How come you conclude 'everyone'? A lot of people still are using the SII.
And NO, it's not worth upgrading. A Quad Core Android? A Ferrari engine in a Nano? Lol. I want Symbian back.

Well, I ain't upgrading. S2 is good enough!!
The people who have the money and dont have anything else to spend on will buy it
As for the devs buying it they need a new challenge on the latest device
Only upgrade would be a HD screen who cares when its only a 4.8 inch screen
And then comes Quad core, I believe the dual core does enough tasks

S III rocks. More performance and more battery than S II. Why NOT to upgrade? Only if you don't have enough money, because everyone wants to upgrade. It's always good to keep supported and updated things. S II is going to be DEAD for Samsung in a few months, just like S I. I don't doubt Samsung won't update S II to Jellybean, just like they didn't update S I to ICS.

The S1 came with Eclair then to Froyo and hen Gingerbread. So there is a chancr S2 will go from GB to ICS then JB (Not Justin Beiber. Lol).. But if samsung follows the 18month rule (forgot what it was called) and JB wont be released within a few months then there is a chance we won't get an upgrade (from the OEM anyway). If pocketnow is correct and JB is just a
point release (minor update from 4.0 ics to 4.1 and not 5.0) then maybe we will have a chance.

Battery is nice, but I dont see any large reason of requiring more performance. SGS2 does everything I need done without problems. Obviously there are other upgrades and new things, but nothing to completely convince me to change to the SGS3.
I think this thread should be closed ! not related gs2

I agree, but more battery results almost the same if you have more processor and bigger screen, plus i really like the SG2 design over the SG3.
I think I'll pass the 3 and wait for the 4. Or the next Sony Xperia S, because thats a sexy phone, and the only reason why i dont change my SG2 its because it has the same or less specs.
I was expecting more from the SG3. It just dont look classy like the 2. Looks more plastic.

Of course not. Can't I give my opinion? If you disagree, you can post here why. But just telling that it was noobish, just make your answer noobish. So shut up and stop being a noob.
PS: Some guy told me that the GS I has been upgrated twice. Sorry, I forgot this fact. Maybe Samsung won't forget the GSII in a few months, but after Jellybean. I'm sure Samsung will upgrate GS II to JB, it was no major update, it's mostly the project butter And since the nexus got upgraded, Samsung has no excuses to not upgrade.
Really this is how i look at it: The S3 is the S2 with a slightly nicer screen, slightly nicer battery, slightly nicer version of android, Slightly more memory, and a few mild tweaks. Big deal! The S2 still kicks ass of any phone out there, its a workhorse that will be good for at least another year before its really outdated.
Faster processor? My processor is fast enough as it is!
More memory? I never run out of memory doing what i usually do!
Newer android version? Developers for the SGS2 are awesome! LOTS of development for the S2 and theres lots of ports from the S3 to be made, still lots of room to advance the S2 so no worries there.
The only way im going to the S3 is if i can sell my phone and buy the S3 for only $100 more. Thats my limit. If i can, why not. $100 for me for an upgrade every year or so? thats not too bad. But if it doesnt happen so what? I love my phone! it works well, its fast, it does everything i want and more!
Anyways, thats how i feel, and i know there are many otheres who feel the same way!

SGS2 id known as the android device with the most roms available, and i can tell you one thing,
if you want the sgs3 becouse of its os, SGS2 next update wont be 4.1 Jellly Bean,
it will be touchwiz ux from the sgs3, but for the performance, its a great device,
but they didnt solve neither battery or heat problems, and the device is very weak
and fragile

The s3 has double the memory...that's not a slight upgrade at all. Just wanted to point that out...I agree with the rest. Although the s3 is noticeably faster. I played with one at work today...it was impressive. At least it was a bigger upgrade than the iPhone 4 to the 4s. That's what made me get a gs2 in the first place...slow laggy 512 ram from the iPhone compared to a gig in the s2 and the s3 has 2gb and its very noticeable.

I have the international S3 with 1 gig of ram and I can already feel the difference.
Before I actually got the phone in my hands I didn't think it was any different from S2. Oh how wrong was I. The S3 is a much better device in every aspect.
I will keep my S2 anyway, it's the best looking phone ever in my opinion.

Hey guys!I'm planning on getting the Samsung Galaxy S soon. But now I'm actually stuck between this and the Nexus One.I'm aware that the processor aka the 'Hummingbird 1Ghz processor' is faster than the Snapdragon processor on the Nexus One.I'm not really going for the looks but I've realised that the SGS has a lagging problem and I believe that rooting and using the one click lag fix can fix that but I'm not planning to root my phone. Is there any other way I can fix that without rooting?Because I'm going for the SGS mostly because of the large internal memory that can keep lots of apps! While the Nexus one only has 190mb available. So please help me with this! And lastly, will it receive Android 2.3?Cos I heard that Samsung isn't very frequent in their updates.
Go for Nexus S and forget about Nexus One, the Nexus one is old news= old phone. Galaxy S is a good choose but if i where u I pick the Nexus S and you get the android rom updates allways first.
In the area I'm leaving in,Nexus S issue not available yet. So I'm stuck between this 2 choices...
would also go nexus s, but you will be limited to 8 Gbyte, no sdcardslot

We were worried about Froyo, but now we have it. It does take time, but eventually you will get it. If you want it immediately, I'd like to ask you why, since you aren't even interested in rooting it? The Nexus One is a developer-friendly phone, while the Samsung Galaxy S was designed entirely with the consumer in mind. Am sure, with the success of the SGS so far, Samsung will not let us down.
What's more? Gorilla Glass [Even Samsung's Nexus S does not have it]!
Go the SGS I'm about to flash Darkys rom it's going to be sooooo quick.

very nice comparison engine, even when i picked the Nexus S it shy in comparison to SGS
the only thing that is NOT accurate for SGS is the part that claims
microSD card (32GB included, max 32GB)
it's 16 GB or 8 GB, i've never seen a 32GB version any where
i would most definitely buy one if it existed, maybe as a Special Edition, or something other funky release, for collectors only.
unfortunately most of those Collector edition versions are only made for 900/1900/2100 market
there is a Acer liquid something model which is a special release I really realy liked, but .... no north america bands (NAM)
Read countless reviews and still can't decide.
Two things putting me off. The lack of ICS and Samsung take forever to get updates out (example my old mans galaxy s2 is still on 2.3.4 while my brothers Liquid Metal is on 2.3.6) Also the fact that quad core phones will be out next year.
My being picky? How are you guys gettin on with you' re notes?
Seeing as there is one phone in existence sold with ics on it, that is kind of a tough stance to take. Also this has nearly the fastest currently available processor, why do you think you need a quad core?
I guess you could wait till they stop making new phones, that way there is nothing better just around the corner. I heard that will be next year, so I would wait.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just get a new phone every year. until the next best thing, the note is it.

You could learn how to root & install custom ROMs, so you never have to wait for the Samsung's updates.
If you could wait for a Quad core phone then wait for it. If you can't, then the Note should do you well.

samsung arent too bad with updates, it could just be your device is locked to a region or carrier that doesnt update regularly.
my note was locked to the PLS region. it took 1-2 weeks longer than the other regions to get 2.3.6, but even so, its quite a quick update considering its a carrier branded device thats only been out for a month or so.
quad core phones have their strengths and weaknesses. the only advantage is in multitasking. you wont be able to use the raw power for a single app though aside from nvidia tegra 3 games. most PC apps are only now beginning to support multicore, i'd say android will take a fair while as well. when devs make apps, they make them so they will run on a wide variety of devices to maximise earnings. most people using android devices are still using single cores, devs will focus on maximising compatibility and improving performance on single cores first, so on a quad core phone, you may have one or two active cores with the other two doing pretty much nothing.
by the time the software catches up, you'd be stuck with a 40nm tegra3 that would burn your hands when a newer 28nm or 20nm cpu will be available and would be much faster and run much cooler.
i'd say just get a note now, enjoy the snappy performance of the apps samsung have optimised for dual core and the gpu and have fun knowing that you'll be using all you paid for in the phone rather than only getting half your money's worth with a quad.
As I know wildfires will not come out next year. There are coming some bastards 2x2 cores 2 at 1.5-1.8 and 2 low MHz cores so the battery live is increased when you don't need high usage of the cores. So don't think there will be much difference from the 2cores that are in the market atm. Maybe a better you on them will do the trick as now ics will provide hw acceleration.
Just my thoughts about that.

After owning the galaxy there's no question in my mind most of us will remain with Samsung and android especially people who use custom Roms. But what's next after having this amazing phone?
It has been a year now since I've had mine, and obviously its soon time to upgrade.
For me I think ill skip the galaxy Note... I don't think its worth the upgrade just yet.
CES is just round the corner, and something else after that I think? I'm holding out to see whether Samsung's planning an SIII for this half of the year. We've already seen a supposed leaked shot taken from a device with the product code i9500 from inside a Samsung office.... It seems fairly probable that we'll see something by February as we have for the last 2 years. What are other peoples thoughts?
Personally, I am really disappointed with Samsung leaving 10 million plus SGS owners off the ICS train (especially because of their touchwiz that sucks), and I wanna show it to them by not buying their products. I'm still waiting for a stable custom ics sgs rom. I would have eyed the galaxy nexus, but it kind of bothers me that it's samsung. but it does not have the touchwiz and will get updates fast.
I'm quite fed up with the so called android fragmentation, but don't want to go the apple way. I want more nexus-like products with clean android and fast updates. Guess I'm screwed...

After one year with my SGS I'm still totally satisfied with it. I can read ebooks, play games or watch movies without any problems. Currently I don't need more memory, higer resolution screen or multicore processor. But perhaps when SGS III hits the market and devs/modders will start playing with it, I'll probably buy it.

To OP: Wait for the SIII. The Note is just ridiculously oversized for a phone. I have seen people talking on it, and it looks stupid. You might as well walk around with a laptop stuck to your face. That way, at least no one can tell who you are.
I'm waiting. For the moment i'm satisfied with my Galaxy S. No need (for me) to buy a new one. And there will be new Roms for it,too.
The Galaxy note isn't a Smartphone - it's a very small tablet. For a smartphone it's too big, and for a tablet too small. Odd product.
SGS3. Nothing else.

I think I'm lucky in that my contract ends in November and when I sign up for a new one (not sure with whom yet), I will get a new phone. If the S3 comes out in the 1st half of 1012, by November, it will be less expensive and I can get it cheaper.
I am super happy with my SGS and for what I use my phone for, I don't really need a new one, but I guess for 4G or LTE it's worth it, and it will be cheap since I will get it on a contract.

Well,technically speaking,my SGS2 is already better so...
But yeah, that's the point. They might as well make it with a Snapdragon.Although,if it's Qualcomm's S3 and not the S4 processor,it'll be more like the SGS2- instead of + but anyway.
I hope it'll come with the same chipset as the "newer" version of the g nexus. :3
why stupid?
I thought I had to say somethiong about the comments here. first of all I use the sg2+ since a week now. and yes it's really plu. I have a sgs2 and I really see the difference, when it comes to multitasking and web browsing. games runs better and when i wasn't able to run some powerfull games on sgs2, it runs perfect on the "plus" version.. Apart from that, I actually won't say it's a stupid thyought from samsung, a lot of people (like me) are fed up with the size of the screen on new phone like the sgs3 and they rather buy a smaller cell phone, the problem is that it's difficult to find a 4'3 screen with good specs nowaday. I guess that's where the sgs2+ comes in the game, it gives you a up to date phone specs.and a normal screen size. I will pêrsonnaly keep my regular sgs2 because of rom dev, since i think the sgs2+ will not be mod so much. but you can't say it's stupid to make this product, it's niche, but it has its place on the market. And don't forget something, it sells new for 300 euros. And i won't even bother on the materials they use cause it's like ten times better than the sgs3 which look and feel like a cheap plastic phone

Thanks a lot

-Yes the voltage should be fine they have the same batteries.I was wondering about other things maybe not the same on the body.
I ask because I dont think its correct what the seller said about a carholder product designed for the S2:
"Is this compatible with the Samsung galaxy s2 plus?

The mount is only designed for the Samsung Galaxy S2 not the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus."

Would upgrading my i9000 to the newest nexus be worth it, or should I wait for the galaxy s 3 or beam or go for galaxy s 2???

Personally i am waiting for s3 with all the great ics roms at the moment my galaxy s i9000 feels like new so may as well wait...

yeah that's a bit how I feel. I have everything in i9000 and the newest phones are just souped up versions from what I can tell.
The sgs 3 and/or beam seem a bit different from what I have seen, so I guess im not wrong to want to wait.
Cheers

I have thoroughly enjoyed the extensive life of my i9000, having flashed an unimaginable amount of ROM and kernel setups, tweaking it in every way I could figure out how to. Now that the i9000 ICS ROMs have reached a state usable as a daily phone, I must admit that it feels like I have a new phone again. ICS is a wonderful improvement.
That being said, a good friend of mine recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus. Actually, he purchased it before I had flashed ICS onto my phone. I thought the phone was a definite improvement over my i9000, but to be honest, it was just ICS. Our phones can play the same games, do the same things, and our pretty much equal. Sure, his dual-core processor gives him a bit more speed doing things like installing apps and such, but my i9000 is unbelievably responsive after upgrading to ICS. Before it, I was going to upgrade. Now that I'm using ICS, I have absolutely zero reason to upgrade. None at all. My phone works just as well as a new one.
Now if I had never discovered XDA and was still using the stock Gingerbread firmware, I would definitely be buying a new phone. Thank god for our wonderful devs!
Basically, the best phones for this year would be the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X. The Galaxy Nexus is similar to the Nexus S in the sense that is was released during the transition of core numbers, and hence would have rather inferior hardware by the second half of 2012. I was thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus initially, but now I've decided to wait for the S3.
If you're upgrading from an I9000, I strongly urge you to wait for the SGS3. HTC locks down their devices and you will not have a good time flashing ROMs when they do
Go for it!
Recently made the switch from 19000 to Galaxy Nexus myself, got it on a 12 month plan. The brilliant thing about it is how easy it was to unlock the bootloader, root it and install a custom rom. So if you are into tweaking your phone, go for the Nexus as its brilliant. Updating is also much quicker compared to I9000 and S2, plus no touchwiz.
GPU in the Nexus is unimpressive, same as the SGS just clocked faster.
That's a big reason why I'm waiting for the S3. Or the next Nexus, given how slick ICSSGS is I think it breathed another year of life into this unit.
i like the samsung beam looks different to all other phones even with that projector on it good for work and home when watching movies lol
Thanks for all the replies everyone, yeah I think I'll wait.
The beam looks very nice indeed, but from the little we do know, so does the s3.
