Vodafone UK speed test - Galaxy S III General

Hey guys!
Here's a quite subjective test I've just performed today.
I've tested the modems that you can find in the Omega files app, by taking 3 wifi and 3 network download tests using the Speedtest app.
I have ignored the network tests with very high latency(>600).
Also, the wifi test is very subjective, as it is a workplace network, so it massively relies on other user's usage.
I am on Vodafone UK, and the test was done in central London

This may not be helpful for many, but I thought I'll just share the tests anyway.
I forgot what modem the original vodafone S3 comes with; could anyone tell me which one it is?

The indicators are not true indicators of actual performance .

I guess...I just wanted to test which modem is good for me, and while doing so, I thought to share the test results.
I just found out that the stock Vodafone UK modem is BULF1.
I am going to try this now and see how it performs.

I'm getting at 58.3kbps which is 7.1 k on my first try using Cingular GPRS Unlimited.
Second try 51.6kbps 6.5kbytes
Third try 51kbps 6.3 kbytes
Which is correct if I compare it to my SPB GPRS Monitor.
Please don't go off topic and ask question on how to setup the GPRS. Search the forum!
Very high resusts :-/
Strange....
I do the test many times (cleaning cache between test)
I have 136kbps / 16,7 ko/s !!!! (max)
but the average is 102 kbps / 12,5 Ko/s
I'am in France with Orange - GPRS, I put classe 10 in GPRS option.
the result are very hight, but when i use PoketIE the surf seems to be very slow... I want to say that a nokia show html page faster than my QTeK.
Maybe i download quick but the ping is very very bad...
and you ?
Thanks garou
I already have GPRS set up for (only) T-zones for T-mobile US. It only registers 7.6kbps and .9 K bytes/s. How do I clear the cache??? Just refresh?
Hello,
To clear Pocket IE cache.
Open PocketIE
In bottom select "Tools" // "Options" // clic on "delete files" in the bottom part Temporary Internet Files.
You may delete the cookies too, go to "advanced" and clic on "clear cookies".
Good test !
Your result is very low ... be sure that you do nothing else during test (receiving or sending mail, mms, ...)

Cingular GPRS results
slower than I was expecting: 58.3Kbps / 7.1 K bytes.
vodafone UK result
I just ran the test on Vodafone UK and got 81.6 Kbps (10 K bytes/sec).
But I am currently in a low signal area if that affects the results at all :?:

Is HDSPA a RIP OFF! Lets find out!

I have an ATT-Tilt, I keep hearing that the high speed ATT 3.5g is supposed to go at 3mb down - All I get is somewhere between 100-700kbs Max in Los Angeles. My friend is on Verizon and he gets easily double my max rate all the time. He can watch his slingbox no problem, I cannot unless I am Wi-Fid.
So I think we should all use this post to see just how bad GSM high speed (H or U) is around the world.
I used http://dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1&more=1 and clicked on the 1mb test. To repeat use the back button and click 1mb again. I use IE as the other browsers don't seem to work. I have run the test in various spots around LA.
On each reply how about using this format:
Location = Los Angeles, CA USA or City, Country outside US.
Min = 100kbs
Max = 700kbs
Test Used - dslreports 1mb
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR LOCATION!
Also, if anyone knows of a better test, let us know.
Also, if anyone knows if or when the GSM network will get better, please report.
As far as I am concerned, if this is the status Quo, I am not going to pay them $40 bucks a month for an inferior data service - better phones or not.
I think you are mixing up megabytes/second with megabits/second the HTC Kaiser has a max connection speed of 3.2Mb/s not 3.2MB/s

I clearly show mbs not MBs - I know the difference!
Look at the results - you can see so far only one area that looks like its getting the real deal - probably near SF cause they don't want a full tech-y revolt.
Also please just type in the results and make sure you include a location.

then DO NOT get Eten x800 VGA phone if u want 3.5G HSDPA!
this phone is advertised as 3.5G HSDPA, but all u get is regular 3g UMTS speed at a max of 384k!
good thing this company is not located in USA, otherwise they will get lawsuits for false advertising!
guys, You need to understand that it Can do 3.6mb/s
My Cable internet is rated so that it Can do 12mb/s I rarely get over 2 or 3 mb/s. And that's with a wire.
Wireless connections are even more fragile. if you're getting 700-800kb/s then that's fine. It works the same way a Wifi Access point does. The Further you are from the tower, the crappier the connection is. My tower is about 1300 feet away according to Google maps and I'm getting... lets see here. 672kb/s. I'm also inside. Its also crappy weather outside.
Another factor is where the data being downloaded is being cached. Flash isn't the fastest thing ever, but the ROM Flash inside your phone is WAY faster than the SD Card, and I'm storing my cache to the SD Card.
Another thing, Just like Wifi, More users = Less bandwidth for everybody.
There's even more factors I'm not going to get into.
Devices, Radio versions, Use of Proxies.
Also, UMTS is not GSM high speed, its a completely new technology, and HSDPA is a bolton for it. They are different. UMTS is just the 3g evolution path for GSM according to the world. Keep in mind, NTT DoCoMo went to UMTS (I know, FOMA first. they're going to Plain UMTS now) from PDC.

One more test to run
As to the comment about actual vs real bandwidth - DUH!
Its not about that at all, its about the ability to actually use their 3g to play media of any type.
So here is another test to run - if you have TCPMP setup correctly - go to YouTube.com - use classic mode and try to play any video on their site.
For me, WIFI plays fine, 3g rarely starts up TCPMP.
Can anyone explain why this is the case?

Opera Mini useless testing
I do not care how fast a wired server in Norway can download data. Remember, mini is using a proxy server. That is why it will always report faster speeds. Totally useless.
Please stop using Opera Mini as a speed test. It is totally inOperaBle!
What I am trying to find out is Tilt upload speeds. I am in Houston, which supposedly has HSUPA now, and I have an 8525 and always wanting more. Has the Tilt really tested faster internet speeds than the 8525 (using PIE)?
I'm also in the market for video out, which would exclude the Tilt if I find something better.

Now that's weird! This is not an HSDPA speed. It should be between 384 to 1 m. Is your device displaying an "H" when you conducted the test?

I believe he meant test to be conducted for those who has an H or 3G signal on their phone and does'nt necessarily mean network as the unit uses any available signal within the immediate vicinity but I could be wrong. On the other hand , it's best to use the Pocket Internet explorer because we already know that opera is faster than PIE.

I am sorry, but speed has nothing to do with wich rom you use. I dont know who is telling you this story. The radio version COULD help something in case of better connection.

Just ran the test with a 1MB file.
Result was 775 kbit/s.
Network is O2 Germany.
Test was done inside a building, that might lower the transfer rate.
That site's not much use - I just got 500k on 3G, then 250k on wifi (on the 1mbyte test).
Testmyiphone 3Mbyte seems fairly consistent, about 1.25mbit, or 2mbit on wifi (lowest performance, best battery setting).

test 3: 261 kbs, 0.154s latency, 31.515s

all tests run one after another, with only enough time inbetween for me to copy the results into this post.
the file transfer bar at the bottom?
jumps to 350kb ish instantly
600 / 700 in about 2 seconds
950 a few seconds later
950 - 1Mb takes the remaining 20odd seconds.
not convinced...
LOL.
Posted that, then thought - 1 more go...
test 5: 1156kbs, 0.176s latency, 7.259s
sorry, not going to bother trying over 3G
There was the same thread in the Diamond forum.
It turned out that it also depends on what browser you use.
I did my test with Opera. PIE seems to be slower, so if anyone of you ran the test with Internet Explorer, please re-run it with Opera.

4G Speed

Hello,
I have my oneplus 8 Pro for 3 days now.
I m facing my first issue (i m not sure if it s the device or my operator)
Since i switched the phone i'm facing some problems about my 4g connection. I noticed that i have no speed problems on wifi.
But on 4g the internet conection seems to lag:
It is very variable, sometimes apps take a long time to open, sometimes not. Did a speed test, and results are variable:
For example:
1st Test: download: 0.71 mbps upload 7.24 mbps
5 minutes later: 50 mbps, upload 1,84 mbps
Now i m not sure if it is the operator whose in fault or the new device. Network should be stable (i m in main city) and rarley faced similar problems here.
Is it possible it is the device?
Thx for your help
Didn't use mine on 4G a lot but when I did I had no problems so far. Just made a speed test and had 160 down and 20 up. Will make a couple of tests through the day and come back to you on the results
I tested it all through the day yesterday and today and there was some fluctuations between 100 and 200 mBits download. But that's definitely due to the network. The phone seems to work alright for me.
