Great news guys, the currently most updated news have state that Samsung Developer is working on Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 colour rendering/banding/black clipping issue. Good job Samsung :good:

Good News!!
yes, this indeed is a good news for us .
I think its a codec issue. I took one of the last movies that I watched via HDMI from the GSN to a sony bravia 42" wide-screen telly and then compared that to playing the same movie file direct to the bravia via usb. the difference is amazing. So I dont think its so much the screen, but more likley to be the codecs on the SGN.
Then why do some notes have the black crush and banding really bad, and some have it really mild?
My first note was a bad one which i returned, i waited a month and bough another and this one is a lot better.
I think it`s an hardware problem, the screen or the display chips i dont know, but if two notes are running identical software, and one is bad and the other is not, what else can it be.
John.
i hope they prepare a fix for this and the emmc bug soon..
good news. edit: it just shows that maybe if the community had gone done this route 6 months ago we MAY have got an outcome similar to this then, rather than waiting on a 3rd party developer to come up if a fix and nagging them all the way.
Oh and good job to Janice for taking the initiative to start that thread on Samsung Dev
Don't be optimistic about what Samsung says....... for how long have they promised to work on the eMMC bug but have gone silence since then? They will just continue to focus on their Latest Flagship SGS3 and how to sell 10 million copies by July and after that how to get SGN2 on the way. They will not do anything about this problem..... maybe we should report this SH*T to media like ENDGADGET,GSMARENA etc etc

Get your facts right, they never promised to work on the Emmc bug...
I think the issue is more of a mis-color calibration part on the phones. Some have less mis color calibration than others.
Samsung's head QA supervisors should be fired a long time ago with this issue. Releasing a product that is never quite fully baked at all.

As I said, they never promised anything, just some Samsung developers trying to help the community.
Do you have any idea how many ppl work at Samsung ?
Do you have any idea at which level these contacts are ?
Have you seen ANY official announcement from samsung on this issue ??
I didn't say they are not doing anything, I said they never promised anything.
So as I said to the other member, get your facts right, the same applies to you
Be either someone from Samsung on from these forums, just make an app that allow us to control Gamma curve on this device, I can manage the situation with that.
I did tests with gammatest.png image and it looks different displayed on the Gallery and on QuickView.
But we need some way to manually adjust the brightness level, to make lower RGB values darker. I would like to see RGB 1,1,1 pretty much black, and RGB 5,5,5 different from 10,10,10. Right now any brightness level between 1 and 20 is rendered with pretty much the same brightness, and 0 is pure black.
This gives dark scenes a very bad aspect, with a big gray and a big black area instead of a gradient.

Well, I cant fight that one. The symptoms appear as a potential codec issue, but, your own observation points in the other direction. It's what I call another 'Samsung sods muddle'.
Allegedly : Sam*ung know there is a problem with the screen, but they don't want a recall, so every time somebody rings Sa*sung support they get told this is the first they have heard about it, also people were reporting that negative posts on review website were deleted or edited, is there a cover up?
I think Sam*ung is working on the problem behind the scenes, and new stock is a lot better at least in my case, but still not perfect.
Though i know HT*C has a problem with the one x , I have one with a yellow blob on the screen, and So*y xperias has a problem with the screen color of there new mobile.
So it`s not just Sa*sung having problems.
I don't want Sams*ng to release a firmware fix, as not all note`s are bad and i don't want my note with a good screen getting worse.
The screens need to be calibrated individually, but this is going to require the phone being returned to a service center, as a hardware calibrator will be needed, but i doubt Sa*ung will do this.
I think a app similar to the "screen adjuster" one, but a improved version that does not require root, and has an example image you have to match with a slider like you do with a lcd display calibrator.
My advice is if you have a note with black clipping or banding and you cannot live with it, get it replaced, I have read that it took one note owner 5 exchanges before he got a good one.

it seems like samsung galaxy nexus is also having the black clipping issue, some user have claim that it have been solved by using the lean kernel (colour calibration) "wonder is there any something like this for galaxy note ??? "
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/465326-horrible-blue-aliasing-artifacts-black-areas-during-video-playback.html
I have notest that, when I am taking a photo with the camera software, in dark conditions, I don't see the black clipping effect. I take the photo... then open it in Gallary and... the clipping appears there. So is something in the software.
This is really bugging me.
I just did another round with Samsung regarding this. They are terrible. I told them that I exchanged my device and the new one still has the problem, now they want me to send the brand new one for repair which will take up.to 2 weeks. The first rep I spoke to at technical support acknowkedged the problem and said it was normal, at which point I linked her to a youtube vid of a dude who finally got them to replace his Note with on manufactured recently, she was like Oh, and forwarded ny call to customer services, who blatently lied and said that they were not aware of the issue, so I linked her to samsungs own developer forum where one of the devs have acknowledged the problem and said that they are working on it, only for her to say that it was a 3rd party website and if they knew about it, there would have been an official announcement, I advised her that it was not a 3rd party, and that it was samsungmobile.com but she was having none of it and wanted me to send for repair. I told her to log the complaint and stick it. I already went 4 days without a phone when they advised me to exchange fir a new one (which has the same issue) Now they want me to go without a phone for 2 weeks only to get it back with the same issue again. Fing LAME!

There, fixed it for ya
I voted Yes btw... mine has it too.
My phone's camera is fine.
Thanx!
But, considering the fact that DHD owners that join XDA do it for unbranding, upgrading, rooting, etc, and do not come here ONLY for the camera problem, I believe that, if all of them vote (even those that do not have the problem), we will get a good percentage sample.
It is something like the exit-poles while voting . Use a small sample from the crowd. It usually gives good results, close to reality.

Haha, I know... I was only joking!
I think it's a good idea too. Maybe once enough people have voted we can send the results to HTC repair center
Yeah, the results could be a good "attachment" with the DHD for service
Mine is fine. No problems here.
Yes mine does,
Mine is currently with HTC at the moment, in for it's second repair in 4 weeks. The first repair was for the original blur on the left but when I got the phone back from them last Friday, the blur was still present and after a few hours of use - the camera started producing really fuzzy and bad photos and so I rang HTC up over the weekend and they re-booked the phone in for another repair. Weather the blur problem and this new fuzzy photo problem are related I don't know.
Liam
Camera works fine here.
Works fine for me. Using leeroid.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
everythings pretty fine since day 1
@ stock btw.

Well my point of view is that a lot of people are completly unable to make the difference between blurred and non blurred photos. Believe me, a lot of people don't care about that because that doesnt look like a problem for them. It's like sounds and colors, humans don't react the same way.
That reminds me, just look in the thread I started, the two first pictures on the beach, the blur thing is higly noticeable on the left. But some people came and said they couldn't see anything wrong. That's the way humans work. We're all different.
Also, this problem doesn't occur in low light condition, because low light condition make noisy pictures, and the blur is nearly impossible to determine in that case. Even outside in good light condition, if you shoot a close subject, the blur thing may not apear. It really shows in good light condition when you shoot things like landscapes, buildings or trees.
Many people will come here and vote "no problem" because they just don't simply have the apropriate pictures. If they vote after indoor pictures, it will not help and the vote doesn't mean anything.
Mine is faulty, and two friends of mine got faulty devices too. There were quite a good bunch of report about this issue on the forum. We can't say for sure that a lot of DHD are concerned, but well, who can seriously say the contrary ?? (except the die hard HTC fans ... hehe I know there are some here and there ..)
Anyway, I think there's enough to say that there is a little quality control problem at HTC

So... which group is right?
Luthor_70 is right. For instance, I rarely use the phone camera, and it took me 8-9 days after purchase, and motive from XDA-DEVS to test the camera and spot the problem (make the test with outdoor pic and good light cond.).
Junta_mpb, my friend, the point is not which DHD user doesnt care about the problem and who does. The point is that we have spent a good amount of money, and we need a 100% working product. It is the customers right to have in his hands exactly what he paid for.
IMHO, no one should neglect defects like these.

My point is to address the insinuation that a participating group is providing false information. Saying that if one phone has a camera problem and concluding that those who say otherwise just don’t care to notice or lying because of a blind love affair with HTC is not logic I would subscribe to. I could be wrong with jumping to that conclusion, but thats why I posted my question.
I agree that we paid good money for something that we would like to be perfect. I am not contesting that. There are phones with defects. The topic, however, is about the camera and I think this should be isolated.
I checked my images again, indoor, outdoor, with trees and one with a 5-legged cow. They are fine and I dont think its because I'm just inclined to say so.
Junta, you have a point here, but, as in all votes and researches, the factor of "error" always exists. You cannot be absolute about anything in this life. I am just trying to track down an approximation of the problem, and nothing else.
What I was trying to say is that, if you purchase a phone for, lets say, 200 euro, you cannot expect the quality of a phone that costs 600 euro (like DHD). Yes, the possibility of faulty devices is always there (only God can make something perfect). But, according to this vote (up to now), approximately 1 out of 3 has it. I personally know 2 more people (friends) with the same problem. Only my father's DHD is OK
And it could still be OK, although the size of the problem, IF HTC accepted that! They keep neglecting us, and fooling around with us. My phone is 10 days at service now, and when I called them they said that they still have no further info about the problem. For crying out loud, HTC has my phone more days in their hands than me! And according to previous experience, maybe a second visit will be required! This is the insane part.
Oh! I almost forgot! Please send me the picture with the 5 legged cow!

(Sorry for my bad English).
Personally, I had 3 HD Desire HD and 2 had the perfect camera, but the strange thing is that the cameras are not only bad ones sold with the first phones, but also the latest build are defective, so it's a matter of luck in my opinion...
However, I propose to upload a photo of all those who vote, so we really understand the situation...
I start:

Hi.
I'm new to forums, so hello. I hope I won't make you nervous with my thread .
So, I have doubts on buying an SGS2. At first I was "wow'ed", then I read all reviews and watched all videos and I was "wow'ed" even more. But after reading forums I got totally disappointed, beacause SGS2 seems deeply flawed.
I know there are single threads for each problem, but getting through tens or hundreds of "me too" posts is a bit troubling, so I'd like to gather or problems, which are happening on all or at least many SGS2, on one list and ask if they got repaired or is there any view on them being repaired. Also I'd like to ask SGS2 users, who suffer from those problems, if they are really troubling and if they would buy SGS2 knowing 'bout them.
So, the list is:
- yellow tinting (smudge-stain) - I've read opinions that it's just glue, AFAIR I've read opinion that it got off after some usage time. Some claim that it is repaired in newer software, however I guess its hardware issue and I don't have any idea how such issue can be repaired via software. Is it very common, or just some phones are flawed?
- not-fluent gradients - so, I know it's software-related, and its due using 16-bits and bad dithering/high contrast on SGS2 and happens not only on SGS2, but its much more visible on SGS2 display. The question is: are there any official upgrades or custom roms that address that issue? If not, are such planned?
- pink spot on photos - common for many many phones, but we know it can be greatly corrected by software update. Are there any good software upgrades / custom photo apps to address this issue?
- darker left side of screen - just read about it recently... is it common? can it be addressed by software/firmware upgrade?
- random power offs - I've heard that many users complain about their phones going off randomly. Some said it's just matter of dust or dirt... Is there anyone who's phone is power-offing randomly and don't know why?
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
I know there are more problems, but they are not that common and can be solved by "return to a shop" method . So I don't list them here.
Once again - sorry for duplicating many posts. I hope that this thread will be useful for other people, who have doubts on buying SGS2 because of those problems.
You know. I agree on paying much for phone, but I demand flawless work. And I rage over every little issue when I expect something to be near-perfect... So... If you could help me to decide whether I want SGS2 or I don't, I'd be glad and thankfull (otherwise, just close/delete the thread ).
Cheers.

User who claim to have it will say every phone has it . Not on my phone and not on many others .

You would have to ask Samsung that question . Again its something i dont notice .

No

Who are these many users out of six million some have got to have a reboot especially with some of the numptys who install roms without reading the instructions .
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
Only been out three months so who can tell long term .
Very hot never on my phone but i dont play games .

have had sgs2 for 2 months now have not faced a single problem
- Yellow tint is haaardly noticeable. You really have to be careful on a gray screen with low brightness to eventually notice it. It's not a problem at all.
- Pink spot ? I never had this issue, and I still haven't. But as stated, it's fixed in a software update, if needed.
- I haven't noticed any darker side (might be related to the yellow tint, so same reason)
- Random power offs: Haven't got any shutdown or reboot, even with custom ROMs.
- About heat problem, I got it sometimes a bit hot, but nothing preventing me from using it, or holding it.
So definately issues are not a big deal compared to the wonderfulness this phone is.

Really ? so my SG2 is just one of the fews that has yellow tint, pink spot, leaked light on home button, random high temperature issues ? so should i demand samsung to replace my SG2 ?
So I must be one of the 30 unhappy XDA people who post their problems, right?
Yes I have pink spot and the phone sometimes gets really hot, that's the two pissues I have but they don"t really bother as much as THE VOLUME of the in ear speaker and headphone volume output is very very low compare to any other phone I own (owned).
I have 4 friends who have SGS 2 and all of them complain about somehow low volume or muted sound, so I am sure it's not just me. (please don't post about using volume + or re setting the values by Samsung secret codes - tried all that, it doesn't work)
So if Samsung adress this issue with their next update I will be very happy.

Guys, thanks for posts, but lets stick to original form, which is: (future) fixes for problems and if they are a big deal for ppl who has them. These are all common problems (some are typical of all SGS2s) so there is no use in just saying that you have them or arguing on how common they are. I don't read XDA only, also other (not-english-language) forums, so these are based not only on XDA (tbh, they are based mainly on other sources).
Please, I wouldn't like this turn into flamewar.

Maybe get one of these if you don't mind spending a bit of extra cash.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/FiiO-E5-Headphone-Amplifier_Portable-Audio_review
Yellow Tint Issue:
Its there on a lot of phones, A lot of people say this is a non issue because they cant see it on their phones ( or they have visual impairment ), they also fail to understand that the issue affects each phone very differently, with my personal experience of 30+ phones only 6 (AFAIK) had extremely minimal yellow tint.
My phone has a yellow tint, after knowing the 2.3.4 removes the tint I've stopped the replacement request already as it is pointless. It maybe a non issue to you or to the other 5,999,999 buyers but its there.
Gradient issue:
Some say its a rendering limitation on the GPU it self, others say it can be corrected at a kernel level by putting the render mode to 24bit.
Pink spots:
Software issue, I dont think samsung has any intentions to fix this, since this is a common norm with modern day cameras on mobile phones, this is a non issue for me.
Darker left side of the screen:
A lot of phones or maybe even all phones suffer from this issue from 0 to 20% brightness, at 30% it even outs a tiny bit, at 50% its non existent anymore.. My Galaxy S never had this issue even at 0% brightness, a non issue to me.
Random Power offs:
Never experienced it actually but I know a friend who had this issue got this unit replaced.
High temperature:
Different phones give off different heat profiles, I've been playing a lot of HD games on my phone and Its barely even warmer than playing Angry birds, on my friend's phone his heats up pretty good but not to the point that its alarming.
Despite all of these issues, I still love the phone. What bothers me the most is the screen issue though, none of these were on the Galaxy S and with the Galaxy S2 the general public has accepted these issue to be normal ( which baffles me ). Just dont let the people who wanna run statistics in your face tell you different.

Theres no fix yet and I really doubt samsung will which such a small camera issue, its practically not there if you dont look for it.
If you wanna know about this then take a picture of a white sheet of paper under automatic white balance you should be able to see it even on the viewfinder mode.

I honestly believe that there are more than 30 ppl in XDA having issues with the phone that includes random shut-off, overheating, camera issues, screen issues and battery life issues. But I guess those people who got unlucky with their phones are people who dont know how to use it right since the other 6M buyers didnt have issues at all. Issues are always a minority else the phone would never even hit mass production.. Even the GPS issues on the Galaxy S which was covered by techsites, they were a minority but that doesnt mean their issues are invalid/unrealistic/made up.
Stop *****ing around. It's a nice phone, if you like it buy it.

If he's thinking about getting a phone of this caliber, he chose it because of other features, which are far more significant then a "darker left side". I don't blame the OP, I read a LOT before buying it, because it's an expensive phone; but what's the point of asking all these? Some people have it, and they complained, some don't, they didn't... so at most you will get some random answers depending on your luck and which people reply to your thread. If I'd say yes my phone has a yellowish tint, would he not buy it anymore? Is this so decisive?
There are ****loads of threads which already discussed it; reading them all is lots of work, but asking this has the same results as you would open a thread like that and read 10 posts randomly, you just take a small sample and reassure yourself that it's a good phone, or the opposite.
Okay OP, let me tell you, this phone is the BEST you will ever get. I don't have any of the problems you said, expect the pink spot, which I never noticed until someone pointed it out. I know other people who have it and they don't have the problems either. Take my words, go and buy it now, it's awesome. Weee.
You sound like your the one *****ing
You know this thread wasn't meant to be about existance of flaws (which exist) but primarly about if there is a fix for them or if the fix is coming. Maybe I stated it wrong in original post (now as I read it, maybe that is the case).
EDIT: I am getting SGS2 later this week or the next week for 99%. I'll just check at the store if the yellow thing isn't a dealbreaker. If no, I'll get it. Of course any feedback on main topic (which is (upcoming) fixes) is welcome!
Cofalik, any normal person researching the SGS2 will get scared after reading the threads here. I've got the pink circle and yellow tinting, but the problems can be fixed/improved with software. Besides, they are difficult to detect (when not specifically looking for them) and only show up in certain conditions. I never had any heating problems or random reboots.
The phone is fanstastic. I think you're gonna love it.
However, if you don't, please blame someone else.
Ah, Pandora has opened another box!
The Samsung Galaxy S III
(And its potential problems)
So given the history of Samsung phones, since the release of their Galaxy S + the many variations thereof, we can expect a whole bunch of things to go wrong (very wrong) with this new device. Samsung has not really proved any competency in neither quality control (QC) nor customer service (CS). In fact they have been rather disastrous in both these regards. So where does it leave us? I leaves us with a very high probability that many...many things could go bad in their new "flag-ship". (100 year Titanic anniversary?)
So I bet a beer that at least two of the following things will be broken or problematic:
8MP Camera will suffer from "pink-spot syndrome" and we will not get any camera-firmware updates that is of any improvement. Why? Because Samsung doesn't know who produces their cameras and "never knows what comes in the box". So they will put the blame on their own subsidiary company who makes (cheap copies) of the Sony camera-sensors (CMOS) and try to pass them off as their own Samsung. If indeed the camera-sensor is good they will blame Fujitsu (who will probably provide the camera processing module.)
.
Night time photography will suck, because flash is poorly designed in combination with camera, and without flash the video-mode will just not cut it in low-light areas. Auto-focus problems!
.
You will want to protect your new phone with a protective housing, since it will be neither water-proofed, nor shock protected by design. Then you will find your friends not wanting to call you because the phones advanced noise-cancellation (NC) circuitry has not been properly tuned to accommodate for a protective housing, essentially putting the circuitry in "tilt" mode, causing a wide variety of problems extending from unbelievably annoying echos for the person who calls you, or for you, or too low volume, or just generally bad sound for any or both sides of the conversation. (Who said that you actually wanna talk on your phone?). The list can go on...
.
Weird unevenly colored areas (yellow tint) on your screen.
.
Extremely poor battery life. 4 CPU cores and only god know how many other internal application processors (modem, graphics, MHL, NFC, PMIC) constantly sitting on edge trying wake up as soon as it "hears" or "sees" something, will drain battery whether Sam like it or not.
.
Poor GPS reception, because Samsung QC technicians only tried it from their perfect office, so didn't bother to tune the GPS configuration files to make them fix fast in any geographical location.
.
Will easily grease, scratch or crack screen, since not using hardened Gorilla Glass nor oleo-phobic treatment.
.
Will automatically shut-down in humid, hot (or cold) climates.
.
Will have a very buggy baseband (radio) firmware, if it is based on a new and widely-untested chip like the Intel XG-716. Causing dropped calls, poor reception and/or other data-problems. In worst case to being able to properly receive or send SMS.
.
Will still have a stock SMS sending limit of only 10 multiple-SMS's.
.
Will be very difficult to root. Was rooted by Chainfire before entering market!
.
Will not provide for unbrickable mod or booting OS from external source.
.
Will keep all internal chips and documentation secret so that none other than some corrupt Samsung Service/Company representative can repair your phone. All chips are available in the Service Manual.
.
Have poor Wifi connection, because of interfering RF circuitry that is too complicated, even for Samsung technicians to handle.
.
When having any problem at all, you will be offered to send your phone for service that may take up to 2 months for returning back in your hands. (Usually with no improvement.) The true Samsung Take-it-or-leave-it CS policy. "It's your own fault, since you didn't have to buy this phone."
.
Causing the Linux Kernel developer society a nightmare, by introducing new and poorly written hardware drivers, without providing proper specifications (because of 13), often written by inexperienced programmers.
Well that pretty much sums it up. Did I forget something? I'm sure I did, any time Samsung releases something amazing, there will be problems we cannot imagine.
Oh, I think I forgot to say that I like (some) Samsung devices...because I don't have a choice, now that not even my old Nokia is Nokia anymore.
So what can you do, to protect yourself?
BEFORE BUYING, DO THIS:
Have your shop representative put a protective cover on your phone. Then have a friend that you can call and who can call you in various noisy and silent situations.
Take pictures in many different and low-light conditions. (All cameras work great in bright conditions, but many suck in low-light without flash.) Try the low-light focus on near and far objects. Does it focus easily?
Take some pictures of a "natural" and evenly white or bright gray wall. Check pictures for "pink-spot".
Take some photos with flash and check the resulting colors.
AFTER BUYING, DO THIS:
Take many, many high-resolution pictures of the inside of your phone, and post them somewhere here on XDA, so that we can help you when your phone eventually goes dead or "funny"!
Here's Supercurio's internal summary:

Well, SGS2 will have gorilla glass 2
If i wanted a decent picture I would use a proper camera as phone cameras in general are crap?
So you bet that a camera in a phone will be bad in low light? We have a real Sherlock here!
I also bet that the camera's picture quality will not be as good as my Nikon 1's picture quality. PM me for the shipping address where you can ship the beers.
In serious terms, I think there were not any serious problems with SGS2? SGS1 had problems with GPS and crappy file system. I think my Transformer Prime has worse problem after the latest update. Web browser gets stuck at loading web sites and then comes the "Browser has stopped" dialog, and you can continue normally when the "Wait" button is clicked. It is really annoying.
lol. Garbage.
dude , u wan nice picture and high mp , get a nikon D4... lol
why xda exist ? bcuz of dev... why ppl start dev roms ? trying to make it even better and more customization... what we get from custom rom ? tonnes of it.. battery life... tweaks and etc... what do u expect from a phone ? can your current phone fly ? can it cook for u ? lol...get a life dude.. is just a phone , dont buy if u dont like it...or shall i say , dont use any smartphone.. ur expectation is too high , or maybe u should get 1 50years later...

I have both phones and the only true success has been the original GT-I9100, never had any problem and still take great pictures. The i9100, however, is a real piece of crap. It should never have left the production line! Camera sucks in all aspects apart from bright sunny day. And the echo problem is still annoying the hell out of everyone. SEC never fixed either of these issues. In fact they still pretend they don't exist. I didn't bother to link to any of the hundreds of threads here on XDA about these problems.

Ha! We will see about that, but I certainly hope so.
This is interesting because I'm just making some wild speculations based historical facts. And guess, what!? I really hope I'm wrong on all points.
Well thank goodness for the thousands of early adopter beta testers. There's No Way, Samsung could beta test a phone with that many people using it before release . Of course there will be issues that's what firmware updates correct .....or not.
The device is only as good is one person's expectations of it.
The more OCD you are, the more problems you will find

From supercurio's analysis the GS3 seems to have the best of GS2+GNex+GS1, with also a very cool audio chip...
We just need to test it directly and see

Man.. the galaxy sII surpasses dozens of other phones with a plethora of advantages. This is the first time I've heard that phone be described as a piece of crap.. that's just silly. Also- not sure why the OP started a thread bashing a phone that we don't even have yet and hoping he's wrong about it all. Weird.
*for the record* I don't have the issues the Op complains about, nor do my friends NOT want to call me. Everything is gravy over here.. sounds like personal problems.

You shouldn't get any phone. You expect too much. All phones will have problems, regardless.
I was considering buying the Galaxy Note, but after I read the Note subforum carefully, I discovered few (major) issues with the device, which made me reconsider my choice.
Now I have the same situation with Galaxy S3. Before I purchase it, I want to know about all the potential problems that are known for this device. Maybe it has bad battary performance, maybe it has bad sound quality, maybe... ?
Please shortly list all the common problems (if any) that happen to be associated with this device.
not just building it up, but i can not say that i have noticed any big flaws with this device.
i have the Note right now as well, and i would pick the S3 hands down over my note, its faster, the screen is better, the battery is great compared to what i was getting on my Note and Skyrocket. and now with Jelly Bean/cm10 here this thing flys.
Gps is decent, Sound is much better than any other phone that i have had, and thats without Supercurio's Voodoo sound which should be dropped here soon.
Its a S3 forum, so yes you will get alot of people saying exactly what i am saying....its a great device. and if you HAVE to choose between the Note and S3 the S3 is a no brainer....
now the Note2 thats a different story when it drops......

I had a lot of issues and ended up having 4 replacement handsets and have just got a full refund today. Issues I experienced were; large gaps between the screen and bezel which allowed dust to settle on the edges of the screen, pink blotch issues when using the front camera, volume button and home button that stuck in when pressed, and all AMOLED screens suffer from ink marks on a black screen to varying degrees.
I think the initial production batches have suffered from poor build quality and I do think I will purchase the phone again in a month or so when the factories won't be over stretched to cope with demand. The pebble blue version which I had seems to suffer from a lot of issues which I put down to rushed production.
Good luck

I agree with everything you've said, except for the GPS part.
I don't find it decent, it's exceptional imho.
It seems to be able to get a solid signal within 5 seconds on a cold start.
It uses both GPS and Glonass together, which explains why it's so fast, but it's still impressive to see.
But back on the subject, I've always chosen devices I was pretty sure I'd be happy with (I'm doing lots of research and reading a lot of reviews on them before buying), but it's the first time that I really don't have any complaints at all (besides minor problems with easy fixes/tweaks, but the phone is really stable and fast out of the box).
Even the only thing I thought I'd be disappointed about, coming from an HTC HD2 (the build quality and design), I was pleasantly surprised about the build quality, and I love the look of the phone, even if it's plastic.
Of course that's only my opinion, but I don't regret buying it one bit
These threads are a common problem in the S3 General section....if you look down I'm pretty sure you'll find threads already created, discussing the problems you've just mentioned

I have been using Note for last 5 months . I bought it from Ebay . Till now I didn't face any problems with the device.
It depends on the device you get, some device may have manufacture defects and that's rare.
Worst case if you get such device you can get it replaced as you have warranty.
So stop thinking about odds and go for the device you love
The GS3 has had an unusually bug-free (relative to most other smartphone releases) launch.
Hardware Problems:
Crackling in audio output when phone display is off (phone is in idle mode). Can be fixed in software by setting sleep mode to Idle Only from Idle + LPA.
Some screens are faulty and have pink areas
Some cameras are faulty and cause pink blotches in images
Software problems:
Cell standby battery usage is misreported and over-inflated
Creating an SMS longer than 3 messages converts it into an MMS. No way to disable this unless modding.
Email client (not gmail) mail body field text selection is bugged. Text gets deleted randomly when moving the text selection handles.
Music player sometimes plays the wrong song (one from a previous playlist) when you click on a song.
Music player also has some problems with organising songs into albums, creating duplicate albums with the same name.
The quick scroll alphabet column (in contacts and music lists) has a delay when sliding finger on it for the first time after app load
That's all I can think of right now.

I'd say the marble white version was relatively bug-free as a launch handset but the pebble blue version probably has just as many launch defects as any other handset. For example, I ended up going through four faulty pebble blue handsets until finally giving up and getting my money back.
Physical home button - hard to reach, hard to press, looks stupid, feels stupid
Wake up lag - Push the power button and wait 1.500 ms for the screen to appear
Only 1 GB RAM - Not enough for a top phone in 2012... This is not 2011 anymore, Samsung!
Nothing else.. Everything else is top class..
Yea that lag is sooooooooo long I fall asleep! And I have to get a long stick to push that dam home button! And the battery it last way to long! Why can't it just die after 14hours like the rest? If you didn't know I was being sarcastic!

I think you are just too picky about the phone being built perfect it's not going to happen for any phone. The chances of getting a perfectly built phone with no defects at all is lower than getting some minor defect such as "the gap being too big between the bezel and letting in dust" I can't believe they even let you return it for that reason. Good luck on your quest of finding the perfect phone.

My returns were all due to pink blotch issues with the front camera which is unacceptable. I've never had a phone that takes pictures with a pink blotch. In addition to that pink blotch two of my devices also had large gaps. Bits of dust actually got stuck under the screen which, again, is unacceptable for a £500 phone. Samsung must ensure the bezel and screen are correctly sealed so that dust does not build up in inaccessible areas. I've also never had a phone where I could see black dots and whirls on the screen when viewing YouTube videos at night. I'd rather have blacks that are not so deep but are consistent in colour.
Thing is, general build quality of phones is going down whilst prices are going up. It's inevitable.
Love the phone, not noticed any bugs or faults at all. No crackling when playing back audio via headphones

Hi guys, before i start I absolutely love my note. At first I thought the screen was too big, but now I could never go smaller. (now I know how women feel )
However, my biggest complaint is the black clipping/crush, which seems to affect people differently according to their individual note.
This evening I was reminiscing the music I listened too in my youth. One of the videos to a song I love nearly made me throw my note out the window, because of the black clipping. This video is the WORST case of black clipping I've seen during my ownership.
Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svJvT6ruolA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I am stuck with my note until July at the earliest, when I can upgrade. I do not have the luxury of buying the latest handset as soon as it is released, therefore I will have owned my note for 18 months. I am not sure whether I will buy another Samsung device again. Yes they slack on releasing sources, but for me if they cannot get the basics of a good quality screen right on a high end device, they may as well give up now.
Up until my note, my previous 2 devices were HTC. The Desire and Sensation. Their screens were SLCD, and suffered no clipping. I am aware the cause of clipping is an OLED problem and i can see no power saving or display quality reason for an OLED display. Yes I've looked into ppi but seriously there is little difference.
Every android handset I've owned will only give a maximum of around 4 hours screen on time, regardless of what you do with it or settings you disable (pointless in my opinion, its a SMART phone)
I feel its time Samsung ditched OLED displays before they lose customers. I know s3 owners who changed from iPhone to android (hooray!) but because of the clipping there changing back asap. I keep telling them its a Samsung issue but they don't care. First Impressions count for a lot.
Anyway rant over, just wondered how other SGN users felt about this and how its shaped their future device choice.

I am aware of that thread. (I own a note so of course I am, Samsung knows yada yada yada *yawn*)
I was under the assumption that the general sub forum was for non development posts, which this is. So I apologise that I do not conform to your idea of a non development thread.
All I was seeking was similar experiances too my own, whereby I probably will not buy another Samsung device as long as they continue too use poor quality screens.

This is very poor quality video. That is the first thing I noticed... Not only that I saw black clipping, but also white and gray clipping :silly:
So I'm not sure what I was more worried about. Whether because of a couple of squares that move around the screen (poor quality), or because some of these are gray black or white? (they all three appear crushed/cliped whatever) :silly:
The next thing I did, was look at the second video that was offered in the results, some (darker) HQ video (for ex. "theslowmoguys" videos are usualy very good quality videos and you have enough time to find critical parts of black cliping), and there is significantly less black clipping or no black clipping at all in hq videos
So I am not worried about that problem at all. Despite that, I'm in love with a black color of AMOLED screens. And I would buy another samsung product (Note3) because at Note2 this problem has been resolved
p.s. if you want a greyer black and you want solve this problem, you can download from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uZXRtYW5zbGFiLnNhIl0.
