SGS2 Flaws & Possible (future) solutions - Galaxy S II General

Hi.
I'm new to forums, so hello. I hope I won't make you nervous with my thread .
So, I have doubts on buying an SGS2. At first I was "wow'ed", then I read all reviews and watched all videos and I was "wow'ed" even more. But after reading forums I got totally disappointed, beacause SGS2 seems deeply flawed.
I know there are single threads for each problem, but getting through tens or hundreds of "me too" posts is a bit troubling, so I'd like to gather or problems, which are happening on all or at least many SGS2, on one list and ask if they got repaired or is there any view on them being repaired. Also I'd like to ask SGS2 users, who suffer from those problems, if they are really troubling and if they would buy SGS2 knowing 'bout them.
So, the list is:
- yellow tinting (smudge-stain) - I've read opinions that it's just glue, AFAIR I've read opinion that it got off after some usage time. Some claim that it is repaired in newer software, however I guess its hardware issue and I don't have any idea how such issue can be repaired via software. Is it very common, or just some phones are flawed?
- not-fluent gradients - so, I know it's software-related, and its due using 16-bits and bad dithering/high contrast on SGS2 and happens not only on SGS2, but its much more visible on SGS2 display. The question is: are there any official upgrades or custom roms that address that issue? If not, are such planned?
- pink spot on photos - common for many many phones, but we know it can be greatly corrected by software update. Are there any good software upgrades / custom photo apps to address this issue?
- darker left side of screen - just read about it recently... is it common? can it be addressed by software/firmware upgrade?
- random power offs - I've heard that many users complain about their phones going off randomly. Some said it's just matter of dust or dirt... Is there anyone who's phone is power-offing randomly and don't know why?
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
I know there are more problems, but they are not that common and can be solved by "return to a shop" method . So I don't list them here.
Once again - sorry for duplicating many posts. I hope that this thread will be useful for other people, who have doubts on buying SGS2 because of those problems.
You know. I agree on paying much for phone, but I demand flawless work. And I rage over every little issue when I expect something to be near-perfect... So... If you could help me to decide whether I want SGS2 or I don't, I'd be glad and thankfull (otherwise, just close/delete the thread ).
Cheers.

User who claim to have it will say every phone has it . Not on my phone and not on many others .

You would have to ask Samsung that question . Again its something i dont notice .

No
- darker left side of screen - just read about it recently... is it common? can it be addressed by software/firmware upgrade?
Never heard of this one
- random power offs - I've heard that many users complain about their phones going off randomly. Some said it's just matter of dust or dirt... Is there anyone who's phone is power-offing randomly and don't know why?
Who are these many users out of six million some have got to have a reboot especially with some of the numptys who install roms without reading the instructions .
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
Only been out three months so who can tell long term .
Very hot never on my phone but i dont play games .
Would i buy another you bet .
Should you buy one a BIG BIG NO you have already found loads of might be problems that you will convince yourself exist on the phone you buy .

Op please please please understand people who tend to post in general section are usually ones with problems. Those are the threads u see with 10000s of post. Usually the there's very few having those problems in those threads.
Stop and think about it, if this phone was sold defective how could it reach 6million sold. Wouldn't the tech sites be all over it if this phone was faulty.
6million vs 30users on xda and who knows what they did to there phones.

have had sgs2 for 2 months now have not faced a single problem

- Yellow tint is haaardly noticeable. You really have to be careful on a gray screen with low brightness to eventually notice it. It's not a problem at all.
- Pink spot ? I never had this issue, and I still haven't. But as stated, it's fixed in a software update, if needed.
- I haven't noticed any darker side (might be related to the yellow tint, so same reason)
- Random power offs: Haven't got any shutdown or reboot, even with custom ROMs.
- About heat problem, I got it sometimes a bit hot, but nothing preventing me from using it, or holding it.
So definately issues are not a big deal compared to the wonderfulness this phone is.

Really ? so my SG2 is just one of the fews that has yellow tint, pink spot, leaked light on home button, random high temperature issues ? so should i demand samsung to replace my SG2 ?

So I must be one of the 30 unhappy XDA people who post their problems, right?
Yes I have pink spot and the phone sometimes gets really hot, that's the two pissues I have but they don"t really bother as much as THE VOLUME of the in ear speaker and headphone volume output is very very low compare to any other phone I own (owned).
I have 4 friends who have SGS 2 and all of them complain about somehow low volume or muted sound, so I am sure it's not just me. (please don't post about using volume + or re setting the values by Samsung secret codes - tried all that, it doesn't work)
So if Samsung adress this issue with their next update I will be very happy.

Should you buy one a BIG BIG NO you have already found loads of might be problems that you will convince yourself exist on the phone you buy .

Well, if that's only reason I guess I'll give it a try anyway .
Guys, thanks for posts, but lets stick to original form, which is: (future) fixes for problems and if they are a big deal for ppl who has them. These are all common problems (some are typical of all SGS2s) so there is no use in just saying that you have them or arguing on how common they are. I don't read XDA only, also other (not-english-language) forums, so these are based not only on XDA (tbh, they are based mainly on other sources).
Please, I wouldn't like this turn into flamewar.

Maybe get one of these if you don't mind spending a bit of extra cash.

Yellow Tint Issue:
Its there on a lot of phones, A lot of people say this is a non issue because they cant see it on their phones ( or they have visual impairment ), they also fail to understand that the issue affects each phone very differently, with my personal experience of 30+ phones only 6 (AFAIK) had extremely minimal yellow tint.
My phone has a yellow tint, after knowing the 2.3.4 removes the tint I've stopped the replacement request already as it is pointless. It maybe a non issue to you or to the other 5,999,999 buyers but its there.
Gradient issue:
Some say its a rendering limitation on the GPU it self, others say it can be corrected at a kernel level by putting the render mode to 24bit.
Pink spots:
Software issue, I dont think samsung has any intentions to fix this, since this is a common norm with modern day cameras on mobile phones, this is a non issue for me.
Darker left side of the screen:
A lot of phones or maybe even all phones suffer from this issue from 0 to 20% brightness, at 30% it even outs a tiny bit, at 50% its non existent anymore.. My Galaxy S never had this issue even at 0% brightness, a non issue to me.
Random Power offs:
Never experienced it actually but I know a friend who had this issue got this unit replaced.
High temperature:
Different phones give off different heat profiles, I've been playing a lot of HD games on my phone and Its barely even warmer than playing Angry birds, on my friend's phone his heats up pretty good but not to the point that its alarming.
Despite all of these issues, I still love the phone. What bothers me the most is the screen issue though, none of these were on the Galaxy S and with the Galaxy S2 the general public has accepted these issue to be normal ( which baffles me ). Just dont let the people who wanna run statistics in your face tell you different.

Theres no fix yet and I really doubt samsung will which such a small camera issue, its practically not there if you dont look for it.
If you wanna know about this then take a picture of a white sheet of paper under automatic white balance you should be able to see it even on the viewfinder mode.

I honestly believe that there are more than 30 ppl in XDA having issues with the phone that includes random shut-off, overheating, camera issues, screen issues and battery life issues. But I guess those people who got unlucky with their phones are people who dont know how to use it right since the other 6M buyers didnt have issues at all. Issues are always a minority else the phone would never even hit mass production.. Even the GPS issues on the Galaxy S which was covered by techsites, they were a minority but that doesnt mean their issues are invalid/unrealistic/made up.

Stop *****ing around. It's a nice phone, if you like it buy it.

I dont think the OP is *****ing at anything, I believe he is asking for opinions from different users on what they think about the issue and their experiences with it. It actually pays to read the first post.

If he's thinking about getting a phone of this caliber, he chose it because of other features, which are far more significant then a "darker left side". I don't blame the OP, I read a LOT before buying it, because it's an expensive phone; but what's the point of asking all these? Some people have it, and they complained, some don't, they didn't... so at most you will get some random answers depending on your luck and which people reply to your thread. If I'd say yes my phone has a yellowish tint, would he not buy it anymore? Is this so decisive?
There are ****loads of threads which already discussed it; reading them all is lots of work, but asking this has the same results as you would open a thread like that and read 10 posts randomly, you just take a small sample and reassure yourself that it's a good phone, or the opposite.
Okay OP, let me tell you, this phone is the BEST you will ever get. I don't have any of the problems you said, expect the pink spot, which I never noticed until someone pointed it out. I know other people who have it and they don't have the problems either. Take my words, go and buy it now, it's awesome. Weee.

You sound like your the one *****ing

You know this thread wasn't meant to be about existance of flaws (which exist) but primarly about if there is a fix for them or if the fix is coming. Maybe I stated it wrong in original post (now as I read it, maybe that is the case).
EDIT: I am getting SGS2 later this week or the next week for 99%. I'll just check at the store if the yellow thing isn't a dealbreaker. If no, I'll get it. Of course any feedback on main topic (which is (upcoming) fixes) is welcome!

Cofalik, any normal person researching the SGS2 will get scared after reading the threads here. I've got the pink circle and yellow tinting, but the problems can be fixed/improved with software. Besides, they are difficult to detect (when not specifically looking for them) and only show up in certain conditions. I never had any heating problems or random reboots.
The phone is fanstastic. I think you're gonna love it.
However, if you don't, please blame someone else.

Please....i need ur smart and honest opinion

Im using xperia arc as of now but im planning to buy sgs2 just for future proofing of a smartphone device..but im reading a lot of negative comments as to overheating aand yellowish tint on the screen and pinkish discoloration in the cam..or all u sgs2 users, can u comment with full honesty on ur device? Iys really my first choice..htc sensation will be my 2nd choice.. Will that overheating be fixed with a firmware upgrade? How bout the cam, battery and discoloration problem?
please please i need a smart and honest opinion..
► Well, I don't have any Overheating issues. I don't think there is any overheating issue if I am not wrong. Yes, it could be possible that some devices are damaged in manufacturing, but that's very few. Also keep in mind that the device will be heated if you play game for prolonged hours, if you play games while charging, if you put a bad/fully back covered case while charging/playing, but that doesn't mean Overheat. Always check Temperature of the battery before quoting it as 'Overheat', without a figure that term is meaningless.
► Pink spot in photos were a firmware related problem, which is gone away with new firmware releases. You could also try to update the Camera firmware separately.
► For Yellowish tint in display see this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079444
Besides, no device is perefect, each and every has their own problem, you just have to find a near perfect one, which I believe GSII is. You can go for Sensation too, then you'd have to visit XDA for much more time, as it will have more problem than GSII
Regards.
The only issues I have had is a broken USB port which I got a swapped out phone for, so no problem there.
The battery life is great as far as I am concerned even when moderately hammering the phone...4-6 hours of screen on time per charge depending upon what you are doing with it. It's only bad if you use badly coded apps installed I think.
Hardware issues such as a dodgy screen can easily be resolved by taking the phone back for a swap.
Software issues will all get sorted out with firmware updates I believe. Not that I really think there is much wrong.
People complaining on forums is a bad method of judging a phone, after all millions of people have the phone and there are relatively few real complaints on here.
I say go for it, you won't regret it, have had many phones by lots of different manufacturers and this is genuinely the first one I cannot stop playing with. It's a real life changer to be honest.
1. No yellow tint here, at least me and my friends can't see it on my phone even if it exists and general opinion is that it exists on every SII to a lesser or greater extent.
2. Pink spot on camera here, no matter which official firmware i updated with Kies, no matter what camera firmware i installed. It only pops up in certain conditions, that's why people say they don't have it or say it's fixed.
3. Overheating - depends on what one considers to be overheating. My battery temeprature never got past 48 % degrees, but this temperature feels hot for your fingers when touching the screen or back cover.
thanks for both of u guys...
implanning to buy maybe this last week of august..
in my xperia arc experience, i didnt encounter any overheating..in fact even when im playing need for speed or heavy gunnerm or gt racing which are my 3 fave games my phone dont event get warm...in charging, yes, but only for the first 30 mins i guess..
i feel it gets warm only when im using 3G when browsing..
i hope those problems as just an isolated issues...btw, im working ins saudi arabia as of now..im not sure about the latest firmware available here. i heard about gingerbread 2.3.4 already released for SGS2..is it already available in ur country or u still have to flash it yourself?
If your not in a rush maybe you could wait till the holidays, its rumored that a new andriod reference device ( the Nexus S ) will be out by that time, also a new Galaxy S line device for sure.
For the issues you posted:
1.) Overheating - Some phones seem to run hotter than others, ive been through a couple of replacements and this one I have runs hotter when gaming/surfing and also runs noticeably hotter when charging.
2.) Yellow tinting on the left side - Luck of the draw, if your buying the phone for its screen it might tick you off depending on how severe the issue is that you got on the phone, Using a 2.3.4 kernel alleviates this issue but the left side is a tad bit dimmer and is noticeable proportional to the yellow tint. Some users are not affected by this because they plainly dont see it (which is great) others have accepted this as a "normal" defect hence why samsung never rectified this issue. There are also legit QC issues on the screen refer to this
3.) Pink spot on camera - we dont really know if all phones are affected by Im guessing NOT due to the very low participation on the thread in XDA and also a very low or non existent internet media coverage about this, a very minor issue TBH.
4.) Battery Life - Its great, dont expect it to out last any netbook or laptop though.. I believe only the IP4 can outlast the battery on the S2 especially with wifi 24/7 with tons of IM and email apps.
i see no problems with mine .
love it in fact .

great dev side too here on xda

Honestly I have a lot of friends with iphones and the general consensus is that they get like 14 hours... Now maybe that is because they haven't updated or w.e but I just flashed the latest nightly and my battery life is really good so far... I expect to get 18 hours today.

Weird, I get at least a day from mine, moderate-heavy use..
Bought from T-Booth, unlocked from Bell to Rogers using an unlock service. Absolutely LOVE the device but the battery life is frustrating. With great power... comes great responsibility in keeping a charger with you. Apparently. lol.
I feel like everyone is being really picky when it comes to those issues, its just like the whole iPhone's antenna gate problem, it wasn't really a big problem because when i had the iPhone, i never dropped a call. I bet you that you wouldn't even notice the issues if you didn't read this forum

Lol, but you didn't have AT&T. You don't antenna gate for dropped calls with that network
Buying a new phone for futureproofing is always a bad solution. No matter what, there will ALWAYS be new and better technology in less than a year after (Moore's law applies here too)... when that is said, the SGS2 really is a good candidate for holding on to in the next couple of years. But don't buy a phone, and think it's futureproofed - it's NOT.
If it's shear power, then the SGS2 really is a good choice, forget about the Sensation... it's really not that good!! I will say that the SGS2 is the best phone, i have ever owned... and that is said very honestly!!
If it's shear design... keep your Arc, as it's a very nice phone, and very beautyfull to look at. It also has a good camera, which is slightly better than the 2 other phones, when it comes to taking pictures in the dark. And it has specs, that is okay, and apart from space for apps - it will stand it's grounds for some time yet. And when it can't cut the mustard anymore, the SGS3 will be out...
Tend to agree, you will future proof for about a month or two, with the rate that new android devices arrive the SGS2 will be out of date by Christmas, but that doesn't mean its forgotten, it will be one fast beast for quite some time until the quad cores arrive next year.
The only problem I have is the incredibly slow charging time even on the standard official mains charger.
No pink tint in camera, no or I cant see this screen yellow thing.
Why the need to upgrade from the Arc in the first place? I came from the Nokia 5800, and that thing is just too limited for my use for example. Good thing S2 came out just in time

Issue Poll (How many of you really have it?)

Hey guys! I thought I'd start a poll to see how many Note owners have issues. It seems that a lot of people complain, and it may seem exaggerated. Let's find out.
THE POLL: 2 phase poll
Are you having issues?
Please elaborate in the thread.
the 2 threads thats posted, theres only about 5 people with issues.

That's why I started the poll, to actually see how many people are having issues or not. I showed this thread to my room mate, and he laughed and said "I'm sure some of them are Apple employees trying to steal some thunder" lol.
Regardless, I've taken the plunge, and I hope I get a good one, but just to see, I read a lot on this forum and I see a lot of negative remarks, which worried me, and I'm patient enough to read a lot, so I'm sure there are others who are less patient and just want to know what the real situation is... hence this thread's creation
Interesting!
Biggest issue with any device is the internet. You have to take what you read with a grain of salt. If I listen to the internet I wouldnt have a house full of nice things.
Wouldnt have ended up with my favorite vehicle dodge magnum or my plasma tv if it was up to the internet. Years later they all work perfectly till this day.
All in all, people tend to post more when there having issues then when not. If I created a thread about how awesome the note is, it would maybe get 20-50 post if your lucky and sink to the last page of the website. If I made a thread about something negative about the note I would have a 100+ post and 100000 views.
If majority of the galaxy notes in the world had issues, you wouldnt have to visit xda or android forums to find out. Good luck with your poll.

I don't see any harm in having this poll either. I think it'll reaffirm more than it will bother. Especially since it takes all of 3 seconds to vote and hit the back key.

Wifi signal dropped
Got my note last week and right off the bat I noticed my wifi signal kept getting dropped (as in auto turned itself off). At first I thought it was just a freak accident, but after having to repeatedly turn on wifi I realized something was wrong; I re-setup my wifi connection settings a couple of times, did the OTA update avail to my unit (unlocked, unbranded version) and even did factory reset twice but to no avail. I guess I should say factory reset seemed to fix it the first time, but the problem came back after close to an hour of testing. Thankfully I just bought it so I returned it to the seller who claimed after testing for 2 hrs my problem never flared up, but still decided to send me a replace thank God! I hope this isn't the case with the new handset I will be receiving in a few days, but I wonder if anyone has had this?
btw the wifi connection was setup to a secured network so it wasn't about being booted off for too many devices to my router
got no real issues, some battery drain problems that i can easily detected and destroyed thats all.
I have problem with Android OS eating CPU when Wi-Fi enabled. Disabling it helps. This is a software issue, I had the same with my SGS2 once a while.
until the screen everything is near perfect! with the screen i have the same issue as with my first galaxy S2: one side of the screen has a tint and is considerably darker at low brightness levels. (S2: left side, yellow tint; Note: right side, blue tint)
I used to have "sleep of death" issue but not anymore since I flashed the latest KL3 firmware.
Seems i may have some problems with call clarity, but i don't really care as i only use it for that in emergencies. Also this may change with the addition of a blutooth headset or if i get some more practice calling people/being called on it.
I bet most of you have units with the horizontal lines appearing. You just gotta look closely at low brightness, lol. These statistics don't look appealing to me; I've seen over 10 Notes all over India and all have identical issues. No difference, lol. Go Figure.

its possible that all India units had a bad production line. And if you REALLY need to look that closely, why would you care if it's not noticeable? This is always true with cars, your body (as no one is completely symmetrical), or anything hand made. this is no different, but if you can't notice it yourself, and you use it happily, then why bother yourself FINDING AND LOOKING for issues?
If you have to look closely then thats not a real issue, but yeah even upon closer inspection the screen should not have any of those since the lower end SAMOLED devices dont have it.
On my end the main issue I have is the lines as well but you dont need to look for it, at any brightness level its visible even at 100% but its been approved for a screen replacement anyway.
A small issue is on the ear piece but I've gotten used to this on samsung devices since the galaxy S1, the volume on the ear piece is EXTREMELY low.. my older and cheaper phones have about 3x more volume and about TWICE the clarity.
Touch screen sensitivity is rather poor compared to the Galaxy S1 ( pre 2.2 update ) it has the same sensitivity level as an untweaked Galaxy S2.
Gamma levels need to be worked out, the HD screen is moot.
No issues yes.. Owned it for two days only..
If you included the pink spot on the poll that would probably be the most selected issue.

I had a similar issue, however I tracked the problem down to my setup. A couple of weeks after acquiring the Note, the wi-fi started to turn itself off 'on it's own'. This happened for several days in a row, so I thought there was a problem with the phone, however...
I use an application call Llama to automatically switch on and off my Wi-fi when I enter or leave my home GSM cell (there's only one cell in the village where I live!). I'd been using this app for well over a year on my Desire without issue, so I'd automatically installed it on the Note. It turns out that that the cell tower was either faulty, being fixed/upgraded or both. I told Llama to spend 5 minutes relearning the cells in my area and the problem has now gone away

Whats with all the complaining?

So, I've had my Note for two weeks now, and I have read lots and lots of threads and topics regarding the Note here on xda... Many of them made me think really hard about buying the note at all.
What I cant understand, is that people are complaining about lots of stuff, like stuttering in 3d-games, overheating, s-pen not working, battery drain and so on.
I can honestly say I have absolutely NO problems with my Note. Is it because i came from a htc Hd2 with hyperdroid ROM (with stutter, heat and drain problems) or just because I'm lucky?
I am a heavy user, and like to test all my technical equipment to the fullest. I have done so with the Note for the last two weeks (especially on my 8-hour train trip) and I must say that I am nothing but happy with this AMAZING device.
I am on stock ROM, rooted, and the only "help" for a faster device I have installed is Chainfire 3D. I have never experienced stuttering in gaming, never overheated (max 45 degrees celcius, checked batt temp in androsens after a while of heavy gaming+charging).
So I raise my question: Is it possible that many of the users in here has gotten a note from a bad batch? It sure sounds like it when a person starts a thread about a issue I've never experienced and several users reply with "yeah its a general problem with the note" and "I'm gonna switch my note for an iPhone".
What do you guys think?
I've had my note for a out a month. It's an open UK version, latest gingerbread, unrooted. Have had no problems of any kind.

Galaxy Note is the perfect phone.
No issue with GALAXY NOTE here.its very good phone.I am on check ROM version 6.
Love it and just waiting for premium suite with ics.

I guess most people that are complaining in the forums are Crackflashers that always want the most current rom, but they never recognize that the most builds need Drivers.
As seen in ICS Rom Threads. Complains about a non working FM Radio or Videocamera.
If you use your Note With stock rom everything should be fine.
Sorry my english is not the best but i hope you get the point.
IMO Note is many people's first Android smartphone and they think that they have some problems with the device, whereas everything works as it should.
I also had Hd2 and I kinda used to mess with the Android.
So I can say that I dont have any problems with my Note running on stock rom.
The large number of issues reported here does look at odds with reality when you visit other user groups such as AVForums where there is almost no faults or complaints about the Note. The 7.7 forum at AVForums is the same with helpful non-critical posts being the norm. I would recommend anyone thinking of buying a Note or a 7.7 to visit AVForums to see how happy people are there and to take the huge number of issues reported here with a pinch of salt.
No phone is perfect.
When you sell millions of devices, you're going to see hundreds of complaints. It's the Internet.
I generally ignore complaints unless I see multiple people complaining about the same thing.
I've been considering the Note along with the upcoming HTC One X for my contract upgrade but the Note was winning due to the battery size among other things. However, I had noticed a lot of complaints here about 3D game performance but that didn't bother me as I don't really care for games on my phone. Then I saw mention of stuttering in normal use and it made me think the Note was suffering from lack of power graphically despite the positives. I'm glad to see this posted as it more or less tells me those reports aren't the majority.

What you say is true. However, why have all the faulty devices been sold to xda people and almost none to AVForums people? Something doesn't add up.
I'm very heavy active smartphone user too. With Note from november 2011. I flash few times only for deodex and root to 2.3.6 and one time for 4.0.3 (now I'm back to 2.3.6). I don't have stuttering in 3d-games, overheating, s-pen not working. I only one time have battery drain, but i quickly fix that just flashing new kernel.
So I raise my question: Is it possible that many of the users in here has gotten a note from a bad batch?

No. The problem is that for many people it was their first smartphone.
aside from gaming, which I don't do at all, I would call myself a "heavy-poweruser", I got the Note as soon as it came out in Europe (bought it from Germany), I am on stock LC1 + CF-Root (updated today, I was on LB2) and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the Note.
put simply: I can't see myself using any other phone..

That was what I thought at first, I just didnt want to offend anyone.
But lets be honest. Posts complaining about the device like that is kind of a turn-off when it comes to whether or not to buy the note. I think its important to let people know that the note is a better device than what these complainers make it out to be. Not because I want Samsung to earn more money, but because it really is the best device I've ever laid hands on.
If someone reading this seriously consider buying the note, I say GO FOR IT.

You are absolutely right about the excessive complaining here. If you check the AVForum you will see there are hardly any complaints which proves the problem is with the complainers here and not the device.
I don't know about you guys, as hard to accept there are really some problems with our Note.. one of those prevalent problems are the colour banding and screen blockiness issue.... some even had already gotten a refund over this primary issue....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430847&highlight=galaxy+note+screen
It's either some are just the unlucky few or either we just tend to shrugged off the issue (even its already infront of us)
for me it was the color render problem (I'm in the acceptance phase and try not to care about it anymore)
the point is, when someone gets a high end phone and pays that amount of money (price differs from country to another, here in costs about $860 to get it) people except maybe a flawless device or something that will do anything they throw at it
plus being a developers forum, many users expects to find solution or a fix for their problem whatever that problem was, i guess that's why you'll find so many complaining.

Selling perfect phones is bad business decision for these companies. With 2 years contract and subsidies, the manufacturers only need to create overpriced phone that last for a short time.
With that said, beside for being a little too big and not officially pentaband, the Note is the best phone I've used. I have no idea where the accusation of stuttering 3D graphic from unless someone have too many bloatwares and background processes on their device. The device have a Mali-400MP4 gpu, it can handle modern combat at 720p. People needs to understand its outputting 3D graphic in HD, but thats the limitation of Android, it can't change to lower resolution.
For me it does not render some shade of gray correctly, but it seem to be a software issue, 720p AMOLED screen is still amazing compared to offerings from competitors, nothing come close when sunlight is involved. I think the Galaxy S III will be a good successor, they will use RGB matrix and hopefully have better quality control for the screens. It does seem to be a problem for Samsung lately, specifically International version versus American version that tends to have more issues.

Since when HTC started mimicking Apple and using metal in their phones I crossed them off my list (MOBILE devices are meant to be LIGHT) so I don't know the quality of their current phones but I see Samsungs as of very good quality. My last 3 smartphones have been the Galaxy S, Galaxy SII and now Galaxy Note (plus the Galaxy Tab 10.1) ZERO hardware problem with each and every one of them.
And I have dropped the 3 smartphones several times... (and I never use cases)
Occasionally.
I get the occasional overheating but it only happens once in a while or when I'm playing Fruit Ninja / FN Puss n' Boots or watching movies on MX video player. Stuttering happens sometimes but I don't really mind it, to be honest. The Galaxy Note really is a magnificent phone.

Samsung Developer Is Working On Colour Rendering/Banding/Black Clipping Issue***

Great news guys, the currently most updated news have state that Samsung Developer is working on Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 colour rendering/banding/black clipping issue. Good job Samsung :good:

Hello Janice,
We are working on this issue.
When I know something new, I will post it here.

Good News!!
yes, this indeed is a good news for us .
I think its a codec issue. I took one of the last movies that I watched via HDMI from the GSN to a sony bravia 42" wide-screen telly and then compared that to playing the same movie file direct to the bravia via usb. the difference is amazing. So I dont think its so much the screen, but more likley to be the codecs on the SGN.
Then why do some notes have the black crush and banding really bad, and some have it really mild?
My first note was a bad one which i returned, i waited a month and bough another and this one is a lot better.
I think it`s an hardware problem, the screen or the display chips i dont know, but if two notes are running identical software, and one is bad and the other is not, what else can it be.
John.
i hope they prepare a fix for this and the emmc bug soon..
good news. edit: it just shows that maybe if the community had gone done this route 6 months ago we MAY have got an outcome similar to this then, rather than waiting on a 3rd party developer to come up if a fix and nagging them all the way.
Oh and good job to Janice for taking the initiative to start that thread on Samsung Dev
Don't be optimistic about what Samsung says....... for how long have they promised to work on the eMMC bug but have gone silence since then? They will just continue to focus on their Latest Flagship SGS3 and how to sell 10 million copies by July and after that how to get SGN2 on the way. They will not do anything about this problem..... maybe we should report this SH*T to media like ENDGADGET,GSMARENA etc etc

Get your facts right, they never promised to work on the Emmc bug...
I think the issue is more of a mis-color calibration part on the phones. Some have less mis color calibration than others.
Samsung's head QA supervisors should be fired a long time ago with this issue. Releasing a product that is never quite fully baked at all.

As I said, they never promised anything, just some Samsung developers trying to help the community.
Do you have any idea how many ppl work at Samsung ?
Do you have any idea at which level these contacts are ?
Have you seen ANY official announcement from samsung on this issue ??
I didn't say they are not doing anything, I said they never promised anything.
So as I said to the other member, get your facts right, the same applies to you
Be either someone from Samsung on from these forums, just make an app that allow us to control Gamma curve on this device, I can manage the situation with that.
I did tests with gammatest.png image and it looks different displayed on the Gallery and on QuickView.
But we need some way to manually adjust the brightness level, to make lower RGB values darker. I would like to see RGB 1,1,1 pretty much black, and RGB 5,5,5 different from 10,10,10. Right now any brightness level between 1 and 20 is rendered with pretty much the same brightness, and 0 is pure black.
This gives dark scenes a very bad aspect, with a big gray and a big black area instead of a gradient.

Well, I cant fight that one. The symptoms appear as a potential codec issue, but, your own observation points in the other direction. It's what I call another 'Samsung sods muddle'.
Allegedly : Sam*ung know there is a problem with the screen, but they don't want a recall, so every time somebody rings Sa*sung support they get told this is the first they have heard about it, also people were reporting that negative posts on review website were deleted or edited, is there a cover up?
I think Sam*ung is working on the problem behind the scenes, and new stock is a lot better at least in my case, but still not perfect.
Though i know HT*C has a problem with the one x , I have one with a yellow blob on the screen, and So*y xperias has a problem with the screen color of there new mobile.
So it`s not just Sa*sung having problems.
I don't want Sams*ng to release a firmware fix, as not all note`s are bad and i don't want my note with a good screen getting worse.
The screens need to be calibrated individually, but this is going to require the phone being returned to a service center, as a hardware calibrator will be needed, but i doubt Sa*ung will do this.
I think a app similar to the "screen adjuster" one, but a improved version that does not require root, and has an example image you have to match with a slider like you do with a lcd display calibrator.
My advice is if you have a note with black clipping or banding and you cannot live with it, get it replaced, I have read that it took one note owner 5 exchanges before he got a good one.

it seems like samsung galaxy nexus is also having the black clipping issue, some user have claim that it have been solved by using the lean kernel (colour calibration) "wonder is there any something like this for galaxy note ??? "
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/465326-horrible-blue-aliasing-artifacts-black-areas-during-video-playback.html
I have notest that, when I am taking a photo with the camera software, in dark conditions, I don't see the black clipping effect. I take the photo... then open it in Gallary and... the clipping appears there. So is something in the software.
This is really bugging me.
I just did another round with Samsung regarding this. They are terrible. I told them that I exchanged my device and the new one still has the problem, now they want me to send the brand new one for repair which will take up.to 2 weeks. The first rep I spoke to at technical support acknowkedged the problem and said it was normal, at which point I linked her to a youtube vid of a dude who finally got them to replace his Note with on manufactured recently, she was like Oh, and forwarded ny call to customer services, who blatently lied and said that they were not aware of the issue, so I linked her to samsungs own developer forum where one of the devs have acknowledged the problem and said that they are working on it, only for her to say that it was a 3rd party website and if they knew about it, there would have been an official announcement, I advised her that it was not a 3rd party, and that it was samsungmobile.com but she was having none of it and wanted me to send for repair. I told her to log the complaint and stick it. I already went 4 days without a phone when they advised me to exchange fir a new one (which has the same issue) Now they want me to go without a phone for 2 weeks only to get it back with the same issue again. Fing LAME!

The Inconsistency of the OPO

Hello Everyone,
I want to share my opinion on this subject, I don't think a thread about this has been opened, but here is what I'd like to talk about, the inconsistency of the device.
So why am I saying the OnePlus One is inconsistent? First of all, I am not, by any means, a pro at rooting/flashing/"android hacking." I'm just an average rooter/flasher who like to get the best out of the devices, and rooting provides that. Anyway, why am I saying this device is inconsistent? I've seen people have many, many issues with their devices, issues I have never had, actually, I don't think I've ever had an issue at all (Only one reboot when watching a YouTube video with Vanir, that's the worst bug I've ever gotten I think). These issues go from having touchscreen problems, yellow banding at the bottom, to having problems when flashing other ROMs, like bad battery life, reboots, etc. Everybody keeps having different problems, and others never have them! I have flashed at least over 8 ROMs, and I might have experienced some stupid ROM bug, but never had any noticeable issues with my OPO itself. Am I just that lucky that I am not getting any problems with my device at all? (Thank God though...), do many people actually have defective phones? From what I am seeing, some people get good phones, others get bad ones, kind of like a 50/50 chance, hence why I think this device is inconsistent. I truly hope things get much, much better with the OnePlus Two, and hopefully the only issues OPO users face with that phone are just issues related to flashing or just "messing with the phone."
I'd love to hear from someone who hasn't really had any problems at all with their OPO just like me. I wanna finish this off by saying that I absolutely love this phone. Coming from an HTC One M7 to this was a huge jump, and I am truly enjoying it. This is just an opinion, would love to hear some of you guys.
Thanks for reading.
I've had a good experience, EXCEPT that I have to restart my phone to get a GPS lock if I didn't use it in the previous 24 hours. All in all, I consider myself lucky and also wonder why the inconsistent experiences. I'm thinking that some of the rumors are true and that they cut corners on production and just don't wanna own up to it.
In the future, I expect that I'll just wait for the next phone in the Nexus family.
I am just really curious about what OnePlus plans to do for their next phone. Really curious...
Sent from crispy tocino
just don't care about negative comments, all these ppl have battery problems with any phone or ruin their phone by flashing not properly.
ive seen the same ppl over and over again here, with totally different phones.
Yes I don't see any real issues either and I have two phones. One Chinese variant and my global arrived just yesterday. Can't notice any issues with either apart from things that are my own fault, e.g. using unstable settings in whatever custom kernel I'm running at the time.
Mmm bacon
