Hi guys, anyone coming from N900? Would you recommend Nexus S and/or Android
I had an N810 just for fun way back in the day, but I dumped it because Android totally owns it. If you need a physical keyboard I'd recommend the G2, otherwise the Nexus S is the best.

Physical keyboard quite important for me but so is the stock android. Don;t like sense and other customizations
I have both (N900 and NS).
N900 has 32GB+microSD, better cam, more video and audio format support.
NS has better screen, Flash 10.1 and Android 2.3
Yep, I came from an N900, though I have had Android devices since the OS launched.
Finding the Nexus S a great improvement on the Nexus One, and indeed the N900. The only drawback is the lack of hardware QWERTY.

The G2 is running near stock Android. It just didn't receive its updates straight from Google like the Nexus does.

I'm in love with the MicroB on N900. Is Android browser close to it?
I came from the N900 and have played with the N8 & Dell Venue Pro. In my opinion, android and the Nexus S are head & shoulders above Maemo & N900. web-browsing with MicroB is pretty awesome, and I do miss the physical keyboard for snes emulator and other things, but I REALLY dig the Nexus S.

It's tough to compare.
Browsing on the Nexus is excellent, the UI's great and the rendering is good but for all its sins MicroB was pretty much a desktop browsing experience, and the Nexus certainly doesn't feel like that.
I'm happy with the Nexus though as it covers enough bases to make it an upgrade.
What do you miss most from N900?
I've had n900, for a year since it launched and I love the phone but the lack of support ruins the experience. I've had the nexus for a few days and I thought reverting back to android would be tough (had g1 for a year also from launch) but it was quite easy. I totally miss the dashboard and multi tasking on the n900. That is one thing that android lacks but a quick way to adjust is hold home and use last used apps. The nexus's hardware is good enough that when u open up apps the old apps don't shut off. So u can switch between apps unlike older android phones that wouldn't put apps in idle cause it took to much resources to run multiple apps. Anyways it feels like I'm ranting lol, but bottom line this is my first phone without a keyboard and I don't miss it at all. Andorid 2.3 is a big improvement and hey n900 has a 2.3 port now too try it out.

I'm waiting for nitdroid but still no update for 2.3 port
Yea waiting for the update too. I use my n900 as my dedicated mid. Best one so far =D

Hello,
Have the opportunity to buy a 4 day old second hand galaxy plus for about the price of an galaxy tab 2. The specs on the 7 plus are the "plus" over the tab 2, but the plus still runs on honeycomb 3.0. My phone runs the ics and i'm very happy about ics.
Is the 7 plus a good investment, (will it get the ics one day), or would the tab 2 with the "lesser" specs would be the better buy in the dev support department?
Wich one should you choose over the other and why?
Thanks for the input,
Adam
I can't imagine that the 7.0 Plus won't get ICS at some point, but it is hard to tell when that time may be. It is a much better device from a hardware standpoint, and if it were the same price, I don't think I could pass up the 7.0 Plus tablet. However, if you are mainly concerned with development, I would think that the Tab 2 7" is probably going to be a better option. It already ships with ICS, and given that it is probably the best tablet for the price, I would think that many people are going to be getting one. I'm not sure if you're looking for a wifi only tablet or a 3g capable tablet, so that could change things. I know that right now, the wifi Tab 2 has a mostly functioning CM9 ICS port going, and I didn't see any major issues left to fix (though I could be wrong).
Better sound. The Plus utilizes a Yamaha chip which has issues (or at least Samsung's implementation) with low level volume fluctuation and cut out that is extremely annoying to listeners of light music. The Galaxy Tab 2 7 utilizes a Wolfson chip with none of those issues.
If one desires a better music player, the Tab 2 7 is the way to go in my view.
any other input from galaxy tab 2 owners?
They are pretty similar? I would go for new over used any day. there will be more development for the 2 so if that's your thing you'd be better off on the 2. Only difference I could see was chip set and clock speed.

I have a Tab 2 7" that I purchased a few days ago from Costco, which has a great deal going btw, and I think it is a great little tablet. I don't have a Plus to compare it to so I am not sure the differences.
I don't like the Samsung version of ICS, just my personal opinion, but like posted before CM9 works on it. I have yet to get that installed on mine but I am hoping to this weekend.
I've got cm9 installed on my 2 and its OK nothing to write home about at this point. It lacks flash and hardware acceleration. If you like the cm9 setup go for it but if your looking to get 100% function you'll be disappointed.

The tab 2's sound is fantastic. Blows my galaxy nexus to shreds.
When it comes to media I'd say the tab 2. Raw performance goes to the plus. Then again who knows when the plus will get ICS?
Its definitely a tough choice... not sure what I'd do... although I am very happy with the tab 2.

Tab 7 Plus already got ICS..n its super smooth even on stock ICS...
I have owned both. I lost my tab plus a couple weeks ago and just got the tab 2, my major problem is the lack of development for the plus if you like custom roms. I'm also getting waaaaay better battery life on my tab 2 because of all the developers. I couldn't even notice any of the hardware differences that separate them, they feel like identical pieces of hardware to me.

Get tab2 and install cm10 from www.teamhacksung.org and forget it !!!

I'm currently using aokp jellybean build 2 and its super fast and responsive. I don't have a single complaint. At this stage I would say aokp is more feature rich than cm10

I'm thinking about getting the plus, but after reading this thread, I feel better to go with the Tab 2 7"! I'm getting it to replace over my Nexus 7, since the Nexus 7 is so fast that's why I op for the Plus. Reason why I choose Samsung tablet over the Nexus 7 because IR blaster, and nice speaker and better speaker location than the Nexus 7 is in the rear very easy to get cover up. Also with micro SD make it a perfect tablet ever. So disappointed on the Nexus 7 and probably the iPad mini wouldn't be any better than the Nexus 7.

Amen! The best thing you could do!
The only thing I dislike about Tab2 is the lack of a LED flash.

I just ordered the international SGS3 and have been a little worried that it would be a step back as far as the camera is concerned. The below CNET UK article is the most definitive resource I have found so far. Take a look and let me know what you think!

The problem with comparison test like that those photos are taken without any type of adjustment to the camera such as white balance etc. I'm sure anyone of those cameras could be tweaked slightly and the results of the test could go on and on.
To each his own, it's still a phone first.

EVERYONE has an opinion...even though I prefer the Android to Apple..( I've used both S3 and 4S..I find the Android more intuitive..personal choice though). I have S3 and happy to have it.One of the most interesting features I found in my new Galaxy S3 was the ability to create your own custom vibration notification.

Your reply has nothing to do with cameras (the topic of this thread) and you re-opened a super old thread.

I would not do that.
It's an old phone (about 1,5 years) with specs not much different than NS (screen with higher res, but only 3,5 inches)
95% of cellphones made by Meizu are sold into Chinese market (mainland + HK).
If you're looking for ROMs, mods and other support, you must go to chinese forum/websites.
If you're Chinese (or you can read it) = no problem. Otherwise, IMHO, this is a big disadvantage
I think most of available custom ROM are MIUI based. Since i don't like this UI at all, I would definitely not consider the idea.
The nexus s has the official miui (+ a lot of custom roms too) if you like that interface. If I were to change phone I would switch to the Galaxy Nexus or the next nexus phone (can't come back to proprietary interfaces and slow updates after pure google experience)

I came from 4.3 down to this 4 in screen. 3.5 is just ridiculous. Itd feel like a toy
It's ridiculous. I like the stock 4.1 Jelly Bean. I can't find a reason to change to M9 or MIUI
I do like the sleek UI of meizu though

Then just get it. All you talk about is Meizu (3 threads) so buy it. I think it is silly but hey, each to there own.
Go for it if you really want it. But that's not a good idea.
If you want to change to M9, it has some advantages and disadvantages:
Adv:
- FlymeOS looks like iOS and more prettier with custom themes, you can get them ( some free ) from AppCenter.
- Has important good features of Android such as Market, Google Maps etc ..
- Can root at this moment.
- Editing support is someway better than stock Android, IMO.
Dis:
- You stick with Flyme forever, perhap.
- M9 just has 512 M ROM and original install let you have just 200M free.
- Not sure it can be rooted in future. Besides, it can not switch to more lightweight rom or launcher.
- If hardware is broken it is hard to replace ( such as glass, touch panel etc .. )
- Some games can not run on M9.
- The screen size ( though resolution is 640x 960 ) is too small if compare to phones nowaday.
- You can buy, it is cheaper now, but I prefer you take a look at another China phone such as Jiayu G2 and G3, Newman N1 and Oppo Finder.
- Product lifecycle of M9 is short and now it is nearly end. People focus to MX.:crying:
I own a Meizu M9, it is good, but I must wait a very looooong time to get it rooted. And one time I dropped and broke the glass of it, I must sent it to China so it could be repaired. If Meizu can open their bootloader then it is a happy ending for M9.:victory:
I mean the phone is a RAZR M "2" if there ever was one right down to the shape of the bottom of the phone. Besides the screen resolution getting bumped up to HD from qHD, 10MP camera and typical processor/GPU upgrade doesn't seem much different than a M on a 4.2.2 ROM (don't see much blur at all, even stock android icons).
Thing is I want to support small phones with all the horsepower and features of the larger flagships (unlike HTC and Samsung do with their minis) so I feel a NEED to support it and make it a smashing success... but it seems even less significant then going from I iPhone 4 to 4S.
Also does anybody think the cloud and no hands wake software will make it to an official RAZR M 4.2.2 update... if there will even b a 4.2.2 ( who u gonna cloud share with it only people with the latest Motorola devices have it?)

As much as I'd love a spec bump, I am not a fan of the overall design of the phone. The hyperglaze coating on the rear and capacitive navigation buttons are a deal breaker. Plus, I don't expect this phone to have the type of Dev support the 2012 line had.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
What, I didn't even realize those were capacitive buttons! I don't like that either but I guess 4.3" of screen is really 4.3" of usable space (should have made PIE controls instead). Does the regular ultra have those too?
