Facebook photos upload stuck in drop down status - Galaxy S III General

Can anyone help with clearing the drop down status menu?
When I upload a photo to Facebook, the ONGOING list in the drop down menu shows 0% permenantly, even when the final result shows 100% complete below it. The only way I can clear the 0% status is to clear the app cache.
What am I missing or doing wrong?

its an facebook related issue! Just contact the developer to fix it!
has nothing to do with galaxy s3

Reinstall the app. Ive had this happen on other devices and a reinstall fixed it. Update to the latest app version too.

I updated the app and it cleared the menu but did the same when I uploaded another picture.
Then uninstalled and reinstalled and still the same problem.
Next up is an email to facebook.

Go to application manager / Facebook/ clear data
If it doesn't disappear uninstall and install again

Hi,
I am still not able to upload using my S3.. it is a real shame. It works some time and 90% just fails. It just stuck in the notification area, sometimes at 0%, sometimes at 40% (not sure why). and I can't tell what is the actual error. Could it be the image size? I am uploading a photo taken by the 8M S3 camera (but i think the size is much less than 8M since I zoomed in when I took the photo)
How come such an error is never fixed? how many people have had this problem for long? This has been the case every since my S2 from 1 year ago..
If it is not Android or Samsung problem, then it makes me wonder (and frustrated) that Facebook never tried to do anything about this, and I think it is widely reported

It's not just you
The facebook app for Android doesn't seem as well put together as the IOS one. It's running a boat load of services and still wants a separate app for messenger, runs slowly and fails to post pictures and videos regularly for me.
You can fix it by clearing the app data and/or doing a reboot. They both resolve the issue until the app flakes again.

"Gallery" Crashes and CPU Hog after JI6 Update

Since I received the OTA update, WatchDog has notified me several times that the Gallery is a CPU hog, using 78-80% resources. I have to kill it to stop.
Anyone else have this issue?
Things that I have done to try and fix the problem:
- Blank removable card , still have the same issues.
- I did a complete wipe/factory reset and still have the same issues.
- I cleared data through System Settings which recreated thumbnails and other data, still have the same issues.

i hope this doesn't start a debate but...lol...
i just run advanced task killer and i add my core apps to the ignore list. then i change the atk's settings so it kills everything else everytime the screen goes off. kill interval i set to 'crazy'. works for me.

Nobody else is having this issue? I just received the message again, multiple times I day, but this time I havent even used the Gallery since I rebooted my phone.
No, I'm not having this issue at all. And luckyduck, you really shouldn't use task killers especially with those settings. Use Auto Killer instead. It used Android's built-in memory management system and tweaks it.
I had this happen when it did it's first media scan but only the first time after first boot from JI6
Havent checked CPU usage, but my Gallery is buggy since the update.
Alot of times, when in Messaging App, selecting Attach, then Pictures, freezes. It will show me the Gallery background with no folder/photo options.
This happens sometimes when opening the gallery itself as well. I will see the reflective gallery background without any photos.
My gallery always lags upon opening n sometimes freezes... So i know what u mean...

Anyone know a good alternative?
I've had the same exact issue as you.
Starting when the update came through, after every reboot, Watchdog notifies me that Gallery is hogging anywhere from 40-60% CPU. It behaves this way for a few minutes and then goes back down to normal CPU usage.
Not sure what it's doing after we reboot but it never did this before JI6.

As is mine. Sometimes it just freezes all together and I have to take out the battery. This is since J16 update. I am hoping to find a new pic viewer because this is crazy!
I've been having the issue also, but I've been able to recover out of it to avoid taking the battery out. Just takes a few seconds to get out of the gallery and close the gallery app. Usually works after that.

This happens to me also. Every time I reboot and go to Gallery for the first time it freezes, a few times it locked up my phone like an old PC Windows OS. It just froze. Reboot is the only way back.
This must have something to with building its initial cache? Just thinking because its on the first start after boot. Wonder if its a bug in writing the initial cache. The Gallery is based on a program called Cool Iris, the web version uses rss feeds to display the effect. I have worked on web sites with this code. I have yet to find the code in the galaxy and am not yet familiar with the stand alone program. Its all packaged up in one big app.
Be nice to have a fix for the fix.....
This happened before I installed OCLF 2. and after installation OCLF on JI6 official via ODIN, Accurate battery mod and Mobile AP mod.
Edit 1: I just started Gallery for a test and it locked up on "loading image". This time i just let it sit. It stayed frozen for 7 minutes then the screen went blank. After that without touching it, the phone rebooted itself and started back up. I'd say this is no small bug. Crud.
Edit 2: If I can get to open once without a crash, I can open and close it a few times and it gets faster. If I leave alone and do not open it for a view hours it starts slow again but does not crash. Talk about lag! Its like 30 seconds to load. Yuck, not a good bug fix if it causes new bugs...
Well, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with this issue. It's really frustrating to want to show off pictures only to have to wait five minutes to cycle through the rebooting process. What a drag.
I would just like to add that another thing I noticed after the update is that sometimes when I snap a picture and switch over to the gallery to view it, the gallery won't even show the most recently snapped photo. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, but when it doesn't show, I back out of the gallery and go back in one or two times for it to show up.
I just noticed this today too. Was working fine before. I did note in the JI6 update that there was a Kernel revision...I wonder if it was for the gallery "Kernel: 3D library patch"
~SB
I wish we had a change log that was better then what was officially sent out; "... plus forty or more bug fixes..." that tells me zero. I can get more from a solo app writing Dev, that just did an upgrade to for his app. Anyone know of a decent change log?
I have not seen these issues widely reported either, anyone else?
As far the Gallery being a resource hog are you guys saying more than before the update? Because just the nature of the app, I would assume it would be just by it bells and whistles. The reason I ask is sometimes when an app is troubled or needs a fix they "fix" it just by giving it more priority to tap resources.
I'm just guessing here... my Gallery worked perfect before the update. As the Gallery goes, I don't even know what the original Ji6 fix was for. Shrug*~
Still a great phone. But I used to love to show off the gallery, I'm photographer and I have some final prints loaded. It was a great marketing tool to get my work in shops and galleries. The Galaxy S. Tab will be my walking portfolio, 'can't wait.

HTC News app and widget issues

I've been using the HTC News widget to keep an eye on a few technology feeds and a few other things for a while and find it pretty handy. Unfortunately for reasons I haven't found it decided to stop updating around two days ago. I have it set to update automatically every four hours but that wasn't happening and tapping the bottom area to force a refresh just left it hanging at "Updating" without success.
I tried removing the subscriptions I had and added two test subscriptions to see what happened. When I finished adding them I was back at the home screen and it told me there was no news. Considering one of the subscriptions was Gizmodo I find that impossible to believe so something has bugged it out. Being the genius (HAH!) that I am I decided to try and see if going to "Manage Applications" and forcing it to stop would fix it. Big mistake! Now when I try to add the widget or launch HTC News it looks like it's about to open and then I'm staring at the home screen. No crash message, no errors, it's just as though the app quit instantly.
That's where I am now. I have tried restarting the phone to force all processes to restart at boot up but it didn't work so now I'm stuck with a the HTC News app failing to load. Any suggestions on what to do to fix this? I still have no idea why it stopped working in the first place either.
same problem
I am having the same problem. Did u get a system update from HTC? I think mine stopped working after this update.
Yeah, the second update not long ago. I think that's when the random reboots started too.

I have just sent HTC an email about this RSS News reader problem. i will keep you updated if I get a reply.
same problem here, but not related to the update!
i know this from my past:
as my signature shows i'm coming from hd2, and i had a desire hd ROM running
at last. there, after some days of the same rom, the problems with non-updating
news reader started to happen. i even felt smart and deleted the data from the
settings/ applications menue of the news reader, after that i had the same
problem as dyonas: a non functioning news reader.
sorry, but back then only a clean start (factory reset or in case of the hd2 a
deletion of the data.img) worked...
would be also glad if somebody would tell us how to fix this without having to
reflash/hard-reset!
Funny that you say that TML, I backed up all my apps thinking that it would be the only solution that would definitely fix it. I'll wait and see if we hear anything other than this but it shouldn't be a big deal to restore the apps again. I'd rather avoid it but at least the option is there.
Well I figured I might as well try a factory reset and it worked. The widget works again, and as a bonus my DHD feels ultra nippy again. I thought it was a tiny bit sluggish after I entered account details for sync but a few minutes later I saw why. Notification bar said 36 applications restored.
This phone rocks, Google rocks, Android rocks. All I had to download were things from the HTC hub. I even still have my text messages from before the reset.

To backup apps and phone data I used MyBackup Pro from that market but as I said, I didn't need to install them since Google restored them. I didn't get settings and account information on things like Toutieur (twitter app) restored because I didn't restore my backup, I don't know if it will restore properly on the DHD since I didn't try. I was about to try so I could offer a better answer but I'm having issues with data connectivity tonight that I'm 99% sure are to do with T-Mobile.
Steps taken
Download VISIONary from the market and run it to get temporary root
Use MyBackup Pro with root privileges, backup apk and their data, backup phone data (sms, mms etc)
Factory reset the phone (Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset at the bottom)
It gave me two separate confirmation screens (liked that!) then it does the reset, reboots and restores from firmware and the phone loads up after a few minutes.
That's all I did. It's worth mentioning that you shouldn't do this without plenty of battery life.
I am now having the same problem, the news feeds wont refresh! Is a hard reset the only option?
I don't know if a hard reset is the only option but the response I got from HTC suggested clearing the cache of both the app and widget, which I did before my "force stop" madness. The factory reset was a pain but short of waiting a week or more for HTC to get somewhere it's the fastest. Using WiFi during the setup after the reset it had all my apps and other information back within 10 minutes. The only things missing were sound sets and a skin I downloaded from the HTC Hub, everything else was there.
I just hard reset mine. Newsreader is now working. I got the same response as you from HTC

Can confirm this has now happened twice to me!
Any solution here? or an alternative app that has a nice appearance like this one?

Just my experience....
Tried to add BBC or Gizmodo.
On the channel list showed up a red spot with ! Probably cause no news are found!
Seeing that I have opened the channel and I have played with the menu
Some seconds and I all the news appeared !!
But returning to the channels list the red spot was still there.
I think that the reader think the news are already been red or something like that...
And more, I cannot remove the subscription!
I suppose that the first time you connect to Google it download your google reader subs and after then fails to sinc or manage new ones
I have the same issue with the news gadget and the friend stream gadget. I might agree with some of the posts above that this happened around the recent update. No other issues with this phone

Like the thumbnails are different, and then when you go into the picture it changes to what it is... Right? It could be something as simple as the thumbnails made for that specific picture were misplaced by the system on accident. I don't know, I thought a reboot fixed it, but I have the same issue and I thought that fixed it for me, but it still remains.
If thumbnails are the problem you could try clearing the cache on the Gallery app in Settings/Applications/Manage apps.
Also, you could delete all the thumbnail files in the /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails folder. They should regenerate next time you reboot the phone, or remount the sdcard to the phone (after usb disconnect).

Spy software possibly installed on my phone?

Hello,
So over the past few weeks, Ive noticed some strange "flashing" on my evos screen. The only way I can describe it is when movie theaters do a changeover on reels, and you sometimes notice a quick burn mark, or flash when I take a screenshot of my evos phone...if that makes any sense...
Anyways, today I ran a file recovery program on my evo to recover some deleted photos. After the software finished pulling all images from my evos flash card I noticed there were many screenshots. Anything from google searches I ran, facebook pages, websites, etc. Pretty much random screenshots from my phone. I know for a fact I didnt take these screenshots, so what can explain these images that this software recovered? Some of these screenshots are anywhere between 1 day and 10 months old...since then I have tried out numerous roms so I would assume any spy program (maybe a girlfriend installed?) would have been deleted.
Any input is appreciated.
Maybe just cached images.

That's a very good thought there....
Also what recovery program is this? And I doubt its a spy app
nobody calls my EVO a fizzle and gets away with it!!
and where exactly did you find these screenshots?
That would be bookmarks saved to the sd card sort of like web history on your pc, nothing to worry about, my evo does the same thing.
Saves history in
.bookmark_thumb1 on sd card
and in
/data/data/com.android.browser
Just internet history cache images.

internet browser caches that include screen shots of his texts, etc???
Wanna think that one again?
Lol no I don't actually. In stock Android builds it caches everything.
No spyware caches images on the phone or sd card, it remotes it to the server in and encrypted file to be reviewed later.

Some spy program like mobile spy can record text messages, visited websites and every activity on the phone. If you suspected that it may installed by your girlfriend, then talked about it with her. Don't distrust her if you have no evidence. Good luck.
Check this two most common hints:
1. Is your phone easily drained battery?
2. Does your phone connect to internet even if not used?
If these two is observed in your phone then you are under radar of someone who installed the spyware.
Do you even realize you're posting in a thread that's over a year old?

Facebook crash on Android P

Every time I click on the comment button of a post the Facebook app crashes. Anyone else with the same issue?
With as crappy as the coding on Facebooks app is who knows. I have not seen this and I am on 9
Hmm, discouraging. I've cleared cache, deleted data, uninstalled and installed the app to no avail.
I am on totally stock unrooted 9
I am having similar lockups on multiple apps. Stock-unrooted aug 6 build of P and I tried a full device reset.
Not seeing any app issues same release of P ...hmm have you done a cache clear on the device? Meaning the os not indevidual apps.

Being out of the scene for a while, how do you delete the dalvic cache... ie how do you put the PH-1 in recovery, and do you have the delete cache in stock recovery?
Edit : I did put the phone in recovery mode but, as I expected, the stock recovery image does not have the delete cache option like a custom recovery. Hmm surprised to read that not even a factory reset solved the issue.
I've never used the FB app. Who knows what it is doing when you aren't using it, even if it is closed/stopped.
Better way...open your browser, instead of going to www.facebook.com, go to www.m.facebook.com which
loads the mobile version, and in your browser settings, you can always use the desktop version if needed.

More likely an issue with your Facebook account. Facebook has AI doing code corrections all the time in the background. They also sometimes fubar stuff and then correct it a couple of days later. This has happened to my account more than once.
Mystery of Technology... LOL, no, more like Bugs of Technology, and Pie just came out, so expect plenty of them until it matures a bit...
