really only think of maybe 3/4 roms we don't have ....IMO only thing we are lacking in is custom kernels and we even have a couple of those..... Really makes no sense to me

It seems like people whining about the "lack" of ROMs and developers think its still 2010-2011. Back when I had my og evo 4g, there were so many ROMs it blew my mind. I don't think these people realize there are a LOT of premium android devices, and no one can expect these devs to buy every device and build a ROM for all of them.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
And more....Xposed! Many people are not using custom ROMs anymore..stock with a few add-ons is fine when they have so much control of their own customization. Back in 2010-2011 everything was brand new Eclair and Froyo...so much innovation on mods and fixes...that eventually became part of Google code and most mods only needed a few tweaks to work on the next version of OS. Also back then you had teams and sharing galore...people were happy to share what they made and also how to do it...now some teams do not want to share, they keep the code to their teams only...Devs back then did it for love, the quest for donations was rare. And last but certainly not least...AT&T and Verizon! The 2 biggest carriers locking their phone completely...of course developers will buy something else that they CAN modify...and with that goes those devs that shared things across carriers. So when you feel..."lacking" in the development sense...look at the dev sections here and T-Mobile..then stop in and see the ghost towns in AT&T and Verizon. Moral of the story...be grateful for what you have and maybe think about becoming the next dev if you are sticking around Sammy.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the advances in android as a whole. Each version recently have been massive steps ahead IMO. Back then android still had a ton of tweaks that needed to be made be it for performance, battery life, or functionality. Now, Google has gotten a lot of good upgrades into the os so it doesn't need as much tweaking.
And xposed for sure. When that came out it became a game changer. Before, if you wanted to tweak anything it required someone to make a flashable theme for your ROM, or for you to dig in on your own and tweak it. DPI scaling was system wide and caused issues with some things.
Now we have SIMPLE tweaks for every aspect of the device it seems. And per app DPI changes!!!
I would love to be a dev but lack the time and resources to do stuff, so I'll happily support any dev that's willing to put the hard work into building a ROM. Used to be an HTC fan but Samsung will always be my go to manufacture as long as they keep having an external SD slot.
And big kudos to the CyanogenMod team. I finally decided to try out cm12 and I'm blown away with the level of refinement in the ROM and theme system. Its like I have a whole new phone. And to think they have a ROM for such a huge list of devices is nothing short of impressive.
I'll stick with sprint as long as they keep my unlimited data and keep my phones unlocked. Screw tmo and Verizon.
The other big thing I noticed. Custom kernels are becoming a thing of the past. Evo 4g had like, half a dozen different kernels, some were tweaks of each others, etc, because android still needed a lot of refinement. Now, there's some kernel tweaks, but nothing massive compared to back then.
Sent from my SM-N910P using JellyBombed Tapatalk 2
Yeah I hate what people have done to good devs. If I like something they made I send them what I think is fair compensation for a single user. Strongsteve back in the gs3/note3 days was one of the best in my opinion.

Where at would love to check out your work
Definitely agree, when I had my OG EVO and EVO 3D there were so many ROMs, kernels, and mods I flashed 10 times a day lol. Now you find a ROM that you like and just tweak it with Xposed. I do miss the anthrax kernels...nothing compared. But I jumped off the HTC ship after my EVO 4G LTE, I got it replaced 6 times in 3 months and every replacement broke from the slightest thing. I loved my S5 and I love my Note 4 even more. I don't like how they integrated the battery and got rid of the SD slot on the S6 which is worrying, hopefully Sammy wakes back up and brings those 2 things back on the next line of Galaxys. I was surprised that there was even as many ROMs as there are for the Note 4 given that it's so new. My HTC phones I was always eagerly waiting for HTC to drop the source so a dev here could make a masterpiece...
