[Q]Motorola Defy Mini has green lens?

Does Motorola Defy Mini have green lens of SOC , If yes, it would be good for xda developers to port out a good rom for original defy of green lens.
It has Gingerbread 2.3.

Thats exactly what I thought, too! And the most weird thing about this phone, is the fact that it'll have Gingerbread running! Its curious because, I'm sure, it'll never have more power than a normal Defy, but the reason why the Defy hasn't got Gingerbread was to not have enough power to run GB. This is kinda odd, isn't it?

Bull****, that's the reason Motorola gave for coming out with Defy+, Defy has by far the power needed to run GB and ICS. Defy and Defy+ have only one hardware difference: red lense. SAME CPU, just an overclock (which you might have noticed, is done with 80% of Defys on xda)

Sry for not being more specific. I wanted to tell, MOTOROLA told; the reason why a normal Defy won't run GB is because its weak performance. It's not me, stating such crappy reasons.
Another question, do you know something about a Defy+ with green lense? I'm confused, because my cousin has got one. He bought it a week ago. I cant check it, because he's not in Germany atm.

motorola wants your money, and your life, Defy y Defy+ are the same including prosessor the only thing that change is the kernel and OC thats it, check it for your self www.pdadb.net

Defy+ does not have green lense (SoC module), it has Red lense and only red ones (Bayer module). That's why the official gingerbread ROM (for Defy+) and custom ROMs based on it don't work with the Defy Green Lens camera.
Defys have Green Lenses (A small amount exist with Red Lenses), the Defy+ has exclusively Red Lense

Can you please define the difference between the two modules (not only the lens color), you called them SoC and Bayer?!
IMHO both are SoC Modules from different manufacturer - if you have other informarion please let me know!

Bayer is the module's name in the logcat under CameraCommon. That's the most reliable way to check which module you have. There's plenty of threads on that if you like

I bet it was Shah Rukh Khan who has blackmailed moto to release a cheaper device. He threatened to never use a moto device on his movies again....sry if this sounds stupid, but I cant figure out the reason of this, in my opinion, useless device development/release.

News articles about "Defy Mini" are talking about XT320 model. But Motorola didn't mention "DEFY" word in description of XT320 model on official page:

The page claims that the phone is "splash proof, dust proof and scratch resistant", so I suppose the "Defy Mini" name is just coined by the media due to speculation?

it looks like defy mini is completely different from regular defys. arm a5 or arm v6 is completely different from cortex a8 we have and its driver, even if it is for soc module will be incompatible with ours. so no help for us green lens defy owners

The Defy is a World Phone released to many carriers and countries. Bravo is a cheap Defy clone for American Market, from what I can tell. It is almost identical to the Defy, minus the search button and the better camera. That's why there's a lot more Defy Developers; the Defy has a MUCH, MUCH LARGER user base, which in turn leads to it having more Developers in the mix. We have a much smaller user base, so its only natural to have less Devs (well, only Quarx really) for the Bravo.
If you hexdump the bootloader from our 2.2.2 sbf and a Defy 2.2.2 sbf, they're IDENTICAL except for the CG\Efuse values and the file signature. I mean EXACTLY the same. The only differences are small hardware changes, eg our 3MP Green Lens vs the 5MP Green Lens.
While I'm at it, the Motorola Milestone2, Cliq 2, Defy, Bravo all have the same\similar hardware and we can all port from those devices; probably other phones as well. The Cliq 2 guys actually port Quarx's Defy CM7 like we used to. If you search Quarx2k on Google, its one of the first 5 links. I only know that because I forgot to add the .ru when seeing if new roms were out.

[Q] Defy plus or neo V

Hi All,
Sorry to post this query here, but i didn't find any suitable thread to put my post.
I am planning to buy a new phone so bit confused between Defy plus and Sony Neo-V. Like Defy plus because of its water and scratch resistant body. But after reading the dev forum i found that it will not have the complete ICS feature and Sony Neo-V already had an official ICS released.
Kindly suggest if any other phone is there with good feature and ICS support.

obviously, one V is better

neo v has better processor, gpu, same size and resolution screen (but brighter and better), MUCH better software support, amazingly optimized stock roms, and its cyanogenmod supported (while the defy+ is not, at least not officially). basically, the only thing that you have with defy+ missing from the neo v, is the ip67 certificate. your choice.

I love my defy but the locked bootloader is a pain. So if you want to use custom roms better go for the Neo V.

I partially agree, TI omap chipsets are better than qualcomm in my opinion. For everything else Neo V is better.

Even a blind person will choose Neo V. Defy/Defy+ is gud but moto really sucks. Sony Ericsson phones are always gud bcoz 1.) official updates 2.) FXP team
If u still want to go with Defy+, u will surely feel like a handicapped in future.
The only bad that I see with Neo V is the ladies look

To summarize, Neo V scores more for official ICS. Even camera is better, if that matters to you..

Can't get what you mean by broken defy with battery fix, but the locked BL is really a good thing when it comes for novice end-users.. It means no matter how bad you screwed it, there's a good chance you can bring it back to life..

The defy screen is higher. For the other stuffs, I don't know because I don't test the Xperia. I think they are identical. BUT the Xperia will receive ics officially and the defy don't (only support ics by developers like cyanogen). So, the ics support is better with the Xperia.

Defy is way better. CPU is almost the same but Defy is way more quality made, developemt on xda is awesome cause main devs contact users and they are really tyring hard so much that i didnt see it on any other forum for another device. ICS is working good on Defy but its still prealpha and its coming to beta phase. Xperia has a smaller screen and it probably wont get ICS that includes all features. go for defy+

How would you use the phone? I'm getting 3 days on my defy+ with an hour of music, half an hour wifi, 100sms and a minute talk time (all that per one day). I'm satisfied... Both me and my brother are, actually

Bravo versus Defy: ROM

Hi All, so its been 10 months almost since I purchased by Bravo, and am thinking to upgrading to a Defy, however... in GSM Arena, it is listed that the bravo has a 2gb Rom versus the 1gb for the Defy. Is this true? I was not able to find anything on Motorola.com to confirm this.
Would you recommend switching to a Defy, if so which version (+, xt)?

I say keep your bravo. There's a good enough community here behind it with good ROMs to choose from. You can get Miui, CM7, CM9, CM10, and I think bandroidx's custom rom is still here (obsolete, but if you like MotoBlur, go for it).
They DEFY (+, xt) and the BRAVO have the same amount of RAM (~512mb) and internal storage space (2gb). However, the DEFY has Corning Gorilla Glass, which is super scratch resistant and tough, and prevents dust according to GSMarena. The DEFY also has a 4th capacitive button, the search button (which isn't really necessary in my opinion).
There might be other interface differences but I've never played with a DEFY so I don't know. I do know that the Bravo is a really good phone and that this Bravo community is amazing. We could have a really slow, BLUR using, battery draining Bravo, but instead we can have a lightning fast one with all the features of the latest smartphones (ex: most phones with android 4.1.1).

Thanks for the input. I absolutley ADORE my bravo... I currently have Quarxs 4.0 Installed and am happy with it. The only think I dislike about it is the camera... kinda wish it had flash and was 5mpx... that was the major reason for changing.

I did not know that. Thanks! I agree on the better camera with flash though. If I took more pictures I would pick defy over bravo.

I'd just stick with the Bravo unless you find a cheap Defy. There aren't that many differences between the Defy and the Bravo -- Defy is waterproof\dustproof, has a better camera with flash, search button, official moto GB kernel, and all other differences are in the CG levels and partition signatures, etc. Now that we have custom kernels the differences will soon become just the search button and camera. I'll even go so far as to say that our roms will be interchangeable without porting once Quarx gets the custom kernel fine tuned with some Bravo support. As it is, the only reason we have to "port" the Defy roms is to add in our camera driver -- every other code for the most part is shared between the two phones, or actually, shared by the Moto Omap 3630 devices since they use the Defy team's code as well.
Ya gotta love our devs working their butts off to get us working CM7\9\10\11?? roms on the most locked down devices on the market and doing a better job at it than devs on fully unlocked phones. They're awesome. :good:
On another note, almost done with a new 7 port. I've added a lot of tweaks and mods and I'm adding the final touches to it today. I'm having a bit of hell trying to get the ICS framework animations to work on GB, once that's done, I should be done. I really don't care for the flip animations that the CM.com Defy 10\28 rom has and I plan to use the 7 port until PA is back in business. I'm going for a CM7 rom that looks like CM9\10, inverted gapps (almost all of them), tons of init scripts, tweaked for speed & battery life, and use the latest CM10 bootmenu so this 7 can be used a stable base to test 10 roms with. I'm gonna release the rom as a nandroid backup since I'm doing a few tweaks that require either sqlite3 database init scripts (a pita) or instructions on what settings to change to what to have the full experience I'm trying to provide.
I'll be including Holo Launcher (I own the Pro version ) so if you don't like it then install something else, though I recommend Holo Pro since its a very good, fast, and stable launcher on both GB and ICS\JB roms. Holo works better than Trebuchet on PA. Also including MiFileExplorer instead of File Manager (it sucks), Sonny's ICS theme with the additional framework\metamorph addons (no more black on black notification text), SuperSu instead of Superuser (with the updated su binary), gapps (most are inverted) preinstalled, ICS framework animations, and more.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what they want in a CM7 rom??? You'll have about 6 hours from the time of this post to let me know :silly:.
/I could start up a new cm7 thread for most of this post, but I'll just hijack one of my older cm7 threads when I release the rom, until then I'll just post crap in random places.

I've been using it without any issues and it has various init.d scripts and tons of other tweaks along with it. It's worked with each CM rom I've used, so I'm wondering if that will save you some work, rather than have you write all the scripts yourself.

Well, now that I have a Defy....Defy is better. Get it, you won't be disappointed. My comparison -- Defy feels more durable while holding it, Torch is awesome, the waterproof\dustproof covers (usb, headphone, battery cover) are annoying but worth it. My only issue is really a non issue -- I have to add in the correct battd (I recieved a greenlens Defy, using my Bravo's battery which is the same as 525 Defy and JB 2nd-boot uses 526 Defy+ battd). I'll end up getting a 526 battery, although our BF5X batteries can be picked up for $4 (~$6 after shipping).
Bravo is well worth keeping -- useful for testing roms, backup phone, etc. I'd never get rid of my Bravo, its too good of a phone.

Good to know you own a Defy now, I think you will improve more your knowledges about Android, as we all know Defy has a more activity which is good to learn more following the steps of Quarx.

I plan on it , but CM10 on the Bravo is gonna take a back seat for the moment. I've put 2+ weeks into getting it to function properly and haven't made any headway on it....I gotta get to updating PA since its starting to fall way behind. As is, the only way I can improve my Android knowledge is to get a uart board (for kernel debugging) and some books on C and Java. Merging code is one thing, writing it is a whole different story.
//Plus I only have one battery for two phones....Need to get another battery for my Bravo. Also, here's a pic of my Bravo so you all know what I've been working with for the past 6 months.
