Ok people, many of us has dreamed of a phone sometime in our life, but because of lack of money or other reasons, we were not able to acquire this 'particular' device.
At this moment, I am sure that many people are still hoping to get the Galaxy Note but can't afford it. We are really lucky to be able to owe a Note/S2/S3 now but I am curious about which device you were drooling some years back and were not able to get?
As for my part, I was looking forward that the Samsung W880 12M Amoled gets released worldwide some years back but unfortunately Samsung only released it in KOREA - so the phone was not available for purchase for international users.

What about you?
Galaxy Note with S3 Screen and hardware would be my dreamphone (for now)
Htc hd2 was my unattainable dream phone. Edited because i accidentally wrote sensation hd initially, but I've never wanted that one at all.

N97 was a dream device which had a lot of defects so then I got n97 mini which also had similar products but was jealous of the original. At one point was jealous of N900 when I owned the N97 mini. Was jealous of n95 when I owned n81. I was also jealous of the extremely bulky N73i a really long time ago. Every recently I do get jealous of phones with slide out keyboards. And I love my note but my heart belongs to slide out keyboard but I doubt such phones future with the number of touch screen phones. About 2 years ago, a normal phones is normal screen with keypad, and smart phones/expensive phones were touch screens only. But now both smart and not so smart phones are all touch screens just with difference in specs.

Right from Nokia 6600
Which kick started the smart phone market
I had always got the phone i loved n wanted
Except the iPhone,i choose hd2 over it coz it was a bit more expensive,n i was right, the hd2 was a revolution, it was considered too big for a phone, without keypad, but thanks to xda the port of android made it a dream phone,n showed the world the power of big n android, the note is the next evolution, I'm happy i have been the part of the evolution, all thnxs to xda

Dreamphone has a never worry powersupply, solved that sort of with the Mugen 5400, and at home a dockingstation so I could use it as a full desktop replacement.
And of course a supercamera.

My dream phone was always something like that:
- Biggest screen available
- AMOLED display
- Good open OS
- Decent battery life and good hardware
So until some other company releases Note-like device with better hardware or Samsung gives us Note 2 ( assuming it will be much better than Note 1, otherwise i might not upgrade because what for anyway ? My Note already does everything i want it to do, and quad-core cpu won't make me switch cause i frankly dont need it ) i guess Note is my dream phone.
I used to think about HTC Titan as of my dream phone - i love Windows Phone 7.5 but when i learned that Microsoft is not going to update existing devices, and even WP8 will remain as closed as WP7 - i simply gave up on it.
My dream phone evolved with technology:
1) First it was owning the Slide out phone from The Matrix (except with Titanium)
They did it with the Nokia 8800
2)Then it was a Nokia phone with colour screen and a Camera
The did it with the Nokia 6610
3)Then it was about a Nokia phone with 1+ Megapixel camera and larger colour screen. And possibly a different layout like:
6800, NGage, N90.
4)Then I owned the HTC XDA II. I realized the potential of a larger screen, which meant more than 2inches... 3.5inches was HUMOUNGOUS. And realized with better processor and WM 2003 software, there were more possibilities which meant Music + Videos + Camera + Primitice-Internet for Google/Emails and best of all GBA Emulator!
5)By this point the PSP debuted and I couldn't afford it and lusted over it. Yet I had the iPaq h2210. My dream phone would be a h2210/Xda II with Gaming controls!!!
Then pda's evolved. I wanted the iPaq rw6815 with Gaming controls. Or a QWERTY keyboard. I was becoming proficient with xda-developers.com and Windows Mobile 5.
The N95 got released and it was meant to be revolutionary. To me it was a big downgrade from the rw6815 (which I couldn't afford).
6)Then the mother of all modern smartphones arrived.
It was the first from this company and it was revolutionary, it was the HTC TyTn II.
I lusted over it for so so long. This became my dream phone.
Then I had another dream phone, a T9 style pda-phone with GPS. And this became a reality with the Mitac Mio A702 !!!!!
7)Just when I saved up enough money for the A702 (which got cheaper), my other devices were taken from me. I had to start from scratch. And then a new competitor came on the scene the HTC Touch PRO.
It was the tytan, but better in every department. So it was a worthy upgrade than a a702, and it was going to get xda support.
Meanwhile, Apple released the iPhone. I didn't know about it back then. And it was such a downgrade to a HTC TP. By this time, Windows Mobile 6+ was showing its age.
Where was my dream phone, a HTC Touch PRO with a Gamepad !!
8)By the time the iPhone came to Australia, it was the 3G model. I picked it up and was wowed, because they solved many problems from the first version and the novelty of a capacitive screen and large fonts were great.
And I also got to see the HTC Dream, aka Google G1 phone. It was a piece of sht.
The Touch PRO was better, while the TP2 came out and it was a downgrade in my eyes.
At this point I got separated, my choices were:
-iPhone 3G
-HTC Touch PRO (running xdandroid)
-HTC HD2 (swan song)
-Motorola DEXT (slightly better G1 device) -> great keyboard, emulators ahoy
9)This is where smartphones leaped ahead. A new generation. These were the competition in my mind:
-iPhone 3GS (if you sold your kidney
-HTC HD2 (if you sold the other kidney)
-HTC Touch PRO, bargain (running xdandroid 2.1)
-DEXT, bargain (upgrade to CM5!)
-Motorola Milestone (GameGripper!!!)
-Nexus One (Quake 3 decimator!!!)
-A new flagship Nokia phone?
Found out the locked bootloader in the Milestone the hardway. Couldn't get the Nexus One (shoulda). Grabbed the N900... best decision!
10)By now my dream device was this:
- Maemo software
- Android games
- N97 form-factor
- Gamepad
- Bleeding edge specs (wvga, omap 3430, etc etc)
11)Nokia shot my hopes down. Samsung came out guns blazin. The undisputed best phone was the EPIC 4G. It was cdma. I got the regular i9000 through contract, it was okay, but my N900 was superior software!
12)I had many concepts and hopes of MeeGo devices.
13)More daydreaming about my Tilt-gamepad smartphone with smarter software and ARM technology.
14)Gave up on MeeGo, and N900 began collecting dust. The Desire Z was a horrible choice, not a EPIC 4G contender at all. The Motorola Atrix just debuted, and I would've bought it had it not had the locked bootloader.
I bought an iPhone 4. I saw the direction Apple was going in. After a month I sold it, kept the money. I used the money to buy iPad2 which was shipped to my lil' bro.
I persevered enough that the NOTE came out. I was one of the first buyers.
Away the SGS and the Desire Z went.
The Galaxy Nexus came out, fortunately it was, is an inferior device. I will be holding on to it for a while.
Now, my "dream phone" would be a controller like the Datel TurboFire2 which has a dock. And you dock your phone onto it. Take the controller if you like, or leave it home.
The phone itself is a NOTE-2:

(if I could add to it, no MHL, separate microUSB-OTG and microHDMI ports)

* after porting the latest android rom from the forum on hd2 how many hours the battery runs on it

missing flashlight is not the concern for me....
As both the phones are costing me same price both are used phone in mint condition...
Please advise me...
I have the hd2 and use android every day.my best friend has samsung galaxy s and i can comparize the 2 devices.the hd2 has a gigant display but the galaxy s with its superamoled is fantastic.more than hd2.hd2 android ,in this moment , is not at the level of galaxy s.
Well.after this answers i will buy the galaxy s. I hope to help you in your choice.

The AMOLED screens that samsungs use (and license to apple for the iphone) are the main reason to consider as a plus for samsung.
HD2 is a year old now, but, until the DesireHD comes out, is still the best phone on the market across the piece and has actually got better as people develop for it. There is now a effective choice of 5 operating systems. Cotulla even suggested that iOS would run well on it!
So if flexibility, speed and a big screen are important, get an HD2
If a bright screen is important the galaxy s's are hard to beat.
I am kind of deciding if I'm getting an HD2, mainly because of its flexibility.
The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant is also on my list, and the display seems nice.
Battery life is my other major consideration. It looks to me that the Galaxy S Vibrant isn't very good at battery life, and that fellow users here have quite varying report on the battery life of HD2 (with android). It's hard to decide.....
and if I read correctly, the large capacity battery of the HD2 isn't support by android (or is it?)
I have both the vibrant and the HD2. I can say if you want a gorgeous screen, light as hell phone with lots of power under the hood (somewhat flaky Gps) then get the vibrant.
If you want to Tinker A LOT with a huge screen (not as vivid) and lots of power under the hood also then get the HD2.
I personally like the vibrant more but love to Tinker and the vibrant scene is sloooow going (thanks samsung) the HD2 is a dream of you love to mess around with you phone a lot.
The only thing for me I don't like right now about the HD2 is the horrid battery life when in android.

HD2
+ highly modifiable
+ WINMO, ANDROID, UBUNTU, (MAYBE WP7)
+ TOMTOM (only winmo!)
+ PSX GAMES with PS3 controller (only winmo!)
+ android running atm with > 24 hrs normal use, wifi, a lot of texting and calling
- Android not 100% stable atm
- weight (it's not light, but you get used to it fast)
- no front camera (I would have loved that)
- speaker is in front, but media speaker is at the back, that's really a dealbreaker, I don't know how the Desire HD is doing on that part
- if you ONLY want android, don't pick HD2, I get a lot of time without signal (tried a dozen radio's, nothing solves the problem perfectly)
I had a samsung before I bought my HD2 and it sucked, but running android, it might be worth giving it a try. My phone before (the samsung) glass broke after one week I had it.. I hope samsung learned from it and made their screens better.
+ for the HD2, my phone fell down on the floor REALLY HARD about 6 times allready, only thing that always gets loose is battery cover, but my screen is still intact, allthough my phone 4/6 times landed on the screen itself and not on the back.
I would go for a desire HD, but I don't know if there are phones that HTC is releasing any time soon? My HD2 costed my 600 EUR so I would like to be certain that if I buy a new phone, that it's the best of the best. Like you I guess
My advice, wait... don't buy the galaxy S, a friend of my has a galaxy, it doesn't really differ much. I bet in 2 months, the next gen of devices will be even more wicked.
LCD or AMOLED (both have positive and negative sides, that's a little subjective)
If you only want to run android, get a native android phone. If you want to spent a lot of time hacking and setting up your phone and play with different OS's, then get a hd2. But understand that you have to have the time to spend researching and setting up up to get it stable and the way you want. It's not for the everyday person who just wants a phone that just works out of the box.

Cobaltcontroller is what allows you to use ps3 or Wii controllers through bluetooth... fpsece is the playstation emulator. A very good one, too, with years of development work behind it.

i have both as well. if you want a native android phone then get the vibrant. cm6 is close to being ported over and 2.2 update should be able by the end of this month. gps issues seemed to have been fixed under the current wave of OTA updates.
the processor especially the gpu on the vibrant is the best i've seen. it's right up there with the iphone4. i'm not surprised since samsung is the one who makes the iphone 4 processor lol. after rooting and overclocked the vibrant to my liking, i'm pulling quadrant scores over 2400 lol. although these scores some times are inflated it goes to show you that the samsung processor is on a different level over the last gen 1ghz snapdragon.
the hd2 is nice due to its huge screen and ability to port different OS. i'm actually waiting to see if we can port over win mo 7 on to it.

The iPhone uses TFT-LCD screens. No one is licensed to use Samsung's screens except them. Also my cousin sitting next to me right now has a vibrant, the screen isn't necessarily brighter, but it's more vivid and the colors are better. Personally the Samsung crapware really sucks, too.

I have both, I would go with the Vibrant. It's has hands down the best screen n GPU of any phone. It'll probably offer the most relevancy in the long run. The HD2 imo is one of the best phones to be released but I'll go with the Vibrant if I had to choose one.

Morning all!
Hypothetical question time.
We're more than used to getting a slice from all worlds with our lovely HD2s, but what if we had to give them up tomorrow?
Now that we've had a taste of almost every new-age system out there, which new device would you choose?
Would you go for for example - the decicated Android cousin of the HD2, the Desire HD? Or has WP7 tickled your fancy to the extent that you'd consider a HD7?
Money's not an object!
For me - it'd be the Desire Z (aka HTC Vision)

After watching Android develop over the last 6 months I can definitely say it's the OS for me. The openness, the ability to customise, the constant development and the stability does it all for me! I'd not touch WM6.5 again, though doing so on a new device would be difficult anyway! WP7 is nice, respect to MS for what they're doing and all, I don't think its for me.
As an everyday device I think the 'Z' has it all. I'd take it over the Desire, Desire HD, Evo, X10 and similar stuff. Boots within a second or two from nothing, no lag/slowdowns and I'm a sucker for a QWERTY keyboard, or at least having the option to use one! The screen's big enough for touch typing and everything else and despite the keyboard adding an extra layer, the Z feels just right when being held. Feels more ergonomic than the HD2, IMO.
Downside is going to a 800mhz processor from the HD2's 1ghz... I guess I should test non-transcoded XviD's on the Z and see how it handles them.
So that's my choice - what would be yours?
i think your choice is inferior device, since it has slower processor and not much better but smaller lcd screen
models with mechanical parts should be avoided ( i had many sliders before and many problems too)
you should always keep hd2 even if you get new phone
i bought iphone4 , better screen including superior multitouch performance, more memory, really wide selectoin of apps ( in my opinion superior to every other option including android) , phone looks really good, it has nice battery performance.

The G2's processor eats the HD2's processor for breakfast and then it can take a dump, a ****, and an enema and still come back and own the HD2's ass.
I say this because I've tested the G2 for about two weeks but in the end, I came back to the HD2 because I couldn't stand the heft. I only used the keyboard three times in that period. Maybe keyboards are simply just not for me. (G2 is still a bloody good phone though, and the construction is superb. The hinge issue was literally blown out of the water with a 100 kiloton nuke).
The G2 also has an SLCD screen which is seriously much better than an HD2. Put up the same picture on the screen and you'll see what I mean.
You say the G2 is an inferior device, with one of the reasons being a smaller LCD screen. Why the hell did you choose the iPhone 4 again? Was it for the 4.7 inch screen?
How is 576mb of ram on the HD2 less than the 512mb of ram on the iPhone4? Is your quantity of 1mb of ram on the iPhone somehow worth more than 1mb of ram on the HD2? Did you sprinkle some apple sauce on it or something here?
Please, if you're going to gloat about your iPhone 4, get your facts straight first.
HD2 is a very nice phone though. The screen size and the slimness is just perfect so a new phone at the moment wouldn't be needed unless I break it o.0
There's nothing on the market at the moment which I would choose in reference to the HD2 - it's just TDB!
If I have the choice it would be Moto Atrix.
I love the ability to transform Atrix to a netbook via a simple dock, and essentially taking all my files/work with me no matter where I go.
I wish HD2 supported video out then I don't need to have laptops anymore. The only downside for any phone is the screen size, but Moto Atrix has given a practical solution to that.
But trade HD2 for anything on the current market? No.
My old HD2 had to go to the service center due to digitizer problem, so... I bought another HD2 to have a "spare" one. It is a magic phone, with all the possibilities.
Indeed it has some hardware problems and bad battery life, but there is no better choice now.
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
To me, there isn't any device, released, with so much of a big improvement over our HD2's, hardware wise. Our HD2's can still keep up with the rest of the pack in my opinion.
If say, some of the upcoming phones were to be released, I'd get a Samsung Infuse.
HD2 is still the best hardware today, and next half year
If I had a choice?
I'd replace it for a newer HD2.
Personaly: another HD2!
Possibly a HTC Inspire HD. My girlfriend has one, it's not as pretty as the HD2 but it's a nice little phone - how does it match up to the HD2 in terms of hardware?
I love the HD2 and all but Windows Mobile 6.5 just isn't right and android can be a little hit and miss at times (but still better than WinMo) .
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I wouldn't want to trade my HD2 for anything... I like both WP7 and Android, and really would have a hard time choosing between the 2.... but if I HAD to choose another phone right now, I would probably go for android and get the Dell Streak or Desire HD. I love the big screen and look of the streak, but I think the DHD has a little better hardware and more ram. Luckily we are not forced to get a new phone... if I broke my HD2 today, I would get a new HD2... that will be my answer until the next generation of dual-core phones are released. Even then, it will be hard to go to a phone with only 1 OS now that I've been spoiled by the HD2.
There isn't a phone that appels to me in the market at the moment, so I'm sticking with the HD2. My phone next needs to have a dual core processor with decent power/battery usage ratio, a SAMOLED screen that is bigger than 4", Android 2.3 and atleast a gig of RAM. Right now I'm waiting for the Galaxy S2, but I probably won't jump ship 'till the reviews are in.
Right now tho, HD2 rockin' Gingerbread is the perfect phone for me. I've tested the iPhone 4 and a Galaxy S but neither of them really cut it. Even though the latest iPhone is a really nice device, iOS is just too constrained and the Galaxy S is a bit too flimsy.
EDIT: Actually, my perfect phone right now would be a HD2 with a Android ROM with a couple more months of development behind it.
Without a doubt the Htc Pyramid. That phone is going to be bad ass. Not too far away either.
I presently have a Touch HD, an HD2, an HD7, a Desire, a Desire Z (G2), a Desire HD, an Omnia 7, a Galaxy S I9000, an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4. I have ordered a Nexus S and am going to get it within a few days. I have all these devices because I write on Android ROMs, hacks, mods, themes and apps for a living and need to test things out. Guess which one of these devices am I using as my primary 24/7 phone?
The HD2! And I don't even have any plans on switching to Nexus S when I get it.
Why? Because they just don't make devices like the HD2 anymore. While many of the above-listed phones might be more powerful and have marginally or even substantially better screen qualities or processing power, none of them is an HD2; none of them can dual-boot Android and Windows Phone 7, while coming originally with Windows Mobile 6.5 (which wasn't a bad OS at all in my opinion).
I wouldn't trade my HD2 for anything but an HD2.
EDIT: Regarding your choice of a Desire Z (G2), although it's your personal choice, I wouldn't recommend it. It looks awesome in pictures but when you hold it up against any of the above-mentioned phones, it starts to look like crap - the build quality really is THAT awful, and lets not even bring up the issues regarding gaining complete system access on it - first there's rooting, then the S-OFF and finally the ENGINEERING S-OFF, the last one having quite some risks associated with it even for power users! Would have been worth the trouble only if the build quality was even remotely close to that of the HD2 but since that isn't the case, it'd be the last phone I'd consider for my daily use device.
Unless someone can port WM6.5 onto a new equally as good or better handset, then it has to be another HD2.
Maybe one day Android will be as good, but probably not for a while
I have mine till October, then ill get a phone that gets released arround that date

I second that.
hmm i'd wait for hd3
I'm not going to lie here, I love my HD2. I've had it for 2 years now, and it's running Android perfectly!
It's that upgrade bi-yearly time though and I'm wondering what newer phones will actually offer me?
NFC - Great, but not necessary
BT 3.0 - For what? I run A2DP in my car + voice perfectly with my HD2
Better display - Well maybe so...maybe so
Advantages of ICS - Well we all know that potentially it will be fully ported to the HD2
Processor - Well maybe snapdragon is single core, slow an outdated, but it still runs things fine for me. I can (as before have A2DP) music, GPS and calls all at the same time.
Seriously, what would a new phone really change for me? You don't have to say one way or the other, it would just be interesting to see some opinions
Cheers!
It'd bring the things you mentioned- faster processor, more RAM, better camera, Bluetooth 4.0, etc etc. There aren't any phones out that match the number of OS options the HD2 has though
Personally, I don't plan on upgrading until my HD2 gets unbearably laggy on AOSP Android, which hopefully won't be another year or so.
The HD2 was a spectacular hype at first, topping charts as the most popular (non-iPhone) smartphone. The large userbase it had that became frustrated with WP6.5 and as such, it got a lot of mod development going for it.
Now that I've had a taste of Android I'll want to use a phone that natively supports it, I'm just looking for the next powerhouse that'll last me another two years. I was looking at the HTC Vigor for its sleek design, large screen and amazing specs, only to find out that Verizon snagged it for themselves exclusively (damn you!).
If your HD2 still works perfectly, there isn't much of a reason to switch unless you can't decide to get a new phone with your plan in the forseeable future. My phone has had its bits of wear and tear, and I think it's now fatally damaged. I don't think many phones would last four years either.
I really see no reason to upgrade. I've been running Touch pro 2 till this summer lol.
The only thing of any worth to me is a higher dpi screen (and better colors) and bigger/longer lasting battery. One the former there's a bunch of phones to chose, but later not so much, and I already have 2 batteries + dock that can charge them.
Yeah, and I dream of a worthy successor to TP2, but those are just pipe dreams as most people think that typing on the screen is ZOMG11!!!1 teh best.
While at it, I miss the stylus, though I'd like an active one ala Wacom. I'd pay through the nose to have such a thing on a phone (and will soon pay through it for a win slate with capacitive+touch to replace my old tablet convertible).
Damn you Jobs for killing the mobile keyboard, stylus and now Flash (I is a Flash dev).
I did think about the pluses of running android native, but I see none. It'll still glitch and crash and/or be bootloader locked, so you could end up in the mercy of carrier/htc :|
Cameras on all phones are very meh, HTC even more so.
Hmm, though Sharp has some SWEET phones I'd switch to, but good luck finding them outside Japan.
Here you go, so you can drool a bit:

Hi,
i am also thinking about buying a new device. If GPS had still the connection problems under android as some months ago, i would definitely do so but now, it istn that urgent (at least not at urgent as my change from orbit 2 to Leo ;P ).
I will certainly go for a new device, but i think not now. My reasons for new device:
Display (samsung Galaxy S2 and S1 showed me what is possible and how ugly hd2 screen is)
bigger ROM (Have EU Leo)
Compass support (i am using my phone outdoor, too and the compass didnt work correctly at any time for me)
More Speed
But i think ill wait till Q2/2012 or so when Galaxy S3 and HTC "forgotthename,thisphonewith12MPcameraandlowlightsupprtandquadcore" will be released...
But I am not sure, yet... =D
Greeting, cmoe
Don't jump man! It's not worth it. Think of what you'd be giving up...
Seriously though... I'm in the same position and have to admit to having had a bit of a look around to see what's available. I've also been looking at new phones... ;-)
Sure there are phones out there now with better hardware specs.:
- dual-core CPUs (there's even a quad-core phone rumoured for next year!)
- super amoled screens
- higher res. cameras and camcorders
- 'Beats Audio' from Dr. Dre (whatever that is...!)
But do we really need all that?
Will one of these new phones allow you to switch back and forth between Windows Mobile and Android (pretty much any 'flavour') when you feel like it?
Will one of these new phones allow you to try out the new Windows Phone 7.5 to see if Microsoft have finally got it right?
Will one of these new phones allow you to personalise and modify the look and feel of it to your heart's content? The new HTC Vigor (or 'Rezound' as Verizon are calling it) is apparently going to be difficult to get into!
Is there really anything 'wrong' with the phone you already have and obviously love?
I think when O2 comes-a-calling (if indeed they do), asking whether I would like to upgrade to a new phone, I will ask them how much they are offering for me to forego a new phone and renew on my old phone. I believe some operators are offering up to £150 in credits if you do this (probably not O2 though...). If they do, I'll take the money and keep my HD2. If not, I'll keep my HD2 and switch to another operator on a cheaper Sim-only deal.
There... That's my tuppence worth on the subject...

Oh my damn that is gorgeous!
I'm looking to buy a Desire Z as a gift, and wanted to get some second opinions on the phone. Is the keyboard decent? What's the speed like? How sturdy is the keyboard hinge?
Also, is it fairly easy to root?
I've got an original Desire myself so if it's a roughly similar experience to that but with a keyboard then that'll be good.
Cheers
It's a great phone, 2nd Gen Snapdragon, Adreno 205 GPU...but it is also fairly late in it's life. The keyboard is great, and while people have differing opinions on the hinge, I haven't had any problems.
Just know that it doesn't hold a candle to the 1GB Ram/Dual Core beasts being released today.
Sent from my T-mobile G2 using Tapatalk
The hinge problem has been previously blown up, it is fine.
I couldn't imagine living and typing longer than an sms without a keyboard, I still love it and use it for longer input. If I was buying a phone now I probably could sacrifice the keyboard for a front camera or more CPU power or so. I could even buy a Desire S or a Sensation (just to be in this pricerange). Phones change quickly, quadband is here, I still love this phone.

in my opinion its still a great phone... sure there are better ones out now rooting isn´t that easy, but not very hard too (if you know how to use adb, you are fine) If you are on 2.3+ it could happen that you need to create a goldcard while rooting...
...what rather concerns me right now is the fact that a lot of people seem to have a problem with a fried emmc chip.
here is a link to the wiki-guide for rooting (so you see how its done):

Thanks. Dual core and that isn't a concern, the intended owner is not really fussed about those kind of things, having a keyboard is more important, and I trust HTC as a brand.
Have ordered one now.

I sure wish you could NAME a better phone that is out now!
Remember, it must have the reliability, style, and expensive feel of the G2, must have a great hardware (real) keyboard and beautiful gorilla glass screen like G2, and must be root/developer friendly, have removable battery, and it must provide wifi calling in my weak signal area and free tethering and portable wifi hotspot, and do all of this for US$60/month no-contract service with unlimited 4G everything and no overage charges possible like my G2!
what better one ya got that does all of that?
that's right - NOTHING!

I concur, there is nothing else out there I could see me replacing it with at the moment. I need a hardware keyboard.. More ram and a faster CPU would be handy though... Refreshed DZ required
Great phone, and i will use this as long as it works. I'v had this about little over 11months now, no problems. Only thing is, screen has one frozen pixel in it, tough it's on the side, close to a corner so i barely even notice it, if i look for it, i can see it.
There is Motorola Droid 4 coming, sure looks nice whit that 5-row qwerty. If i would have waited a year longer to upgrade to smartphone world, id get it when it comes.
Now i'm planing on getting a tablet, to get the horsepower going on android. possibly transformer prime, or smth, wonder what CES brings to the table.
I love this phone! Sorry i got drifted to little off topic here.
I won't get another phone until there is a worthy successor. I would like to stick with HTC and I need a qwerty KB (well strongly prefer to have one) so here is hoping for a G3 sometime soon.
Until then though I still get great performance so no immediate rush.
There was also a Samsung qwerty slider I was reading about a while back, can't seem to find the article anymore.
Yea Samsung captivate glide, looks pretty good actually got a tegra 2 processor and 1gb ram... plus one of those beautiful Samsung screens

I agree with flinny if they can refresh desire z 2 aka htc t-mobile g3 with stock in usa. I would love to have front face camera,1gb of ram i hate using my mirror to video chat. Get amoled screen back like nexus one. Add the hardware 5 key rows they had on g1 to g3 .
Hopefully stop selling to many damn Htc phone their selling about 10-15 device every year i wish they can stay with 3-5. Limited their work because then they make users like me hack my phone to get update, that they should be doing themselves. Instead of making excuses on why they cant update 1 device to the other.

Looked very interesting to me at first, but reviews have been far from stellar:
http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/20/review-samsung-captivate-glide-att/
Looks like cheap exterior build quality, and crappy flat keyboard. Nice screen, but hardware specs are merely ok compared to other high end phones currently being released. A Galaxy IIS spec phone with decent keyboard would be killer. But this ain't that.
Can't any manufacturers come out with a high-spec phone, with a decent keyboard?
Don't get me wrong, I love my G2. But that being said I also love android which means tons of widgets and apps which tend to slow the slightly slower (ie experienced ) processor/ram on the G2. And I have a pretty quick ICS rom..
But that being said I am constantly on the prowl keeping an eye for the much rumored G3. Im sure others are like me. Unfortunately HTC sounds a bit anti-qwerty (and more and more anti-developers) lately (karma=loss of market share?) so it might be forthcoming.. ever.. So we must to other qwerty's.. I love HTC build quality but if a nice samsung or motorola qwerty comes along I might be out..
Sorry to beat around the bush, but I found a newcomer which seems pretty rocking. Check it out!
(Granted the name is not as slick or sexy as G3.. and its on sprints network ewww haha)

Mmmm look at that 5 row qwerty!!
And engadget loved it : "This is one of the finest physical keyboards we've used on an Android device in quite some time."
Granted I dont use sprint/sprints bands but at least phone makers are making qwertys with at least reasonable specs and ICS. Perhaps they are getting smart and trying to capture the rest of RIMM's market share..
unuseable for anyone who isn't on sprint. embedded sim card and i heard, non replaceable battery
such nice spec but such locked down features......
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
I was looking at that my self and first of all motorolla from what i understand is even more anti dev than htc. Also the non removable battery kills it too as said before. I still have my fingers cross for the Galaxy Relay to have an S4
i like the phone.. just the fact that it's locked up tight like an adamantium chastity belt that's been welded shut rather than have a lock around it.
Yea the device is pretty nice but they totally dropped the ball on the embedded sim issue. While Motorola traditionally locks down their bootloader, this device is shipping with the ability to be unlocked.
If it had a removable sim & battery it would be totally killer, but it doesn't so it's a no starter.

Sprint and Verizon are not the carrier choice for people (like me) who always need to travel outside of US.

agree, too bad. Id probably drop everything for it if it were gsm with a removable sim card and battery.. too bad too sad
Somebody knows about good QWERTY Android phone (with native ICS)? Replacement for Desire Z / G2? Can´t google anything...
as of now? there's only the relay which has embedded sim and nonremoveable battery.. and another one.. i can't remember off hte top of my head but it's headed to tmobile i believe.. that means you'll be stuck with a quirky band that wont work anywhere else inthe world.

Relay hasnt been released yet and so far seems that it has removable bat and obvs removable sim because its tmo. Maybe you are mixing up names.

i might be mixing up. i know the cdma one, has non removable battery & sim.
although the tmo one still probalby just has tmo's bands only so it would only work halfway with other carrier's (say.. at&t or any other carrier around the world )
EDIT: after doing my reading again, what i was referring to was the photon. not the relay. Apologies >.<
This is proof that other manufacturers are hoping to cash in on HTC abandoning the original Android consumer base (those of us who prefer physical keyboards).

I like how you said "original android consumer base" its so true, its seems mfgs just want to be like apple and that was the reason i went with the G1, i HATE on screen typing, i LOVE keyboards but no mfg wants to release one that is equal to the specs of the latest non qwerty. If this relay comes out and only has an S3 then it just shows no one cares about us qwerty lovers.
I need someone to buy this, tear it apart, and take photos, so i can see if it´s possible to solder an other sim in there.
This really needs to come to europe.
I'm so with you on the "HATE on screen typing and LOVE keyboards". Good thing I baby my G2 cuz it looks like I may have to keep for as long as possible.
Is that the Droid 4?
I recently acquired a Motorola Droid 3, which looks VERY similar to the phone in your pictures, so I am thinking it is the Droid 4, which was recently released on Verizon. Seems to be something about cell phone companies and phone names, they want to give it a different name on every carrier...
Another keyboard phone of interest to some is the Samsung Galaxy Q. It is a low end phone, but has a very nice keyboard, better than any other Samsung phone with a keyboard I have seen. I bought one for my daughter, and it works quite well, especially considering the price.
I'm actually gunna keep the desire z, I think it'll last another year, and with my nexus 7, I won't demand as much from it! Who's with me

And then hardwaremod the crap out of it.
On that note, could you help me find out highest possible mW output on the powerline to the led? Don't care if it fries the original led, i want to put in a high power laser led in the phone
