HTC One X vs. GS III USA version - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Sorry, I know there are already a LOT of these threads.
But none in ATT or vs. the USA version.
I've got a One X and an SIII here in front of me.
One X:
-love the screen!
-love the looks!
-hate no battery remove or micro SD card.
-hate the volume & power button layout.
-hate the micro USB receptical layout.
SIII:
-not crazy about the looks but it's warming up on me.
Anyways, the SIII WINS even though I only just got it.
Why?
Because I threw my torture test at it and it beat the pants off the One-X and it's all because of the 2GB of RAM!!!!
PORN WARNING --- NSFW!!!!
This thread I linked below has tons of mixed GIF's like motorcycles, porn, stupid animal tricks, etc.
And no phone (Skyrocket or HTC One X) could handle it without any studdering. Till the SIII.
edit: removed link - sometimes forget this is an all-ages forum.
Basically, it was a VERY graphics intensive website and only the SIII has been able to handle it so far.
One-X vs. Skyrocket was pretty even though.

Clicked the link and so much porn...

Anyone have the link still? I want to see if my one x can handle it lol

I sold my HTC one X for the S III. it better be worth it!

The HTC One has a much better feel. I do not like the Pebble blue back. it is just glossed and a finger print magnet.
Thank God I have the carbon fiber skin coming tomorrow.

The OneX feels like a nicer build quality phone.
The SIII was a fingerprint magnet x1000 vs. the OneX.
Then I added the $5 xtremeguard plastic film protection. It made a huge difference! No more fingerprints and you still get all the glossy/shiny metallic blue color. Really good looking. And quite a bit more "grippy" now.
I'd spend a few extra $$$ and get something better than the xtremeguard though. The fit wasn't all that awesome. But for $5-$7 it's a great deal.

Still can't get over how much better the SIII is at handling all the graphics.
To give you an idea, the SIII was seeing almost 900MB of used RAM with just half a page of those GIF's.
That's more RAM than the OneX has all-together.
I'll never go back to a 1GB phone again.
Can't wait for the Galaxy SIV with quad core and 2-4GB RAM next year.

i dunno i always thought the one x was ugly.

Do people even know what RAM actually does?
I don't think so after reading many posts re: RAM
I have both and will be keeping the One X and sending the S3 back to AT&T..
The S3 is a very, very nice device and you can't really go wrong with it but for me the One X is the better device..
I have always been a Samsung Galaxy series lover.. I have had them all the OG Galaxy, a Skyrocket, a Note, a Galaxy tab 10.1 and now the S3 for 2 days...
My reasons for keeping the One X over the S3?
-- Screen ( absolutely no comparison in my eyes.. It's night and day )
-- Look and feel ( night and day again in my eyes )
-- Sense over TW ( I NEVER EVER thought I would say that! )
-- Software & OS updates ( We all know Samsung is HORRIBLE with updates.. The Skyrocket still has NO ICS )
-- Hate the center button on the S3
Those are the main reasons.. IMHO Samsung packed to many gimmicks into the S3.. S Voice is horrid, the pop up video is really not usable as it's TINY.. I view the S3 as a beta test for some of these new features and hope they mature over time and become usable with later updates or perhaps in the S4...
Either way, both are great devices and enjoy whichever you choose... We all have different wants, needs and looks are subjective so to each their own..

I am a multi tasking machine and generally have 20 plus apps open at the same time... I have the One X set to alert me if I ever fall under 50 free and it has NEVER happened yet...
Android does an OUTSTANDING job managing apps and memory... As far as I can tell no current phone on the planet needs more than 1GB... Heck there are phones with 512 that scoot along just fine with NO issues..
IMHO is a spec gimmic just like quad core... No a single game or app needs, requires, or can use quad core.. It's a one up you in the spec game just as 2GB of RAM is..
Don't get me wrong, the spec war is great but these phones already boast more power than most Netbooks and some Laptops and PC's...
RAM is temporary memory... It comes and goes and it does it at the blink of an eye.. 2GB is serious overkill but then again so is a quad core right now.. It's merely a spec game to one up the competition even if it's not needed..
Don't get me wrong though, I'd love a quad core with 2 GB of RAM even though I know it will never be used... :cyclops:

i wouldn't say it will never be used... it's like saying a quad core proc in a phone is useless because no apps are written to take advantage of it.. but you've got a chicken/egg scenario there. i am sure software will continue to get larger/bulkier and push the limits of these phones since the manufacturers continue to do things like double the cores, and ram.

lol now HTC is coming out with their S4 2GB ram variant

Nonsense. Your phone just cached it away instead of keeping the app in memory. The reason you don't get the warning cause your min free setting doesn't let it go below 50mb.

Exact same usage by me on my 1 GB RAM Skyrocket & Note and I NEVER had a RAM issue with either...
I'm not saying 2GB is a bad thing, I'm simply saying it's not needed right now. In the future? Perhaps... I keep phones 3-5 months MAX so by the time I actually need 2GB of RAM it will be on every high end device out..
If you are going to keep the phone for the entire 2 year contract then yes I will say at some point you will benefit from the 2GB..
As of today, 06-22-2012, it's overkill and not needed...
My .02
The S3 is a sweet device and it's a great choice.. The One X has it's strengths and weaknesses as does the S3... It's a matter of which strengths matter the most to you and which weaknesses you can live with..

Samsung raised the bar and any future high end phone released will need 2GB of RAM to compete in the one up you spec war..

True statement... It's not needed now IMHO but you are correct... If someone is going to keep the Galaxy S3 for the entire 2 year contract then I assume they will in fact, at some point, benefit from the additional RAM...

Oh goodness, now who knows nothing about RAM.
You're never running out of RAM because of the operating system. Not because your 1GB is "more than enough".
Trust me.
If you clicked my link, you would be using an average of ~900MB+ of RAM.
As you scroll up and down the webpage on the One-X, the gif's are loaded in and out of system RAM.
The GSIII on the other hand is able to load it all and KEEP it in RAM, so scrolling up and down the webpage is a continuous, flawless motion. No lagging because it doesn't need to keep loading info in and out of RAM.
I attached a screenshot of my SIII using >800MB of RAM. The One X can't do this, so it lags on the webpage.
Also, I finally found one page in that long-ass GIF's thread that didn't have porn. So here you go guys, just don't click any other pages.
http://www.labusas.org/forum/showthread.php?t=151633&page=75
My SIII shows this webpage as flawlessly as my home computer does. I can scroll up and down the page and not one single GIF studders or stops playing. And all gifs move at the same speed as they do on my computer.
NO other phone has ever been able to do this.

Again you won't run out of ram because of the built in min free settings. You will always have the minimum set available.
Doesn't mean all your apps are still sitting in RAM.
They've been cached away so you can reopen them faster.
You are running our of RAM but you don't know it cause it's not transparent to you and is being handled very efficiently.
1gb of ram on my SGS2 is enough for most things but you can never have too much ram in my opinion!

I was going to bring up the Russian accuracy thing, they had an accurate Bada phone preview that included the Wave and the next announced devices.
I think this is ahead of their processor roadmap, and even so I still think whatever they use is likely to be designed and made in-house.
I think this is true or close to true, but part of that is definitely wishful thinking. If it's not completely true, it's probably close to right, and we will probably get an announcement around the holidays so they can get people to hold off on buying a new phone from a competitor. If this has a 2000 mAh battery I'd break my SGS contract to get one.
It's fake. 2Ghz ARM in a consumer device is a pipe dream right now.
Plus Samsung have invested heavily in ramping up production of the Galaxy S, they're not going to cripple sales just as they complete their roll-out.
I could see that happening in about a years time. Anyone could really guess those specs... I definitely wouldn't hold my breath for it though. Better to just get the GS now if you want a good phone.
Also I believe that 4.3 screen is too large for a phone, as it becomes almost unpocketable.
Read this:
http://briefmobile.com/samsung-i9200-galaxy-s2-is-probably-a-fake
it'll need to carry a pretty thick battery. or the battery life is pretty bad.
unless they miraculously came up with some better type of battery.
Definitely wouldn't come out for Christmas, it would canibalize i9000 sales. Just like TravUK said they'd probably work towards rolling out the i9000 to the max.
Regarding the battery, if they come up with new processor architecture or screen technology like some advanced super amoled, that could help a lot two
I would come right back to Android for a device like this or one like it made by HTC. Regardless, I have no doubt we are going to see much better devices from most of, if not all of the majors by Dec (or least full specs of soon to be released phones by Dec).
If you're stuck in a new 2 year right now and you can't or don't want to pay up to get out, you'll be feeling the burn in 4 months; such is the speed of phone tech these days.
I'll not be surprised if it's true.
In fact i was waiting for something like this to come out.
Unfortunately I needed a NEW phone NOW like yesterday, so from the crop of current available best phone was the SGS i9000, and that's what i purchased.
I'm quite sure if that 2Ghz phone makes it to the market next year, it'll cost over $1500+
That thing is essentially a PC inside a phone case.
4.3" screens are huge, most people will not like it in their pocket.
my old HTC Athena has a 5" screen and.... THAT IS ONE OF THE MAJOR REASON why i switched back to a slightly smaller screen like the one on the SGS i9000
anything larger than 4" is very uncomfortable in the front pocket of your jeans, or shirt as most of these phones now in days pack quite a bit of weight to it, although the SGS i9000 is OK, not too heavy.
in the past i choosed the HTC Athena for the 5" screen for movies and stuff, because i used to sit a lot in the Subway, and Buses, it was great, but it sucks when you want to go to say Theme park, and go on a roller coaster and stuff like that.
That's why i switched back to a smaller phone.

That's just not true for everyone. My Evo and it's 4.3 screen to me is the perfect phone size aside from it being a bit too thick. Take a look at the SGS and how it, like the iPhone do not use a lot of the front space above and below the screen. Now take a look at other phones such as the Evo and how it has a screen that takes up more of the front space. Holding the Captivate in hand along side the Evo yesterday and the difference in size is very small and really comes down to the Evo being thicker than I'd like. I can place the Evo in my shirt pocket just as I do with the iPhone now.

that's the problem most of the phones that has larger than 4" screens are too thick, and heavy, both usually due the battery, and other internal components that makes up for the lost space inside the phone.
one of the reason why i like the SGS i9000 so much is because of that, i found it surprising for a 4" phone to be this thin, got tired of carrying a thick 5" phone with me all the time

I'm guessing that you haven't picked up an Evo before? It was thick to me but most owners of it thought I was crazy for thinking its a little too thick. The Evo is thick because of the 4G radio and other components; NOT because of the screen size.
And come on now, a 5" phone like the one you had, or the new Dell are in a different class which doesn't include 4.3 inch devices like the Evo. Remember the size is measured from the bottom left corner to the top right corner of the screen. Seriously, Google for side by side images and you'll see what I'm talking about when I say that a 4.3" device like the Evo, is not much bigger than the SGS. BTW' The HD2 I have is a very thin phone yet it has the exact same 4.3" Evo screen......
My dream phone would look a lot like the Evo and be the same size only a bit thinner and have a flush camera lens (with a powered lens door) along with having the iPhone 4 screen (in 4.3" of course) and at least Android 2.2 while waiting for 3.0. 1ghz or 1.5 Samsung CPU, 16GB internal with SD card supprt and all the other goodies we all love.......
2Ghz CPU in a phone is not really viable as 99% of the time the phone sits on 200-400Mhz for power efficiency anyways. I'd rather see a dual core 1 to 1.2ghz CPU instead, so that twice the work is done in the lower, more power efficient Mhz range.

battery is rumored to be 2000mAh
I too had an HTC Athena, and loved it fiercely at the time when everyone else only had 2.8 inch screen tiny phones. If time is to go back to 2007 I'll still make the same choice. I'm into big screen phones which is in my mind the only real attraction of looking outside iphone.
Of course, today I would never want something as thick, big, and heavy as Athena anymore. Our yardstick for acceptability should change as technology moves forward rather than stay static.
The hugh battery need too drive such a PC (as one of us calls it) might be too heavy. So, I'll wait till the final spec to become available before deciding. By then there may be a 4.3 inch iphone too.
I'll start believing in 2GHz phones when anyone makes a 2GHz ARM SoC. Qualcomm just recently introduced a 1.3Ghz 45nm Snapdragon, and they were the first to bring a 1Ghz ARM-based SoC to market, so I doubt anyone is substantially ahead and about to release one that runs at twice the current speeds. ARM SoCs have definitely not advanced at such speeds in the past - they were hovering around 600MHz at peak for a long time.
Also, an updated version of Super AMOLED so soon, when it's only on a couple of devices? And along with it, a resolution that's higher than any other Android phone? I don't see this turning up soon.
So it has a CPU that doesn't exist yet, a screen that also doesn't exist yet, twice the RAM/ROM/storage and 25% more battery capacity than the Galaxy S, and an improved camera. Sounds like a wish-list to me.

I don't think this is well written. First, the processor is definitely the most suspect thing, I'll give them that. However, the talk about the naming convention and the Samsung Super AMOLED, but I don't think they know much about the tech behind it. If they can make a AMOLED with 720p, then the SAMOLED wont be that much development, it's in their development process that they just eliminate a layer of touch and put it into the screen, the real hard part is making 720p, but they've been working on this for a long time, to think because they just shipped their first devices with it doesn't mean much to me, personally, but what do I know?
Saying 4.3 is the sweetspot, I can't disgaree with more, they are trying to compete with HTC and Moto and all the others, they could care less if 50% of the market wants 4", 10% want 3.5" 20% want 3.7" and 15% want 4.3"...they want to grow and they can afford to make 4.3" screens since they can use it in other devices in the future.
I won't get started on the naming convention, because that is subject to change and just a dumb point of arguing. Perhaps their naming convention is based on how long it took to make a follow up, then 9200 is perfect.
Also, to those who say this will cannibalize sales, they would be different class devices and this would be more profitable. They'd love to partially cannibalize sales in order to get the highest-end, most profitable device into as many hands as possible. HTC is growing and growing fast with this strategy, Samsung would love to emulate it, if they can.
All that said, again, I don't think this is really a done deal...but I think that article is a bit naive with it's logic and focusing too much on what Qualcomm is doing when Samsung and Qualcomm use different chips.

I think they are mistaking a dual core processor with 2ghz. It will be 2 1ghz processors.
But don't be so sure about their can't be 2ghz processor as Samsung is on the cutting edge of ARM they might surprise us. At the specs stated it would have better Dpi or similar compared to the Iphone. So it is bound to need a lot more processing power.

-TONS faster than hero, website scrolling smmooooth
-It's only $50...
-3G so no $10 surcharge
-Slightly brighter
-I believe it was 512mb ram (hero has 256?)
-Doesn't feel cheap at all
What didn't liked...
-No led light, but there's some apps that can make your phone vibrate for notifications
-Fiberglass display (scratches easier, but will not crack if dropped)

I was in the sprint store today and notice the Optimus S and was IMPRESSSED.
It's very responsive and smooth. I was really curious to why and after some research..
Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset with dual cores really help with graphics and games.
technical specs:
* Two ARM cores integrated into a single chip – a dedicated CPU core and a dedicated modem processor – for an unparalleled level of integration:
o 1. 600MHz applications processor with floating point unit and L2 cache
o 2. 400MHz modem processor

i have both phones and i love the optimus. it loads up real fast compared to the hero. i will not get rid of my optimus unless it is for an evo. that is how good of a phone that i think it is. it also has alot hotter receiver in it and gets a signal in places that i couldn't before. overall i rate it an 8.5 out of 10

Mm, thats nice to hear. Maybe my mom would like an Optimus instead of her crappy blackberry.
Intersting, I didn't expect it to be that great! Now I'm looking forward to try one out
I was looking at the Optimus too. My heart REALLY wants an Evo but my head just cant justify paying for the 4g service when it's not in my area and probably wont be for a very long time.
I just bought this phone and I am in LOVE. It feels soo good in your hand, perfect weight and balance. The screen is vibrant, battery life good, and with froyo 2.2 it is amazingly buttery smooth. It makes the EVO seem like a goliath in a good way. Perfect phone and I've owned alot of phones. Now wheres our roms??!
My sister just got one of these and I was thoroughly surprises as well. The speed of this phone puts the hero to shame. Everything is fast and smooth with no lag anywhere. The scrolling the app drawer and most noticeably the typing are all fast and smooth. I'm running cm6.1 overlooked and here phone stock is 10 times better. Angry birds runs perfect on it and the gallery and camera have no hesitation when opening or being used. This is a good phone. I'm seriously considering buying it to hold over until another top of the line is released for gingerbread.

I was thinking about the lg. before we moved to verizon.. But since getting the droid incredible..I cant think of any android I would rather have atm..perfect size. and everything just blazes.. Sprint really needs something like the DINC without 4g.. etc,, cause they have a big hole in the android selection..
Those midrange.. like the sanyo and sammy. both suck.. basicly they need a evo with a smaller screen and no 3g. oh wait thats the DINC..lol
Thats the only thing I like bout verizon the selection... Sprint always has gaps.
But that lg does like pretty decent.. might tell my bro.. since he has one of my heros atm.. still have 2 in my dresser with my tp2 and a tour..

I just tried it at the store and completely agree, it's a suuuuuper fast and smooth experience. I don't know how they did it, but it's a joy to use.
I also agree with the comment above me. The Droid Incredible has the best balance of performance and physical size, and it would be awesome if Sprint had something similar without the 4G $10/mo surcharge.
At first I was a little iffy about letting a relative get the Optimus S before I got a chance to use it and read up on the drvice. Boy was I blown away by the phones speed and smoothness. Its a nice device that I wouldn't mind having for daily use.
Form factor is nice as well. It would be nice is a few showed up on eBay at a reasonable price,I'd be interested in getting one off contract to hold be over if I need a phone.

It will be $1.00 at Best Buy on Black Friday. I also saw something about it being FREE at Radio Shack.
I've been reading up on this phone all over on different forums and from what I've learned:
Rooting can be accomplished by using Z4Root from the Market - even after the recent OTA update.
The OTA update includes Swype.
No Flash yet. The GPU is fast enough, but apparently it isn't supported by Adobe. Not sure 100%, but the GPU may be missing a certain hardware component to allow for true GPU-accelerated Flash. It would explain part of the cheaper price.
I dont care how good it is, I will never in LIFE buy any LG phone i dont care how fast or sleek it is I just wont.....what.....I have my reasons lol. HTC for the win or samsung. That is all.

Agreed!
Haha, I agree on the HTC front - they know how to make a sweet phone, but have you seen the garbage that is the Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform? Complete junk. The only I had two Samsung phones in my life - some old silver flip phone, and the A900 (best flip phone ever!), but as far as I can tell the only quality phone they make now is the Epic (and variants).
Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform?

And Samsung Moment all use the same processor and have an OpenGL ready chipset and no OpenGL drivers. This makes the phones crap. The Intercept is also EVDO Rev.0 which I believe fixed the radio lock bug that plagued the Moment. The transform is Rev.A (without the radio lock) but the same attrocious OpenGL performance. Samsung has completely failed at producing decent mid and low range android devices. it's remarkable.
thats why sprint needs a middle of the ground high performer. like the htc incredible.. even though i hate verizon.. This phone has really impressed me so far..

[Q] Quick question to you all =)

I've been filled with curiosity for a few weeks to see if any other person thinks the same way I do about the HTC G2. I don't know if any of you have noticed but the G Series phones have been like milestones on the android history the G1 started all and the G2 literary set a a milestone most app or games run from the G2 + no older phones. The G-Series has always just like the Nexus been the most future proof phones and HTC has proven to be one of the most reliable phone manufactures when it comes to top quality phones and updates. Anyways I don't know you guys but i would actually love to see a G3 but the question is what would you guys like to see in it seriously i wouldn't like the G3 to be like the G2 which came out with a single core CPU the same moment dual core CPUs came out it was kind of disappointing. So here successor are the specs that the G3 in my point of view should have to be really a true successor to the G-Series:
-Quad-Core CPU with atleast 1.5 to 2.0 Ghz (I dont know you guys but i would actually like to see once the quad core cpus come out to have a dedicated core go to the Phone part of android why? well whats the point of having a smart phone if when you need to make a call you phone or dialer crashes it would be awesome to have an entire core dedicated to the phone its all im saying.)
-Atleast 1GB of RAM
-5 Mega pixel to 8 Mega Pixel Back Cam with flash or dual flash
-Corning Glass Screen (I can't stress this enough lol its been in the G1 and G2 and its proven to extend the life of you phone heck my G1 still looks like taken right out of the box)
-Atleast 4GB of internal memory sure 8 or 16GB wont hurt but as a minimum 4GB and not like the G2 that we could only access 1.4Gb of the 4GB.
-HDMI, Front cam(Not really caring about this but it would be a nice extra), A kick stand( Why? well i would like to be able to use Bluetooth keyboard or atleast be able to see a movie without having to hold the phone.)
-Some Physical Buttons like the g1 had or atleast keep the trackball or trackpad helps a lot to some people.
-Built in keyboard why? simple G-Series has always had it and even if it adds a bit of bulk it keeps the G phones apart from the other phones.
-Battery well atleast 1,500mAh 1,300mAh isnt enough for anyone even those who arent power users 1,500 or 1,800 would help a lot.
-Vanilla Android the Google experience is just awesome =)
-HTC has to make it please ... not LG or any other company.
-Atleast a 4.0 inch screen nothing below 4.0 but nothing above 4.7 either if you wanted something so big you buy a tablet right?
-Hopefully the ports will have little door so dust wont get in them.(Atleast the ports that we dont use often, once again not a must but it would be awesome to have the option i guess)
-Ice cream Sandwich out of the box lol sure why not jejeje =P
I know this is a very dream like phone but... well the G-Series has always had top specs when they come out this is mostly the reason why the keep up to date for so long so yeah XD so what do you guys think?
I am in total agreement.
I just want the keyboard to be more like the G1 slideout and with dedicated numbers row.
I also want the volume rocker to be flush with the surface because I am tired of it getting pressed by mistake.
big plus on the corning glass screen..couldn't agree more.
we may have to wait a couple years for this tho... I'm ready for it now but I am dedicated to the G series.

That phone would be the dogs bawz
Sent from a htc desire z
Oh yeah i dont expect this to come out yet but hey i just don't want the G-Series to die its all and if it continues to keep its awesome features and keep coming out the same way it did before an awesome High-end phone which is totally worth every penny.
Why are there so few hardware keyboard phones out there? , my contract is up but there is no g2 replacement that i can see,
Sent from a htc desire z
Well most companies want to go after the iPhone kind of look and go super thin and they exclude the keyboard out of most of the phones they make. The thing they dont notice is that android phones dont have to look like an iPhone heck one of the best things of having a keyboard and trackpad in a phone is that if you touch screen gets damaged and doesnt recognize your finger you can use the trackpad to move aroudn the interface and the keyboard to type so you can still use your phone in a worst case scenario unlike all the other phones. But hey the HTC G2 still is on the top of the best android phones since with a few mods you can make it as fast as the actual phones. we just have to see what happens with phones after quad core release and ice cream sandwich.
as a deaf android user...I really don't have much choice but to go after the keyboarder phones. if the G3 has no keyboard ill just die !)

I think we will see a really nice G3. The G1 was perfect for its time as far as I can see. What bugs me is that while there is nothing that holds a candle to a modded G2... why wasn't it closer to perfect for its time? I haven't had such a problem with other products that I knew we're the best out there. Cars, girls, video games, flatscreens, etc. I hope google steps there game up. Letting tmobile or htc mess things up is cool. I like money too, but seems like a bad long term business plan.

after the DZ being my first hw kb android device, i can safely say i will never ever go back to a touch screen only experience. eff that! this phone is also my first device with a gorilla glass screen, previous phone was a sony x10 (huge pos) and i am addicted to the gorilla glass' smoothness and toughness.
what i would LOVE to see in the G3:
4" or less size screen...more screen means more battery..
dual core cpu...again..should be less batt intensive than a quad core, and its a mobile device...we shouldnt need pc power hungry phones..optimize the code!
i love the kb the way it is, but eff the z-hinge. id rather a slide out like the milestone...something that feels and IS built tough
1gig + ram
4gig storage as you said is fine by me, i dont even use half of the g2's space lol.
battery is the wow factor, if they slammed a sweet 2000mah battery in it, charged top dollar for the device, id buy it. ill take an awesome battery and pretty good spec phone anyday over a top dollar cutting edge device i can only use for 6 hours lol.
thats my wish..id also like to keep trackpad, make the phone a tad sexier...maybe a nice all black finish with polished steel or chrome accents. the g2 is nice cept for the grey rubberized bits that discolor...if it was black im sure itd look a bit better..

Well ptesmoke the only reason i would like quad instead of dual is if one of the cores is phone dedicated that way we have 1 core for phone utilities and the other 3, 2 for processing date and 1 extra in case we need it. Of course if we cant get it to have a dedicated core to the OS or atleast the phone then sure ill go with a dual core but hey quad doesnt necesarly mean more bat.
To all the others yeah thats why i didnt mention the G2x at all in the post the only real improvement over the g2 was 8mp cam and front facing cam apart from that everything else ruined the phone instead of improving it.
I want a keyboard that slides in two directions.
First direction is the same as G1 and G2, down in landscape mode to revile the full qwerty-ness.
And another direction, slides down in portrait mode to revile a number pad. So some of the keys have a different function depending on which direction the keypad has been slid out.
Also, I'd like the keyboard to be blue tooth enabled so I can use it on other devices (while the G3 is sleeping).
sounds awesome, but 4 inch is a bit too big for me. i like it to stay as a phone. i mean i tried a tablet but it didnt replace my 13.3inch laptop.
all specs are going towards like a tablet hence i mentioned it.
Lol now that htc has beats audio it would be fun to also see it in a g3 like phone and well guys look i really love the 3.7 to 4.1 inch screen all im saying is that it shouldnt get smaller or to big anything between those 2 measurements im fine with and i know many of you are 2 besides if htc has proven something to us is that they have been able to make phones with keyboard and still reduce the weight everytime more and more so even if the phone gets a 4.0 inch screen it will weight less and still feel awesome. also i rather have a quad core than a dual core because when your not using all the core they usually go to idle and stop killing your battery and having 4 cores would allow us to stay in the top phones far more time than a dual core would sure we dont need them now but what about later on? i mean i rather have power and not use it than need it and not have it and end up overclocking the phone to high and killing it its all im saying =D but lol i wish we could know if htc will ever release they keep doing mytouch series which has gone down hill lately on most of them and the G series which has sold well they are letting it die XD.... i wonder what phone would be a good sustitution for the g2 if htc doesnt release a g3? i wonder if we should go with motorola since google owns it now maybe they will have better things and support? not sure what you guys think?
If HTC wants to see how to build the best hardware keyboard ever put on a cell phone, they need only look at their own HTC TouchPro2
what a shame the best keyboard of all time is stuck on a silly WinMo 6.1 phone!

SGS2 vs HTC Sensation

Guys,
After a bit of advice please.
I am due an upgrade soon, which will mean the end of a great time with my X10, but i am not sure which of the above to go for.
My wife has the HTC sensation, and i think it is awesome, but i have not really had a good 'play' with the SGS2.
Can anyone please give some constructive advice?
Many thanks!
I love HTC and have an HTC phone currently (the incredible s ), however I think the sgs2 is a much better phone.
the screen, the processor, etc... is just a step above everything else out right now.
you wouldn't be upset with either but I would definitely suggest the s 2
scoobysnacks comes first when it comes to phone wars
SGS 2 is the best around for now...
Samsung Sensation S.
jk
The only reason I wouldn't choose S II is the screen. It's oversaturated and gradients don't display well. A fine example of well-done AMOLED display can be found in the Nokia N8. The Sensation has a better resolution (540x960) compared to S II (480x800). I'd take the Sensation.
And please, do NOT take things too seriously. I know xda too well.

HTC has much better dev support and better GPS. Sensation all the way.
The only big advantages of the Samsung are the screen and being able to use Odin to save your ass if you **** something up.

Yup. Sensation is great for its user interface, unless you hate HTC Sense 3.0, then that's too bad...
Sensation is running MSM8260 Chipset which should run 1.5GHz by default.
So when comparing in processor, Sensation should have a better performance than S II.
Its screen is better too. Like doomed151 said.

S II has its pros too. When recording, it records on MP4 (Correct me if wrong, I have forgotten) while Sensation records video with 3GP. 3GP is not really good... however, their difference in quality is minimal and 3GP is smaller in size. Does that counts as pros or cons? Haha
Besides, S II has 1GB of RAM, you may need to consider about how heavy of applications you would be using.
the_scotsman said:
I do understand what you are saying, but I think the Sensation has enough free RAM. Having more won't make a huge difference...it might help things a little. If it needed more, it would have a lot less free on our current ROMs.
Any less would be a problem, but 768MB is enough in my opinion.

HTC has HTC Location, a very nice GPS Function, shipped with 30 days of premium navigation. You should know because your wife owns it.
Oh yeah, you also need to consider about the build quality. Samsung Galaxy S II case is made from plastic while HTC Sensation has a round cover of aluminium.
It gives some extra protection and endurance.

It is from a person who owns both phones. He is not from Techradar or anything. Those reviews sometimes take gifts from the manufacturer and talks good about the manufacturer, making the reviews go unfair and incorrect. I AM NOT SAYING ANYONE, I AM JUST GIVING AN EXAMPLE! But Samsung really do lots of advertisements about Samsung Galaxy S II since two months ago.

I too was faced with the same dilemma as you in deciding what phone to get as I was honestly very frustrated with my X10 & just couldnt decide which one to go for S2 or Sensation.
So I am going to give you how I weighted my decision & a mini-review abt my choice (frm someone coming from X10)
S2 Main Advantages:
- Simply put the most powerful & fastest smartphone in market today ( If you ever had any doubts about that fact just look up the Anandtech review of the S2 on google)
- Slim & Lightweight
- Super Amoled+ Display
- Very good still/video camera
- On board 16GB flash memory ( This is always going to be faster than any memory card, a very imp factor for me )
- 1GB Ram
S2 Main Disadvantages:
- Plasticky body
- Touchwiz ( not to everyone taste .. can be fixed with ADW/Launcherpro)
- Surprisingly Super Amoled+ Display - Its love or hate .. the super vivid colors may not be to everyone's taste ( can be toned down using settings however)
- 480 x 800 pixels resolution
Sensation Main Advantages
- Sexy metallic unibody construction
- Sense 3.0 ( easily the most polished android skins around)
- Higer res qHD IPS LCD display ( currently highest res display in the market)
Sensation Main Disadvantages
- Sub par still camera
- 768 MB RAM ( Sense 3.0 eats a lions share of this available ram .. very less ram to other apps available)
- Less internal storage, so u need a SD card ( going to be always slower than on board memory )
- Questionable dual core implementation .. only single core dedicated to applications, while other core is just dedicated to background apps
Considering above factors ( please note these are my opinions alone, others can differ ) i chose to buy :
Samsung Galaxy S2
Mini Review
- I absolutely love the S2 & no matter how hard i try i just cant get it to stutter or lag
- The display is absolutely beautiful. A word of caution .. while the blacks are absolutely impenetrable on the SAmoded+ screen .. the whites are not so 'white' at lower brightness as compared to LCD's .. only when you increase the brightness you get 'full white' colors ..but then it starts hurting ur eyes ... so that takes a getting a bit used to ( esp since i'm comming from the X10 which has a LCD display). But honestly its not a deal breaker ..once you get used to it its no bigge.
Hope it helps you.
And yes Bye bye X10 ! Hello S2 for me !
Why do people instantly choose either the HTC sensation it the gs2? What about the Motorola atrix 4g, photon 4g and HTC evo 3d etc??

Don't get these HTC fanboys, but there is a reason why it's called "the fastest and slimmest phone" til now
SGS-2 all the way.Although I love my x10 (RIP )

Why do people instantly choose either the HTC sensation it the gs2? What about the Motorola atrix 4g, photon 4g and HTC evo 3d etc??

Benchmarks and camera aside I don't think EVO 3D and Sensation are two different devices!
So I don't get the worthy contenders point!
Just my opinion but id take the sgs2 all day everyday.

I think they are, all have dual-core processors and 1gb of ram... only thing the gs2 has that they don't is a good looking screen.
This is all really pointless when you think about it. All these mentioned phones are great....all have pros and cons. Its all basically gonna come down to user preference...we could sit and argue all day which is the best.

sensation has only 768 MB RAM!
SGS2 is totally a different story! The chipset and the GPU is miles ahead of the competition!

Yes very true..but I don't understand why everyone just goes for the gs2 and htc sensation when there's many other phones that have equal specs...

Upcoming Incredible 4g model...

As, I approach my upgrade time. I am pondering my options... and wondering what others are thinking.
When I first read about this phone model (the upcoming Incredible 4g), I was not not especially impressed. But with more leaked info, I wonder is this actually my ideal (or very near ideal) phone.
1. It supposedly will have the S4 Krait processor. This is an upgrade over anything currently on Verizon. I didn't realize that it was going to get this processor. If it doesn't have this processor, then I really don't have any interest. I thought the Incredible 4g was just a smaller Rezound. I was wrong. This processor is an improvement over phones like the Rezound and G Nexus.
2. I have not liked the idea of the newer phones eliminating the SD card. This phone will have a SD card slot... plus 8 gigs internal.
3. It will have a removable battery, another thing that myself and many others have not liked about other new models coming out. I have managed to get excellent life out of my stock Dinc1 battery... but I've always been happy to know that there are bigger replacements available if I wanted them... or if the stock battery were to get weak with age.
4. I am torn by the manufacturers making screens bigger and bigger on phones (and with greater and greater numbers of pixels to control and illuminate). Those screens sure look nice... but I'm not crazy about how much power they use. The Incredible 4g has a qHD 4" screen, so it should look nice enough, and not use that much juice (compared to the 720p phones with 4.7" screens). Also importantly to me, it will be comfortable to stick in my pockets. I just don't watch movies or TV shows on my phone. Yeah, I've done it, just to do it. But, I've got more comfortable options... like our couch and plasma TV (or even our computers).
5. Integrated LTE on the chip? 4g speeds... less battery usage than current 4g phones... thaz awesome...
6. 1gig RAM... same as everything else out there...
7. Nice enough camera (same as ONE series)... Beats (meh whatever)... etc...
8. I do play games, to kill time on my phone, but I often tend to prefer the casual type puzzle games. High performance gaming isn't especially important to me, but still this phone should be nicely capable of playing most games very well.
I know this phone does not follow the "slim and sexy" trend that is happening in phone fashion. I just wonder if I am the only weirdo "anti-fashion" person out there. Plus it looks to be reasonably priced. Anybody else think this phone looks preferable than the other new options coming?
And most importantly... anybody think this phone will get good developer support? Just wondering how others view this phone...
I also approach my upgrade time (I think its in June) and as it approaches I'm paying more attention to what's out there. This new incredible seems to hit all the right spots. The only thing I wish it had wad a 720p screen. Qhd certainly isn't a deal breaker though.
I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Incredible 4G. However I'm also waiting to see what the Galaxy S3 has to offer. I may end up waiting a little longer for that. I dont mind morw waiting as I love my incredible and its simply the best phone I've ever owned.
If my incredible broke today and I was offered an early upgrade id probably opt for a Razr Maxx.

not exactly. early upgrade is an incentive.
verizon emailed me an early upgrade offer for 50 bucks off any new phone last week...
and today snail mailed me an offer for 100 dollars off.
they just want you contracting another 2 years... thats where the real money is at.
My upgrade was up the first of April, and I watched it go by. Honestly, for what I really do with the phone it just didn't make sense to drop the coin on something new that would meet or exceed some of my expectations but let me down in others.
One of the biggest drawbacks to most of these phones coming out (IMO....) is the size of em. Damn, if I wanted an Ipad, I'd buy the dang thing.... These new phones look beautiful but having to wear a hubcap around my waist because it won't fit in my pockets anymore, I just don't dig.
I have been so pleased with the first gen INC that when I heard the INC 4g was coming out, and the screen size, man, I said that's the ticket, faster, and still good size, removable batt, sd card, I'm in, I'm all in......
You raise a very good argument on the OP. The only thing I would need is a guarantee that Devs will get CM9 running on it. My Dinc right now is perfect with CM9.
Not sure how many Inc devs can or will get the Inc 4g due to all getting the rezound. And there's no guarantee of anything before its done. Most likely it will get cm9 but don't quote me on that.
And ics, while OK on the Inc is far from perfect. Camcorder and video don't work 100% on cm9. One of the reasons I got the nexus is to have the best initial support with ICS working smooth without any complex porting.

I'm glad to see some people with something positive to say about this phone. There has been a lot of bad reaction out there for what ever reason. I suspect its people just not understanding about the processor. I've got an upgrade on the 25th, and this thing is supposed to hit the 26th. I'm pretty excited.
I'll probably use it the first month pretty much stock, and then start branching out as things become available. Also looking forward to CM9. I may keep a recovery around to play with and one for actual use with 100% function. If it doesn't come with a 32 gb class 10 sd card, that will be my first upgrade to it. Hoping they pack a nice battery in it.
I think as a OneS variant, there won't be too much difficulty finding devs to take interest.

Well we have 4 days til launch, almost 3, and we've received no word of demo units coming in. So unless they come in tomorrow, I'm doubting that April 26th launch. Perhaps that's when the demo units are coming in? I believe the leaked documents did say "Device workshop" on April 26th.(Although I'm not all too sure what that is). It definitely should be coming within the next two weeks if it misses that release date though.
This phone will certainly be the perfect phone for me when it comes out, if the rumored specs are true. Really hoping this phone gets good dev support too.
We've been discussing the Incredible 4G for a while over in this thread, and I'll repeat my overall opinion here: When this phone comes out it will be hands-down the best phone available on Verizon. All of the websites out there that call it mid-range are out of their minds.
Here are some thoughts I have on some of the OP's points:

The processor is not the only improvement over the Rezound... there are so many more. The only reason people compare this phone to the Rezound is the aesthetic similarity. That's really the only thing these two phones have in common.

That is likely, but not a given. Early reports were able to 100% confirm some things like "yes, it has a microSD slot." Those reports didn't come right out and say that the battery is removable though. But, they did say that the backplates are interchangeable, which is a good indication that we'll have battery access

The camera on the One series (and very very likely this phone too) is much better than "Nice enough". It is amazing. Engadget called the One S "the best Android cameraphone we've seen yet"

It certainly wont be sexy... it's an Incredible. Have you seen these things?
That said, it will be slim and light. Probably not as much as the One S (because this one needs LTE and the One S probably has a little more room to stuff things because of the bigger screen), but the initial reports are that it is very thin and light.

On Verizon, absolutely. There is nothing better. That is, as long as you are cool with the smaller screen size
The only reason not to get it is the screen size... A lot of people have been begging for a high-end 4" phone, and now they finally have one. That said, some people just "need" those mammoth 4.5+" screens. If you're one of the latter, then this phone is probably not the best bet.
For everyone else though, this will be the best phone you can get when it comes out... and the price is looking like it will cost less than the original incredible did at release, which is a bonus

It has to. There's no way they would release it without the S4 (at least, not for more than like 50 bucks)
Sidenote: I'm a bit bummed by the price. I never really believed the "$100 or $150" rumors, but I was hoping that Verizon would stop the $299 madness and go back to $199 that used to be the standard (and is becoming the standard again on other carriers... look at the new Evo for example)
Althought... the site was never really intended to go live... so maybe they just copied a template and hadn't actually finished with it... i.e. hadn't fixed the price yet.
And for anyone who wants to see the leak itsmefu was talking about...

Despite that leaked page using the Moto template with all the "Droid" branding, I was happy to see that other sources indicate HTC/Verizon have dropped the "Droid" name from the new Inc

I remember reading something yesterday but on searching again it appears they were basing that off of photos of device, and my "Droid" Inc doesn't actually have that name anywhere on it either. So nevermind that rumor for now. This link has the photos without the baseless speculation

Oh, lol. Yea, I don't think even the Motoroloas actually put "Droid" on the device.
Thanks for the additional info demarcmj. I certainly am not any authority on this phone. If anything I said was untrue, it was unintentional. Mostly I was expressing my opinions about the phone specs, just for myself, and they way I would use it.
I'm glad you shared your thoughts and could bring better detailed info.
For example: The comment about the "nice enough" camera was a little tongue in cheek. It is an excellent camera, for a phone camera. I've got other gear for taking pictures. For me, the camera on my Dinc1 is "nice enough". I really only use it for scanning QR codes.
I'm pretty bummed about the $299 price tag, too. The One X is on ATT for $199.
The Incredible 4g (with its non-HD screen) is not going to sell many units at $299. That is craziness, Verizon.
