From HEROC to EVO SHIFT

This has been a great experience for me and my HEROC. Thanks to all the DEVS that supported this phone to the end.
I have recently upgraded my HEROC to a EVO SHIFT. Hopefully, I will see some of you over the Evo Shift Forums and we could all start over.
Looking forward to rooting, roming, and to the development of this new phone. I'll check back once in a while to see what kind of progreess the Heroc is getting.

I also came from a hero. This phone, imho, was a great upgrade. The physical keyboard is a super bonus to what the phone can do. It is way faster than the hero and can perform just as well as the Evo. Of course that is debatable. For me, I do like the smaller screen compare to the evo/epic. The camera is decent for a 5mp with flash. Being a second gen snapdragon, can't wait for the new development to start.

You gonna make your way over to the shift impaler? Or you sticking with the Hero?
edit: Nevermind I see your using an Epic. Maybe one of these days you can make some themes etc. for the Shift. I like the green/white cirlce battery mod you made me for the Hero.

There was mention earlier on in the thread that Darch may be coming.

No chance of me leaving the Epic, but I'm sure when rooted custom roms come out for this I'll do some battery mods for my app

Does the Optimus S even have its own forum on here yet? If so I can't seem to find it. I know there's a couple for it located on Android Central and Android Forums. Here on xda, I do see a little bit of Optimus S stuff in the 'Optimus One P500' forum -- is that it for now? Thanks, Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. Also sorry for the thread hijack, I won't mention this again here on the Evo Shift forum.

Well, this Heroc to Evo Shift move may not be a done deal for me now that Sprint's got something planned for the 7th of Feb. What about you guys...?

I'm loving this phone. I came from heroc and I'm glad to know sense can be good... if your phone is fast enough to run it haha.

No doubt there, Sense seems fine on this phone compared to my Hero. I came from the Hero, and upgraded my wife's Moment to the Shift also. My wife said something funny about that last night, "They called it the Moment because it only works for a moment." EPIC!! lol

I'm enjoying it, came from a Heroc. Sense is really ruining the experience for me though, even with ADW it just isn't as good as stock or CM6/7. I'm,hoping it gets root soon or its back to the hero.

Feb 7th? As far as I know there aren't any new phones in production other than the blackberry and the HTC Windows phone.

I doubt anything being released in the next couple months will be announced there but they might announce a dual core I hope...lol

Major Improvements of PRL xxx77

Attached below is the internal Sprint document of the recent improvements of the PRL.
Mainly for everyone who doesn't want to read and see the new coverage it turns on 3G Roaming in the following states:
- FL
- MI
- OH
- WV
- WI
- NC
"- PRLs expand 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming coverage in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
- PRLs also add Strategic Alliance Roaming (SRA) to portions of North Carolina. Customers will have a Sprint like experience for voice and 3G services, meaning the roaming light will be off and billed as on-network."
I'll also be writing an article describing in details exactly what is going on.

Instead, I am going to give my Epic to my mom and use her upgrade to get the EVO 3D. When I was in CTIA, the EVO 3D blew me away. It truely is the best device on the planet at this time.

Considering I'm already the Sprint insider for all the Sprint devices...DUH lol
Seriously, I help out all the Sprint device communities. EVO, Epic, Transform, Moment, Intercept, Optimus S, and all of them if needed.

Touche' my friend...but still, it is until a EVO Shift 3D comes out, but it will need to have the same exact specs. Anything less with a keyboard will suck.

I updated mine manually since I can not receive ota updates due to the fact that I am on a custom ROM. There is a thread on how to do it in the development section. Below are the file you will need to update you PRL manually.

Thanks for posting this... always nice to see the text to go along with my analysis I do.
Now only if they would mention the dirty little tricks they do while roaming

I knew u couldn't leave us this early lol =). I been bashing the Evo 3D too as I'm not impressed with 3D & just simply being tired of all these UI's that bloats the phone down & makes getting updates seem impossible. I was either gonna keep my Epic or get the Nexus S, but the one reason I may get the new Evo is for Netflix! Also, HTC really surprised me too with the dual core processor, I really thought they were gonna throw the 2nd gen Snapdragon in it & call it a day. Now my only worry is will HTC lock down the bootloader, as they been hinting around that they're gonna start doing it going forward.

Yup, EVO 3D is the first with the 8660 processor. It will have NetFlix support. And alot of people misunderstand 3D. The phone runs in 2D, but certain applications have 3D support. Sooner or later everything will supoport 3D, but not right awhile.
The EVO 3D runs soooo smooth. I have a video of it running and it is a amazing. The new HTC Sense is awesome. I LOVE HTC Sense, I have always been an HTC fan, but the Samsung Epic impressed me too much to pass up. I had the HTC Vouge, and I made the first M2D custom rom for it, and I was the first to perfect it. The HTC Hero was my next and the Sense on that was incredible. I now see that the EVO 3D's Sense has surpassed all my expectations. I work with all the Sprint phones so I get to use everything, and by far the EVO 3D is greater then all. The LG Thrill and the Moto Atrix has nothing on it.
Trust me, the 3D is not a gimmick. This is legit and awesome! I will be getting it the day it comes out for my personal phone. HTC Sense, may be bloat to some, but it is by far the best UI out and even better then Launcher Pro IMO. I know I'll get hate mail for that, but Sense is the best UI out for Android currently.

Who's towers will we be using? This is great news for me! They must be doing this to stop people from using the PRL hack.

Verizon's is the roaming coverage we get, it's the only carrier we support roaming for. Idk who the exact company who owes the towers...but I can find out.

i dont start threads, but what the hell.
I was wondering which of the devolopers will be leaveing for the 3D (or else where). I sure some will stay, but all good things come to an end. Thought I would throw this out to be kicked around, so to say.

Im not a Dev but im getting the 3D but also I'm keeping My EVO.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Yeah, there will be some jumping ship but if you peak XDA's front page the Evo is the most popular phone on XDA. I tossed the idea around to go with the 3d but I want to see reviews once its released. I would be willing to bet that with the first 3d phone there are going to be bugs like crazy. I know they test a lot but there are bound to be some issues.

cant wait to see what happens with the 3D. im sure everyone wont bail at first but it will happen

unless i can get a 3d for cheap ill pass on it for now and wait for the galaxy s 2 to come. i think the evo has a good 6 months of dev life left in it.

Yeah from what I've seen review wise about the galaxy s2 and say...the HTC sensation, the Samsung looks a lot smoother more snappy over all unless you can't live without HTCs UI (i like it personally) then I would go for the GS2 from what I've seen. And I don't think they're going to screw it up and put a keyboard on it this time. (that may change with other versions on down the line though)

EVO is the most popular currently because the 3D is not even out yet. With that being said I'm sure devs will work on multiple phones. Myn works on a few different phones for example.

Where did you get info that the Galaxy is coming out in July? The verizon post was retracted.

Some of the dev.s for the Evo don't even have an Evo. It's not required to own the phone if you're a skilled enough developer. And we definitely have those on board with the evo.

I'm still with speedy.
Don't upgrade till next August and I'll probably be renewing my contract with them tbh.
I'll probably end up buying the evo lte or new Motorola slider off contract come december.

My next upgrade is in Jan I think but I'm not in a hury to make a change. I still love my speedy.

I must play with one of these.

Still with the Shift . Will be for quite a while, till I find something I like.

My upgrade is not until Nov. Hopefully, more phones come out then... Otherwise, in no hurry to upgrade.

Went to the Photon this week. I'm really enjoying it.
I guess the main thing for me was that I thought our ICS roms were falling just a tad short. As much as I like GB and I think roms like Supreme sense are f'in top notch, ICS addresses my functionality complaints i have about GB. As much as I appreciate Deck (pb21 was pretty awesome), Mega and the like for their work, trying to daily drive and be a power-user with the current ICS roms was rough at times, and I cant blame them for moving on to better phones to do development on instead of addressing every minor detail about shift roms. I saw the writing on the wall, I guess.
The MoPho is quite good, though pricey at 200 bucks. I will buy physical keyboard phones for as long as they keep making them. No sooner did i find out about the Photon, (which was just last week. shows you how little I come by the shift forums lately), I concluded it might be time to jump ship. Its too good a keyboarded phone to pass up since I had the upgrade offer. Otherwise, i would have waited it out.

I'm on Evo 3d, but my wife has a Shift. I frequent these forums to keep up with what's going on in the Shift world for her. Just installed Supreme Sense today for her, will see how she likes it. Her upgrade is in March, but I think she's gonna wait until summer to upgrade. Sprint always releases a new Evo around then.

Love it! It's very nice. LTE rocks. I'm getting 20 down easy. It's a superior phone in every way. My girl is using it atm

It's been a fun 2 years...

...but it's time for another adventure! I've used my upgrade and purchased a Samsung Galaxy S III.
What can I say, this phone is a BEAST! I didn't think I would like TouchWiz but I do now. Going to miss the Sense UI (port maybe, hmmm)
I've already rooted the phone and it was hella easy! Haven't tried any ROMs yet (being picky) but I will soon enough. I got CWM and I'm missing drob's "superwipe" I gotta get him to show me how I could implement it to the SG3.
I'll still be coming around here and check out the development plus you guys are the best, hands down. Cool people and easy going. I could already feel the tensions and egos at the SG3 forums and I've only posted once so far...
Maybe I'll see some of you sooner than later at the other forum. Hit me up then...

And yeah Samsung has really stepped it up a bit, and if I can save my pennies the SIII will be my next phone

They have the EVO 4G LTE at BestBuy for $99 with a new contract. But I called Sprint out of curiosity. They said they would match that, plus waive activation if I did it through their site. With Free Two Day Shipping. Just throwing it out there .

Tempting me to jump on board the Samsung bandwagon. And I've looked at the new crystal and I love it. He completely brought it in line with Holo. It's soo sexy

GN2 is Quad core. Evo LTE is not. Droid DNA is quad core but Verizon.
Don't know how I feel about HTC anymore. GN2 was really nice to play with at the store.

I am leaning toward the GN2 as well or even the GS3, but the quad core is the bigest selling point.

The EVO 4G LTE has had some major issues locking onto and maintaining LTE signals. Sprint and HTC are being lazy about fixing it properly. The Galaxy S3 is better.

The EVO 4G LTE has had some major issues locking onto and maintaining LTE signals. Sprint and HTC are being lazy about fixing it properly. The Galaxy S3 is better.

Probably an HTC issue, but we aren't 100% sure. And quite a few people have exchanged their EVO LTE's out for GS III's as a result.

This is so true bec. I hear it all the time from my wife (who owns a Evo lte) on how her signal goes from 4g-3g-1x constantly. Also she is having problems connecting to Wi-Fi.

It's a shame, because the EVO LTE is a nice phone. Played with a couple in a few different Sprint stores.

Is anyone staying with the HTC Evo Shift? Or is this phone too obsolete?

Definitely not obsolete yet, but some of the new phones just blow it out of the water... The Shift can run JB which is the newest version of Android so nobody can say its obsolete til it can't handle the latest version of Android, lack of dev support is a little different story... But there still are a few of us trying to keep you guys supplied with new ROMs. When my contract is up in June I am getting a QuadCore with LTE even if I have to go with Verizon. I have had my eye on the Optimus G. Quad Core and a 13MP camera? Yes please. The Droid DNA's specs are amazing too. I don't see HTC coming out with something to match either one in the next 6 months but I'm definitely not going with Samsuck. If there is nothing from HTC worth getting its gonna be LG or Motorola. Ok rant done.

Don't know if you've notice all the Roms that are coming out on a weekly basis for the shift, pretty obvious this phone is still going strong.
I may have moved on to a new phone but my shift is still in use for other purposes.
