I don't understand the reason why there's not a Motorola Xoom 2 ME thread. In the Motorola Xoom 2 (10.1) rom the same of the ME? Thank you guys!
Hey
I have one of those too.
The ROM isn't exactly the same, but close enough that any exploit for the Xoom 2 would also apply.... like the root method.

Thanks for the answer But now have you have a custom rom or use the stock? Because I want to buy this tablet that in my opinion is beautiful, but i'm afraid about the support of developers

The is no custom ROM's or leaks for the "XOOM 2" at the moment due to the locked bootloader, you can only root at the mo. However Motorola recently has been hinting on Twitter that an unlockable bootloader tool is coming, so if they are telling the truth this time then development will come after they release the tool. If you want a dev friendly Xoom tablet I would go for the original but if you fancy waiting a while then I would go for the Xoom 2.

I will say its worth the money. The XOOM 2 has a sexy display, design and weighs lighter than the original Xoom. Plus Motorola should be rolling the ICS update next month hopefully. I will say buy it if you want a device which does the job. But you can always read the reviews from tech sites.

Hey i'm in a similar condition !
What would you recommend between a motorola xoom 3g 299 € and a motorola xoom 2 ME WiFi 264 € ?
Does Xoom 2 will be updated to JB ? Why Motorola supports more his older device ?
Thanks
Google is supporting it mainly, not moto
i found the frimeware to MZ 607, 608 e 616 in this forum....if help.....follow sbf.droid-developers.org
The only thing holding me back from buying this tablet is its support for motorola. they had promised so well JB ICS should be a feasible thing. I would never buy it and then stay with HC
However for the european people http://www.expansys.it/clearance.aspx?featuredTag=moto10&staticPage=motorola&instockonly=false
This is the italian site but the promotion is valid also for France and Germany

Huh? Google has nothing to do with the Xoom 2 whatsoever. The original Xoom was Google's baby and is the Google Experience Device that showcased Honeycomb. It was a Nexus in all but the name.
The Xoom 2 is all Motorola from the customized ROM to the bootloader that's locked down tighter than a gnat's ass. Google does not support the Xoom 2 in any way, shape or form.

True, but they didn't when the Xoom 2 was first released, and Google has made it abundantly clear that, for the forseeable future at least, Motorola is going to continue to run as its own independent company.
It really has to be that way if you think about it, because the last thing Google wants is to piss off their major OEM partners like HTC and Samsung by putting all their marketing resources into Motorola and having Motorola release nothing but phones running in stock Android configurations. That would put an enormous dent in HTC and Samsung's sales and that's a calculated risk that Google can't take because without HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is a mere drop in the bucket as far as the smartphone world goes; and don't think for one minute that HTC and Samsung wouldn't find alternative operating systems or platforms to use if their Android phones weren't moving units.
Nevermind the fact that Verizon is Motorola's bread and butter right now, and Verizon would happily give the DROID trademark license to another OEM if Googarola went to Verizon and said "From this point forward we're releasing nothing but stock Android devices with no bloatware." How do you think that'd go over with Verizon? Yeah, exactly. haha

Yes, i am really frustrated.....

locked bootloader with milestone and worst support from moto.....
and now Asus is able to give custom 3.1 to transfomer users and still Euro xoom owners has no luck to see 3.1 on our stock android xoom.....
how many years do moto need to provide the update where one XDA dev can do it in 1 day???

i can get 3.1 by unlocking xoom and with support of awesome XDA but moto voids the warranty and they don't want to provide the update themselves....so what is it?
when will Moto learn the lesson or do they deliberately ignore Non-US area?

I don't have MOTO but 4 of my friends do I can see the frustration even in the atrix users due to being locked up tight I'm sure many devs feel the same in there forum .
That's why I took my frustrations to the company direct HTC but I know thousands have to MOTO with no response it seems people say they will u lock end quart 4 this year maybe .. I think you can try your best to get them to do something I support anyone who wishes to make these huge companies see the consumer is what is most important ..
Xda is amazing I've been using 2.3.3 or a ginger based rom for a while people on HTC fb still asking for ota updates for the EVO 4g ..
So either keep on going after MOTO or hope the devs can make something happen..
Oh and nothing will happen till you get them to really hear your voice best of luck ..

I'm still on the fence with regards to buying a tablet, but the lack of European support from Motorola isn't doing them any favours as far as my decision is concerned.
The lack of support for euro xoom is pathetic, this is my first Motorola for years and I would not have brought it if I had realised this was the situation.

My situation:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Still no UK price or confirmed spec, desperately waiting for some news on this. Have a feeling that it's going to be too expensive but who knows?
Motorola Xoom
Love the build quality and that's got my interest, not sure that I'll be satisfied with the display. There appears to be limited Euro support (bad Motorola!) and not so much activity in the dev section for Euro Xooms. Quite expensive.
Asus Transformer
Ex TF owner due to what I consider poor build quality, but I still haven't dismissed buying another so long as I can get a good one. Good spec, decent price in comparison. Asus appear to be quite supportive with updates, dev section looks quite active.

It is kind of odd bc Samsung seemed to be the opposite when I was with them.
The update has only been available in the states for 5 minutes, so what's the big deal?
Also as the stock Android device, isn't Google responsible for the Xoom updates, not Moto?
It's the same process of all manufacturers to roll out updates by region.
It could be a lot worse, take Samsung for example, it took them about 7 months just to roll out Froyo to their Galaxy S handsets, then another 6 months for Gingerbread.
My European HTC Desire is still using Froyo

The 3G US Xoom update has been out for 2 weeks now. The big deal is the update includes fixes for long lists of bugs for 3.01, which is not the most stable OS to start with. I don’t want my Xoom running on older and buggier software for any length of time more than necessary.
As a customer, I don’t care who is responsible for the update. I expect my device to be update in a timely manner like IOS/Windows desktop. If Motorola/Google cannot deliver on this, than I’ll simply choose a different manufacture or operating system for my next device.
Those updates are for new operating system, like you said Eclair and Gingerbread. We are talking about an update within Honeycomb, so its not a fair comparison.
Bottom line, I'm also frustrated with no 3.1 update outside of US, and no time line on when we will get it.
Did Motorola say that?
You bought the XOOM from Motorola, so no matter what... Motorola is responsible for the update!

Xoom in Europe is different, its GSM not CDMA like the US.
The iPhone argument does not hold water either. The Verizon iPhone doesn't have 4.3 which has been out for months, the difference between the two phones is the same as the difference between US and non US, the radio.

Mr. Schmidt in a 2 second quote confirms ICS to be released in October/November of this year. We already knew sometime in Q4, but it's good to hear an official confirmation!

Just looking out!
hopefully that equals nexus prime and/or xoom2 being released by thanksgiving
For some reason I've been pretty much banking on the fact that ICS is coming out in October. I can't remember where I heard it (or even if I heard it), but October/November cannot come soon enough.
I had my mind set on December for some reason, so keeping to that so not to dissapointed by the delays.

Not to be anal about it but Google does not own Motorola yet. Google as entered into a definitive agreement (i.e. contractually binding) to purchase Motorola Mobility but it still has to go through regulatory approval in US and EU before it can be completed. The acquisition will probably not be complete before Q1 2012.

I must admit that this would be a smart move on Google's part. I mean... I love the Droid's: I think they are the best by far. And with Verizon's network and their 4G LTE speeds, and with the release of the Droid Bionic, we have another epic phone joining Team Droid.
If Google were to buy out Motorola Mobility, would this make the Droid family the new Nexus? Meaning... the Droid brand would then belong to Google? If so, I am looking forward to that! The Droid's would become the official Google devices that get all the updates first.

It's interesting that they will be updating the low end (and low res) devices like the minis and the Live. There are lots of apps which don't support those resolutions anymore, isn't there?
That's one of the big reasons I think the American system is flawed, regarding to their (your) own different models of the same phone. In the end it's you as the customer that has to pay the price.
Not to say its confirmed you won't get it either. But doesn't sound like you have much faith in them (Verizon).
I realize this can be an issue in the rest of the world too depending on what manufacturer you have on the phone and their policy of updates (or lack of them). But it's not quite the same as companies demanding different hardware and stuff for their model of the same phone creating even more issues for customers.
VZW managed to get Froyo to the LG Ally, one of the worst Android phones, so I think we will get it. Pretty positive about that, if not, there is always XDA

Lol, Ics isn't even released in the Nexus yet. Give it some time to see how it works in real life. Eventually the idea is that Ics is an improvement over Gingerbread, so there shouldn't be any cons.

Yes I understand that Google wanted the patents but being the highly respectable and profitable company Google is, I don't think they would allow Motorola to keep losing money like they were for the past few quarters so I'd expect Google to make Motorola grow further.

If anything Google need Motorola to compete with Apple, all this time they were competing without actually having there own manufacturing and design process(apart from the few nexus phones)This could actually allow Google to excel further than Apple as they would be in charge much more than just the OS.

The future of the lapdock is really a huge question mark.
The good news is that Motorola's CEO is now out and a new Google surrogate is in. Motorola will move in whatever direction Google wants it to. That probably means going Nexus, if not in name, at least in software development. I.e., less Blur and faster releases.

I did say JellyBean not ICS, we've all seen the ICS beta for the Razr which i'm guessing was down to Motorola not Google, I think Google will see that there is a market for this kind of thing so they will probably take advantage of this by expanding the software found on the lapdock

Have to agree. Not sure about the reasoning though. Motto and at$t shoot themselves in the foot on this one. Overpriced the product and tried to get more money for the same data plan. our beloved carriers in the states will not allow two or three devices on the same data plan without charging you more for the same amount of data. Devices like the lapdock or the(greatest device yet) "padfone" will maybe never be accepted here in the states like over seas.

I don't see how anyone who owns a Motorola could be dissapointed, I can only see good things ahead. That may just be because I'm a very optimistic person

you're FAR too optimistic.
What will happen? Will they support our phones more?

I still don't get why people are calling Jelly Bean Android 5.0. It's obviously gonna be called 4.1 or 4.5 or something.

You know that's not an actual announcement by Google, right? Google hasn't yet confirmed the version number of Jelly Bean.

That's true. But so far each new version has followed that pattern. I don't think they'll add a .1 or whatever to ics. Most companies do change it to the next number for new versions. Ie Microsoft, all the android flavors to date, even Apple.
Have you guys read? http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-Canada-no-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-for-the-Optimus-2X_id32715
This can be bad news for us. Remember how LG said that the O2X will get ICS in Q2 2012, and then delayed it to Q3 2012? Seems like its no longer getting it. The Optimus 2X is also a Tegra based phone, so who knows what might happen to our scheduled update...
What do you guys think? Probably Nvidia's fault?
Fingers crossed that our update is still on schedule and that we'll see a leak soon.
Sent from that Atrix.
Indeed if Nvidia is involved in this cancelling that would be a bad news... I tried getting some news on Twitter about the ICS update...
"Rollouts begin in Q3 2012" SERIOUSLY ?! :silly:
I think Motorola and other firms should make a step forward for their community and give them some more news... That's a pain not even knowing if we're getting official ICS or not !
HTC did the same thing to Desire with less than a month to go. I'm tellin ya...don't be surprised.
About two more months to go. Motorola might cancelled it at the last minute.
That would be the worst news we could have... But the Atrix is the first device having the Webtop feature... If we can get Nvidia drivers from other devices and Webtop 3.0 from the Razr or any other device it could work with some settings. The new Webtop is just a tablet mode and a video output switch, we can still hope having this feature even on community ROMs.

Thanks for clarifying. That means we still got hope.
Sent from that Atrix.
Canadian carriers are scummy like that. Sign a 3 year contract (only way to get a discount on a phone), and get a whole 7 months of support.
I would happy even if Motorola said... only a vanilla Google experience will be made available, no webtop, nothing extra, take it or leave it.
I'd take it with no complaints,

As much as webtop is a good idea, it was HDMI mirroring, or the lack of it that surprised me about this phone.

I'd take it too, but I'd love to have FP sensor support, even on an AOSP ROM!
but the ATT atrix will. intl may not get it tho...

atrix will get ics, and if any other tegra2 phone get JB, i dont doubt it help the atrix to get official jb too. atrix is one of the most known phones from motorola, so they may be giving it more love than to other brothers of im. lol
