This isn't really a question, but more of a discussion. I know a lot of you love the Nexus S because of its size. And I just bought one for precisely that reason: 4.0" seems perfect. I currently have a Gnex and 4.65" is just a bit large. I had a One X for 3 weeks, and 4.7" was definitely too large. My wife has a GS2, and even 4.3" is a little bit too large.
Is the Nexus S the best phone in the 3.7 - 4.0 inch range that is available? That's 9.4 to 10.2 cm for those of you on the metric system =P
I think software-wise and dev-support wise, the answer is clearly yes. But what about hardware wise? There certainly don't seem to be many high-end smaller phones these days, and I think that's a shame. I'd love to see a high end (dual-core, 1GB ram, 300+ppi pixel density) 4" android phone!
I'd look to Sony phones with that size, also nice looking hardware and options. But as for upgradability and community nothing beats a Nexus.
For me no, 4.3 inch is perfect size. But this phone feels so good in hand

Now that we know that despite being what, 1 or 2 years older than it's larger sibling and cousins, it's still going to get the latest and greatest version of vanilla android, and thus more awesome custom ROMs from our talented developers, my answer to your question is:
HELL YEAH!!! :victory:
The sony xperia p and galaxy S advance have much superior hardware. BUT they are still stuck on GB when we will be getting JB very soon lol.
like the 4" phone size...hope there is a new nexus in this range during this xmas (by sony or htc hopefully)

It seems Google really wants button less devices to work so I doubt a nexus would be under 4.3 at the minimum since that would fit in the Nexus S footprint without buttons.
LG optimus X2
Motorala Atrix
SGSII (4.2 inches tho)
Sony Xperia P
Are all much more powerul than the Nexus S and have a 4inch screen.

i would love next nexus to have screen size at around 4,5inches, but not at costs of carrying mini tablet in my pocket.
hopefully they will use front panel more efficiently , with more scrren and less bezel.
Do you think that this is gonna compete with the note2 shoulder to shoulder
What would be your choice??
HTC DLX: Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz, 5' FullHD Display, RAM:1.5GB ROM:16GB, Camera 12MP/2MP, Battery:2500mAh (non-removable) Android 4.1.2

this is also most definitely the HTC nexus

i would go for the Note 2. Based on my great experience with the Note N7000

I am definitely going for note 2 as well..
Sobbing myself with one x..
No full unlocked bootloader
No removable battery
No expandable memory
Very less battery life
Very less updates
And I can bet on it that even this "newer" device will crave for battery..
Samsung and note 2 all the way for me..

About updates, it will probably be a nexus so it will have much more updates.
I prefer the HTC because the screen will probably be better (hate amoled..) and the cpu and gpu are much better! Also, I love HTC

Sgs3 with 720p 4.7" screen and 2100mah battery Has screen on time of 4-5 hrs..
And with full hd 5" screen and 2500mah it can never go up to 5hrs and that also non removable..no way..
Note2 will keep leading..
HTC as always overlooked battery and can never progress keeping it the same way..
Yet another mistake by HTC..

You forget their screen won't be OLED so it won't use as much power though. Still agree they're shooting themselves in the foot with it being non-removable.
Non removable Battery and no SD card support are the reasons why I left HTC.
I'm sure if Htc follows this way ahead they won't be a big competitor for Samsung!

Hmmm...I like my note 2 but HTC device sounds good too. Better camera better screen!
I was waiting for this device (actually oppo announced a 5" 1080p screen phone a while back, both prob use the same 5" Toshiba panel probably)
But I think I'll go with the Samsung because of the s pen and the other stuff like multi view etc, but I do prefer HTC build quality. Sigh, if only Samsung put rubberized plastic and a 1080p screen on the note 2 I'd be good.
Htc
Funny thing that Samsung can destroy htc with plastic phones! I love htc, but can't bring myself to buy a device without a removable battery. Especially knowing how they don't last much more than a year with heavy use, not to mention that its incredibly handy to have a spare. I think they are looking at the iPhone as a model, but don't seem to realize that the main reason people choose android over iOS is the ability to customize their devices and have a spare battery.

I will never buy a phone without sd card support if the base model doesn't have at least 64gb and replaceable battery.

Just my opinion, but I truly believe that there will be no phones with SD cards within 2 years. Google absolutely hates them, and they severely degrade the Android experience.
I might consider getting it, but if it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader I don't see much point at all.
I'm still slightly interested, and hopefully this device magically appears in Verizon stores about the same time as the Note II, but based on the specs i don't know what they're thinking.
-Smaller display (this could be a plus, but I'm skeptical)
-Higher PPI (but there are diminishing returns for PPI, and sometimes a higher PPI can make everything tiny)
-Smaller, nonreplaceable battery (This battery might be 'big enough' but compared to the Note II it's lackluster)
-Probably not enough storage
-no s-pen
-only comes in black (presumably)
I was really excited for this phone a month ago... And I'm still interested in it, but I feel very disappointed.

Can you (or someone) please explain that statement to me?
Why does google hate them and how do they degrade the android experience?
Yep, Any phone with no SD card & fixed battery i immediately disregard as they are against the interests of the consumer.
I was a full on HTC owner but my current Gnote is better than that let alone the Note2.

hard to compare a real device VS a phantom one.
but IF the HTC devices turns out to be real one, I'll choose the note2 just because of the storage size. 16gb is just too small for me :/
This thread is not to complain about the storage, No LTE or if the device is thick. Besides these factors, what can this phone do but the GS3 can't or vice versa? Especially if you are using GS3 now, Let us know why you wouldn't leave GS3 for N4? Thanks
The N4 has better CPU, GPU and more RAM
Also, the N4 gets long-term support with updates, and very quick. Not as on the S3...
It being a Nexus is a big plus. Not to mention the upgraded hardware. I don't have LTE in my area but if I ever feel I have to use it I will just use one of my smartphones that has it.

Right, forgot that
Also the N4 looks much better; very sleek and cool, completely smooth front and the glass looks fantastic.
I've always thought that the GS3 is an ugly phone.
He asked what can Nexus 4 DO that SGS3 can't, not what N4 got that SGS3 doesn't.
I guess what N4 can do that SGS3 can't it' basically the new features added on Android 4.2

I can't wait to get rid of my s3 for a nexus 4 and personally it's the pure Google and fast updates that are doing it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Absolutely Nothing ! If anything Samsung has a few nice little features that Stock Android won't have (and the same could be said about Jelly Bean) BUT the way I look at it if you are not 100% sure that you should sell your GS3 then just don't do it dude .. For some of us it just makes sense ...
1) I get to cut my Verizon's cellphone bill in half
2) I love pure android and the look and simplicity of it.
3) I travel a lot so this phone pretty much covers me anywhere on the planet
4) I really really like the look of the nexus phone line (all screen with software buttons)
5)Fast Updates..
But i know that buying the latest phone doesn't mean you are gonna like it.. I sold my Sensation 4G to get the GS2 pretty much out of impulse and I was really really disappointed on it so when the GS3 came out I was one of the fist ppl in line outside of the store to get it....So NEVER again ! Unless I'm all Geek Out about and specific phone and the look of it I won't buy it ...
Get timely updates.
I'm not sure if Samsung is going to be including Photosphere and the 4.2 camera features in their jellybean update, but those are two cool features that the S3 may not "officially" have for a while. If you root your phone and install an AOSP rom, though, the two handsets are very similar.
The screen on the N4 will be better than the S3, that's the major difference to me. AMOLED has great potential but I'm not a fan of the oversaturation right now. Plus having no physical home button to break is an awesome feature

Yo don't need to have an aosp rom to have 4.2 camera features.
Someone leaked today one apk and three lib files from a 4.2 system dump and I'm already enjoying those features on my SGS3 with stock rom.
It still has some bugs but I think it can be solved with one more apk/lib file.

Vanilla Android and first to get updates are the most important things imo.
I'm really torn between keeping my One X and selling it for a Nexus 4. Updates aren't too much of an issue because the One X has CM10 support, so in terms of hardware and design are there any gigantic differences that would warrant the change?
Also, a question for the Nexus 4's screen: It says it's 4,7 inches, does the include the on-screen buttons taking screen real estate or not including them?

The 4.7" does include the Soft Keys. From what I understand there should be some dev support out there to enable to to change or modify the buttons to either take up less room, or let you take advantage of the entire screen. Plus they should disappear when watching a video/movie. :good:
EDIT: If you don't necessarily need to sell your One X, why not keep it as a spare, or use it as your media device? (mp3 player etc.)
Same here... Planning to sell my one X only if the price is right outside playstore... No word yet on pricing at the place where I live...

Well it's still under a year away, so specs are probably not final, + I honestly think 4gb of ram would be probably be the most during that time. The processer, as specified, would be one of the strongest during that time. The camera is only 8 megapixel with low light. The resolution is sadly only 720p (over 300ppi atleast) but the screen is scratch resistant, or so the video says.

I would have bought two last night, but I held my missus s3 for five minutes, thought about my life, my needs for May '14, looked back at how tiny, tiny her screen is and remembered how even smaller the Edge is, and finally thought, no chance.
Def. Worth more than the $600 /£400 price tag available yesterday - great fleabay item, if I hadn't just bought a pool table I'd have made the investment.

You guys get it wrong. This is not yet another Android smartphone competitor.
This is an Ubuntu PC that also runs Android.
I'm sure everything will be open source, unlike Samsung and HTC. So I think it'll be fully compatible with CyanogenMod.
I've taken a punt on it - not convinced they will meet their $32million target but they will get close. I know 14 may is a long way away but it will probably beat htc and Samsung to the market.
Wouldn't be surprised if its htc they have lined up to make it for them.
Htc did a good job on the x1 for sony - then put it in a different package and called it a touch pro. Same with google nexus and the desire.
Wouldn't be surprised if the ubuntu edge is just next years flagship htc in different clothing.

Just because I think something doesn't make it right. And just because someone else thinks something else on the same issue does not make them wrong. These are known as "opinions" and everyone is entitled to their own. You need to respect other's opinion, bashing it down with rhetorical posts is not the way to go.

There are 5 threads on the front page with little to nothing to do with the Note 2. Let's talk about these in the thread dedicated to other devices:

Will you quit being "Moderator"? You participated in these threads yourself and now you have a change of heart?
Those threads are important for current and perspective Note 2 owners. Beside in lack of new grand developments for Note some community building talk hurts no one....
